G5 Dual 2.3 (Early April 2005) with Radeon 9650XT (256mb) Driver Question

My system is working fine. Out of curiosity I glanced at the ATI dowloads and saw that the 9650xt (Radeon) for Mac has a driver with a newer date than my computer. As a new Mac user I want to ask: do most of you leave it alone unless you have a problem? Thank you.
G5 Dual 2.3 (Early April 2005) with Radeon 9650XT (256mb)   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   Have never updated a driver on a Mac before.

ATI Support would not comment either so I will contact Apple Support.

  • April 2005 G5 Dual 2.3 Performance questions

According to the G5 specs, the April units sported not only dual processors but also a FSB of about 1.15 Ghz. Can anyone explain the rational behind limiting the board to the DDR400 series of memory modules? Does it have anything to do with any design features of the Motorola CPU (what is it by the way??) which could therefore only use RAM up to 400mhz?
Secondly, the memory slots are paired into 4 pairs. Is the no-brainer answer that one half of each pair serves one of the two processors?
Thirdly, even though these are 32bit cPU's, is it reasonable to expect this G5 to perform well under the next iterrations of Max OS-X or do you think the 64bit world will obsolete us overnight?
Thanks in advance for your seasoned wisdom,
    Sam
    G5 APRIL 2005 DUAL 2.3GHZ 4GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

G4s are all 32-bit CPUs, and all G5s are 64-bit.
You can read about the G5 (aka PowerPC 970) here.
The Apple Developer notes on the April 2005 G5 are here.
The current MacBook and MacBook Pro use the Intel Core2 Duo, which is a 64-bit chip. The original models used the Core Duo, which is 32-bit.
PowerBooks are all 32-bit, since they used the 32-bit G4.
Leopard will not require 64-bit CPUs to run. What it will do is be fully 64-bit compliant. In Tiger, you cannot have a 64-bit application with a GUI. In Leopard, you will.
If Leopard required a 64-bit CPU, the original MacBooks, MacBook Pros, and all Mac Minis wouldn't work with it. I would be pretty shocked if Apple dropped support for the G4 with Leopard. Support for the G3 may be dropped, though. We'll have to wait until it's released in October to know for sure, though.

  • Graphics Card Replacement - Dual 2.7 Early 2005 - Which?

    Hi all,
I feel bad for posting a new topic, as japamac and other users have addressed this question before, however, I'm confused!
My used Dual 2.7 Early 2005 G5 has the stock graphics card in it at the moment, as the 800XT that my dad had been using in it broke while he was doing some maintenance prior to giving it to me.
I want to replace the graphics card because:
-I like to stream videos, and it doesn't do it as well as I'd like.
-I play a lot of Civilization 4: BTS, and want to turn my graphics setting up w/o trashing performance.
-I want to edit RAW photos in Aperture (will upgrade to 3 soon) with shorter load times.
So which card would you recommend? I've been confused, as I believe the graphics slot is PCI-X (not express, I've got that one down), but a lot of the cards discussed in archival threads are 8x AGP. Perhaps the computer has both slots and I'm unaware? I feel further hampered by my lack of knowledge when the best source for this upgrade may/will be ebay.
Your advice is very much appreciated.
    Gorf

    Hi-
Your machine is 8x AGP graphics and accepts one 8x AGP compatible graphics card.
The other expansion slots are either PCI or PCI-X.
You are looking for a Mac compatible graphics card, with a minimum of a Radeon 9800 XT 256MB card needed for your uses.
A Geforce 6800 GT or Ultra would be better yet, and of course, the Mac X800XT is also a good candidate.

