G5 dual suddenly turning off

Question

and then it wouldn't start up again - the red light would start and turn back off and the white light stayed on, but there was no other start up sounds and no fan. This happened twice. I had installed RAM about 2 months ago, so I took the RAM out, and it has started up again like normal!
Is it the RAM or is it the computer??
Also I just read there's a recall on power supplies for my serial number. This is a refurbished G5 dual 2GHZ bought in March 2006. Would this have anything to do with it?

I bought it from CDW and it is SimpleTech.
Do I need to be super-techy to do these tests you're mentioning. I am technical enough but not a major tech geek.

Sounds to me like flakey RAM, where did you buy the
RAM or do you know the brand?
You can test it using these free Progs "memtest" for
the Terminal, and 'Rember' which is memtest in a GUI
wrapper, see:

MO The really aggravating thing about flakey RAM is
that it can be very intermittent and random.
Also I have read posts before where 'switched' their
RAM sticks on the G5 and that helped, by switched I
mean banks 1+2 to banks 3+4, and vice versa (banks
3+4 to banks 1+2)

It could, its hard to tell, try the Apple Hardware
Test on your system discs.
