G5 Dual 1.8 issues

Hi,
I'm running a dual 1.8 ghz G5. started having "you must shut down your computer" messages, kernal panics, and high revving fans with freeze-ups. Still runs fine if only on the web, but if I try FCP (or any other memory intensive programs) that's when i get a crash.
Of course, AHT tells me nothing. And the first time I tried to run AHT, it was all squished to 1/3 of the screen. i thought that looked like video card trouble.
I removed the exact card from another computer and replaced it; everything appeared fine, but after running for a few minutes: kernal panic.
Anybody have any ideas on this?

Hi, I'd try to get Temperature Monitor - 4.51...
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19994
See if that is the problem.
Also of note, AHT can only be trusted if it finds a problem, not if it doesn't... especially where RAM is concerned. I just had an iMac that would KP & only boot 1 out of 10 times, AHT would only run/boot about one out of 5 attempts, but when it did run it reported all fine.
Replaced the RAM on a hunch and problems all went away.

  • Mini Displayport to Dual-Link DVI Issues on 30" Cinema Display

I know this problem has been around for a while, and that there are several other discussion on it, but my goal here is to point out that even in mid-2011, this issue remains.
    Here's my configuration:
    30" Cinema Display
Dual-link MDP to DVI adapter with 1.03 firmware (purchased August 2011 from an Apple Store)
New-ish MacBook Pro (purchased December 2010) with Mini Displayport
    Symptoms:
On dark areas of the screen, DVI noise appears (horizontal flickers of light coming and going at random)
    Attempted Fixes:
Unplugging the display and plugging it back in to the computer (failed)
    Restarting the computer (failed)
Tightening the connections on the Dual-Link DVI adapter (failed)
Sleeping the display and awaking it (failed)
Some suggest getting a new 27" Cinema Display with native Mini Displayport/Thunderbolt support. I actually have one, but I cannot tolerate the glare on the glossy displays, so I'm "downgrading" to a 30" Cinema Display.
Is there any remaining hope for this issue?

I still cannot understand why you would return everything... Ultimately you want this computer right? Once the bugs on the adapter are fixed are you gonna go back and re-buy it?
Seems like a lot of time spent out of spite and not for good reason. Me, this is the best Mac I've ever owned (and I've owned many. no, really.) and I'm happy to wait for this adapter w/ this machine in stead of going back to my other box.
I observed a similar client of mine w/ an iPhone... after the first week, he didn't like the keyboard and a few other things, so he took it back and went back to using his Blackberry -only to dump the Blackberry again for the iPhone, because he realized that the iPhone still did more things better than the Blackberry.

  • Powermac G5 dual 2.5 issues!

I purchased a pre-owned Powermac G5 Dual 2.5 ghz. It has 4gb ram and is running Mac OSX 10.5.8. Very shortly after I purchased the computer I had a crash and couldn't get it to start back up. I tried to re-install software and it would go part of the way thru and crash on the install every time. I started the machine in target mode and hooked it to my old trusty G4. I was able to install the software that way with no issues. I then went back to the G5 and tried installing updates, but part of the way thru the updates it would crash saying the update was possibly corrupt, ( these were straight from apple so I doubt that ) thus leaving my g5 unable to restart because of the partial software update. I did the target mode again, this time installing all of the updates using my G4. After all was said and done, I was back to where i had started when i bought it. I now keep to be getting freeze issue with the machine. I can be online using safari and all of a sudden I get the spinning color wheel. When this happens I can not even force quit the app, it will just sit there spinning away. Tonight i tried opening firefox and it started up and ran for a few minutes before freezing also. A few days ago I had tried to burn a dvd using toast, and that app also froze up and would not let me force quit. I have not had any issues like this from my G4, and after trying resetting the SMU, PRAM and many many hard restarts, I am no closer to knowing what the issue could be. Any help or ideas for me to try would be much appreciated.  Thanks, Mike

