G5/iSight Behavior Changes/Problems

Couple of things changed on my iMac. First loading cd's on to iTunes take forever and it used to start playing the disc after the first song was loaded now it doesn't play at all. if I hit play while the disc is loading it goes crazy making all kinds of noises. Second it has been freezing/locking up and most of the time if I just leave it alone for a few minutes it unlocks itself. I empty the cache, clear history, repaired permissions, and vacuumed the vents recently so what else do I need to do?

Try running Disk Utility:
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
hen reboot and repair permissions. It would be a good idea to look at Activity Monitor to see if anything is hogging your PU as well.

  • New window behavior change FF 29.0.1

    New window behavior changed with FF 29.0.1. I have a custom page that I built that has a bunch of links to sites/pages that I visit frequently. Every one of the links on that page begins with <a target="_blank" href=" >
    I typically keep this page maximized and until FF 29.0.1, when I clicked one of those links, it opened in a new maximized window. If I had the page restored instead of maximized, when I clicked one of those links it opened in a new restored window. In other words, the new window was opened in the same window state as the page from which I clicked the link. Now, when I click a link on a maximized window, it opens in restored view and I have to manually maximize it. It's a pain in the patoot.
    I'd like to know how to change FF to return to the previous behavior and also why someone felt it was necessary to change this behavior.

  • Shadow Behavior Changed after Pro Update

    I have a finished 3D animation that was done just before the update.
    It consists of a person standing on top of (perpendicular to) a flat plane. A stationary spotlight is casting a shadow of the person onto the plane as the camera is animated rotating 90 degrees around the front of the comp. I have about 12 of these comps with different people for the duration of the animation
    Prior to the update the shadow's behavior was unchanging throughout the animation for every comp. Now, after the update the shadow seems to blur/fade in for the 1st 45 degrees of the animation for some. For others it stays blurry/faded for the whole animation.
    What gives?! Is anybody else having issues with casted shadows in 3D comps?

    Thanks everyone for your input.
    I have finally been able to fix the problem, but I have no explanation of why it happened to begin with. After trying all of your suggestions for replacing cameras and lights I wound up checking my original comps lights settings.
    I had set the shadow softness to '20". For some reason Motion was interpreting this differently between updates. Going back to the original comp and setting the shadow softness to "0" brought everything back in line to it original behavior (i.e. no behavior change on animation).
    While I'm glad to have solved the problem I believe that this is a bug in the software that needs to be addressed.
    Thanks again guys!

    Dears,
      After I transported real-time cube from DEV to QA system, I found that all the real-time cube load behavior changed from 'can be loaded, planning not allowed' to 'can be planned, load not allowed'. What happened? Or I'm enpackaging this type cube with wrong step? Any suggestions are appreciated.

  • While using my iPhone the system behavior changed where I now have to click on the app to select it, then double click to launch it. Same goes for entering in my password to access the phone and entering digits to make a phone. I am also having trouble

    While using my iPhone the system behavior changed where I now have to click on the app to select it, then double click to launch it. Same goes for entering in my password to access the phone and entering digits to make a phone. I am also having trouble swiping the screen to move to the next page. This is no longer working. I did not change any settings, the phone just started behaving this way. Any ideas on how to revert back to the single click selection/launch? Any assistant is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    Edge has very clear restrictions, one being that you must have 6 months of clean payment history which you don't. Either wait until April 14, or good luck at Sprint.
    I am unsure how it can be determined the payment mix up was the fault of CS, but regardless, the mix up was done. There can be any number of reasons why a payment could be missed without any fault on your part, however you are still the responsible party for the account and must live with the repercussions.

  • DB- get() behavior change as of 4.5.20

    I wanted to post information we have recently learned about new behavior in DB->get(), which is undocumented from what I can tell. This change caused a threading bug in our code when we upgraded from 4.2.52. It also affects DBCursor->get(DB_SET) to a lesser extent.
    Traditionally, DB->get() on a btree produces data, but does not produce a key, since the key passed in is used for exact match. A change was made in 4.5.20 which causes DB->get() to produce a key if a custom comparator function has been specified (set_bt_compare). The comments in the code (in the cursor get function, __db_c_get) indicate this change was made under the assumption that the compare function may be "magic" and the key passed in may not be the same as the key in the database (except in the eyes of the compare function), so the actual database key is now returned.
    Unfortunately, under the assumption that DB->get() treats the key as read-only, we were using a key DBT whose "flags" were zero. The BDB code tries hard to ensure that when a DB is threaded (opened with DB_THREAD) all DBTs which will be written (key or data) have some memory management flag set (DB_DBT_USERMEM, DB_DBT_REALLOC, etc.). Otherwise, BDB will use an internal buffer associated with the (shared) DB handle, causing threading problems. However, in the case of this new behavior, the flag checking was not augmented to account for this case. Instead, the flag checking code still believes a key will only be written if the get() is called with DB_SET_RECNO, DB_CONSUME or DB_CONSUME_WAIT, which are the only cases documented to modify the key DBT.
    To summarize, we have an undocumented change in behavior, combined with a lack of correspondingly expanded flag safety checks, setting up for threading problems of various sorts.
    The simple workaround is to always set the DBT up as DB_DBT_USERMEM, though in this case the key DBT will still be written, perhaps unexpectedly. If the key's buffer was in read-only memory, this would cause an access violation instead of a threading problem.
    Though this change was obviously intentional, I have some trouble understanding how one gets a key into BDB which is different than the key what will be used for retrieval (the use case this change seems to be addressing). But I imagine there was a specific instance of such a situation from some user. Perhaps an additional flag or setting on the DB to control this behavior, letting the user pro-actively indicate the found key should be returned, would reduce unnecessary key copying, as well as avoiding potential bugs. I have to imagine most custom compare functions are for custom sort order, not for performing a magic transformation between the key in the search and the key in the database, and the key used in get is actually identical to the key found in the database.

