G5 iSight issue

Please read this. http://macteens.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=9368&st=0
This is about my mac, to take or not to take in for service? Can I fix this on my own?

Have you run Rember to check your RAM? Soldered RAM can go bad as well as sticks. Did you perform the Archive and Install?

  • Who can help me out with my built-in iSight issue?

Okay, so I have a question regarding my built-in iSight.
Now, I know... This question may have been asked before but I just can't find it, I guess it got lost in the mass.
If you would be friendly enough to forward me the message or instruct me on what I need to do to solve this, that would be a great help.
Also, I'd like to know if I have to reset anything will I lose everything on my Mac? Should I make an external backup?
So basically the issue is that whenever I turn on Photo Booth the only thing I get is a black screen.
The program will let me take a picture, but when I want to see a preview of the image, it's not there.
I then tried to use my iSight with iChat, which worked perfectly fine. After that I did the same with Skype,
but Skype didn't let me see anything but black as well.
Can anyone help me please?? Is this an issue that can be fixed myself or should I bring it to the Apple Store?
As this is a very important matter to me, because my parents are moving out of the country soon and I would like
to keep in touch through Skype, I would really appreciate all the help!!!
    Thank you in advance guys!

You have a software problem that will require troubleshooting.  With your parents moving soon, I understand your concern.
Because you have been unable to correct the problem using the suggestions that are already posted in iSight discussions, I suggest you make an external backup and then take your Mac to the Apple Store for service.
If you like, the Apple Store may even be able to suggest training that will allow you to troubleshoot and fix future occurrences on your own.

  • Built in iSight issue with Vonage softphone?

I'm not certain if this is similar to the post by Francisco Viana but I've lost my built in iSight too, and as far as I can tell started after having loaded Vonage's softphone which has a known issue with the Intell processor in MacBook.
I'll remove softphone from my MacBook but is there any way to tell if this is the culprit otherwise?

  • Isight issues & finder problems

my macbook has been acting a little weird lately - i had issues getting it to shut down & restart over the weekend and then today when i turned it on the green light of my isight is on and i cant get it to turn off. if you open up an application like photobooth though the picture window is black. ive tried restarting several times just cant make it go away.
also - when i open up my HD in finder the sidebar is blank except for my HD & network. the preferences are set up to show everything but things like today and yesterday arent appearing. please help - i have two huge deadline this week and dont want to be worrying about my laptop freaking out on me.

    Hello Boyan,
... the green light on the isight turns on for about 5 seconds then turns off.
I do not use repeater cables or external hubs, but I do not think the repeater cable has anything to do with the function of your green light.
Don't worry about the light going out. My iSight green light turns off after I plug my iSight in, too. My iSight works fine. The light comes back on when I start video.
If you cannot get help from your vendor's Support site or phone contact number, try the following.
If your iSight does not work (with or without the green light), check the the iSight Tips and FAQ.
In the FAQ folder, you will find Apple's Sight: FireWire connectivity frequently asked questions (FAQ). That may give you some ideas.
You might also find useful ideas in the Possible hardware or software conflicts with iSight. FAQ.
    If not there, try the
    b Compatibility and troubleshooting information
section of Apple's iSight Support Page, which is also linked in the iSight FAQs.

  • ISight Issues on Late 2008 MacBook Pro-Please Help

I am having issues where my iSight Camera will work and then not work. This happens in all applications that use the iSight. I have tried resetting the PMU, zapping the PRAM, and creating another user and logging in as that user...all with the same results. I wanted to know if there was some other fix I could try as this is my second replacement MacBook Pro. The first one I got Apple replaced because of manufacturing defects (slanted keyboard and loose battery door) a week after I bought it and now this replacement one which is less the three months old has a bad iSight camera. I really don't want to send it in for repair so if there is another fix I can try, please let me know. I am getting really frustrated with Apple's lack of quality these days.

    Final relevant suggestion from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
"If your built-in iSight camera is still not behaving correctly after trying all these steps, you may need to contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service."

  • Built in iSight issues since big update.

I ran and installed a load of updates on Monday and this included a iFEE(??) one for intel chip stuff.
    Anyhoo,
All worked ok the then next time I turned on my Mac book, the green iSight indicatr came on as well and woudn't turn off but in iChat video preview was on the options on the task bar but the picture was black. Did a restart and it went away and the video preview bit vanished from iChat. Turned it on this morning and the same thing happened regarding the indicator light. Restarted and all gone.
This Mac book is only 2.5 weeks old - stuff shouldn't be happening!
Any suggestions? I see it's similar to the problem posted by Telemund except my light does go off on shutdown.

