G5 Freeze & Crash - Chimes, Startup but No video- HELP!!

Hello all,
Have been using my Mac G5 quite a bit last 5 days, and last night when I was taking break and gaming, computer froze, monitor went black,warning tone repeated in rapid succession until I had to shut down using power button on front. The first 2 restart attempts, no chimes at startup, and no monitor. Zapped PRAM, and got the chimes back, but still no monitor. Tried booting from CD's, but without video, can't see if it worked. Noticed that just before it completes startup process, a warning tone can be heard, but no video. Checked monitor with laptop, and it is fine, so computer is not completing startup process and engaging the monitor. Any help suggestions would be worthy of worship. Have a huge job, and running out of time...video card fried??? I guess it's what you get for playing when you should be working!!

The symptoms are similar to on my G5. In my case replacing the memory cured it. Remove any extra memory and try booting.

MF Crashes on startup, but works in safe-mode and for a few minutes after making a new user, can anyone help?

After troubleshooting for a few hours, I still cannot find a proper solution. Effectively, I learned that if I create a new profile user, with this command in windows Run: "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -p , I can open the user profile menu manually, and create/delete a new/not-new user, and upon creating and using a new one, it works fine. For a couple of times opening the browser, anyway, in which it results in the same problem as before. I took a list and compared the old files to a brand new users files, and did find some differences. Take these into effect,
The compatability and extensions .ini files were differed by 3 kb , with a new user being 1, and the old user being 4.
The Local Store .rdf file differed from 2 for a new user, to 4 for an old user.
The Mime Types .rdf file differed from 3 for a new user to 4 for an old user.
Plugin Reg(istry?) .dat differed from 17 new to 20 old.
Search.json differed from 13 new to 16 old.
Search Metadata.json differed from 1 new to 4 old.
URL Classifier Key 3.txt differed from 1 new to 4 old.
Web App Store.sqlite differed from 96 new to 128 old.
(All units are KB)
Seeing as a few articles relating to the problem are "no longer maintained" and the solutions work only temporarily, I came here hoping to fix this little issue. Thank you, and good luck in advance.

Note; the first crash ID is for the new user that crashed, the last is for an old user.

I see.. I have heard rumors of this, but it did not occur to me that this would literally crash upon startup. Thank you for the help, Edmeister. Will check as "solved it" if it works. Thanks again!

I've been having problems with flash applications on browsers for the past year or two. What happens is that when a flash video starts, my browser will lag periodically. The sound will be present, but the video will freeze, and I will not be able to switch tabs, click on buttons etc. This was most noticable on YouTube at first, but it's also occuring with other sites, and it's very annoying when a site has flash ads and it causes my entire browsing experience to slow to a crawl. This isn't just a firefox problem, I've tried IE and google chrome as well, and I have also tried different Internet connections. I've tried various suggestions to fix it, such as turning off hardware acceleration, uninstalling then reinstalling flash and shockwave, reinstalling my video codecs, but they all have no effect. Can anyone help me with this problem, its driving me nuts! My browsers are all updated to the latest version, my flash player is version 11.7.700.169, and I am using Windows 7 pro (6.1, build 7601).

Do you notice any difference if you disable hardware acceleration?

IWeb keeps crashing on startup... please help!?

Hi folks; iWeb keeps crashing on startup. Checking the log, I get the following message:

(there's a lot more- about four pages worth, but I don't know if I should post it all here? Can I do an attachment?) New at this forum.
I haven't changed anything on the machine since I last worked on the site this morning... This site is for a client and they urgently need some changes. Does anyone out there know how to fix this?

I can't seem t find your model in the Toshiba US support site.
However, usually, you tap the F8 key while powering up and it brings you into the Start Up recovery menu.

Itunes crashing on startup 100% of time; help!

itunes worked fine until i downloaded 10.6.1 and then it stopped working entirely; i have tried all the fixes, new user account; uninstalling itunes, tried installing 10.5.3 but it still crashes on startup. starting in safe-mode and it still crashes.

well i fixed it....
had to reformat my pc; not the ideal fix but if you really want it to work this is the only thing that fixed it for me.