    Bumping this. Perhaps I wasn't clear. The documentation cited by Sandra does explain that sometimes people use comparison functions that will match on a partial key. But it also specifically says:
    "When partial keys are specified to Berkeley DB, interfaces which retrieve data items based on a user-specified key (for example, DB->get and DBcursor->get with the DB_SET flag), will not modify the user-specified key by returning the actual key stored in the database."
    The part about "will not modify the user-specified key" is the issue. As of 4.5.20, BDB will modify the user-specified key, even if the user-specified key is identical to the stored key. Since it is actually counter to the cited documentation, you can understand that it would be unexpected. The side-effects and results are described in my original posting.
    Since Sandra has found documentation that contradicts the current behavior, I would now consider this new behavior a bug. Such a change really needs to be introduced in a backward compatible way, such as through the use of new flags on the DB handle.

  • Switch Linked (xl source) Tables - behavior change Excel 2010 PP vs. Excel 2013 PP -- In 2013 all calcs of table are lost

    Situation:
    PowerPivot 2010 Model based on 10 linked tables (this tables are generated and refreshed as needed by SQL 2012 MDS Excel-AddIn)
    Unfortunately Excel MDS AddIn changes sometimes the tablename (case: MDS Add-In Filter changed, MDS Server changed). So after Change of tablename we have to fix the powerpivot link to this Excel tables in powerpivot to get powerpivot refresh working again
    Problem:
    With Excel 2010 PowerPivot this was possible without big Problems. As Long as table has identical structure one can Change/Switch the table in powerpivot Windows > Ribbon "Linked" Table > DropDown "Linked Table X" or during update
    via Dialog "Errors in Linked Table"
    After upgrading the solution to Excel 2013 this is not possible any more without loosing any column- or measure calcs defined for this table! :( Every time you Change the assigned Excel table for an existing linked powerpivot table..you
    get following Dialog:
    "You are changing the source of X to Excel table Y. Changing the source will remove all formatting, measures, KPIs, hierarchies, and other Settings applied to the table. Are you sure you want to to continute?"
    Does anyone found a Workaround for persisting existing calc of linked tables when changing the sourcetable (to another Excel table with same structure)??
    Dear MS, this is IMHO really a step backwards and blocks the migration of our existing Excel 2010 PowerPivot Solution? Should i create a connect entry for that?!
    Version-Info:
    2010 Version: 11.0.3000.0 (PP Ribbon>Settings)
    2013 Version: 11.0.2809.81 (Product version displayed for dll c:\program files\Microsoft Office\Office15\Addins\PowerPivot excel Add-In\PowerPivotExcelClientAddIn.dll)

    There is a very similar issue discussed here where i tried to show the different behavior in terms of linked tables in Excel/PowerPivot 2010 vs 2013
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/8fd927f7-30fd-49b7-809c-cb1414955638/linked-tables-excel-2013-vs-2010-difference?forum=sqlkjpowerpivotforexcel
    maybe it helps you to understand the issue
    I assume that MDS creates a new table every time you refresh it thereby breaking the link to PowerPivot
    in case you only have calculated measure you may created a separate, independent linked table and define all calculated measures there
    this way they at least would not get removed