  • Dell XPS 13 (2015) - Windows 7/8.1 Dual Boot Audio Issue

Specs:  I have the i5 FHD XPS 13 9343 with 8gb of ram and 256gb SSD.
I bought the computer for dual personal and business purposes.  My company uses citrix to access virtual desktops and the security requirements are Windows 7/IE 9.  Upon purchase, I partitioned part of the hard drive and installed Windows 7 alongside Windows 8.1.
Installing Windows 7 through UEFI mode to avoid having to wipe my Windows 8.1 install was challenging but I succeeded and installed all the Windows 7 drivers on Dells website.  I got IE 9 and remote access up and running and thought I was good to go.  The touchpad is a little rough in Windows 7, however when I am remote working I always have a mouse so it's not a big deal.
Then the issue began.  I noticed that in Windows 8.1, when I put the computer to sleep, I would lose my audio device.  When I restarted it would still be gone, only a full shutdown would bring it back.  I also began to lose my audio device in Windows 7 either after sleep or entirely from a cold startup.
I have tried everything.  Uninstalled and reinstalled the realtek drivers under windows 7 and 8.1 multiple times, tried to get microsoft HD audio drivers to install, even attempted a regedit fix I found on pcgamer.com.  Nothing has gotten me to the point where I can consistently sleep the computer in both OSes and regain sound, or restart between OSes and keep the sound.  Sometimes I can sleep the computer and keep sound, however once I lose it, I must shutdown and startup again to regain it.
The hard drive still has the original partitions from Dell.  I don't know if this has any effect.  My Windows 7 partition is 60 GB.
Anyone who has any idea what may be happening I would love some help.  I really don't want to wipe the HD since my remote access is so finicky and I would rather not lose that Windows 7 install at this time.

Well every so often the audio device stops working and it seems to disappear and reappear periodically. No audio will play and audio tests fail.
Have just uninstalled / reinstalled drivers (again) and it's back working, however I'm not getting my hopes up!

  • Dual monitor color issue - oversaturated image in CS4

Hi, I wonder if you can help. I found people having similar issues, but never seen an actual answer, so your input would be greatly appreciated.
    My set-up:
MacBook Pro Dual Core intel based 15.4 2.6GHz running OS X 10.5.6 - also my primary display
    HP LP2475- secondary display
    CS4
Both monitors were calibrated using X-rite Eye-one LT (each with a separate profile)
I've tried calibrating each monitor 3 times and still get the proble,
    My problem:
Running in dual monitor mode in bridge or safari/firefox- no problems at all: almost consistent colour between both monitors.
When I open the images in Photoshop CS4, they look fine on my MacBook screen, but when I drag them over to the HP the color is grossly oversaturated - especially in the red. What am I doing wrong? (in fact on the HP monitor, the color looks perfect in bridge but super insanely saturated in CS4)
Does anyone have a clue on how I can fix this?
    Thanks!

You say your running 10.5.6?  Why haven't you updated to 10.5.8?
FWIW, I never had color issues under 10.5.X, however I have since upgrade to 10.6.

  • Another Dual Layer Break Issue

    Encore CS5.1
After about 12 hours, I am no further forward... Having trawled through a number of posts on this and similar subjects I am really up against the buffers.
The requirement is simple - getting Abobe Encore CS5.1 to "see" my request to use a Chapter Marker it gives me as one of three in the Manual Option section during the build process.
I had no issues with DL authoring in CS4, but CS5 is giving me a lot of grief.
    The outline:
I have a timeline of 67 minutes with 6 Chapter Markers. The first two are within the first 10 minutes, CH3 at 36 minutes, CH4 at 38 minutes, CH5 at 41 minutes and CH6 at 61 minutes.
I am using Verbatum DL +R DVDs (I have used no other these last three years) with a write speed of x4 or x2.4.
Once I have built the NEW project, imported the video and placed the Chapters as above (all except CH3 at fade-to-black points) I select 8.54 GB dual layer, Side one, Manual and proceed.
At the invitation to select the manual point Encore offers me CH3, CH4 and CH5. No matter what I select, it places the break point at about 33 minutes (about half way) and in doing so screws up my own Chapters by placing it's own (invisible in the timeline) chapter thereby shuffling all mine. As a result I lose sections or get repeated sections.
I tried building to Folders and using ImgBurn. This confirms the insistance on using a halfway point - same too building to an Image the chapter and cell are never my selected, always a cell at about the halway point.
Adobe Encore is not recognising my selection (at its own invitation).
I have deleted the project and cache - rebooted and built the project from scratch importing the video - creating the timeline and adding the Chapters - always the same.
I have followed some of the points given using Folders in ImgBurn - it simply is not working for me. It's almost like Encore is screwing the build and the build is the same as though the settings are held in cache.
As mentioned, I have cleared all previous builds and their files and deleted the media cache with no joy.
I'm getting to the point whereby the only choice left to me is to split the project timeline and build the project as two separate DVDs (as the timeline is only just over the capacity for a single sided DVD (3 minutes).
As for PCG Edit - doesn't seem to want to run on my workstation (PC i7 24GB RAM - 3 separate drives in RAID combo and separate OS SSD).
Can someone help me find out what has happened to Encore as it does appear that after every "upgrade" somthing gets a little worse judging by my CS4 experience.
    Many Thanks