    Hello Chav
You may have a hardware problem that requires the services of an Apple Technician, but it seems more likely that one or more of your updates is not quite right. To find out, use the following suggestions:
For any installer/updater that asks for an administrator password whether Apple or third-party software, I stop (Quit) the installer, repair permissions (click here if you need help), run the installer again, restart if directed by the installer, immediately repair permissions again, and then check to be sure that things are working correctly. The reason for this process is, first, to ensure that the installer has appropriate access (permissions) to all files that it needs to access in order to install the update, and, second, to ensure that your file permissions are restored to their correct state in case the installer somehow changed something that it shouldn't have. If your Mac's Software Update... prompts you to update several apps, you can download the updaters from Apple Downloads and run each one after its own permissions repair to assure permissions repair before and after each update like this::
     repair permissions -> update 1 -> repair permissions -> update 2 -> repair permissions -> ...
The above process is not required unless you are asked to enter an administrator's password, but repairing permissions cannot do any harm (other than waste a bit of time), so I make it my habit to use the process on every install or update.
If you did not use that procedure when you updated, try repairing permissions now. Then check to see if your iSight problem persists. If it does, try the following suggestions, testing after each one to see if that is the fix that solves your problem.
    (1) Try the relevant suggestion for built-in iSight in Apple's How to Troubleshoot iSight.
Be sure to include the checks for whether the problem is "application-specific" and "user-specific". Click here if you need help creating a new user account to check whether your problem is "user-specific" during Troubleshooting. Problems that are "application-specific" indicate trouble with the application rather than your iSight or OS.
    (2) If resetting or the other Troubleshooting suggestions do correct your problem, you can try the following:
    • Backup your Home Folder, or at very least, your important files.
    • Repair permissions.
    • Then download and apply the Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update v1.1 (Intel)
    • Finish with another Permissions Repair, and then check your iSight again.
Users have reported fixes to a variety of audio, video, connectivity, and software conflicts and unreliability issues after properly applying Combo Updates.
    (3) Some iNtel Mac laptop users have also reported success after unplugging their Macs and leaving the battery out for half-an-hour to overnight. Be sure to disconnect everything including power and peripherals while you battery is removed.
    (4) If none of these suggestions help, contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for a professional check.

  • ISight Issues

Hi. I have a black MacBook which occasionally gives me problems with the iSight camera. Sometimes during the start up procedure, the led next to the camera comes on but the camera itself won't work when I open iChat or any other program using iSight. Rebooting the Mac doesn't resolve the issue, but shutting down completely, waiting a minute or so then starting up again does but eventually the problem comes back.
Does anybody else have this problem and is teir a fix for it?
    Thanks for any help.

    Hello, Jon
While you await a response from a MacBook user, try every suggestion re: Built-in iSight in How to Troubleshoot iSight. Be sure to include the checks for whether the problem is "application-specific" and "user-specific".

  • ISight issues with new macbook pro Retina ?

Hi all, since I have my new MPB with Retina display I have been having some issues with the isight camera, when it first boots in photobooth of facetime sometimes the screen (from the camera) is all blue or green and with some weird line and then it stabilizes for a while but the image is all grainy and looks cheap. The guy at the apple hotline told me to reset the SMC and it seemed to have improved a bit but it's still not that good !
Any ideas on what could be happening ?
    Thank you all

You're welcome - I Googled "Macintosh webcams" and came up with quite a few different units.
    Good luck,

  • MBP and iSight issue

My iSight was working fine yesterday, but today it says another application is using it even after rebooting. Any suggestions other than a complete reset? Will I need any of the CDs that came with the MBP to fix it? (Doable, but a bit difficult to get to.)
    Thanks!

    Hello JennC29
Your problem may be hardware related, but until you get better suggestions from iNtel Mac users, here are some common solutions that help most avoid a visit to their Apple Service Technician.
None of the suggestions is complicated, but the only way to find which one will work for you is to keep trying them until you find the one that fixes your Mac.
    (0) Disconnect any unnecessary peripherals while you do your testing to rule out possible conflicts.
    (1) Restart your Mac. Sometimes that is all that is required.
    (2) If you use VMware Fusion to run Windows on your Mac, consider disconnecting iSight from your Virtual Machine as recommended by user "The.VCI" in this post.
    (3) If you use an HP printer/scanner with your Mac, consider the "daemon" suggestions from user "parkersal" in this post.
    (4) Check for any running applications, Login Items, or widgets that can use your iSight. (It is easy to forget widgets like Mirror in your Dashboard.) As explained in Apple's iSight "Your camera is in use by another application" message, iSight can be used by one application at a time.
    (5) Try every suggestion re: Built-in iSight in How to Troubleshoot iSight. Be sure to include the checks for whether the problem is "application-specific" and "user-specific".
Click here if you need help creating a new user account to check whether your problem is "user-specific" during Troubleshooting.
    (6) If resetting or the other troubleshooting suggestions do correct your problem, try the following:
    - Backup your Home Folder, or at very least, your important files.
    - Repair permissions. (Click here if you need help.)
    - Then download and apply the Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update v1.1 (iNtel).

