G5 (Model M9032LL/A) AGP 8x Best Card Upgrade?

Hi Everyone. I have been searching the net for this information but i have come across some confusing things...
My Mac G5 that i just aquired has an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro (64 Meg) AGP. Its showing its age and i want to get something better.
I have gone on ebay and looked at the x800, x850, and 7800 GS but all of them are SO expensive compared to their PC Counterparts and i really dont want to go about the "Flashing" Route, as i have the 23" Cinema Display w/ the ADP Port and i would like to keep it that way if i can...
Now I have come across some newer cards but can find no information on them...
The Radeon 2300 HD AGP.. Will it work? What about the X1950 AGP?
I cant envision myself spending $250 plus for a card that is SO old... My Win Vista machine has 2x GeForce 280 GTX SLI, and those were $799 a peice when i got them (Luckily I didnt have to pay for them, benefits of work)...
I appreciate all responses and help.
Thank you.

Hi-
Welcome to Discussions!
Sorry, but I have to give you the harsh realities of Mac graphics.....
OK, first, you'll have to get over the PC vs Mac price differential.
No one currently makes any new AGP cards that are PPC Mac compatible, and used OEM cards or flashed PC cards are all there is.
Because of this, it is a sellers market. Always has been, though, for Mac graphics cards.......
I don't like it, no one else does, but it is what it is......
If you want ADC, you are stuck with finding an OEM Mac 9800 (Pro, XT, SE) or OEM Mac X800XT (X850XT are rare as Dodo eggs) to get performance beyond the 9600 that you have.
You will need to search eBay and online Mac specialty stores, with eBay having the best potential for a "reasonable" price.
If you can see your way to a DVI to ADC adapter, don't fool around, just get a flashed Geforce 7800 GS.
That is the top option for performance in an AGP Mac.
Otherwise, the Radeon X800XT or Geforce 6800 Ultra are the best OEM cards
Radeon 2300 HD, X1950, etc, are not available for AGP PPC Macs.

  • PM G4 (AGP Graphics) - Best Graphics card Upgrade?

    Hi all,
I have a PM G4 (AGP Graphics) and would like to upgrade the graphics card. Can anyone suggest the best option? I am currently looking at ATI Radeon 9200 Pro 128MB or nVidia gForce 7800 256MB.
One of the parameters for the choice, besides price and performance, is how silent is the card.
Thank you for any insight you can share.

    Hi-
AGP Graphics, the Sawtooth and Gigabit Ethernet, are both 2x AGP machines.
The best card for either is a Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Edition.
The Radeon 9200 is a low performance card.
The Geforce 7800 GS is not compatible with 2x AGP machines, but may be used in the Digital Audio, Quicksilver and MDD machines.

Any card with a fan will make some additional noise.
Cards without fans, though, are usually low performance.
Third party coolers can greatly reduce noise.

  • AGP Graphics card upgrades

Which Nvidia and ATI cards are worth upgrading to??

    Hi-
    OK-
    4x AGP cards...
ATI is typically regarded as a good performance choice, because of the drivers and the architecture of their cards.
Turns out, that ATI is the only one producing a performance upgrade for 2x/4x AGP Macs. That card is the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Edition.
The 9800 is a very strong card, and will perk up graphics, be compatible in all your OS versions, and give Core Image support for Tiger.
The 9800 Pro is also available in a flashed version on eBay, or you can flash your own if your up to it. A ready flashed card is less than half the cost of a real Mac version, and performs identically.
As far as Geforce cards go, I think one of the best cards is a flashed (converted PC card) Geforce 6800 GT or Ultra.
There is a faster Geforce 7800 GS which also supports Core Image, but as far as price vs. performance, I think the 6800 is plenty in a DA. I have two 6800 GT's, one in each of two Quicksilver machines. The 6800 GT is a bit stronger than the 9800, and supports Core Image in Tiger and Leopard. Panther is also supported in 10.3.5 and later.
In the 4x AGP DA, either the 9800 Pro or the 6800 GT will be a great upgrade.
The MDD would possibly benefit more from the 7800 GS, but either the 9800 or the 6800 would also be good. The 7800 is also only supported after 10.4.6.
With the MDD, though, heat is an issue. All the cards run hot, being performance cards, but the 7800 GS chip is the coolest of the three.
With the 9800, one thing that should be done, is to replace the OEM cooler with an aftermarket cooler. In the DA, this isn't much of a problem, as long as the PCI slot next to the AGP slot is left open. In the MDD, the aftermarket cooler choices for the 9800 are limited, as the memory is next to the AGP slot, making space limited.
The OEM coolers of the Geforce cards are, typically, more than adequate, but, of course, there are also third party coolers available to increase cooling of the cards.
The linked Geforce cards are all the BFG versions, which are the most desirable of the Geforce clones, and more so than the Nvidia reference card.