  • Can anyone figure out how to stop OZmail on my LG Revolution? I've received 765 OZmail texts since early April!,

I have called Verizon weekly and sometimes twice weekly to keep on getting my problem resolved and even was promised that a supervisor named Pamela would call me back but fat chance in getting a call back.  Pamela has been a no call.  I am getting an OZmail about every 3 to 5 minutes right now as I'm typing this.  Also, this didn't even start be ause I changed phones.  I've had my LG Revolution since last June and all was well until early April 2012 when the OZs started.  Someone suggested a factory reset but also said it wasn't a sure fix and my beef is that it's a huge inconvenience to me when it's Verizon's fault this all started.  Can someone please help me???  I'm ready to dump this phone and Verizon too for their ignoring my pleas for help.

    dont do a factory reset
call back and get tech support, ask them if they are a vendor if they are call back
tell them you are having ozmail notifcations.. its like 3 buttons to click to unregister you, not sure why you are having so many issues with verizon to undo this
Its your old mail system trying to send you a msg. So everytime you get an email you get a notification. On your old device it used a system called oz mail, basic phone, not supported on android
Just call back be calm, its a simple fix once you get someone who knows what they are doing

  • Airport Extreme Card for my Apple Power Macintosh G5 Dual Core (2.3) Late 2005 - M9591LL/A - PowerMac 11.2 - A1117

    Hello there, I have an Apple Power Macintosh G5 Dual Core (2.3) Late 2005 - M9591LL/A - PowerMac 11.2 - A1117.
What Airport extreme & Bluetooth card I need?  why the memory are so hard to find? can I use another faster DDR2 memory?
Sorry for to many question but I search on "Saint Google" and there is too much information not precise.
    Tnxs a lot
    Pablo

You need an Airport Bluetooth module with the required runway card.
    Here is the kit:
    http://www.dvwarehouse.com/Apple-AirPort-Extreme/Bluetooth-Upgrade-Kit-for-Power -Mac-G5-Dual-Core--Quad-Core-Late-2005--MA252G/A---Refurbished-p-36513.html
    Get memory here:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/PowerMac-G5-Memory
    100% compatible and lifetime guaranteed....
You can use a faster memory, but it will not run faster, will likely report wrong and may give other issues.

  • I have 12 core with Quatro 4000 and 5770, I want to use dual monitor setup, monitors are NEC with Spectraview-II.  How do I connect?  4000 only has 1 Display Port and 1 DVI.  5770 has 2 of each, if I use both 5770 Display Ports, does the 4000 contribute?

I just bought a 12 core with Quatro 4000 and 5770, I want to use dual monitor setup, monitors are NEC with Spectraview-II.  How do I connect?  4000 only has 1 Display Port and 1 DVI.  5770 has 2 of each, if I use both 5770 Display Ports, does the 4000 contribute any work at all?  I read where on a PC they would work together, but on a MAC they do not.
I read that Display Port has higher band width than DVI, NEC monitors for best performance they recommend using DIsplay Port.
When I was setting this up I looked at a Nvidia Quadro 4000, unfortunately it was for PC, it had 2 Display Ports, in the Mac version they reduce it to one.  I did not think there could be a difference.
Mainly want to use it for CS6 and LR4.
    How to proceed???
I do not want to use the Quadro 4000 for both, that would not optimize both monitors, one DP and 1 DVI.  Using just the 5770 would work but I do not think the 4000 would be doing anything, and the 5770 has been replaced by the 5870.more bandwidth.
Any ideas, I am a Mac newbie, have not ever tried a Mac Pro, just bought off ebay and now I have these problems.
As a last resort I could sell both and get a 5870.  That would work, I'm sure of that, it's just that I wanted the better graphics card.
    Thanks,
    Bill

    The Hatter,
I am a novice at Mac so I read all I can.  From what I understand the NEC monitors I bought require Display Port for their maximum performance.  The GTX 680 only has DVI outputs.  Difference from what I understand is larger bandwidth with the DP.
You said I have the 4000 for CUDA.  I am not all that familiar with CUDA and when I do read about it I do not understand it.
A concern I have is, that if I connect the 2 high end NEC monitors via the 5770, using it's 2 Display Ports I would have nothing connected to the 4000.  Is the 4000 doing anything with nothing connected?  I read where in a PC system the 2 cards would interact but in a Mac system they do not.
Bottom line, as I see it, the 4000 will not be useful at all to me, since I want a dual monitor set-up.
So far the 5870 seems the best choice, higher band width than the 5770, and it has 2 Display Ports to optimize the NEC monitors.
I'm not sure how fine I am splitting hairs, nor do I know how important those hairs are.  I am just trying to set up a really fast reliable system that will mainly be used for CS6 and LR4.  Those NEC monitors are supposed to be top notch.

