G5 Dual Core Powermac says no card detected

Hi All
It's been a frustrating day - first off I carted my mac 30 miles to an Apple Centre and waited for a long time whilst they installed an Airport Extreme Card with Bluetooth into My brand new G5 2Ghz Powermac (Dual Core).
Got the machine home and it turns out that they re installed the RAM incorrectly and after half an hour or so I sorted that.
I turn on the machine and try to detect the Airport Card and it says "no card is installed' The card is installed but it just doesn't work.
I can't get back to the store until next week and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what may be wrong. It looks like the antenna is connected and everything seems secure.
Help anyone please.

Otherwise your choices are:

  • How to Install Airport Extreme on G5 Dual Core

There's no installation instructions included in the Airport Extreme card and it referred to the manual that came with the computer (in my case G5) but it's nowhere in the G5's manual. Do I install the software first then the card? I haven't opened my G5 yet but where exactly do I put the card in?

The software is already installed so don't worry about that.

  • Kingston Value Ram modules on PM dual core 2.0Ghz

    I have a powermac dual core 2.0 with 512mb non-ECC RAM.
I'm searching for memory to upgrade my mac but the only kingston memory modules that i find in every local store i visited match the Part Number KVR533D2N4/X (X = 512, 1, 2, 4), that corresponds to "Value Ram" brand of kingston modules.
I search in the forums about problems with Kingston Value Ram and i would like to know experiences upgrading dual core powermacs with this memory module (KVR533D2N4/X) or other 'Value Ram' memory modules provided by kingston.
    Thanks!

I've used the Kingston brand on all my mac (ibook 700mhz G3,1.25DDR, 1.25 DP DDR & G5 DC. So far no problem. I recently purchased matched pair of 1gig (2 gi)DDR2 533mhz @ micro center, coast me $235.00. I was thinking about getting a seperate module. But I remember reading somewhere that for trouble free, better get the matched modules. 1gig x 2 per package = 2 gig or 512 x 2 = 1gig. I rather use brand for less head ache (so far).

  • How does the Dual Core affect your electric bill?

ok, maybe an unusual question, but for us folks here in europe - the land of extreme energy costs - the issue of power consumption is relevant. after i got an iMac G5 i noticed that my energy bill went up significantly from when i had my old G4 desktop running. granted, i have been getting more work
now i am about to pick up a porsche - err, dual core G5 system - and wondered if there was a way to find out. the tech specs do not indicate how many watts the units draw under load. is there any way to find out? does anyone have any info?

Dual cores consume less electricity than dual processors as witnessed by the fact that the present dual core PowerMacs have air cooling.
The quad has liquid cooling (but it's the best processor power bang for the buckas all computers will be going dual core shortly)

  • Video card upgrade for powermac g5 dual core

will the NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT Graphics Upgrade Kit for Mac Pro work with a PowerMac G5 Dual Core?

Unfortunately, no. Although both cards are PCI-Express the difference in the card's ROM (the G5 card needs an Open Firmware compatible ROM, whereas the Mac Pro needs an EFI compatible ROM) make them incompatible.
Assuming you currently have the nVidia GeForce 6600, you could upgrade to either the nVidia 7800GT (was originally a build-to-order option) or ATi's X1900GT. Both are available from OWC and are very similar in speed to each other. Both are considerably faster than the 6600.

You need an Airport Bluetooth module with the required runway card.

  • Flash a PC Geforce 8400GS 512MB PowerMac G5 Dual-Core 2GHz?

Ok so today I picked up a PowerMac G5 off craigslist (2GHz Dual Core 512MB ram [added 4GB i removed from PC ) so its sitting at 4.5GB of DDR2,). guy thought it was broken and gave it to me for 30 bucks. i put a new battery in it, along with pressing the button next to the PCI-E slots. cleaned it out, and fired it up. came right up. reinstalled Leopard and might i say it FLIES. (im coming from a hackintosh, and already LOVING this).
only problem is the video card is a joke. I have my old Geforce 8400GS 512MB sitting around not being used. I wonder if I would be able to flash it with the G5 rom so I can use it on here? I have googled, and I came up with nothing. thanks for any help!