    Greeting, Lars. With your upgrade to Tiger, it seems you have encountered the Possible hardware or software conflicts.
    While not universal, such complaints seem more frequent when more than one app or device may be using (or trying to access) iSight. The suggestions in the link above give most people usable workarounds. You have already discovered one (using only one app at a time.)
    The fact that you did not have this problem with iChat AV 2.1 in Panther give a couple of troubleshooting ideas that may help you.
    Check the EyeTV web site and its help/support info there to see whether firmware or software updates are available to resolve the problem for Tiger users. If other Tiger / EyeTV users are experiencing the same issue since changing to Tiger, EyeTV may already have answers. Perhaps EyeTV is currently working a solution to return performance to the same level as was available under Panther?
    Alternatively, you may find that some of the suggestions in Help for iChat AV 3 Problems yield improvement. Although not intended to specifically address conflict issues like yours, the OS X Maintenance, QuickTime version or reinstallation, or the Combo Updater suggestions there have all helped others suffering a wide variety of problems.
    Finally, with the increased processor load and bandwidth requirements of iChat AV 3 over iChat AV 2.1, you will likely benefit from running iChat AV 3 alone (with no other open applications,) at least until you resolved all other possible issues.
    If you want to submit feedback directly to Apple about this issue rather than just seeking suggestions from us iSight users, send Feedback for the closest related application from the list of Product Feedback.
    If you find any better solutions, please let us know.
    Cheers,
    Jim

  • 3.1 download behavior changed?

    The behavior of file download appears to have changed between 3.0 and 3.1.
    In 3.0, if I right clicked a link to a file and selected "download linked file", the file simply downloaded.
    In 3.1, if I do the same thing, the file is downloaded and the file opened with the associated application, if any.
    If this change is deliberate, is there any way (short of breaking the file association) to suppress this behavior? I much preferred the 3.0 way.

    I had the same problem. I took another computer, downloaded itunes and then checked for updates. I downloaded the iphone 2.0 compatibility and declined the 3.1 version. This seems to have fixed the problem so far. I'll post again if something goes wrong.

  • Why does this script behavior change with the phase of the moon ?

    Can anyone from adobe corp or non-adobe volunteers tell me where to look in their docs to find out why this script change its behavior or how to use the debugger to figure out the same. I read the guide and the whole section on debugger and break points etc well.
    try{
    this.getField('Button4').strokeColor = color.red   ;
    app.setTimeOut( "this.getField('Button4').strokeColor = color.green ;" , 500 );
    app.setTimeOut( "this.getField('Button4').strokeColor = color.blue  ;" , 1000 );
    app.setTimeOut( "this.getField('Button4').strokeColor = color.red   ;" , 1500 );
    app.setTimeOut( "this.getField('Button4').strokeColor = color.green ;" , 2000 );
    app.setTimeOut( "this.getField('Button4').strokeColor = color.blue  ;" , 2500 );
    app.setTimeOut( "this.getField('Button4').strokeColor = color.red   ;" , 3000 );

    app.setTimeOut( "this.getField('Button4').strokeColor = color.blue  ;" , 4000 );
    catch(e){}
    Sometimes the above script cycle thru all the colors in proper order and other time it get stuck.
    I have linked it to a button so its part of the button javascript.
    Is there a way to craft setTimeOut calls that it becomes a reliable delay ?
    How to craft it such that the file does not change and does not have to be saved ? This is wanted in addition but not the essential issue at the moment.

    timeout.count = 0;
    console.println('End of code');
    // And observe the results. I expect your new timer events are conflicting with each other. Note that in the above code the change is performed within the called function and not as new line of code.
    I ran it but did not follow your last comment and acrobat disk icon prompts for saving the file. Can anyone remove this "latter problem" ? Can it be solved by any means ?