    Hi Stan,
    Many thanks...
    Yes, running "as admin"
Not quite with you "...too much material for a layer."
I often run to about 65 mins to just fit a single layer - perfect, but this project ran over - and I can't take anything out.
I am loath to change the sample rate as my SD quality (from a combo of AVCHD and MPEG2) Sony NX5 and Z5 really hit the spot for max res in SD (9.4 Mb/s). The Encoded spec for Encore is legal (or so it would seem) for Encore in a single layer (no issues or errored DVDs), and as I said in the OP I had no issues like this in CS4 (yes, apart from the known buggy stuff).
But why would Encore offer me a number of break points in placed chapters only to ignore them consistantly?
    Another point:
My first build went through and honoured the chapters, but put the layer change halfway - but didn't screw the build. There was a production reason I had to change the timeline content - one shot change of the same duration. I would certainly settle for that at this stage. Interestingly, I built to Image and did an IMGBurn (as I do do for all DLs). But as you say, IMGBurn is choking on what's been passed to it from Encore. I am trying to replicate that first build.
By the way, all my Chapters in the timeline preview perfectly in Encore - it's just when I ask for the build it all goes wrong (seemingly).
Many thanks again Stan. Appreciate your reply.

  • Ibook dual usb video issue

hi, i have a dual usb 600mhz ibook g3, the video is screwy you can still make out items on screen, this happens only when booted into the operating system, during bootup the apple logo and grey screen are fine and during target disk mode the firewire logo moves around all perfectly fine, so cant be a hardware issue? ive played with the system prefs and nothing, anyone got any ideas, thanks in advance

You could try booting into Safe Mode. This will take quite awhile longer than a normal startup because it does a file check and repair of the hard disk.
You will see your normal desktop. Once completely started up in Safe Mode, restart normally, and go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
Select the named boot volume in the left sidebar ("Macintosh HD" unless you've renamed it). Repair permissions on it.
See if a little hard drive maintenance helps things out.
If that doesn't help, can you set up a new user and log out and log back in as the new user in order to see whether it may be a preference problem with your user account?
Do you have the Mac OS X 10.4 Install disc and is it readable by the iBook?

  • Linksys WRT1900AC Dual Band Router Issue

    Hi We have recently Purchased
8 Linksys WRT1900AC Dual Band Router. And we are trying to connect our External Hard Drive which is
(Seagate Backup Plus 4TB USB 3.0 Desktop External Hard Drive STDT4000100) non of them are recognizing in USB 3 or USB 2 Yes we have also tried to format the drives in NTFS still no luck. I am really surprise that External 4TB HD not working with this Such Hi-Fi Router. I am hoping it should really don't want to return these router.
Please Confirm if this router support the Following Newest USB 3 External Hard Drives. I have tried everything but its not working.
1 - Seagate Backup Plus Slim 2TB USB 3.0 Portable External Hard Drive STDR2000100 B
2 - Seagate Backup Plus 4TB USB 3.0 Desktop External Hard Drive STDT4000100
    Thanks
    Faz

Have only 1 drive connected to the USB port. Restart the router and then map the drive. See if that works. The issue that I am having is that when I have only one drive (NTSF) connected to my WRT1900AC Router I can see it, no problem. The problem ocurrs when I install the second drive (FAT32) then it locks both drives and I can not map any of the drives either on mac or windows. I do see both drives on the Linksys Smart wi-fi browser (192.182.1.1) and tells me that both are connected, but thats about it. I am going to format both as NTSF and see if that solves the problem.

