G5 10.3.9 and iPod update

The last three times I've tried to update my iPod the screen darkens and a message comes up in five languages telling me I must restart. The update stops and the computer locks up. Never had the problem before. Any ideas?

you can sync your ipod classic with mac os x panther if you download the application "floola" (http://floola.com/) you might need to connect it first to a mac 10.4 (maybe you can do it at a friend's house?) im not sure but after that (if you do have to do that) then it WILL WORK! I hope this helps.

  • ITunes and iPod updater won't recognize iPod

I'm running Windows XP and it shows the iPod is there but it won't show up in iTunes and iPod updater after 'initializing' for a good 5-10 minutes says either 'could not recognize the iPod' or if it does let me restore give the 'Firmware update failure. Diskwrite error.' I have the latest iTunes and iPod update and went through all the steps in the 'Windows recognizes iPod but iTunes does not' Troubleshooting help section. All these problems started when I tried to update with the new iPod updater software and got an error, everything worked fine before. I have also tried using a friends USB cable the problem is obviously in the Nano itself. Is there any way to safely format without using the iPod updater? or what should I try doing next?
Also it seems like when the nano isn't plugged into a power source it drains the battery, with nothing showing on the screen because it always starts charging when I hook it up to the computer even though it was fully charge before.
    Thanks for any help.

    Hello,
I too am having this exact same problem. My iPod nano was working perfectly until this "latest update" Since I installed that update my itunes and my ipod updater will NOT recognize my iPod. I am getting all the same error messages as you.
I have done EVERYTHING recommeded in the support pages. Reinstall, uninstall, install, reboot I've done it all a hundred times. I have over 5 pages of support documents I printed up and I followed them to the T. I have 10 different USB ports including 3 2.0 USB ports. My windows recognizes the iPod instantly, but the updater will not.
I 'm starting to think it's a problem with the update software.
Please, if anybody has any advice other than "www.apple.com/support/ipod" please post something. I have had my Nano since October and never had a problem with it and I really, really miss it right now.
    Thanks

  • 10.4.5 update and iPod updater

    Hi all,
I have a G4 PB 15 inch running 10.4.4 (everything working perfect!) I also have a 60G ipod video edition, also working perfect.
I have seen the posts about problems with the 10.4.5 update and also the ipod updater so I have not installed them as yet.
My question is am I worrying too much? Should I install the updates and get current? I mean it is scary because I cannot afford right now for the PB to be down. I use windows file sharing ALOT so if the 10.4.5 update breaks that I'm back to USB key.
I guess I need a recommendation. To install or not to install! Once again everything is working perfectly as I sit.

Usually upgrading you have no worries:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=386335
I might add there is a forum where you can discuss Windows file sharing here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=687
Since there are several methods of file sharing, you can ask there if the one you use has any issues.

  • IPod messed up after installing iTunes and iPod update...

Two days ago I updated my iTunes and iPod to the latest updates. Now my iPod makes funny noises that I can hear through the back (without any headphones or anything) and some songs will only play for about 30 seconds and then the iPod just freezes up, makes funny noises and I am unable to turn it off. I found that by holding down the 'select' and 'menu' buttons together, the iPod will restart. I have tried restoring my iPod and it still has the same problems. Any ideas? Is this happening to anyone else?

This is VERY similar to what's going on with my iPod, except mine will reset when I try to play certain songs.... I think Apple might have a few bugs left in their new software...

  • How can I put latest iTunes and iPod updater on a disc to send to soldier?

My brother in law is in Iraq. He has a first generation nano and I want to send him the Nike+ kit. From my understanding, he will need the latest iTunes and have to update the software on his iPod. Trouble is, he does not have Internet access and so I need to send him whatever files he might need. Believe I can download iTunes 7.0.2, but does it not go to the web to get the iPod update? Please advise how i can guarantee all needed files on a disc and no need for Internet. Thank you for your help.

You can use this updater and this version of iTunes with a first generation iPod nano, without requiring a connection to the Internet.
If you need to do this with an iPod not supported by the standalone updater, download the software on your computer, choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu, enter ~/Library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates as the folder's path, and copy the contents of this folder to the CD. They will need to be copied back on the destination machine. More information is available in this article.

  • Reverting to iTunes 6 and iPod update

Like many, I prefer iTunes 6 (I like the feature where, when you enter a search term, you can define whether to look in artist name, album name, song title or all).
I understand from another thread that the iPod updater comes in iTunes 7. The updater (if I understand correctly) will add a feature whereby I can alter the backlight brightness on my iPod G5. I want this feature!
Therefore, what I want to do is install iTunes 7, update the iPod and then go back to iTunes 6. (This thread <http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=637816&tstart=0> describes how to revert to iTunes 6.) Alternatively, I can install iTunes 7 on another machine (also mine, and not normally used for music) and plug my iPod into it for updates, then reconnect to the usual machine.
So finally, the question: Will iTunes 6 recognise an iPod that has been updated by iTunes 7?
    With thanks,
    PhilD

  • 5G iPod charger and iPod Updater?

I was wondering how the 5G iPod copes with the iPod updated without a charger. I know the 4G iPods needed to be plugged into a wall charger after running the iPod updater. But considering the 5G iPod does not come with a charger, does that mean that the iPod can fully update just through the power from the USB connection?