We see a lot of people here say their "Mac Pro G5" or G5 Mac Pro" and "well they both LOOK the same on the outside!"
Open Firmware was the heart of Power architecture for 1997? until the switch to Intel architecture that was begun even earlier but under wraps.
PCs use BIOS, you won't find EFI or now UEFI, and Apple takes a standard but proprietary implementation.
Which is why you can't even get basic video out except with branded cards that have $100+ premium.
Because Apple used an 8800GT, there were some flashed PC cards, and as long as it was based on the same reference (G92?) and had a large enough ROM, there were some. $200 for flashed 8800GTs on ebay though dried up, too many problems it seems with solder joints and quality as well as over 3 yrs since manufactured.
Even the ATI 1900XT used in some PCI Express G5s was/is different than the ATI X1900 used in early Mac Pro ($449, $250 extra when BTO) even though 1900 and 1950s for PC were out, were half the price, they could not be cross-flashed. There were some PC cards that were to work in Mac Pro, but limited.
Shame that ATI 5770 or 6750 ($170) PC cards can't be used, even if only half the VRAM could be seen.

  • Powermac G5 Dual Core 2.0 GHZ or Macbook Pro Dual Core 2.0 GHZ

I have a Macbook Pro Dual Core 2.0 GHZ that currently has 1 GB of RAM in it. For the most part it runs fine, but I do come into problems with it sometimes while I'm doing video editing which is my main usage for my computer. I currently run Final Cut Studio 2. Would it be worth it to sell this computer and get a Powermac G5 Dual Core 2.0 GHZ or 2.3 GHZ and upgrade the RAM to 8 GB to help my video editing run smoother? The reason why I am considering this is because I would like a computer that would work better with my video editing at a cost that I can afford. I also would like to have a firewire 800 port for my external hard drives. I rarely use my internal hard drive, so that is no factor in my decision. Currently I cannot afford a new Mac Pro, but will be buying one in about a year. I'm just trying to decide if this would be a good switch for right now. Thanks for your help.

Although I don't own a Mac Pro, rumor has it that they run video chores significantly more efficiently than do the last generation G5's. I bought my 2.3 GHz, w/the 7800 card, for $600, last November on eBay. The case wasn't cosmetically perfect (a rather nasty looking crimp on the front handle) but it has performed well running my video (EyeTV and recording) and academic (I teach math & Mathematica) needs. I picked-up extra memory (it now has 6 Gigs) pretty cheap (around $75, IIRC), from Kingston. I also took the advice of many here and got a WD 640GB HD that made a significant difference in both boot-time and opening applications. However, if you're going to get a new Mac Pro in a year, it's almost like throwing money away - the G5 will probably have its' depreciation rate decrease once the software vendors no longer continue supporting pre-Intel machines. That being said, my G5 is more than sufficient handling my present version of Mathematica - I don't think that paying $3000, or whatever it takes to get a new Mac Pro, would balance the marginal increase of utility I would get using Mathematica. If I were a video guru, I might feel differently. I thought I could give you a definitive yes, buy the G5, because I really love mine. Unless something happens, I plan on having it for at least a few years. At about $250/year, if one figures that I'll have owned it for a total of 3 years, that's less than 70¢/day. But I also value the opinions of many of the posters who have commented on the new machine's speed, compared to the 2.5 GHz Quad, say.

  • Which is better for Pro Tools LE-PowerMac G5 Dual-Core 2.3Ghz or Dual 2.7Gh

I'm starting a small recording studio and I own a PowerMac G5 Dual-Core 2.3Ghz with 2GB of RAM and a PowerMac G5 Dual 2.7Ghz with 2GB of RAM. I need to keep one of them to run Pro Tools LE. • AirPort Extreme with Bluetooth 2.0+EDR Card for Apple Dual Core

    Hello everybody,
Where can I buy the AirPort Extreme with Bluetooth 2.0+EDR card for a new Apple PowerMac G5 2.3 Dual core? What websites or locations in Los Angeles sell this card?
    What workarounds are out there?
Thank you all for your answers.
Apple G5 Dual Core   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   HD Cinema Screen

The new Dual Core G5 machines do indeed come shipped in the base models without Bluetooth or Airport Extreme. There will be a solution available through the local ASP's (Apple Service Providers) and Apple Genius bars in the Apple owned Retail stores. Many of the store employees are not fully aware of the situation, however, they should be able to look up the issue in the Knowledge Base.
There is a service part (PN 661-3692), that should likely be available for future upgrades. At present, the part is constrained, and therefore restricted to exchange only repairs. You may want to contact a service provider or Apple Retail location to inquire on availability as an upgrade part, as it is currently not planned as a DIY (do it yourself) activity and would have to be obtained and installed by one of these service providers.