LabVIEW 64-bit crashes upon startup but LabVIEW 32-bit works fine.

Recently had to uninstall and reinstall both LabVIEW 32 and 64-bit versions because the network administrator is dumb. Now 32-bit works fine but the 64-bit version immediately crashes upon opening. Getting the following Labview Crash: Exception: Unknown (0xC06D007E) at EIP=0x000007FEFCE1940D. We're running LabVIEW 2012 on Windows 7 64 bit system.

Did you try to repair the 64-bit version? Was it working previously fine?

Safari 3.1.2 crashes on startup, but only for one user account

This is weird: If I'm logged in as one user and launch Safari, it strugggles and grinds the disk for a long time, brings my start page up partway, then crashes. If I'm logged in as another user on the same machine, Safari launches in mere seconds and works fine. I have tried re-installing Safari from scratch, and have also deleted the Library/Safari folder, all to no avail. There is clearly something about this particular user account that's messed up, but I don't know what.
This is on an 1-GHz iBook G4 running OSX 10.4.11. Safari used to work fine on this user account as well, and I don't know what might have changed.

First, have you installed any programs in that particular user account that are intended to enhance Safari or otherwise might influence internet/browsing activity? If so, uninstall those programs using their installers (which often have an uninstall option) or an included uninstaller if applicable.
If you don't have any such programs installed, or that doesn't fix the problem: Make sure you're logged into the account where Safari is having problems, make sure Safari is quit, and then open that user's home folder (indicated in a Finder window sidebar by the little house icon with the username) and open the Library folder inside it, then the Preferences window inside that.
(In other words navigate to \~/Library/Preferences, where "~" is the user's home folder.)
Locate the "com.apple.Safari.plist" file in that preferences folder and drag it to the trash.
Launch Safari and check to see if it's any better now.

I restored Mac OS 8.6 on iMac G3 Bondi blue and it freezes everytime on startup what fixes can help?

I tried messing with extensions but that doesn't seem to be causing the problem I swap the hard drive out with another one and it still freezes up, would it be the dead PRAM battery I heard that causes the computer to freeze on startup screen I also upgraded to mac os 9.2.1 and it does the same thing and I also messed with the extensions, is there any other causes I need to check?

You have a retail version of Panther. It froze up during the installation.
I'm not sure of cause. I assume it is hardware related. Try a new keyboard & mouse. Try booting without keybard & mouse.
How much memory to you have? OS X was finickic about the memory. Lots of bad memory found.
See if you can get the machine to run awhile from the cd.
Run disk utility on the hd. See if machine runs.
Run terminal commands from cd.
The idea is to sort out what works hardware wise.

Insert your startup DVD into your reader. Power down your machine. Hold down to the c key. Power on your machine. This will bootup your startup DVD.
This will bring you to a panel asking you for your language. Pick your language.
You you come to the Install Mac OS panel. Do not install.
Click on Utilities menu item. This will give you a pulldown list of utilities.
Click on the disk utility.
You are now in disk utility. Pick your disk. Click on repair it should be on the lower right of the panel.
Once the repair completes successfully, you should update your permissions.

PPro CS4.1 crash on startup...Please help.

I have read though the forum and tried every suggestion I could find and called Adobe Tech Support (x4 - they hung up each time after over an hour of waiting and explaining). I am asking for help as a last option. I have installed Production Premium CS4 on my XPsp3 box. Most programs work fine with the exception of Premiere, After Effects, and Flash. I am posting this here because it seems to be the most active forum and it is the program I am most concerned with not working. I have attached the log file. In each case (Premiere, After Effects, and Flash) the log starts with an UNKNOWN EXCEPTION and references a memory location 0x7c812afb. Any help is much appreciated; I can provide more details if necessary.

