G5 Cannot get past white screen - Keeps restarting

I installed a new GPU and HD yesterday, and I used time machine to restore to my old HD, it went fine and finished and asked me to restart. I restarted, and now it will restart - load on the "white screen" for about 20 seconds - then it restarts and does it all over again.
Why is this, and what can I do about it?

Always best to do one thing at a time and make sure each works. Also, reset nvram any time you change hardware, swap memory around, install GPU, even swapping hard drives.
I assume your profile for Tiger 10.4.x is out of date and the system you did this on has 10.5.5 now.
I've always used SuperDuper and not T/M, the most often cause for problem is permissions needed to be repaired; Ignore Ownership was on, when it needs to be off.
And this flashed GPU worked before the restore fine?

  • IPhone 5 won't get past apple screen (keeps restarting)

    Hello
Bought an iphone 5 just before the ios 7 release and for the last little while the phone would shut off a After a full charge when it hit approximately 97% of full charge it would shut off!  Now it won't get past the apple screen and just keeps restarting over and over again.
Does anyone else have this problem with their iphone 5 and if so any solutions???
Our carrier Fido says this is an IOS 7 issue. Can anyone help
    Thanks
    Shep

    Hey Shep77,
That definitely sounds frustrating! To completely isolate the issue, you may want to restore your iPhone in recovery mode, as outlined in this article:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
iPhone is unresponsive and displays the Apple Logo
Review this article: iOS: Unable to update or restore.
.The above article also has great troubleshooting steps for Power issues, you may want to run through those if restoring does not resolve your issue:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
    - Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
    - Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion.
    Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
    - Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
    - After at least 15 minutes, if:
                   - The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
                   - The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
                   - Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
    - If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
                   - If the display turns on, go to step 4.
                   - If the display remains black, go to next step.
    - Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to
restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
    - If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

Restart your MBP holding the trackpad down and hopefully the disk will be ejected.  Then try to return it and get a refund or put it in the trash.  There is nothing that software does for your MBP that you cannot do yourself or with free software.
If can get your MBP started, delete all traces of the offending software.  Worst case is that you may have to erase the HDD and reload the OS and your user data.  I trust that you have a backup (minus MacTuneUp).
Courcoul has given you his opinion in a very succinct manner, and as you might surmise, I agree with him.
    Ciao.

  • I cannot open Apple TV, and cannot get past "Airplay" screen.

I cannot get past "Airplay" screen in trying to open Apple TV for TV screen use.  Have tried to re-boot but no result.  Cannot get to Settings as cannot get past "Airplay"; nor can I click #1 Network Configuration or #2 Choose This Apple TV.  Thanks.

Hi! This seems to bee a common problem (i. e. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4094417?tstart=0) and i have it as well. As usual you can't get help here but a lot of inspiration
I recommend to upgrade the firmware using a LAN-connection and try it again. If it's stable keep it that way, if not return it to the store and get a new one.
Before of course make sure there is none of the following settings in your router:
    - MAC Adress based filtering allowing only specific clients to connect (unlikely)
    - no hidden SSID (wifi's name) (unlikely)
    - DHCP turned on. If not, your ATV has to have a fixed IP Adress (unlikely)
    - Password and Encryption mechanism is correct
It's 90% the devices fault in my opinion.

  • Can't get past white screen when laotop is turned on

How can I get my MacBook to boot, won't get past white screen.  Battery is fine.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Sounds like it could be a problem with the hard disk.
You can diagnose and perhaps repair the problem (if the hard disk still runs, but has errors) with these instructions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1417
Just realized that you're running OS X 10.7 Lion

  • Won't get past white screen on shutdown/restart

When I choose shut down or restart on my 2012 rMBP, it logs out and moves to the white screen. From what I've seen, for an unlimited time.
When it does this (which I think is every time), my only option is press-and-hold standby key - which I hate doing!
This has been a problem since before Mavericks. I've tried resetting pram, repairing permissions etc etc. any other advice?
Even just a list of things to check which I may have already would be appreciated so I can discount them.

Been looking for a solution to this for ages and still no luck.
Even when I boot up in Safe Mode I still get infinite white screen when I shut down!!

  • Ipad screen unresponsive.cannot get past trust screen to access computer reset

Ipad mini screen unresponive. soft boot makes no difference. trying to access itunes to reset ipad but cannot get past the trust message request. using the imac that normally syncs with the ipad. any ideas

    Hi gav55,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you want to use your iMac to restore your iPad, but the iPad is unresponsive.
If you have restarted the iPad but the behavior continues, try to reset it next:
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If the touchscreen is completely unresponsive, the advice in this article may also be helpful:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Troubleshooting touchscreen response
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1827
If the iPad continues to be unresponsive, you may need to place the device in recovery mode before restoring it:
If you can't update or restore your iOS device
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
Recovery mode erases your device and restores it, which should resolve the issue. If you previously synced with iTunes or iCloud, you may be able to restore from your backup after recovery.
    All the best,
    Jeremy

  • Cannot get past hp screen

Have HP Pavilion S3700y about 2 yrs old.  Was shut down correctly last night, went to sign onto the computer and cannot get past the HP Invert screen.  Rebooted and pressed F8, nothing,Rebooted and tried F10 for Bios... nothing... just the HP screen.  Ideas?
    thanks in advance
    Scott

We have had a number of demo devices that have been sold by some stores and these will not set up a HP webOS account due to the serial number. I was checking to see if you had one of these devices; but you serial number is for a 32G consumer device and should set up properly.
The webOS doctor does wipe the partition that the ROM is on, but not the partition that any data is stored. Was this device new in a sealed box, or an open box?
You could try a full erase by holding the power button, the volume down button, and the center button simultaneously for 5 seconds. This should initiate a full erase of this device.