  • ISIM behavioral simulation problem

    Hello, I have following problem. There is a module with two inputs and one output. Is input clock signals and a long (relative to frequency) asynchronous strobe. In identifying the strobe (0 to 1), the modules must be put to the output pulse of a long period of frequency.
    I have implemented this module as follows:
    library IEEE;
    use IEEE.STD_LOGIC_1164.ALL;
    use IEEE.STD_LOGIC_ARITH.ALL;
    use IEEE.STD_LOGIC_UNSIGNED.ALL;
    entity pulse_gen is
    port (
    CLK : in std_logic := '0';
    STROBE : in std_logic := '0';
    PULSE : out std_logic := '0'
    end entity pulse_gen; -- pulse_gen
    architecture Behavioral of pulse_gen is
    begin
    generation : process( CLK )
    variable strt_pulse : std_logic := '0';
    variable prev_strobe : std_logic := '0';
    begin
    if (rising_edge(CLK)) then
    --STROBE 0-to-1 catching part
    if (prev_strobe = '0' and STROBE = '1') then
    prev_strobe := '1';
    strt_pulse := '1';
    end if;
    if (prev_strobe = '1' and STROBE = '0') then
    prev_strobe := '0';
    end if;
    --STROBE 0-to-1 catching part end
    --PULSE driver
    if (strt_pulse = '1') then
    strt_pulse := '0';
    PULSE <= '1';
    else
    PULSE <= '0';
    end if ;
    end if ;
    end process ; -- generation
    end architecture ; -- Behavioral
    and I am using it for this test:
    LIBRARY ieee ;
    USE ieee.std_logic_1164.all ;
    USE ieee.std_logic_arith.all ;
    ENTITY tv_sync_gen_tb IS
    END ;
    ARCHITECTURE tv_sync_gen_tb_arch OF tv_sync_gen_tb IS
    SIGNAL CLK : STD_LOGIC := '0' ;
    SIGNAL STROBE : STD_LOGIC := '0' ;
    SIGNAL PULSE : STD_LOGIC := '0' ;
    COMPONENT pulse_gen
    PORT (
    CLK : in STD_LOGIC ;
    STROBE : in STD_LOGIC ;
    PULSE : out STD_LOGIC
    END COMPONENT ;
    BEGIN
    CLOCKING:
    CLK <= not CLK after 5 ns;
    FRAME_STROBE:
    STROBE <= '1' after 55 ns,
    '0' after 125 ns;
    DUT : pulse_gen
    PORT MAP (
    CLK => CLK ,
    STROBE => STROBE ,
    PULSE => PULSE
    END ;
    the result was the following timing diagram:
    But if I implement modules little different then getting another temporary diagram.
    library IEEE;
    use IEEE.STD_LOGIC_1164.ALL;
    use IEEE.STD_LOGIC_ARITH.ALL;
    use IEEE.STD_LOGIC_UNSIGNED.ALL;
    entity pulse_gen is
    port (
    CLK : in std_logic := '0';
    STROBE : in std_logic := '0';
    PULSE : out std_logic := '0'
    end entity pulse_gen; -- pulse_gen
    architecture Behavioral of pulse_gen is
    signal strobe_interconnection : std_logic := '0';
    begin
    strobe_intcon:
    strobe_interconnection <= STROBE;
    generation : process( CLK )
    variable strt_pulse : std_logic := '0';
    variable prev_strobe : std_logic := '0';
    begin
    if (rising_edge(CLK)) then
    --STROBE 0-to-1 catching part
    if (prev_strobe = '0' and strobe_interconnection = '1') then
    prev_strobe := '1';
    strt_pulse := '1';
    end if;
    if (prev_strobe = '1' and strobe_interconnection = '0') then
    prev_strobe := '0';
    end if;
    --STROBE 0-to-1 catching part end
    --PULSE driver
    if (strt_pulse = '1') then
    strt_pulse := '0';
    PULSE <= '1';
    else
    PULSE <= '0';
    end if ;
    end if ;
    end process ; -- generation
    end architecture ; -- Behavioral
    PS .: What literature I should read to avoid similar errors?

    Clearly you have a race condition.  Your first case changes the strobe and clock lines at exactly the same time including delta time.  That's why it doesn't delay the pulse like you see in the second case.  If strobe is a synchronous input, it should be changed only 1 delta delay (or more) after the rising clock edge in the test bench.  If strobe is an asynchronous input, then your code will not work correctly in hardware because the prev_strobe variable is being compared to an asynchronous input signal, and therefore the time when one is high and the other low can become infinitesimally small when the input signal changes just before the clock edge.

  • MenuBar skin change problem

    I am trying to skin an mx:Menubar in a FLEX project and have encountered a strange problem. I have given the component an FXG background, but I would like the background to change on mouse over and mouse down events. To achieve this I I have a stylesheet linked to custom MenuBarSkin.mxml skins.
    For some reason when the mouse is over the component the background doesn't change. However if I move the mouse over the component a second or third time it works. The same thing happens during mouse down events. If I click on the component just once the background remains the same. If I click again it works.
    Main.mxml (spark Application component):
    <fx:Style source="style.css"/>
    style.css:

         backgroundSkin: ClassReference("MenuBarSkin_Normal");
         item-down-skin: ClassReference("MenuBarSkin_Down");

    From what I have read on the internet skinning the menubar component is a real pain in the *** and many people seem to have problems with it.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Martin

    I think you are encountering an issue that has been fixed recently. http://javafx-jira.kenai.com/browse/RT-18859
    Please try with the latest promoted build and hopefully you should not see the odd behavior between menus and textfields.
    The second issue about the Menubar not moving when the browser window moves is a known issue and is being currently looked at - here is the bug if you would like to track it. http://javafx-jira.kenai.com/browse/RT-15970.

  • AD Password Change Problem

    Hi,
    We are using a number of Intel based OSX 10.4 machines bound to a Windows 2003 Forest / Domain.
    We have run into a problem where users are unable to change there AD passwords using the Access applet from within System Prefs, it gives an error about a possible policy problem. I have tried doing the same thing using the Kerberos utility which gives similar results. If we set a user account to force the password to be changed the next login it works which is puzzling. Password changes are working without problem from within our Windows environment.
    I was wondering if anyone can shed any light on the matter?
    Many Thanks
    Tim
