G5 dies at apple screen

I wonder whether anybody can point me to where the possible fault could lie. When I start my G5 up it gets as far as the apple icon appearing on the screen and then the power cuts off and it shuts down?
I have another older G5 standing idle (G5 Model 7,2, Processor Name 970 - 2004). Do you think I could just swap the power supply over or perhaps just swap the hard drives to the older machine?

Just to add to japamac's always excellent advice, also consider that perhaps some component is loading down the supply and causing it to cut out. If you look at the system logs does it always appear to cut out at the same point?
Whether or not safe boot works, you may still want to strip this thing down to a minimal load on the power supply, for example no peripherals attached except mouse and monitor, hard drives internal and external disconnected and powered off, and try booting from the optical drive. If that works, add stuff back an item at a time until you find the culprit.
Safe to presume you have opened this thing up and leaned out all of the dust?

Iphone 4s. My phone dies with Black Screen  intermittently.  It will stay dead in spite of hard reboot requests for 10-15 minutes. Then it will come back. The battery is plenty charged.  This has happened about 3 times since upgrade to IOS6.

You're in luck! Your phone is still covered by the one year Apple warrenty. I would visit your local Apple retail store, or contact Apple over the phone. They should be able to help you out best!

  • IPhone 4 stuck on Apple screen...Help!!!

My phone is stuck on the apple screen.  It has been restarting at least 6 times a day since about two weeks after I got it. I have done at least 5 factory resets, 3 of which I did not restore the content on my phone and it still has issues.  I took it the Genius bar and they couldn't fix it, told me I was stuck with it for a few days until they got a new one in for me.  I didn't think that was a big deal since I could still use it, just had to make really quick calls or texts.  Now it is stuck on the apple screen, and won't completely restart.  Have tried holding the sleep/wake button and home button, but it won't completely reset.  I have tried getting it to let me do a restore...It won't work.  Any other suggestions?  I really hate being without a phone for a couple days.   And this phone is making me miss my DRIOD!!!!!!

I went to the apple store today, because it completely shut down on me for the second time (screen went completely black, couldn't restart it nothing worked, it lasted 8 hours and my battery finally died so it let me restart it so it could charge) and Verizon was not helpful at all. The guy at Apple had no clue what was wrong with me phone, so he ordered me a new phone, but it won't be in for a couple days.  Apparently they were out of stock at the store.  I did try that and still just the apple screen.  I guess I will wait for my battery to dies and just recharge it and do a reset on it again.  Thats about the only thing I can think of.

  • Stuck on the apple screen till death...

It seems whenever I charge my iPod, it goes to th charging screen for just a minute or so, then goes straight to the apple screen. Regardless of whether or not I keep charging it, it stays stuck on the apple screen.
If I unplug the iPod while it charges, it stays o th apple screen until the battery dies.
If I leave it plugged in, it stays on the apple screen for a very long amount of time then suddently flases white and turns off. It then restarts itself and goes straight to the apple screen again. Then the process repeats.
I have tried plgging it into my computer but iTunes will not recognize that it is in there anymore. My computer doesn't acknowledge its presence either.
I have also tried the iPod reset by holding down the sleep and menu buttons down together, bu nothing really happens. I can turn it back on but it will get stuck at the apple screen again until it dies.
Anyone know how I can get past this apple screen and get to my menu again? Or how I can get my computer/iTunes to recognize it when I plug it in?

Try to force your iPod into recovery mode. Disconnect it from the computer's USB cord. Turn it off if you can by holding the sleep/wake switch until you see the red slide to off. Press and hold the home button while plugging it into the computer's USB cord. Continue holding the Home button while iPod starts up. While starting up, you will see the Apple logo. When you see "Connect to iTunes" on the screen, you can release the Home button and iTunes will display the recovery mode message. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

  • Stuck on apple screen again......

