G5 iMac microphone - where is it?

Hi all
The topic line says it all. I'm curious because I'm thinking of using VOIP or some other similar program and I've been told I need a microphone/headset unit. If I wear earphones, the speakers are cut out, so that would eliminate the "echo" effect of the microphone picking up what came over the speakers, but in order to gauge the effectiveness of the mike, it would be nice to know where it is.

I am having a similar problem. I want to record some voice auido. My iMac G5 says it has a built in mic and I have selected it from the Sound Prferences panel, but I can get nothing to record using the internal mic from either iMovie or Final Cut Express...??? How do I find out it if this darn mic is really working? What kind of external mic can I use instead?
Please help.

I am still on Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and do not have iCloud in my System Preferences. I have registered with iCloud online and backed up my iphone5 last night to my iMac. Where can I find the backup on my iMac?
Below is what comes up when I sign into iCloud - where are all the other applications that I need to backup?
Appreciate any answers to this query?

Your question is unclear.  If you're backing up to your iMac, (via iTunes, with cable or WiFi), this has nothing to do with iCloud and the backup is stored on your iMac here:
    : ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/

BAckup your iPhoto library, depress and hold the option and command keys while launching iPhoto until the first aid window comes up and repair permissions and if necessary rebuild your database

  • Imac microphone won't work

Internal microphone on iMac won't work.
    any suggestions?

I just found and removed a small piece of sticky tape which was covering the mic. The mic is on the top surface of a mac - you can only just see a lighter coloured small round circle in line with the camera on the top narrow surface. My problem was sorted despite all other help and just before I gave up.  Check no-one has posted a sticky message, camera cover or even an ornament over your mic. How many folk know where the mic is?

Using Pages on my iPad, I save to iTunes to share it with my iMac.  After download I cannot find the documents in my iMac.  Not in Pages, not in iTunes, so where do they go?

Until Apple updates the desktop versions of the iWork apps you have to use iCloud.com in a web browser or iTunes to sync files. You could also try e-mail or DropBox.

  • N80 Microphone - where can I get a new one??

    Hi,
When changing the case on my N80 I have damaged the microphone, does anyone know where i can get a replacemnt? The mic in my phone is square, but all the replacement ones I see on the web and ebay are round! whats going on!??
I am sure my mic is the original because its the same as in the nokia n80 assembly video on YouTube.
The phone is a 2nd hand job off Ebay, so no warranty left.
I have tried to call the Nokia Support line, but got fed up after about 15 minutes of being on hold.
Any help gratefully received - Thanks Martin

Obviously your 2 year warranty has just gone because you have disassmebled it.
You could've took it to a Repair Centre to change the case, that way you won't lose your 2 year warranty with Nokia.
The only thing i can suggest now is a 3rd party repair centre.
We on these discussions cannot help you as advise may persuade others to do the same and void their 2 year warranty's too.
Any advise given here will be removed by a moderator anyway.
A Nokia Service Centre will repair it but not for free as usual, depending on the damage you have caused the price will vary.

  • IMac microphone not working in applications

    Hi all,
For the last few months my iMac's microphone has stopped working in applications (rather annoying when I am away from home and want to Skype friends and family!) I have configured the microphone numerous times and the iMac itself picks up my voice and commands. However, when I am on Skype or other external applications, the other side cannot hear anything I say. I have tried to do the Skype test call, my microphone isn't picked up there either, so it is definitely my microphone not their sound.
    Please can anyone help me?
    Thanks in advance!

iOS does not run on Macs.  Please update your signature.   The Audio Midi Setup application can force audio input on the microphone to be 48 Hertz, and solve most issues with audio.

  • If people cannot hear me when on FaceTime, is it my IMac microphone?

All of a sudden when I am on Skype or on FaceTime from my IMac, people cannot hear my voice.  I attempted to look at my audio settings.  Then, realized that I have audio when downstreaming a movie, or playing Itunes.
Is that an indication that my microphone has failed??

When you see the same issue on more than one hardware device, it means that the problem is likely to exist outside of the hardware.  Two things to investigate would be the software/firmware on the backup and issues with the cellular network.  It's probably safe to rule out the cellular network as well.
First, make sure that you have imported copies of all the information (pictures, videos, documents) on the device.  Do this thorough itunes, and the applications (photographic and document processing) on your computer.  Perform a firmware update then restore the device as new.  If the problem persists, then you may actually have the worst luck and discovered two devices with an identical issue.
Read each of the steps before initiating the DFU.
!.  Connect the iPhone to any computer running a fully updated version of iTunes.
    2. Press and hold both "home" and "sleep/wake" buttons
    3. After eight seconds let go of only the sleep/wake button.
    4. Keep holding the home button until you see a popup mesage in iTunes.
    5. Read all all the popups, then use iTunes to update the iPhone's software.
If the popup fails to show, repeat steps 2 through 4

