G5 Dual 2Ghz sometimes will complete a download, sometimes it doesn't. Help!

I looked but couldn't find that this issue had been addressed anywhere. If it is a repeat question I appologize.
Here is my situation. I recently purchased two G5 PowerMacs (both are Dual 2 GHz Power Mac - non-Intel). They both seem to work fine with the exception that both are experiencing the exact same "sporadic" issue when downloading OS and program updates from Apple, Microsoft, Adobe, etc.
Here's an explanation of my problem:
I've done a fresh install of OS 10.5 Leopard to a clean, and re-formatted hard drive. The 10.5 OS installed normally without any issues. However, when proceed to download the updates, the 10.5 updates will sporadically "hang" (or freeze) during the downloading process. Then, the only way to exit the download is to "Force Quit" process as trying to stop it normally doesn't work. This isn't always consistant either, as sometimes the update will download completely, and the update process would proceed normally.
I've checked to issure my internet settings are correct, and they are. I'm currently only using Safari as the web browser, and it appears to work normally (I can get online and surf the web without a problems). It's only when attempting to download something that this problem occurs. As I said, sometimes the download process will complete normally, but about 50% - 60% of the time the download will "freeze up" and I can't quit the application without using the "Force Quit" option. Then after re-starting the download (not the computer) several times, the download will proceed normally and finally complete. I can then proceed in an attempt to download the next update.
NOTE: I have an "active" Airport Extreme card installed in each G5, and was also using the Ethernet cable. I thought that possibly having both of these active at the same time might be creating a conflict, so to check it I first turned off the Airport card and attempted to do a download. That had no effect on the problem, as the download still hung. I then reactivated the Airport Extreme card, and unplugged the ethernet cable. I got the same result with the download hanging up.
Any help with trying to figure out this problem would be appreciated. I've owned Macs for many years and have never had this issue before,
Thanks in advance!

OK, here's an update, but it doesn't really make any sense to me. I was becoming very frustrated dealing with the above issue. So I completely wiped the drive AGAIN, and then installed OS 10.4 Tiger on the system. I did this just to see how it would act. Anyway, after installing OS 10.4 Tiger, everything works normally! No downloading issues, no having to force quit in order to continue updating my system, nothing. It works perfectly when using 10.4. Can someone please tell me why I have this problem in 10.5 but not 10.4? Is it possible there is a corrupted update for 10.5 from Apple that may have caused the problem? Anyway, bottom line is that I'll stay with 10.4 as it still works as it should.

  • ITouch stucked at completly black screen (hard reset doesn't help)

My iPod touch 4G is stucked at completly black screen, with no apple logo at all.
This happened after restoring my iPod touch.
Also hard resetting (holding home+power for 10 seconds doesn't work),  LCD isn't dead as I got it to go white when restoring.
Now I can't even restore. I always get error 1600. But I can't reboot to solve it.   If I do so, it doesn't show apple logo, but just keep black screen.
    It's mega urgent.

Error 1600, 1601, 1602: Try the following steps to resolve this error:
Ensure proper USB isolation troubleshooting has been performed, and test with a known-good cable.
Follow the steps listed for Error 1604.
This error may be resolved by disabling, deactivating, or uninstalling third-party security, antivirus, and firewall software. See steps in this article for details on troubleshooting security software.
Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for error 1604.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while iPhone remains connected.
iPhone should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

  • Every few days, display will completely freeze, requiring reboot

    Hi Folks,
At least once a week (tho' sometimes more often) the display on my 8,1 24in iMac will completely freeze. Sometimes I can SSH in from my MacBook and issue a shutdown command, but more often than not, I have to do a hard reboot.
I'd like to run a hardware diagnostic on it, but I seem to have misplaced my original (Leopard) install disks (sometime during my last move, probably). The Snow Leopard install disk doesn't seem to have the hardware test utility on it, and holding "D" during startup does nothing.
Is there somewhere I can download the Apple Hardware Test to diagnose things further? Or, is this an OS/graphics driver problem?
iMac 8,1 (purchased in July, 2008).
OS: 10.6.7 with all the latest updates. 64 bit kernel and extensions.
Graphics: ATI Radion HD 2600 Pro.
    Memory: 4 gig.
I thought for a while that the cause might have been some problem using the 64 bit kernel on my system, but reverting to the 32 bit kernel didn't cure it.
Admittedly, it has been more stable of late (hasn't frozen up in a couple of weeks), but I still don't trust it.
The only change in the last few weeks has been that I replaced my 500 gig USB external backup drive with a 1 TB Firewire 800 model. One thing I that I always found vexing about the 500 gig drive was that it would bring the system to a standstill for 3-5 seconds every time Time Machine would access it (I know, USB uses more CPU resources). This hasn't happened with the Firewire 800 drive. I wonder if there could be a connection there?
Anyway, thanks in advance and best regards.

  • When downloading a large PDF file, firefox stops after some of file and hangs up. Only way out is to close browser or power down. Internet explorer will complete download of same PDF file.

For example, go to irs.gov and try to download 1040 instructions as a PDF file. Firefox hangs up after part of the file is downloaded, but will not complete the download. The only way out is to close the browser (Firefox). Sometimes the only way out is to power down computer and reboot. I'm running Windows XP Professional. My computer has plenty of memory and disc space, so that is not the problem. When I use Internet Explorer (UGH!) it takes a while, but the very same pdf file will completely download.

  • Downloads sometimes fail to complete in window 7.