I have been unable to get Premiere to load so I have not worked with any footage at this point.
Putting aside the Administrator account for a moment, do you have any VST's, maybe from Cubase, Native Instruments, or any other audio programs?
One thing to look for is a small line of text on the Splash Screen, while the program attemps to load. This text goes by quickly, but you should be able to see what is loading. What is the last thing to load, before the crash? Hint: you might want to set up a video camera (if you have a fast machine) to tape the Splash Screen and then pause on the last line.
It could be that element, or the next - the one we do not yet see.

It sounds like your phone becomes unresponsive when watching video on it for around 24 minutes or so even after reseting safari data, and resetting the phone. I would next quit the running apps on the phone:
iOS: Force an app to close

Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that and restart the phone and test the issue again:

Hard Disk Crash, Have Backup but still problems - Help!

Hello,
My mother board, power supply and hard disk crashed, but I had my iTunes backed up using Norton Ghost. After installing a new system board, power supply and hard disk, I installed the OS, installed iTunes 7 and then restored the library from backup.
Problem is that now I have a whole bunch of songs that have a ! icon. When I try to play them, iTunes says that it cannot locate the song.
Any ideas???
Also, I have not hooked my iPod up to this machine. Will iTunes have issues with this iPod or will it recognize it since the library I restored is from that iPod?

ITunes crashes at startup...need help please!

OK, before I get a ton of links, I have looked all over and found no help for me in toher topics. If you do have links, then do give them, but I have checked stickies and so on.
I downloaded iTunes 5, and it worked for a while, except I couldn't access the music store or it crashed. After A while it crashed every time I launched it. I waited for 5.0.1 to come out, and it does the same thing. Ever since the itunes upgrade my daughter has been having trouble with her ipod and downloading. She just brought all of this to my attention last night (tearfully), and I have been trying everything that has been advised to fix the problem.
Long story short... I have uninstalled everything (itunes, ipod, quicktime) cleaned it all out multiple times as advised and each time I try to reinstall I get the error 1606 and then the error 1603 that follows. I am able to download quicktime, but not itunes and not ipod using the disk, same error. Tells me to go to the registry and correct the data values. What am I suppose to correct it with. The info listed there is: Default REG_SZ (Value not set), not sure what this all means. Please help, have a teen that is distraugt, and is making me worse. Nina

Safari crashes on launch -- but Request for Help fails to post...

For a week, I've tried to post a message,to the "Safari for Mac" forum. But it fails to post.
Instead, I get a message, advising "We'll be right back".
Other people have been posting messages during this week -- so what's wrong with mine?
My message is a request for a solution to my problem of Safari crashing immediately on launch.
The message includes a Safari Crash Report, which is quite detailed (as a textEdit file, compressed Archive, it runs to 29KB).
Hoping that this brief plea gets through. TIA.

The problems are caused by third party input managers/enhancers that have not yet been updated by their developers to comply with the standards used by Safari 4.1.and/or Safari 5.

You fill find them in one or either of these folders:

although the exact location is indicated in your crash report as quoted above - look under 'Binary Images'.
Close Safari and delete them, then restart Safari and it should be working normally. Alternatively drag them to the desktop and restart Safari. then add them back one at a time, restarting Safari every time, until you find the one (or more) causing the crash.
Check with the developers of the plug-in/s in question for updates that are Safari 5 compliant.

Blackscreen, chime sounds but nothing happens, help pls!

as preface the powerbook's dvd drive as on all of my powerbooks does not work anymore....
when i press the restart button the chime sounds and there is some HD acivity but the screen stays black, this happened after it was working just fine and i did a restart. i tried pressing the restart button for a while to reset. nothing.

About the only thing you can do is to reset the PMU and PRAM, and try a safe start. If none of those work, without a working DVD drive, or the ability to see anything on the screen, it's a trip to your local Apple store or Apple Authorized Service provider.

Video is not showing up in Safari 6.0.3, only the Quicktime Icon is displayed- but no video/ Help!! (yes Quicktime is in my installed plug ins folder)

Anyone know what I should look for? What is causing the video not to play and only the QT icon to be displayed? This has never happened before on my Safari.