i am so tired of apple. i don't even want this phone anymore. i have had this problem for the second time now, where my phone froze up and stays on the apple screen and doesn't do anything until the battery dies. the first time i reset it after receiving an answer to go into recovery mode on the phone and then connecting it to iTunes. this is the second time, and it so happens that i won't have my computer for four weeks while it's getting repaired. when did i send the computer in? YESTERDAY! and the computer i'm typing this on doesn't have any of my music or anything and doesn't have iTunes at all. this isn't my computer and my friend doesn't want me to download iTunes. so what is an alternative to this????? i'm assuming that i have to wait four weeks without a cell phone in order to fix this? and if you tell me that i have to go to the apple store, that's an absolute no either. the nearest apple store to me is never a quick in and out kind of thing because there are always tons of people there and the people couldn't even help me before because they were booked for the rest of the day. rarely am i ever able to even make it down to the apple store even if i have an extra 20 minutes because it'll take about an hour just to restore the phone. so if anybody so happens to have a miracle button i can push, it would be awesome to hear about. i don't mean to be so moody about this, but it's really frustrating to have to restore my phone twice within a month for the same problem. it'd be great if apple released a bug fix for this.

by the way, i have the latest 2.0.2 update. which, i have noticed has been better on installing things, but not on battery life.

  • Freezing at Apple Screen

So here's my problem...If you can help and it works, Thank you so freaking much.....If you can't, my last option is to send it in..
So, I got my IPOd a while ago and it worked great for a good amount of time..Sure the occassional reset here and there, but then one time it wouldn't reset....I plugged it into my Comp and reset it and it just stops at the Apple Screen....Dies after the battery runs low and trys again....Sometimes if I reset it enough it'll bypass the Apple Screen and start charging, saying "Do Not Disconnect"...well, when I get that I let it go and fully charge, but when I click off and stop the hardware/connection on the Computer...Unplug the USB, it automatically freezes again..and when i try and reset and EVERYTHING...it just freezes at the apple screen.
    Help? Please?

Seems your iPod's hard drive isn't functioning properly.
You might want to try checking the hard drive using Diagnostic Mode.
Here's a link for how to do that: http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/index.shtml.
Also, if you have access to another machine, PC or Mac, try connecting your iPod to that one and see if anything changes.

  • *I CAN REPRODUCE AT WILL* the Apple Screen of Death

I've been tip-toeing around my iPhone for week afraid I might send it into "reboot"... "just Apple" mode. Just when you it's restarting... 20 minutes, 30 minutes.... hours later (until it does). Still just Apple. I've read the forums and tried all of the tricks and I can only get it back up and running if I completely restore the phone. Luckily I got into the mode of doing it's 3-4 hours back up every other night. (Don't get me started on that).
I can't solve the problem, but I now know what I will stop doing. Here are the steps that I have used to semi-brick my phone:
    1. Wait until an update is available in the App Store (on the iPhone).
    2. On the iPhone initiate the update of the App.
    3. Wait a few seconds for the app to appear to be downloaded on the home screen.
    4. Then go BACK into the App Store (while the other app is still upgrade... I would assume it would pause or whatever)
    5. I then went in to the Search section of the App Store, which already had a few apps displayed from a previous search. I clicked on one of them to view the description.
    6. At this point the phone is completely unresponsive. The grid cleared, but the description never came. So I tap a few other tabs in the App Store, hit the home button a few times.... then BOOM. Apple Screen of Death.
I'm restoring again (this is my 5th time). I am 100% certain that I closely if not exactly went through the same steps go have the problem occur. Don't shoot me... I know I'm an idiot, but at one point I was hoping the firmware would resolve the issue. Then last time I just got cocky.
The other 2 time that I crashed I was using app's that I had troubles updating on the iphone. They were larger apps and I was doing other things while the update was going.
So my advice.... do your app downloads and updates on you computer. If you HAVE to do them on the phone, kick it off and stare at its progress bar... keep it awake until finished.
Not sure if that helps anyone, but I thought I'd throw this out there. Off to add a bug report to Apple.