Firefox fails to complete many downloads generating a permission error at the end of the download. It creates two files: ? and ?.part. Firefox downloads to the ?.part file but at the end of the download it fails claiming I don't have permission to the directory. My permissions are fine but the files Firefox created are locked.

If it works in the XP mode, but not 7, the previous post pretty well establishes the Windows 7 OS as the culprit. It is obviously using all of the same hardware in each "mode." I
have a Dual-Core HP laptop with 4GB of RAM, running 7 Pro that consistently dies at 90% of a download. (with various files)
It doesn't generate any errors - it just stops incrementing. The same files downloads just fine on our XP PCs.
I have tried all of the proposed solutions without any beneficial results.
This seems to be a pretty common problem with Windows 7. The web has a lot of posts about this problem. (This happens with wired and wireless connections.)
WHEN is Microsoft going to fix this problem?

  • My iPad 2 will not complete the download of software upgrade 6.1.2?

Hi. My iPad 2 will not complete the download and install of the iso 6.1.2 software upgrade to fix the calendar exchange that is draining battery. It goes through the process and then just says there is an error but does not indicate the error. Any ideas gratefully accepted.
Also I don't know if it is connected but  it also will  not download new apps or iBook I purchased. Please assist if you can.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off the router and then power it back on
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>reset>Reset Network Settings. You will have to rejoin all networks

  • G5 dual 2ghz PCI and HP LP2475W 24" - will it work??

Hi - I couldn't find this question asked before, but apologies in advance if I'm revisiting old territory!
I have a Powermac dual 2ghz G5 PCI with Radeon 9600 128mb, and just about to install Leopard.
I am thinking of upgrading from my Formac 2010 screen to something with more space, and was thinking of the HP 2475W 24" monitor, with a max resolution of 1900 x 1200.
Now as far as I can tell, my card should support this resolution. But before I went ahead and bought the monitor I wanted to check, as I'm not very expert with graphics cards.
And will the monitor perform satisfactorily on this Mac, or is the card not really up to it? Are there any problems with the 2475w and G5 Powermacs running Leopard?
    I greatly appreciate any thoughts/feedback.

    Hi-
    Well, I'm thoroughly exasperated.........
Short of an email to HP, I cannot tell you, for sure, that the input of the monitor is single link DVI or dual link DVI.
    All literature only says DVI-I..................
HP's site and manuals are conveniently vague, and do not address the topic at all.
The native resolution of 1920x1200 is typically the top native resolution of single link DVI monitors.
So, hopefully an owner of one of the monitors will chime in.
As it is, I'm out until HP answers my email..........

  • Intermittent boot up problemsI have a G5 Dual 2GHz machine

I have a G5 Dual 2GHz machine with 2Gb RAM. I have had an intermittent bootup problem every since installing Tiger.
The machine appears to start as normal, gets as far as the spinning cog wheel then just shuts itself down as if there was a power cut.
This happens every time I install an update and when I tryed to start up in verbose mode to try and work out why I can't see the message quick enough before it shuts down.
It will however boot up in safe mode and sometimes this fixes it if I then start up normally.
Other times I have to just leave it for about a half to one hour and it eventually boots up.
This problem is now happening more frequently not just after updates and can take several attempts to get it to boot properly.
If I run fsck in single user mode it reports that the file system is ok. If I run hard disk checks this also says everything is ok. I haven't as yet reinstalled a clean system.
Does anybody have any ideas? Is this hardware or software? Any suggestions appreciated.

    Hi there,
Thanks for all your tips which I have tryed but it doesn't seem to make much difference. In fact the machine wil l now on ly boot in safeboot mode.
The Apple hardware test reported no faults. Disk utility verified that the hard disk was ok and I repaired permissions. I ran Tiger cacche leaner and said yes to all options. I also followed Al's suggestions and used font doctor to check out the fonts. It found three corrupted which I removed but this also did not make any difference.
I looked in the system log and found the following :

between them they are the answer to a large number of ADE problems, but I can't promise they will help in your case.
Also, a third possibility at the bottom.
    1) ~~~~~
Sometimes ADE gets its registration/activation confused and in a semi-authorized state.
Uninstalling and reinstalling does not help.
Unfortunately, it often then gives misleading error messages about what is wrong.
A common incorrect message informs you that the ID is already in use on another computer and cannot be reused.
This can often be resolved by completely removing any authorization using ctrl-shift-D to the Library screen on ADE (cmd-shift-D if on Mac).
Restart ADE, and then reauthorize with your (old) Adobe ID.
In extreme cases on the mac, the following extra step has helped some people.  Navigate to /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions and drag the activation.dat file to the trash. If you are using 10.7, see Access hidden user library files | Mac OS 10.7 Lion. http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1265248?tstart=0
    2) ~~~~~~~~~
There are lots of bugs in ADE2.0 (and 2.0.1).  Try replacing ADE2.0 with the older but more reliable v1.7.2.
(You can have them both installed at once if you like.)
Version 1.7.2, it is a little difficult to find, available on Adobe site for Windows and for Mac.

The forum software is sometimes corrupting the link above.  There shouldn't be a blank in 'editio ns.html'.  The following redirects to the same page: http://tinyurl.com/diged172
    3) ~~~~~~~~~~
extension of (2).  ADE2.0 will often not work with Overdrive library books if a Sony eReader is plugged in.
It isn't just that it won't interact with the Sony, it won't even operate properly on the book within ADE on the computer.