    (7) A few iNtel Mac laptop users have also reported success after unplugging their Macs and leaving the battery out for half-an-hour to overnight.
    (8) If none of these suggestions help, I suggest that you take your iMac to your Apple-Authorized Service Provider for a professional check.
To help others who may have the same problem, please post back which solution gets yours working again.

  • Having trouble with 10.4.6 update - ipod and isight issues

    Hi everyone.
Got my first mac a few weeks ago, and ran a host of updates all at once, so to be honest, I'm not sure which one is causing the problem.
However, since running the following, my built in isight no longer works, telling me "no camera is attatched or it is being used by another app."
I ran the updates whilst my ipod was connected (via USB), and now my ipod is not being recognised at all, in itunes or on the desktop.
I've tried turning off, unplugging everything, deleting all 3rd party apps, but all to no avail.
My main question is, is this a known problem and will a further update sort it, or do I have to contact apple and send it back?
Thanks for reading this, and thanks in advance for any advice.
    Cheers, Ben.

    Some sucsess so far.
If I plug the ipod into my hub then it seems to work fine. But both my ipod and an external drive don't work through the other two usb ports. I'm assuming that that must make it a hardware fault, but odd that it should only occur after the update!?
I'm currently backing up everything, but once that's done I will try different devices through different ports.
The isight is the built in one though, and doesn't appear in system profiler. Once I've backed up I might try reinstalling photobooth, imovie and ichat. If that fails I might reinstall os x.
    Does this all sound resonable?
And thanks for the help! The speed and quality of the replies have really impressed me.

  • The dreaded iSight issue

I was getting that issues that everyone was talking about so I decided it was time for a reinstall. Well, after I formated and reinstalled, copied over some files from backup, it still did it. Any ideas?
Was it something I copied over do you think? I copied over all my pictures (I think Photo Booth) is in there...

    Another possible solution...

In the years I have been posting here, some users reported that plug-ins installed by Delicious Library cause conflicts with external iSight. DL works for some, but I do no recall a reliable and universal fix for external iSight users who encounter a problem with this app. If you like, you can see if any of the info from this search of Discussions helps you:

Ever since I installed Mac OS X Lion, my camera hasn't been working. I don't even get the green light when I try and turn it on. Instances where I can't use it? Skype, Photo Booth, FaceTime, and other Apps that need a camera.

    Hi,
The Apple Trouble Shooting an iSight article says check all apps then check the same in another Mac User Account then the System Profiler.
IF it is not in the System Profiler (Under USB) then the SMC/PMU reset is the only step they speak about.
Having said that some people have found that doing A Safe Boot and then restarting the computer seems to help.
After that it will be a trip to the Repair Man.

  • ISight Issues on OSX

I've recently been having problems with iSight on my MBP Late 2008 15" unibody. (OSX 10.6.5) What I've tried:
    - Done PRAM/SMC resets multiple times.
    - Tried multiple iSight apps including Skype, Photo Booth and iMovie - all report that I do not have a camera connected.
    - System Profiler shows that the Built-In iSight camera is connected via USB
    - Created and tried new account, also says no camera connected.
    - iSight+Skype works on Windows 7 via Boot Camp
    Any suggestions? Thanks.

You have done excellent troubleshooting, yectep
It seems you have done everything suggested by http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
Your post leads me to believe that software problems are the underlying cause of your symptoms. The 10.6.5 Combo Update might correct this problem. If you do not already have an update method you trust, here is the process I use:
      • Backup your Mac and turn off Time Machine
      • Disconnect peripherals and restart Mac
      • Use Disk Utility to repair permissions
      • Download and install http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1324
      • Repair permissions again immediately following the restart that finishes the update.
      • Test iSight again with http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
(• Turn Time Machine on again when you are satisfied that all us well.)
*If the problem continues after properly applying the Combo Update*, use your Snow Leopard install DVD to reinstall OS X. Then test iSight again.
Please let us know how it goes. If your problem continues, when you post back tell us if your iSight ever worked correctly and whether you have verified that any third-party AV updates you use with OS X (Flip4Mac, etc.) have been updated to the versions compatibile with 10.6.5.

  • Need help with 24" ACD USB/Speaker/iSight Issue

My 24" Apple Cinema Display is about six months out of warranty.
I've tried both my 15" i5 MBP and my MacBook Air with the same result: The USB ports at the back are dead, I get no sound from the monitor speaker (it still routes sound through the laptop speakers, such as they are) and the iSight appears dead as well.
I've tried restarting the computers and monitor; no result. I have not tried resetting the PRAM, etc., as I would imagine the same problem would not exist on two systems simultaneously.
Would anyone be able to give me an idea of the problem without my carting it to the Genius Bar first?
Since the display works normally otherwise - the marvelous display itself is unaffected - I have to assume that the problem lies either in the USB cable or connection, or in some sort of internal USB/Speaker/iSight bus. If anyone knows how the current crop of ACDs is constructed, or if you've taken yours apart, I'd be pleased to hear from you.
    Thanks for your time!