*Honestly people here is the solution! I promise it works!*
*Go into iTunes Edit/Preferences the last tab sync disable auto sync for all iPod and iPhones. This does not fix it it is just the first step do not stop here.*
*Next connect your iPhone to the computer. Once it shows up in iTunes go into the last tab Applications. Uncheck sync all apps. not Click apply. Now click sync. it will remove all the applications! After it is finished unplug the iPhone. I bet you will have at least one app still on the Iphone, maybe more. Hold any icon down until they jiggle. tap the x's and delete all the remaing apps. You may notice after you delete each app that a little spinning circle is next to your 3G icon on the top right hand side. Let it finish spinning before you delete the next app.*
*Once you have deleted all the remaining apps (That had corrupt data that was causing your long back ups!) do a hard reset. To do this hold the sleep/wake button and the home button until the red slider appears at the top of the screen. Slide it over and the phone will power off. You will again notice the spinning circle. Once it finishes wait a few seconds and power the iPhone back on by pressing the sleep/wake button.*
*While it is booting back up go into iTunes again turn the auto sync back on! Now connect the iPhone to the computer, let it backup and sync. I bet you a million dollars it goes so fast you want to cry or laugh. Now after it finishes go back to the applications tab. Click sync apps again, but make sure you have the 2nd circle checked. This box is sync selected apps. Make sure all the boxes are unchecked! Now slowly begin adding apps back to the iPhone. I have done as many as 5 at a time. Check the boxes then click apply, then sync. It will backup then add the applications and sync all other information.*
*Someone try it and confirm to these people it works. I'm willing to put money on it! I have done it on both my iPhones and 4 others.*
*Here is the kicker! DO NOT update or install apps from the phone! Only use iTunes to install and or update apps until they get the bug fixed!*
I am willing to bet that corrupt or jsut apps are causing a load of the issues people are having.

  • I have an ipod 5g and when i turn it on it stays on the apple screen and i have put it into recovery mode and restored it twice but i cant get it to work

i need my ipod but i have been up for hours looking up what to do and trying to fix it but i dont know waht to do it just gets stuck on the apple screen. PLEASE HELP!!!!

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Will it boot OK in Safe Mode? See What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? (Mac OS X)
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107392 Takes a while to run, but it usually "fixes" problems.

  • How do i fix my home button it has completely stopped working after i dropped it and now its frozen on the apple screen?

so yesterday i dropped my iphone and the home key stopped working. i had to turn the phone completely off to change screens and get back to the home page. today i turned it off to get back to the home screen and now it is frozen on the apple screen. its been like this for about an hour or so. i plugged it into the computer and it still hasnt done anything. i try to reset it but of course since the home button isnt working it wont allow me to do so.
does anyone know what to do besides taking it to apple?

You can try the steps recommended in the User Guide.  If they don't work bring your phone into Apple for evaluation.

  • My phone is stuck on apple screen and i've tried to reboot it and connect it to my computer many times but it doesn't work.  Can anybody help me?

My phone is stuck on apple screen and i've tried to reboot it and connect it to my computer many times but it doesn't work.  Can anybody help me?

This is covered in the basics section of the manual:

  • My iPod touch is frozen and apple screen & spinning wheel keep appearing

    Hi I really need help,
I was updating an application on my iPod when suddenly it shut down because the battery was too low.
Then I tried to turn it on again but these apple screen and spinning wheel screen keep appearing until now.
I've tried pressing and holding the home & sleep/wake button at the same time several times, and mostly it didn't work.

    First, charge the battery thouroughly.
Then, if you're still having a problem, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • MBP OS Leopard update that now hangs at the grey apple screen

I ran software update for OS Leopard on my MBP yesterday and it has been in a continuous boot cycle that never gets past the grey Apple screen. The only sign of life is that periodically it will make the boot noise and the computer remains quite warm.  I have tried shutting down completely and then rebooting in safe mode and also rebooting using the OS disk but I'm pretty sure the Leopard OS disk doesn't work as a boot disk.  So my first issue is to try and fix the boot problem.  The second is that clever me didn't back up before hand so I am looking at trying to connect by firewire to my iMac and try and recover some files... given the issue would this be possible?

See if it boots into Target mode...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
If so it should act like an expensive Firewire Drive for your other Mac.