  • Dual-band networking issues

Hi, all. I'm seeing a few posts on spotty internet connectivity with Airport Extremes and I wanted to add my voice to the list, with some more details, perhaps my situation can help us all decipher this issue.
    My setup:
iMac running Leopard 10.5.7 (and home to my media library) with n-class Airport
Macbook Pro running Tiger 10.4.11 with g-class Airport
    Apple TV with n-class Airport
Dual-band Time Capsule with 7.4.2 firmware
iPhone running 3.0 with g-class Airport
Until recently I've had what I thought was a pretty standard setup: my Time Capsule ran one wireless network, with WPA2 protection. The network was private, but I had a guest network enabled as well. In addition to the equipment I've listed above, I have an older g-class Airport Express connected to a radio (not extending the network).
I started noticing this issue when the Time Capsule had the 7.4.1 firmware. It's similar to what other people are describing: sometimes internet connectivity would simply stop, or slow down drastically. It had the appearance of, say, a DNS lookup problem: my browser would spin, searching for the server. But this was only on my iMac: if I switched to my Macbook, running Tiger and connecting at g, everything would be fine.
At first I thought the firmware was the problem: after upgrading to 7.4.2 the problem seemed to go away for a couple of days, but then it reappeared. I also got the impression that somehow Time Machine backups were part of the problem: the slowdowns seemed to coincide with the backups, which always seemed to take a long time.
A few days ago, I finally went into the Airport administrator and tried to divine what was going on. I'd had an amber flashing light for weeks but that had gone away with the firmware update: it seemed to have no effect on connectivity. I turned off the Guest Network: no change. But then I gave the 5 GHz band a unique network name (instead of sharing the regular network's name), and connected my iMac to the new name. Bingo! That has seemed to get the job done! My internet connectivity has not wavered in the few days since.
But it has created a second problem:
Under the old setup, all my devices connected to the same network name. Under the NEW setup, my iMac and my Apple TV can connect to the separate n-only network but my iPhone can't. Which means that I lose the ability to control my Apple TV with the iPhone remote program. Right now I've switched the Apple TV back to the original network, but I fear I'm losing bandwidth because of it, connecting the ATV at g speed.
This can't be the way it was envisioned...is there some other setting or device that might be causing the issues with the one-network-name setup?

go into networks and airport and preferred and delete it.

  • Dual G4 CPU Issue (MDD)

I have a pair of MDD Dual 1.42 GHz FW800 machines.
One uses almost every available CPU cycle when multiplexing an EyeTV file in Toast 7 to burn as a DVD which is the normal and expected result. Both CPUs are "busy" in Activity Monitor. The other machine starts out using a high percentage of CPU cycles for a few seconds and then drops down to something between about 98% and 105% CPU utilization. When viewed in Activity Monitor the utilization switches from one CPU to the other with one taking almost all the load. Multiplexing and burning the DVD takes forever, longer than I remember a single processor machine taking.
I have checked the voltage of the PRAM battery (and then replaced it anyway), and reset the PMU. I have removed the (copper) CPU cooler, cleaned the goop and replaced it. Nothing looked odd. I have run the tests in TechTool Pro and everything passed.
The two machines are running OS 10.5.2. The "problem child" has an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Video card instead of the NVidia 7800. It has a Pioneer DVR-115 with up-to-date firmware. The "good machine" uses a Pioneer DVR-112 with up-to-date firmware in a FW800 enclosure. Both machines have 2 GB RAM and run off of PCI/SATA controllers.
    Any ideas or suggestions?
Edited to add optical drive info.

    Hello Hans,
    "Are you ready for this?"
I took the "problem child" in to the Apple Store. I told them that I had previously zapped the PRAM and reset the nvram, among other things. I had also removed the heat sink for the CPU, removed the old goop and cleaned things. Visual inspection revealed nothing unusual and so I applied some Artic Silver and put things back together.
The good fellow at the Genius Bar ran the Apple Diagnostics and nothing remarkable appeared. After visiting with the folks in the back room he ran the "Yes test" (in Terminal, "yes > /dev/null") for both processors, which basically runs both processors at 100% of capacity. After doing this for a bit we tried burning a DVD, which the system did in a very normal manner. Then we tried for two-in-a-row, which it did very nicely, thank you very much. I also burned a disc image in Toast that did not appear to be a problem. While all this was going on, "the guys in the back room" had installed Toast 7.1.3 on their machine and observed it "hanging" some, very much like I had described so there appears to be some sort of issue with Toast 7.1.3 and Leopard, even though it may not necessarily appear in all machines, or at least not in the same way. So I am ordering Toast 9. It was time anyway.
I reinstalled the OS 10.5.2 Combo Updater on the "problem child" because it had not had several updates installed as a test as there is a bug of some sort that Apple has introduced with the last batch of updates which prevent reinstalling a Combo Updater as has been the common practice for years when something odd is going on. After doing this, the problem with Toast reappeared and after running the "yes test" for a bit it is again resolved.
    Weird, huh?
I can not explain it, though it appears that Toast 7.1.3 is not really Leopard compatible. I am only glad that I have a temporary solution for the problem.
    Thanks for your assistance,
    Richard

    But I appreciate the advice.

What drivers do you think I need to get the USB function again for now?