  • I have set up a Netgear dual band modem which works well with the iPhone and an older MacBook, but with this brand new MacBook it asks for a password every time I reopen the computer and open safari. Is it Lion?

I have set up a Netgear dual band modem which works well with the iPhone and an older MacBook, but with this brand new MacBook it asks for a password every time I reopen the computer and open safari. As you can imagine this is very annoying. It says I am not connected to the internet and offers me a choice of nearby networks including mine and then asks for a password when I select it. Why does it do this with our new MacBooks (also with my son's brand new one) and not with the iPhone, iPad and older MacBook? They happily automatically connect to our network after entering the password just the once.

Sig, I appreciate you trying to be helpful. I have no idea what issues you were having or what issue exactly pgrounds has been having. Your assumption that everyone's set up is the same as yours is false however. There are many many documented WiFi issues that are a result of Lion installs. Many have been solved by 10.7.1 and 10.7.2. Others have been solved by a large variety of work arounds. Others have not had their issues solved yet.
I am one of those. I have an IT background, and I spent the better of five hours digging up workarounds and attempting all of them. For the benefit oh anyone who is having similar issues, I have posted links to all of those workarounds here. None of them worked in my case, but hopefully they will help pgrounds or others.
So, once again, if you have a new idea, I'd love to here it. But if it has already been posted in one of these links, it's not helpful, let it go.

I bought an iPhone 5 from the Apple store with a new Sprint contract in Sept. 2012.  I would like to know if I port my number to T-mobile and pay off my Early Termination fee with Sprint, will my iPhone 5 will be unlocked to use with T-mobile network?

As Ethmoid says, it is still a CDMA phone as I told you earlier, and it will not work with t-mobile. Even if Sprint unlocked the phone, it would only unlock the GSM side for international use. They will not unlock the GSM side for domestic use in the US.

  • Simple UEFI GPT Dual boot with windows 8 boot partition question.

    Hi everyone,
I think it's obvious from the quuestion that I'm a newbie here (and from the location of the post) but I have read (several times):
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/UEFI
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/UEFI_Bootloaders
    and the incredibly helpful:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beginner%27s_Guide
along with many forum posts. unfortunately this:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wi … _Dual_Boot
appears out of date and so I need to ask you fine people my question.
If I want to dual boot Arch with my Windows 8 my question is on the boot partition. I have an existing windows EFI boot partition. should I mount this partition to my "/mnt/boot/efi" folder and then copy the files to this partition when I am setting up rEFInd (my chosen bootloader from wiki page, comments/suggestions are welcome) or should I setup a separate boot partition for my arch installation. I assume from reading about rEFInd that the former is how I should do it as this seems to be how refind would be able to "see" my windows bootloader.
The reason I am double checking and asking here is I know that windows can be a temperamental beast and is very prone to not booting so I don't want to mess with the windows boot partition unduly.
Thanks in advance guys, looking forward to getting my arch working!

    $esp = EFI System Partition?
also, ok, gummiboot, I'm glad I can mount the esp as /boot (that was my original thought but reread the tutorial and wasn't sure) just double checking, it is the esp created by windows 8 that I mount?
in addition, as I am slightly new to this is there any tutorial that can tell me how to set up gummiboot? I've looked here:
    http://freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/gummiboot
but don't see anything in the way of detailed instructions.
    from your post: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=159061
I'm gonna guess it's something like this (please let me know if this is right)
    /mount $ESP /mnt/boot
    pacman -S gummiboot
    (after chrooting)
    //exit chroot
    gummiboot
*stuff saying gummiboot is not configured*
    gummiboot install
is it something like that? can anyone point me towards a manual

I currently run Mac Pro with three hard drives. Can I dual boot or even triple boot with Snow Leopard on one drive and Mountain Lion or Lion on others?
I need to keep Snow Leopard so that I can run some old softward.

