G5 Dual Wont Boot, light fades, fans idle, does not beep with no ram?

I have a G5 dual (non-intel)
When I push the power button, the front led comes on (until I let go), there is no chime, and all fans
are running idling
When powered on, and remove plastic tray insert, red light comes on and the fans accelerate
I have reset the PMU to no affect, I have removed all 3rd party devices, reset video card and ram to no affect
I tried the removed battery and hold down power button option, when I rebooted now the front led light blinks
once and turns on for a second and then turns off again
When I removed all the ram and booted I get no beep indication of failed ram test
Im crossing my fingers its the PRAM battery

CPU heats up on file copy/backup and fan speed does not increase

Hi Friends,
I have been having issues with fan in my Dell Studio 1555. It has an ATI Radeon card and I had installed the proprietary catalyst driver as the open source driver is too noisy.
Recently, I noticed that on accessing my hard disk and copy files or running backup (luckybackup), the temperature shoots up from around 60 deg C (just using chrome) to 100 deg C when it would shut down itself. However, it seems like the fan speed does not increase with the increase in temperature to help it cool down.
I tried to get the fan speed details with "lm-sensors" but it would not show the fan speed. Here is the output of sensors:

Following the Arch wiki, I added acpi_enforce_resources=lax to kernel parameters but it did not help as well.
Here is the main problem:
1. CPU temperature shoots on accessing hard drive but fan speed does not increase - Any guide/direction to investigate would be really helpful.
2. Sensors does not show the fan speed. Read about i8kutils, but couldn't figure out how to get it working with systemd. Any indicators here?

The fan was bad. I had to replace the fan. However, I have not been able to figure out how to see fan speed in sensors.

The Fan option does not appear for folders in the dock.

Not that I know of. When on the side no fan for folders and no 3D look, which I prefer. Background of the Dock very dark so the white dot showing an app is open is easy to see and it all looks very sophisticated.
You might check with third party apps to see if anyone is changing that, but most people don't like the fan so I doubt if anyone is working to add it in.

That is some sort of anomaly that I have also noticed. On the rare occasions when that happens, a restart corrects the issue.

Unfortunately, based on your description, I would have to second that your Express is a "goner." However, before giving up on the unit, be sure that you attempt a "factory default" reset at least 3x just to be sure.

How is the express getting internet? What modem is it plugged into?
How is the extreme setup? New extreme cannot be setup with 5.6 utility.. you must use latest 6.3. Which also means you cannot setup from computer using less than Lion .. or you must use iOS with latest utility but it has limited configuration cf the computer version.
IPv6 is also needed.. turn on local link.

Noisy harddisk or fan, laptop does not boot

I have a 2 1/2 years old 12inch PowerBook G4 which does not boot anylonger.
It has a longer history: 1 1/2 years ago the fan or hardisk started making lots of (ugly!) noise and I could hardly work anylonger: the machine was very slow. I noticed that the available space on the hard disk went below 4GB which is apparently a soft limit (needed for swap space?). But the machine was also quite warm.
I actually got it running again by cooling the laptop with some lead blocks which had been in the freezer for a while. (I still don't know why it worked!)
1 1/2 years of smooth running made me believe the machine was fine. Just before X-mas the same happened again. First only some noise with little impact on the performance (I could still make a backup of my user accout) but then the noise became worse and the computer speed went to zero. The noise also changes when rotating the laptop (up-side-down etc.) Sometimes it becomes very bad and then it makes "click" and everything stops (but also the HD). Then one hears how the HD/fan start up again and shortly after the noise comes back.
For a while I was able to boot almost fully but then it hang, now it hangs already a few seconds after switching on.
I suspected some bad bearings but could not explain the previous recovery.
Any idea?

p.s.: I don't have frozwn lead bricks anylonger to repeat the same treatment as the year before
p.s.s.: last time I did a hardware check and it told me the HD was not o.k. -- but when everything run again the test reported a working HD!

Judging by your comments, the noises you report and Disk Utility saying your hard drive was bad, I would suspect it is almost fried. Now is the time to backup your stuff!
Even though Disk Utility now says your drive is O.K., the fact that it has already reported a drive failing is cause for concern. I would head for Apple Repair after backing up.
