G5 iSight monitor dims

have just noticed that the monitor on my G5 suddenly dims after being switched on for a few minutes.
the light is set to brightest and the dim monitor before going to sleep is un-checked. is there anything else or is it something terminal?
cheers

yep recalibrated, yep all is as was when i bought it 8 weeks ago, only hting i have added is the BT mighty mouse
although since i posted this i did the thing where you switch off then plug and turn on then turn on - i'm sure there's a snappier way of saying that - and it hasn't apparently done it since...
would that have helped? the test proper is when i switch it on again from cold in the morning.
thanks for your input though, i take it it is no longer snowy

Left hand side of monitor dims on 2011 /intel based iMac-any suggestions? Called apple support. Restarted-didn't help. Unplugged my second monitor from the thunderbolt port-didn't help. Unplugged center cord in the middle on the back of the monitor-waited 15 seconds, restarted, held down option-command-p-r and this didn't help. Apple support thought that it was most likely a video card/hardware issue, but would like to hear of any other trouble shooting suggestions.

Not a hardware issue, since it shows up in a screenshot. Please boot in safe mode, launch Safari, and test. Same problem?
Some things won't work in safe mode, possibly including wireless networking.
After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode.)

  • Monitor dims and brightens randomly...

Half of my monitor dims and brightens randomly and the automatic brightness is turned off. It started doing it before and I turned off the automatic brightness. Now it's doing it to the entire or screen or sometimes it just does it to only half the screen. How can I fix this or what is wrong?

Sounds like a bad backlight or backlight inverter.
Contact Apple Support or call your Local Apple Service Provider and make arrangements to have it checked out.

  • Is there a way to have an external monitor dim like the main screen on an iMac?

i have an apple 24 inch external monitor attached to a 27 inch imac. the main screen dims according to the energy saver settings but the external monitor stays bright. there seem to be no settings in the energy saver pane in system settings to control the dim function, any suggestions?

could you not just connect it with the vga adapter and then turn the brightness of your screen all the way down so there is no light? i had to do that for my ibook g4 when i cracked the lcd, but thankfully i have my macbook now.

  • Flat Panel Monitor Dimming

I have an iMac G4 Flat Panel monitor that keeps dimming itself to the lowest setting. This seems to happen when it goes to sleep. When the user awakens the iMac it stays dim and we have to go into System Preferences and choose monitor and then slide the brightness bar to the right.
Any ideas on how to stop it from getting Dim so many times during the day?

La in SC,Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Try zapping the PRAM. The other option is to trash the file: Macintosh HD > Users > <your username> > Library > Preferences > com.apple.systempreferences.plist . This will clear your preferences but often solves issues regarding preferences as the system re-generates a new plist file. The best thing to do is just move the file to the trash and not delete it. If it doesn't clear your fault you can restore all your preferences by dragging it back.

  • Need iMac G5 (iSight) monitor calibration help (RGB Channels?)

I understand the need to calibrate my display so that the final print matches what I see on my display. I plan to use the Gretag Macbeth Eye One Display calibrator, which I have already used on my last CRT monitor, with good results. I needed to adjust the Brightness, Contrast and RGB Channels individually to get the profile on the CRT monitor. I cannot seem to find these same controls in the iMac G5. Am I just blind...or do they not exist in this computer? Please help! Thank you, Regina
    iMac G5 iSight   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

You do not have individual channel calculation on an LCD at least not with the G-M software (apple's built-in calbrator does a software calibration for individual channels, but you'll still be closer with the Eye-One Match results). Brightness you can set with the slider in display or by using the keyboard controls. Contrast is in universal access, but you should just leave it alone. The default setting is the correct one for beginning a G-M calculation.
EDIT Are you aware that there was an update to the G-M software a couple of weeks ago? You can download it from their website.

  • HP w17e Monitor dims out

I have a HP w17e monitor. When I turn on the monitor it works fine, then after a couple of seconds (about 5-10) it dims out. I can still see the display but it's so dim that it can't be read. Could that be a sign that the monitor itself is messed up; or could it be easily fixed?

    Hi MJ2822,
Welcome to the HP Community! I see that your monitor is having a dimming issue. What do you have the monitor connected to a desktop or a laptop? Is it an HP computer as well? If so can I get your product number? If you are using as an external monitor it could be a power plan issue. What operating system are you using?

  • External monitor dims sporadically

I have my Macbook Pro running clamshelled and connected to a 23" LG monitor via HDMI and always running under AC power. Frequently the external monitor will dim briefly and then return to the normal brightness level. It seems to happen most frequently when navigating web pages.
I did not have this problem earlier with OS 1.8 and a different, but identical, LG monitor, although I usually ran non clamshelled with the laptop monitor on.
    Any ideas?

I did not have this problem earlier with OS 1.8 and a different, but identical, LG monitor, although I usually ran non clamshelled with the laptop monitor on.
    The stop running it closed.
It may be getting too hot and slowing down and dimming to slow heat generation.