If you are careful you can put at least two on one drive, having Recovery from Lion and Mountain Lion on their own drives though.
CCC can clone Lion Recovery - great for moving or backup.

  • How to enable high availability on SQL Server 2005 with Windows Server 2008 Enterprise R2

    Dear Folks,
I would like to ask you about this thing. I'm working for IT department for bank in Myanmar. Our bank have up to 96 branches across all of Myanmar including H.O. We are using Microsoft SQL Server 2005 with Windows Server 2008 for our banking
information system. My main problem is having to backup and restore the database backup files every time the servers in branches goes down for whatever reasons. I want to deploy this feature of high availability and failover cluster using Windows Server 2008
and SQL Server 2005. Our branches have 2 Servers. One is for Primary and other is for Backup. What I want to do is that, I want to change Backup Server to Primary Server whenever the Primary Server goes down for whatever reasons. All the working data and databases
from Primary will immediately replicated into Backup Server along with all the IP information of Primary Server. Please give me step by step guide for this process.

    Try below
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/cindygross/archive/2009/10/23/checklist-for-installing-sql-server-2005-as-a-clustered-instance.aspx
I will recommend you to upgrade SQL server to newer version for support as well as flexibility.

  • Early '08 iMac with a GeForce 8800 GS graphics card.

I have an early '08 iMac with a GeForce 8800 GS graphics card. Can I update my card with a newer, better updated one? Would like to play Battlefield 3 and others. If so, can I replace it myself or should Apple do it after I buy it from OWC.

Apple will not install a non-Apple product in your iMac. Maybe an Apple Authorized Service Provider might.
Some models have replaceable video cards, but updating with a newer one will require much research,  (my guess is that this is not possible, as connectors and circuitry aren't standardized).
See this DIY on an iMac video card procedure to see if it's something you would want to try yourself: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Installing-iMac-Intel-20-Inch-EMC-2133-and-2210-Vide o-Card/1014/1

I have got VLC which runs them fine but cannot get movies saved in iPhoto to play in VLC...and of course its a real bugger to copy moves from iPhoto to another folder; in fact if anyone can tell me how to do that I will accept defeat!

  • SQL 2005 with database compatibiltiy level set to 80

I am working with a new client transferred to us and they have been having performance issues, particularly with an add-on solution.  I have been looking as some of the database settings and noticed that the database compatibility level was set to 80 - SQL 2000 when they are running on SQL 2005 with SAP B1 2007, PL 44.   Would having this set to 80 have any impact on performance?  Is it suggested to absolutely set the compatibility level to 90?.
    Thanks to all

    Hi,
As per the SQL Administration guide, you have to choose collation setting of: SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS when installing MSSQL 2005 Server.
In order to check what the collation is set to in your server, please run the following query:
    select SERVERPROPERTY ('collation')
(This query gets the collation settings of MSSQL Server's System Database "Master")
    Expected answer : SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS
As  MSSQL 2005 Server is already installed with  collation  SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_CI_AS, kindly follow the steps below:
Change your server collation to SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS
You can find Microsoft's instructions for changing an SQL server collation here:
    http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms179254.aspx
Note: The collation settings of Database "Master" needs to be changed only. All SAP Business One Databases must not be changed! They must remain on SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_CI_AS.
If you need any clarifications with this process please refer to an Expert Empowerment Session "SQL 2005 Server Collation settings" at https://websmp203.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700000050892007E/ or http://service.sap.com/smb/sbo/support -> Archive: Empowerment Sessions.
If you have any Service pack for MSSQL Server installed, but the Service pack is not included into your DVD MSSQL Server, do as follows:
    1. Uninstall Service pack
    2. Change Collation Settings as per Expert Empowerment Session
    3. Install Service pack again
    Hope this is helpful!