  • Power Mac G5 Dual 2.0 GHz Model #M9032LL/A - Is it usable?

I have a lead on a used Power Mac G5 Dual Processor, Model #M9032LL/A. I'm trying to determine if these models were any good - any known issues, any recurring problems? I know that it's not liquid cooled - any problems with overheating? I believe this is one of the earlier G5s, manufactured in June 2003. This one comes with 2.5GBs of memory and the price seems fair. It will be used as my son's primary computer - he does music as well as the normal high school work. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I use this same machine at work. Bought it when it first came out in 2004. This baby is a work horse, used for a minimum of 8 hrs. a day since I got it and not one problem. Its also easy and cheap to upgrade (RAM, Graphics, HD and Optical, if needed). We can easily afford to replace it with a new Intel machine but we choose not to because of this machines speed and stability. If the price is right, do it.

Based on the information that you have supplied, you have a Early or Late 2008 MBP.  Maximum RAM that it will accept is 6 GB with the following specifications:   200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM.
The best sources for Mac compatible RAM are OWC and Crucial.

  • DKA790GX Platinum - What's the best card that will work with hybrid crossfire?

Hi everyone. I know this board is a bit old now but I've set it up for my kids to play oldish games and it occurred to me that video cards from that era might be inexpensive these days. What's the best possible card to use with the on-board card for its hybrid crossfire? Would it be better to just get a separate standalone card? If so what's the best that will work with this board? I'm completely out of the loop these days on tech and have no idea what will even be compatible anymore.

Good news! I resolved my graphics issues without buying a new card. It all came down to a little logic. It used to work just fine. The game it's installed off the same disc as before, and there us no noticeable change in the install media. The hardware has not changed unless there has been some sort of electrical damage I cannot see. I had however updated my drivers many times over the last few years, and always from the AMD website.
I installed the latest MSI drivers for my onboard graphics and voila, it works!
All graphical glitches are now gone, though it runs a but slower.
I may still buy a new card. I'm favouring the HD4870x2 as the top of my motherboard's era or the slightly newer HD5770 which some reviews say is equivalent in performance. The latter uses the same GPU and shaders as the 6770 and is considerably cheaper.
If I go with NVidia it seems the best card in my price range is the 440GT.
Thanks, everyone, for all the advice!
i'd say the 790GX chipset would run a saphire radeon HD5770 card fine i have 1 of them on a different maufactures board that uses the AMD 690GX chipset and i have put both my HD5770's in that with crossfire on and had no issues at all just to try it out!
and the AMD 690GX is a lower more old chipset then the one your board has so i wouldnt see any issues with the board not accepting the HD 5770 cards at all!
i like the saphire branded ones better as they run much cooler and quieter then a stock card!

That is not correct. Apple really doesn't build any parts. They are all made by some other manufacturer and then installed in Mac computers as Add-on cards or soldered onto the motherboard, Apple Speak Logic board, before it is installed in the computer.
As to the WiFi card Broadcom makes most of the chips and they are then soldered onto a Duaghter card that is then inserted in a socket. The socket for the WiFi card is near the back of the system just behind the Superdrive. That is on the standard MBP. On the Retina models I'm not sure where it is placed.