  • IMac + iSight = Monitor ?

if we add an iSight camera to an old Goose Neck iMac is there a way to run the combo as a monitor?  We do Santa pictures & are looking for a way for the visitors to be able to see themselves as we are doing the pictures. Am considering the old iMac for this as the Mac Mini is tethered via Aperture to the camera for the actual shooting and the iPad is in use for credit processing. Any suggestions as to what program would be used for the viewing ?

could do what you ask.  However, I don't think your old iMac can really act as a monitor.
    (2) Although not really a "monitor" as I understand the term, ...

  • External Monitor dims as I bring stuff on screen...

My desktop is bight and crisp.
I open my finder and my monitor goes dimmer.
I drag my finder low as to hide it and my desktop it bright and crisp.
I drag the finder back up and my monitor goes dim..... You get the point.
I just moved from a PBg4 and had no problem with the monitor till I bought the macbook.
    Wassup?

This is a monitor based on a CRT, correct? It sounds like the auto beam limiting circuit is triggering. What I don't understand is why it wasn't doing that with the PB G4. Have you gone back and tried the PB again? It could just be coincidence that the monitor started having this problem at the same time you got the MB.

  • Monitor Dim (Suspecting software, Not hardware isssue)

    Hi,
I have two Toshiba laptops (Qosmio X300, Satellite P100) and they are both giving me the same issue: unusually dim screens. I've tried fn buttons and BIOS settings, but none of that seems to affect the screen.
I've done some research on the subject, and many people when they hear unusually dull screen right away believe that it's a broken backlight, but I'll explain why I do not think that that is the case.
I got the Qosmio about two weeks ago, in came installed with Windows Vista 64 bit.
This was not acceptable for my client so I installed windows XP on it instead.
So the thing I want to mention here is that the screen was bright while in Vista, then it was bright for about a week in XP, now it is suddenly dim, and no software seems to be able to adjust it. (I tried the Nvidia settings, Power settings, Bios Settings, FN keys) The hotkey program by toshiba is installed.
My Satellite P100 is also running Windows XP (sp2 or maybe 3) and with that one the issue is very similar. The screen is dull, it used to be bright and no software seems to be able to affect it.
    Here are my serials:
    (satellite)
    pspa3c-jr500e
    (qosmio)
    pqx32c-02k01s

    Hi
What happens if you would go back to the Vista (preinstalled by Toshiba)?
Did you check if the screen brightness would go back to the normal level?
I think you should do this because its really strange issue
I mean the display brightness could be decreased and increased using the FN+F6 or FN+F7 buttons. The display brightness could change also if you would set another value in the Toshiba Power Saver. But as far as I know there are no Win XP drivers for Qosmio X300 and therefore you could not use the Power Saver for display brightness changing.
But there are XP drivers for Satellite P100 so maybe you would be able to use the FN key combination in order to increase the display brightness.

  • Monitor dimming after less than a minute really starting to annoy me...

    Hey!
This is my first post on here... and I'm posting because I've just started getting really fed up with how the display slightly dims after a minute or less of me not typing or moving the cursor... If I need a page open to read, I have to constantly touch the trackpad in order for the light to come on again so I can see what I'm reading...
I have looked ALL OVER the settings, and the only thing I can find to change is how long it takes for the computer to go into sleep mode... and there's is another thing where you can check it to have the display fade before going to sleep.... but even if I uncheck this, then instead of the display fading, it goes completely black after a minute or less...
I just want to adjust the amount of time it takes for the display to dim... Please! Is anyone else annoyed with this? I can't even watch a youtube video without being interrupted about 4 times by the screen fading...
Thank you to anyone that can help me!

  • Viewsonic monitor color doesn't match MacAir

I'm trying to set up the sRGB color space on my ViewSonic monitor to match the sRGB color space on my MacAir, but it's just not working. The brightness on the VS monitor dims when I select sRGB and the Brightness Adjust option grays out so I can select it to increase it. The colors are barely close - what looks reddish brown on my Air looks more yellow-brown on the VS.
I'm a professional photographer. I need for these colors to be accurate. Suggestions?
    Thanks very much,
    Roxyanne Young

    Hello Roxyanne,
The sRGB option on the monitor is a standard default color pallet for the internet. You can calibrate your monitor by going to System Preferences on your MacBook Air.

  • IBook is freezing, help help.

ok, so i have had my ibook for about two years now. i was running 10.3.9 and problem free. i had replaced a logic board a year ago and some bad memory. other than that i am good to go.
about two months ago my ibook started freezing. i didn't get kernel panics telling me to restart. the mouse icon would freeze(the color wheel would stop , or the hand would be stuck as the hand icon) and i could not access my dock. however, with an ethernet cable i was still able to bridge the internet from the ibook to my desktop computer.(which is how i am online right now) it will start up fine and won't freeze if i have it on and run nothing. sometimes it runs for a while without freezing. but then sometimes it freezes right away.
i reinstalled 10.3 hoping a clean install would clear it up, but no such luck. i ran the hardware test also, and everything came out passing. anyone have any suggestions?

also, i would like to note that my iSight still gave out video of me moving around after my desktop had frozen. which i could not really explain? and the monitor dims still and puts up the screen saver, even if it is frozen.