  • Old bios - no dual core, new bios - no graphic card

Hello. I have a old computer with a MSI K8N Neo Platinum 2 that had the 1.5 bios version. I bought an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Toledo and it wasn't being recognized as it should ("AMD Hammer Unknown Model") and only 1 core was being detected. I've updated the bios and it got recognized correctly and it's Windows experience score got from 4.2 to 5.1 and it is ok now I guess. But, with the updated bios my graphic card's driver fails to load. I tested several of them both from chipset and card manufacturer's and or they fail to load or I get a BSOD 0x50 . I've tried to find a bios version that didn't blow up the graphic card driver while fixing the dual core issue but the very version that fixes the dual core issue is the one that blows the graphic card driver. And it's name is "1.9". I tried all newer bios and the same happens with all of them. Basically, or I get dual core or I get graphic drivers. This all is happening on Windows 7 Home Basic but I'm afraid will happen on any operative system if it is a bios issue. I also changed agp related configurations in the bios but nothing changes. My graphic card is an ASUS AH4650 AGP.
    Any help is appreciated.

That PSU you have now can be bought for a little as € 5 ($ 7), shipping costs are more expensive then that
I take this opportunity to pose another question to all of you friendly individuals that are helping me with my issue.
As I told you, this pc is dated and I don't really need the PSU to be that future proof. I see that you have only recommended units branded Corsair. In the shop where I buy this kind of stuff there are another brands so I'll leave you the list hoping you can recommend me one that fits this system and that is a little bit less expensive in case you can find a good match. Pardon me if I'm abusing of your time.
    Site: http://www.novoatalho.pt/
In the left navigation menu, please chose "Componentes" - "Fontes de Alimentação", and select a brand of them or press the menu itself on "Fontes de Alimentação" to get a list of all of them.
Don't know how/if the memory I use makes it different but I have 4 dimms of 2GB combined. I was using only 1.5G but now with the new firmware the motherboard is handling 1GB + 500MB + 250MB + 250MB. The rest is hard disks and cd drives, I'm not even using a PCI card.
If you still just recommend Corsair, is absolutely fine.
Btw, another thing, please remember that this motherboard has a VGA slot not PCI-E. Don't know if that changes something for the PSU.

  • Difficulty finding a non-dual core firewire 400 card

    Hi,
I have a dual proc 2ghz G5 that I have lately been running a GRAID drive on (fw800). So I have been interested in putting the FW400 drives (1394a) on a separate bus. This is one of the most difficult things I've ever accomplished, and I'm not there yet.
Every one of thee different FW cards hasn't worked. First said nothing about Mac. My bad. Second did - but it said it work with Dual Core. Guess what? I'm not Dual Core. It get's better. Just bought one (that looks just like the first) that has a Mac symbol on the outside. Read on. Then it says - min req - a Power Mac G5. Install it... doesnt' work. Read intruction booklet (OK, I shouldn't have left this detail til last.) - "requires Mac G5 with dual core".
That was it. I am stymied. Help, anyone? Shall I get a FW800 card and flip the process of separating the buses on it's head? Any better chance any of those cards will work? This *****! (:>))

I stick to the "name brand" Sonnet, and usually anything on MacSales myself.
Video editing? I'd go with native SATA.
As for the drives, I'd actually invest in one of today's better performers, something like WD Caviar SE16 640GB. And consider the "do it yourself" on matching drives and cases.

  • Any news on G5 dual-core graphics cards?

Still waiting for something faster than my lame 6600LE. Any news?

Keep us posted doug. Carsten (?) did exactly the same as you a few weeks ago and found it helped, but held-back slightly because of the 1.1 release. Hopefully 1.1.1 unleashes the 7800 power again.
I'm in no doubt the Marketing bods in Aperture overpromised with what the 6600 delivered. I'm in no doubt someone in the dual-core G5 team needs a slap for releasing the systems with zero video card upgrades - totally unacceptable for any system manufacturer to do. Then make them available for new Customers only - talk about forbidden fruit !
As for directing people's frustrations, i use these boards to mintain visibility of the problem, the Feedback system and a time limit. I've said before despite Joe's commendable efforts to investigate, if he cannot persuade the powers in Apple to actually do something by say June 10th, then we do other things dissatisfied Customers do that Companies get embarassed about - what else is there ? Its now seven months since they created the problem and nine weeks since Joe began investigating. My bigger worry is when the new MacPros arrive our concerns drop even further down the 'top-of-the-line mac systems' priority list.
I've become a broken record on this issue (again), but until its solved, my Aperture experience very seriously degraded. I continue to put-up with it because i can see how Aperture will be an asset to my workflow in for future business. Forbidden fruit again !