  • 790fx-GD70 Dual channel memory issue

I am just trying to build my 2nd pc and have ran into some snags I need some help with. I'm using the above motherboard with the AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Ed  3.2 - HDZ955FBGIBOX  processor. I'm using a CORSAIR|CMPSU-750TX 750W  power supply along with a XFX HD-489A-ZDFC HD4890 1GB video card. I'm trying to run 2 sticks of 2 gig ddr3 memory. I originally purchased CORSAIR XMS3 DHX 4GB ( 2 X 2GB ) PC3-12800 1600MHz 240-pin DDR3 memory. I am only able to get 2g to boot. If I install a 2nd dimm it will not boot. I originally thought it was the speed of the memory so I just ordered some more Corsair but at the 1333 speed and I have the same issues. Each individual stick will work by itself but if I add any multiple sticks the pc will not boot at all. I have currently installed vista 64 bit. Any ideas on what might be defective or if it is simply a compatibility issue I'm having? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Silly question, but you have tried DIMM 0 & 1, and DIMM 2 & 3, right?  That's first and second slot, and third and fourth slot.
Checked the product page, did not say whether or not it was Intel or AMD tested.
As said, please check voltage/timings in BIOS.  Also, when you *do* get your system to start up, what is it running those sticks as?  Under the BIOS screen, are they running at 1066/1333/1600?  It should tell you during POST.

  • Time Capsule dual wireless routers issues

I have a TimeWarner cable modem in the closet with a net gear 8port router connected where are all my cat5 cables drop in for our home.
I have a Cisco wireless router in the living room running wifi to iPads, iPhones, etc. That router has a cat5 cable going to my Apple Tv and everything is working fine.
I purchased a Time capsule to backup my macbook air and hooked it up to my office via cat5 and connected it's wifi to connect to my iPad when I'm in there since connectivity is sometimes slow to my Cisco wireless router.
Here's the problem. I can't get the Time Capsule to work at the same times as my Cisco wireless router. Each time I reset the modem it picks only one to connect to. My time capsule says no internet connectivity but the cat5 to my Thunderbolt shows "display ethernet" connected but I cannot access the internet.
A buddy said it's an IP address issue and they're trying to share one and that can't happen.
    Please advise.
    thanks.
    cp

I assume that you have checked the Ethernet cable this connected to the Time Capsule and verified that it is functioning correctly. The Time Capsule would be configured to "Create a wireless network" if you want it to provide a wireless network. If you do not want the Time Capsule to provide a wireless network, then you would set the Network Mode to "Off".
To enable Bridge Mode,  under the setting for Router Mode would be "Off (Bridge Mode)"
Click Update to save the settings and the Time Capsule will restart.

  • Dual Boot Network Issue

    Hi there,
I just built a new computer and I've been having the following problem. It's the first time that I actually dual boot systems on a desktop and I keep encountering the following problem. When I boot into windows(XP,7 or 8 tried them all) the network card simply stops working. When I mean it stops working I mean that it just sits there. I can get a valid IP and get all the network information, but when I try to ping anything, including the router it simply doesn't work. The only time it actually works is the first time I install windows. I can reboot and it still works as long as I don't start linux it will work.
Since I only use windows for gaming re-installing windows has been the option I've taken, but its kind of time consuming. The only solution so far is adding a network card that I had from my previous build and adding it. The first time I booted into windows it worked just fine. On reboot, still using this secondary card windows will no longer work with it. Same thing, gets IP and dns info but no connection anywhere. I switch the cable to the other port (not used in linux before the reboot) and it works.
Here are the two network cards in play:
    Built in one:
    Intel(R) 82579V Gigabit Network Connection
    PCI Card:
    Realtek PCI GBE Family Controller
Since switching the cable instead of reinstalling windows everytime is a better option I've been doing that lately but what could be going on. Any additional information I can provide?
    Thanks for your time.
I know my way around linux and windows so ask me anything and Ill get back to you ASAP.

Replying to my own question, a bit of lateral thinking led to me configuring the unused partition as swap, which Solaris then saw as a Solaris disk, well, after deleting the 2gb partition. The install happened and I am now in the process of trying to get grub to see all three OSes again.

Hi! Could someone possibly tell me what I'm doing wrong here? I have a dual disc cd (the cd/dvd discs) and am trying to figure out why it is that ITUNES isn't recognizing the disc. I have tried taking the disc out then putting it back in, restarting Itunes, and was wondering if anyone could tell me what I'm doing wrong. I know I am not great with a computer, but I didn't think I was THAT ********...
    Thanks,
    R

Ok, obvious question first. You are asking iTunes to recognize the cd side and not the dvd side aren't you? Do you have a dvd drive you can try?
Are your normal cds recognized ok? I don't have any of these dual discs, but I have read in some audio publications that there are a few problems with these discs not being read in audio cd players either (and some high end ones at that).
I should also point out that you'd get a better response to this question if you posted in the iTunes forum.
