G5 makes wierd noise

My G5 started making a strange noise about 3 months ago which seems to relate everytime something significant moves on the screen. It is worst whilst the screen saver is on, everytime the image changes the noise happens. The noise only happens whilst something is changing or moving on screen. (It is not one of the 3 noises posted on this site as sound files).
Any help appreciated as my warranty runs out next week.
Dual 1.8 G5, 2.5G ram   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   apple cinema display 20"

My G5 has made a noise when things happen since I got it. Every time I restart the thing (which thankfully in OS X is not often) I have to go into the Processor control panel and turn off processor napping. Otherwise if "napping" is left on, it'll make that weird irritating noise whenever I do anything even moderately intensive.
If you don't have the Processor system preference, you'll have to get it via the CHUD tools from apple downloads. During a couple of system updates, the version I had of Processor was disabled.. so it was a struggle to find the most current version of CHUD tools to get a version of Processor that worked with the OS version. It would be much nicer if Apple just included it in its OS updates.

  • Harddrive makes wierd noises

    Hi y'all
I've got a Pro 2012 "13 for quite awhile now. A few weeks ago my harddrive made some scratching/clicking noises. I wasn't aware really of what it was, but a few days ago it did the same thing. I tried a Apple Diagnostic test, while it was testing it make the same noise.
It's a horrendous noise, sounds like something is eating the aluminium from the inside out...
Are my worst fears coming true and what should i do?
p.s. nothing fishy happend to it, only use it for work.

If has plenty of space, make sure that you have a back, preferably 2, Time machine and a clone. (such as Carbon Copy Cloner, which creates a bootable back up.

You HD should not be making much in the way of sounds, especially if near empty, as it fills it must search more to find things. You should take it for evaluation at an Apple store, or an Authorized Apple Service Provider. They say not if your drive will fail, but when.
This seems to be a mechanical thing, not software

  • HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M177fw makes horrible noise and will not move past initializing

Makes horrible noise and will not move past initializing.

    Hi @HealthITLadyRed,
I read your post and see that the printer is making noise and is stuck initializing. I would really like to be able to help you resolve this issue.
I have provided some steps to try to see if we can resolve this issue.
Check and remove any packaging material inside the printer and toner.
Disconnect the USB/Network/FAX and power the printer on Standalone.
Do a hard reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 60 seconds.
Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector.
This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
If the issue persists, perform a power drain by disconnecting the power cord from the back of the printer and keeping the power button pressed for 30 seconds and in case of a power switch keep the switch in ON position for 30 seconds before reconnecting the power chord.
Update the printer's firmware by a USB connection. Software and Drivers.
Select Option 2 and wait for the page to load and then select the link for firmware. This resolved the previous posters issue.
I can send a private message with another step to try.
In the forum beside your handle name just click on the envelope to view it.
How is the printer connected? (USB/Ethernet/Wireless)
What happened prior to this issue? (paper jam, changed toner) Any feedback would be appreciated.
    Is this a new printer?

If there is anything else I can help you with, just let me know. Thank You.
Please click “Accept as Solution ” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.

My macbook pro is probably only 2 months old and there is a buzzing/grinding noise coming from the left side of the laptop every time I open it.  It may buzz 5 times in a span of 30 seconds then not make the noise the remaining time that it is open.  I have read that it may have to do with my fan or HD.  I am under apple care for a good amount of time but am wondering if this is a mjor issue.  I would not be able to get to an apple care center in the near future due to being at school.  Should I be worried or will it last by the time I am home in 2 months.

Sounds like the disk in your MBP is accessing data on wake up
If you are still concerned you can take it into the Apple Store where they can hear it to be sure

  • When I plug in my iPhone it makes the noise and charges, but wont bring it up in iTunes. It brings up my iPhone in a file under my computer

When i plug in my Iphone it makes the noise and charges, but wont bring it up in itunes. Instead it brings up my iphone in a file under my documents... Any help..??

Syncing shouldn't trouch you photos unless you have photos in a Photo Library album.  These would be photos that were synced to your phone from your computer.  If you do have any, you'll need to use an app like PhotoSync to transfer them to your computer prior to syncing.
If you prefer to backup your camera roll photos prior to syncing, open iTunes and go to Preferences>Devices and check "Prevent...from syncing automatically".  Then connect your phone to your computer and import them as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.
Then, to minimize data loss, follow the steps in this user tip: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141.  To follow the steps, first open iTunes and go to View>Show Sidebar.  Also, Transfer Purchases is now located in File>Devices.

  • My hd makes clicking noises...

I just got the 30GB iPod video yesterday and I noticed at the start and finish of a video, and occasionally while playing music, the HD makes quite obvious clicking noises. The reason I'm worried is because I though HD's only make the noise of starting up, no clicking noises. Is this a problem? And one more question, how do I tell if it is a 5G or a 5.5G? Or are they both the same?

if you bought it yesterday it is almost surely the newer version. one easy way to tell is check if you have the search function. if you do, it's the new version. another way is to cross-check the serial number, but i don't know how to do this. the clicking is normal. it is your hard drive updating temporary memory. it is more prevalent while viewing the videos because they take up so much more data than songs.

  • Disc drive makes strange noises

I just got my macbook and from the very start whenever I insert a disc it makes a noise like its popping and breaking internally. the disc will play fine, but the sound is SO wrong that its worrying me. Has anyone else had this problem? Was it just something wrong with the disc drive?

I think what your hearing is the drive sorting itself out, mine makes quite a racket when you first put a disc in but its fine, i think it is standard across the range. To make sure it would be worth comparing to a friends or listen to one in a shop.
    Cheers.

  • MacBook Pro 13" makes crackling noise

My MB Pro that I got this year just began making a crackling noise last night when I touch the plastic port on the hinges and when I adjust the screen back and forth it makes that noise aswell. I just wanted to know do I need to be worried that it's a major problem or can I look past it? Any damage on my MB Pro in the long run due to the plastic part of the hinge?
    Thank you.

Take advantage of your warranty and have Apple check it.
    Ciao.

  • Ipod HD makes cracking noises when turning..

My HD makes cracking noises when I try to search a song, or photo..
I have him for 3 weeks now, and he didn't do it before. It just sounds like normal hard-drive sounds my old computer makes, but in my opinion it's not normal.
    anyone experience with this?

I had that problem too before.
I waited for 2 days and it stopped.
My friends banged it on the floor and it was perfect (exepet for a small dent.)