  • IMac microphone compatibility

I am on my third headset that I've purchased for use with Skype on my iMac. All three headsets have failed to work on both my iMac and my MacBook. The headsets use two jacks, one for the headphones and one for the mic. It's the mic that doesn't work on either machine on any of the three headsets.
Anyone have any experience with this? These microphones are "electret condenser" type mics. And they apparently need some amount of power from the mic jack. There are three leads on the jack.
I called applecare and they didn't really even know the answer to this. Although the tech said he'd had the same problem, and ended up using a USB adapter for his headset (which is essentially a little soundcard). They guessed that the mic jacks on these machines don't supply power, but I could definitely tell it was a guess.

Macs use mics which supply at minimum line level audio signal input. If the mic cannot supply that on its own you need a preamplifier to add the umph.
In addition to USB headsets, there are some Bluetooth headsets that also work with Macs.

  • Late 2009 iMac i7 - Where to get screws to mount stand?

Does anyone know the part number(s) or where I can get the screws to re-mount the stand to my iMac?
I took it off the base to put it on a wall mount, but need to put it back on a table mount.
Does anyone know where I can get these screws?  I seem to have misplaced mine years back.

I took all the precautions and asked all the questions,
Then I trust you saw this before you did the replacement. Apparently, it's not just a question of getting a drive from the same manufacturer to use with the proprietary cable.

It's acting as if the temp sensor is not connected. I have it bookmarked amidst thousands of bookmarks but can't remember the name right now. There is some program out there that, in the absence of getting data from the internal sensor, will regulate the fan speed based on the SMART temp. If I think of it, I'll post back.
Here it is. It's meant for the 2011 iMac Apple drives, but I don't see why it wouldn't work in your situation.

BTW, I think John Galt is thinking of the 2011 iMac drives, not the late 2009s, which are not quite as impossible.

  • IChat- iMac microphone?

I'm think about buying the 20" iMac (instead of the Mac Mini) for a few reasons but mostly because of the internal iSight camera. I looked at it in the Apple Store (in photobooth) and was quite impressed with the video quality. Of course I have no idea what it will look like on the other end, connected to someone through AIM or Skype since most of my contacts don't have iChat or iSight.
My question has to do with the audio. I see on the new iMac the built-in microphone is so tiny it's almost invisible!
What is the sound quality of this pinhole mic?
Would I be better served using a dedicated headphone with built-in mic (with mini jack) or a UBS free standing mic on the desk, or maybe a bluetooth mic set up?
What would you advise for best non-delay audio?
Also, can anyone here tell me what success they've had linking iChat to someone overseas using Skype or AIM?
    Thanks, Panther

(could have sworn there was a post here that has been removed, anyway...)
To the gentleman demonstrating his rap talent using a so called 48-volt Phantom power condenser mic, unfortunately these do not work very well whilst plugged directly into any computer. Thank you for the demonstration.
There are very good condenser microphones that do work without any adapters or special cables. A fine example is the Samson CO1U USB studio condenser microphone. It would not be the first time that I have used Garageband to fulfill a special request, a moment like that requirers equipment that rises above the occasion. (you can plug it into any USB port>open iChat>Ready)
The built in microphone in your mac however will offer a competitive quality that will only be restricted by the other ends speaker(s). When I am conferencing I prefer to be seen "headset"/"big mic in the picture" free, and just talk directly to the other person like he/she is in front of me. One learns to appreciate this mac feature. (Tell the other end: "You look so busy").
Hope this answers part of your question, I'm sure they wear headsets overseas but I have not tried myself.

  • On iMac Lion where are the fractions in Pages and Mail?  They used to be under "characters" in the "Edit" drop down menu, but they aren't there anymore.

Since downloading Lion, I am unable to find fractions in the edit>special characters submenu anymore (for Pages and Mail).  Anybody know where they went to?

You could use the Auto Correction in the Pages preferences. There are several pre defined fractions. You have just to check them so you can use them in Pages. I can't help you with Lion as I don't have it.

  • I have a imac 2308. where can I find a thunderbolt to VGA adapter to add additional monitors

I am trying to attempt to add two additional dell monitors (vga) to my EMC2308 imac. I only have one thunderbolt port and have not had luck finding a thunderbolt to vga adapter. Any ideas?

A notable peculiarity of Thunderbolt is that it uses exactly the same connector as Mini Display Port, and that's not all. The Thunderbolt connector also carries Mini Display Port video signals. That means you can plug a Mini Display Port video cable/adapter in to a Thunderbolt connector and your monitor will work.
If you plan to do other things with your Thunderbolt connector and don't want it wasted on a monitor, you can also choose an HDMI --> DVI adapter, which for your purposes will be functionally equivalent.
You can even use both at the same time.