As far as I know, Apple only uses their own AirPort 'cards' (they aren't really cards anymore, but integrated chips). So the manufacturer is Apple, and the model is just AirPort.
Technically, you are correct. The original manufacturer is Broadcom, but all the WiFi chips Apple is using are rebranded as Apple, Inc. AirPort Extreme.

  • GeForce 7800 GTX... the best card for a PCIe G5 Power Mac?

I have started out on the rocky road to upgrade the graphics card on my Power Mac G5 Quad 2.5GHz running Mac OS X 10.5.8. The standard card, a GeForce 6600, does not do justice to this wonderful computer, and struggles with any serious video work.
The first step is easy – deciding on the best card. A little Googling shows that the GeForce 7800 GTX wins hands down over the competition.
The next needs patience – these cards appear from time to time on eBay; I will need a 512 MB PCI-e version (not 256 MB) as I am running 10.5.
I've waited a month or two, put in a winning bid and the card has arrived. Now all I need is the code to flash the ROM to make it work in myG5. Not so fast! I'll need a 128kb ROM chip! The idea of using a soldering iron terrifies me, so I'll have to find someone, who does this sort of thing for a living, to remove the 64kb ROM from my 7800 GTX and solder on a 128kb ROM.
But what's is the right spec/manufacturer/supplier for the 128 kb ROM?
If I am lucky my friend with the soldering iron may know. If not, I'm stuck. I've not been able to find this information anywhere on the Internet.
Now all I need is the right code for the ROM. It seems that there are two versions that people have used: one, which seems quite common, is lightly edited Quadro FX 4500 ROM code which does not use the full power of the 7800 GTX, which after flashing reports itself as a FX 4500; the other, which seems to be as rare as gold dust, has been fine-tuned to use the 7800 GTXs full potential. Cards flashed with this version report correctly as 7800 GTX. I really want this optimised code, but neither version is available from any of the usual places.
    Can anyone please help?

Many thanks to japamac, who kindly sent me an e-mail which put me on the right track re finding the ROM code, editing it and flashing.
I also now know that I no longer have to worry about soldering ROM chips. Yippee! The 7800 GTX code has been 'shrunk' to fit on a 64kb ROM.

  • What is this Hour Glass Model and what is the best order of dimensions

What is this Hour Glass Model and what is the best order of dimensions in Essbase cube (Block storage model)

Dimension order has a huge impact on performance.. The worst case I ever saw was in a pre-sales situation where an outline was thrown together very quickly by someone not experienced with Essbase. A rather small retrieval took 3 minutes despite the fact that there was absolutely no data in the database! Rearranging the dimensions made retrievals instantaneous..

  • How do i pick the best card

I'm using an hp Pavillion a6720y, with 300w/19A output on the power supply, and an NVIDIA GeForce 9100 card (the one that came built in) and my games run a little choppy even on the lowest settings, and I'm getting fed up with it.
How do I pick the best graphics card my system can handle?

The EVGA NVIDIA 240 GT 1GB DDR5 is th best card that you can use without replacing the 300 watt power supply.
Review the ATI and NVIDIA performance specifications. Look at the memory bandwidth specifications and the DirectX level support.
How to replace a power supply.
How to replace a video card.
You should open up your PC and measure the physical dimensions of your power supply.  Here is a list of things to consider:
    Specifications
    Total wattage - important
12+ volt amperage rating - important
Modular - not mandatory but I like the flexibility
    Warranty
    i7 and SLI ready
    Efficiency rating
    Cost
Physical size -- standard ATX PSU is 5.5" by 5.9" by 3.4" give or take a few tenths

Does Ipad-2 wifi  model no MC769LL/A Support Sim card ?

No, none of the wifi-only iPads can have a sim card inserted. If you have an iPhone then (if your carrier supports it) then you use that as a personal hotspot for the iPad, or you could get a mifi device and use that as a mobile hotspot for it.

My question is my Corsair has only one 12v rail at 60 amps. The MSI says it requires two. I don't think my powersupply would be able to handle this card?
That refers to 2 PCIe 6 pin power connectors not +12V rails on the PSU.