  • Cannot get past login screen

I cannot get past the login screen. I ran the disk utility to verify/repair my hard drive. The tool fixed a minor sequencing issue which resulted in a "The volume Macintosh HD appears to be ok. That did not fix the problem. Next, I tried booting in safe mode. I cannot. I'm thinking my next step is to reinstall the OS X from the Mac Utilities Suite. My fear is that it is going to erase my Hard Drive. True? Will performing this function erase my locally stored data (files, photos contained with iPhoto)?

    Start up in Safe Mode.

  • IPhone won't get past lock screen. Restart won't work.

My phone was charging and I took it off the charger, my friend played around and did the color invert thing (where you press the home button 3 times). Now it won't get past the lock screen. When I try to put in my pass code it just puts boxes around the numbers but won't actually press it. I tried restarting it, it's currently plugged into my computer and nothing. It was really warm when I first noticed this. Help!

It sounds like your friend also turned on VoiceOver, which speaks items on the screen as you touch them (and sounds like the Siri voice).  You will need to go to Settings>General>Accessibility>VoiceOver and turn it off.  However, with VoiceOver on the way you use the iPhone screen changes.  First, to scroll you will need to flick the screen with three fingers.  Next, to activate something on the screen you will need to first tap it once to select it, then double-tap it to activate it.  Example:  to open Settings, tap Settings once (the voice will say "settings"), then double-tap it again and it will open.  The specific steps are:
Enter you lock code by tapping the first number once to select it, then double-tap it to enter it.  Repeat for the other numbers.
    Press Home.
    Tap Settings. Then double-tap Settings.
    Tap General. Then double-tap General.
Use three fingers on the screen to scroll to Accessibility.
    Tap Accessibility. Then double-tap Accessibility.
    Tap VoiceOver. Then double-tap VoiceOver.
Tap "On" next to VoiceOver. Then double-tap "On" to turn it off.
To fix the inverted colors, go to Settings>General>Accessibility and turn White on Black to Off.

  • Cannot get past diagnostics screen after updating ios 5.1.1

I just updated my iPhone to the new ios 5.1.1. After the phone restarted the first screen to come up was regarding wi-fi. Chose my network and moved on. Next screen was strictly policy. Accepted it and moved on. Next is the diagnostics screen in which you can choose for apple to send you daily diagnostic and usage data. Regardless of what I've chosen (automatically send or don't send), I hit "next" and the phone doesn't load past this screen. I've turned the phone off/on, etc. Anyone know what's up??? please please help

If you cannot get the iPad to respond in any other way, you may need to restore the device.
Connect the iPad to your PC and launch iTunes. Select the device on the left side and then click on the Restore button in the summary pane of iTunes.
But Read this about restoring your iPad before you proceed.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
If that will not work, you may need to use recovery mode. Read about that here.

  • Ix2 fails to respond, cannot get past login screen

I am having intermittent problems with my Iomega ix2 failing to respond. After some time being on the drive fails to respond. I cannot open any files through Windows explorer. If i attempt to connect using the web interface i cant get past the login screen. I put in my user name and password and hit enter. The page simply reloads the login screen. The only solution is to power the drive down using the button on the back of the unit. Powering it up it works fine. Eventually though this will happen again. It's happened a half dozen time or more in the last few days. Now I'm stuck out in the field and cannot access any files. Please help.

No. No errors in the event log of any kind other than the time sync error. I recently replaced one of the disks as it had failed. I receieved a warranty disk from Lenovo/Iomega about a month ago. i installed it and it rebuilt the RAID with no problems. This error has been happening since then. When the time sync error happens i get all kinds of strange behavior. SFTP, which is how I access the files, will start giving Goodsync 'cannt reach end of file error' type errors. Like I've mentioned before I also get an issue where the web login screen gets caught in a loop too. I type in the user name and the password, hit enter, and it just reloads the login screen again. Rebooting the device from the power button on the back is the only solution.

  • G5 startup won't get past White Screen, fans blow loud.

    I have a G5 single 1.8GHz (late 2005 model?) serial number YM439*QYT
It gets stuck on the White Screen at startup. A minute later the fans start to blow really loud and it just keeps doing that and does not boot up.
I was using a hard drive that was copied from the original drive. So I put the original drive in and it was fine for a day. Now the computer is doing the same thing at startup with the original drive, as explained above.
I reset PRAM & NVRAM, nothing.
I have two different video cards, that's not the issue.
I do not have the OS Install Disc as this computer was given to me as a gift.
    Any suggestions? Thanks.
    <Edited by Host>

    OK, from http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html
    here is your system description:
    Serial number: YM439*QYT
    Name: PowerMac G5 (Late 2004)
    Group1: PowerMac
    Group2: G5
    Generation: 3
    ModelCode: g5june04
    CPU speed: 1.8GHz
Memory - number of slots: 4
When you say white screen, are you talking about the gray screen with the apple in the middle? Do you see the progress gear at all before it stalls? Have you done a safe boot to force the fsck operation? You can also do a verbose boot (hold down cmd-V combination at power up and watch for dumb terminal output with Unix messages similar to what you see in the system log). Verbose booting might give you more information about where the stall is actually occurring, if it is stalling after the point where the terminal display begins.
Lots of voodoo in these situations, because there are lots of individual failures that can cause the problem.