I was also wondering the same thing, but I tried the restore with iPod Updater. It just asked to not disconnect iPod from the USB port and click a button to start it up.
You need two power sources during firmware flash. on G4 it used to be iPods internal battery and external power supply. On G5 its internal battery and power supplied from your computer via the USB (just like charging the batteries).

  • The difference between itunes update and ipod update

Could someone please tell me what the ipod updater is. Is this worth downloading? I thought you only updated itunes.
    Thanks, Gregg

Sure, if you have an iPod, then the updater is used to make sure your iPod is running the latest firmware.

  • ITunes and iPod updated software is impossible to download

I download stuff all the time, but I have not been able to download any recent itunes or ipod updated software since december 2005.
Of course, Apple provides no easy contact info just this useless message board.
There is nothing wrong with my cable modem. There is something wrong with the apple servers. overloaded or something.

  • ITunes 5 and iPod update 2005-09-06

I have a 15GB iPod with the dock connector and have been using it fine until yesterday when I updated to itunes 5.0 and basically lost 90% of the music I had on my iPod. The message told me my software was too old so I went and updated the iPod software to 2005-09-06 abd I still get the same message and have lost the ability to get the music from my itunes library back on my iPod. Anyone with the same problem or a possible solution?

Hey Jeannie I hope this helps out. I found some info on another discussion thread that worked out:
Tessa Brunton, "iTunes 5.0 won't transfer purchased music to iPod", 03:14pm Sep 15, 2005 CDT
With my 15GB iPod plugged in, I went to the Utilities folder in Applications and clicked the 2005-06-26 updater. As soon as it was done running, iTunes started transferring all of my purchased music back to my iPod.
I think I'll hold off on the 2005-09-06 update until next week, just to be safe for the weekend.

  • IPod updater won't unistall and there's always a warning....HELP!!!

I've got a problem with my iPod colour...I've just bought a new iPod and then i wanted to clear iTunes AND iPod updater. But the problem is that the iPod updater won't unistall. There's a warning saying: internal failure
    Error Number: 0x80040707
    Description: Not accessed refused
I don't know what's it!!! Can you help me...I'm sooooo desperate. I want to listen to music!!!

    hiya!
But the problem is that the iPod updater won't unistall. There's a warning saying: internal failure
    Error Number: 0x80040707
    Description: Not accessed refused
in this context, there's a couple of different things that could be causing that error.
    (1) you can get it sometimes if you try to uninstall the updater from a different XP user account from which the updater was installed, or try to install a higher version of the updater in a different user account from a lower version.
so if you've got several different user accounts on that PC, see if you can find the account in which the updater was originally installed, and try to uninstall it from there.
    (2) if you can't uninstall the updater from any account (or you don't have multiple user accounts on that PC), the installation configuration information for the existing updater may be compromised.
in that case, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility, and use it to clear the things called either iPod for Windows or iPod Updater. (my 2004-11-15 version of the updater shows up in Windows CleanUp as "iPod Updater", but my three later versions show up as "iPod for Windows".)

once the previous updater has been cleared, will the install of the new updater go through properly?

this happened to me yesterday. i spent 30 mins on the phone to a very helpful guy at apple, and we found out that i needed to disable USB 2.0 in Device Manager to run the restore then the updator. • Downloaded new iTunes/iPod updater, iTunes now crashes during iPod updating

I downloaded the new iTunes and iPod updater yesterday-- now when I plug my iPod into the USB, it recognizes my iPod, the "Updating iPod. Do not disconnect." message comes up, but as soon as "Updating Track 1 of 9." appears, I get a Send Error Report message "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. etc" (I wasn't sure what, if anything, I shoudl include here from the Error Report Contents.) Has anyone else encountered this or have any tips? I've tried the uninstall/reinstall trick to no avail.
    Thanks!

I fixed this for my Nano by using the iPod Updater Restore to revert the firmware to version 1.0 and removing iTunes 6.0.2 through Control Panel. I didn't delete the leftover directories. I then reinstalled iTunes version 6.0.1.3.
The Nano is now happily recopying all my music. Should be done by midnight.
    Good luck.

  • IPod Cannot be updated or mounted with ipod updater or itunes

Every time i try to update my ipod on itunes i either get "The iPod "Tdunks iPod" cannot be updated. The disk cannot be read from or written to." or i will get "The iPod "Tdunks iPod" cannot be updated. Required file not found." When i try to use ipod updater i get " Can't mount iPod" I have an ipod nano 2gb black version and am runnign windows xp with the newest itunes and ipod updater.

try this, change the drive letter of the ipod this can sometimes solve your issue change it to "M" or something like that this is how to change it, Click on control panel/admin tools/computer management/disk management/right click on the iPod to re-assign the drive letter.

  • New 5. version and Ipod Service Error

I downloaded the newest version of itunes and updater 9-23-05, and now my ipod won't sync with my windows xp itunes. I have reinstalled both itunes and ipod updater, I have deleted everything in the temp file, I have disabled all programs, and I have tried to restort (I get a service error when I try to restore). Apple support tells me my ipod is not under warranty. What they needed to tell me is that their crap software wasn't under warranty and doesn't work.
Does anyone know what I can do to fix this problem? Is it possible to go back to a working version of the software if I can't restore?
