G5 Monitors Prefs

Hi, I am running a 2.5 GHZ G5, with one older Apple Monitor and one LG 'Studioworks 995E' monitor. I know I did something wrong, but can't figure out to fix it! I have all of the adapters needed, and I know this configuration physically works because it does when booted from another drive.
Here's the issue...
One monitor will not display a screen - it doesn't seem to matter which way I plug them in - one monitor displays about half a desktop and the other stays blank.
I have already reset the PRAM and the SMU to no avail.
I feel this is a preference problem, but don't know which prefs to dump.
Help!

Perhaps try running Preferential Treatment to see if it will find the corrupt .plist file.

  • LCD 26" monitor prefs

Hope I'm at least close to the right forum for this question...
I need a new lcd monitor (now have a LaCie electron 22blue crt and Spyder2pro) for my Mac G5 OSX 10.5 setup with PS CS4. For semi-serious, but non-commercial, PS work. Looking at 1) LaCie 526 with A-TW and AS-IPS panel, 2) NEC 2690WUXI with A-TW and 3) the newer NEC 2690 WUXI2 without A-TW. The LaCie and NEC use the same panel.
Apparently, blacks are not so hot without the A-TW polarizer, especially if the screen is viewed at an angle (per some You Tube examples).
Question #1: Does this matter if one always views the screen head-on? NEC's faq website implies that the lack of A-TW on the WUXI2 doesn't really reduce overall color quality.
Question #2: LaCie offers the Blue Eye Pro system with its product. NEC's package is Spectraview software and x-rite eye one display v2. Is either one of these color management systems appreciably better than the other--or easier to master?
Thank you for any suggestions! Jack

  • Want to use a TV as a third monitor for Digital Cinema Display....HELP!

    Hey Guys,
Here's my set up, please tell me where I am going wrong:
I have 2 22" LCD Monitors that I use for my main work. I added a second card to my MacPro so that I could add an additional monitor. Now I have a DVI to HDMI cable going to my Plasma that I want to use as playback for clients and such. Here's where it gets weird... In After Effects, I can use the Plasma in Digital Cinema Preview for Playback and Previews...works great. Then, when I open up Final Cut I have problems. First, when I go to "Digital Cinema Desktop - Full Screen" it display one frame and stay on that one frame even during playback. So then I changed my Sequence settings thinking my TV couldn't handle that Sequence. No I get a White Screen with no playback at all, not even the one frame. Now the weird part is that if I change the TV to my "Main Screen" in Monitor Prefs, and set Digital Cinema to "Main" it plays back fine. So, if I can playback with it as my main, why can't I playback otherwise? And...if it works in After Effects, why is Final Cut Having Problems with it? It's set to "All Frames" and "Desktop Mirroring". Thoughts? I have seen this set up work before...what am I doing wrong?

I'm trying to find out much the same thing. I would assume that anyone knows the answers can help both of us.
I'm purchasing a new Mac Pro desktop. I also use final cut but not after effects.
I actually have 4 monitors to choose from. 2 Dell 19" - One 27" Apple cinema display and a spector High Def 1080i monitor that has a DVI input.
I would like to use one of the Dell's as my primary home desk top monitors with folders and all the usual dock and stuff. I would like to use the cinema display as my primary final cut work surface.
I would like to use the HD monitor to show HD footage and use it as a client monitor. Remember it has a DVI input.
I've talked with the folks at the Local Apple store and they are not sure if I will get a real HD signal on the HD monitor if I add a second radeon 2700 card to the computer and take on of those DVI outputs and attach it to the HD monitor.
If thats not possible can I use the apple cinema display as my playback monitor?
Or do I have to go with a conversion box like a mxo, AJA board, or decklink box.
The goal is to have two monitors for the program and One monitor in HD for the client monitor,
    Thanks everyone in advance.

  • Dual Display, 2 Monitors - Extended Desktop

    Hello Everyone:
There isn't a clear cut answer or solution in connected a Macbook Air to 2 external monitors in an attempt to create an extended desktop. I have read older posts that it's either doable or not doable. My questions are the following:
-Is it possible to connect a new Macbook Air to 2 external monitors for extended desktop purposes?
-Some users have reported lag issues (mouse dragging , delays, etc.). Will this happen for sure with a Macbook Air or is it a monitor issue?
-What's the best non-Apple monitor brand that would work best with a Macbook Air for dual display purposes? I've read that Dells have a problem in this regard.
-What would be the advantage or disadvantage of using a dock station in setting up a dual display environment? Would this add to the lag, latency factor?
I'm thinking of investing in a new Macbook Air, but I want to make sure I dont end up with silly issues - such as latency, monitors, etc.
Thank you for all your help and advise.
    Best,
    G.

Yes, extended desktop works with monitors set to differant resoultions. the Monitors pref pane allows you to select relative arrangements and rez of all monitors composing the extended desktop.
    personally I run a dell CRT at 2304 X 1728 @ 60Hz along with an NEC 6FG a 2048 X 1280 @ 60Hz off a radeon 9800pro on an MDD.

  • Full-screen view -- how to switch back to main monitor

I'm sure I'm missing something very obvious here... but somehow I accidentally switched which screen the full-screen view is on (I think by hitting option-s while in full-screen?) - and now I cannot get it back to my external monitor from my small laptop screen.
I've tried switching settings in Viewer Mode, Toggle Primary, view options, etc. -- and notghint will get it back to the large monitor...
    Help!!
    Thanks

Thanks for getting back. It's not the system monitor prefs either -- the menu bar has always been on the external monitor. (Just to make sure, I did switch the menu bar back & forth in system prefs, just to see if it fixed it -- it didn't) Literally, nothing changed in aperture or in my system --- fullscreen has always been on the external monitor for months -- then while viewing in full-screen, the fullscreen image suddenly popped over to the laptop screen. Now fullscreen images only show on the laptop. It's quite frustrating -- I think I might have stumbled on a bug.

  • Low resolution when hooking monitor up to MacBookAir

I purchased an HP ZR2740w monitor around a year ago and have been using it with my circa 2007 powermac which has a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT card with 250mb of VRAM without difficulties at full resolution (2560 x1440). Well... I bought a 2012 mac mini (the latest) AND a brand new macbook air (2013) and using either the HDMI-DVI or the Displayport-DVI on the mini or the displayport to DVI on the macbook air the highest resolution I can get is 1280 x 720. When I go to monitor prefs there are only two options 1280 x 720 and 800 x 600. HP says it is not their monitor and I have discussed with Apple tech support and they are supposed to get back with me within 4 days. With them I reset the PRAM (or whatever its called nowadays). I find it interesting that this behavior is occuring with both the new Air and the mini. Any ideas?
BTW I have a 23" cinema display that is working fine with both. (1920x1200).
    Thanks,

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
How are you going about uploading?
Are you digging the files out of the DATA folder in the iPhoto Library Folder? If so, you're using the thumbnails that iPhoto uses for display purposes.
There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
I suggest you use the File -> Export option and export the pics to the desktop. There iPhoto will make a copy. Upload that, and when the upload is finished you can trash the copy on the desktop - your original is safe in iPhoto.

  • ATI drivers: Now 2 monitors show up...

I must have done something in the ATI Radeon application / pref pane.
Now, the system prefs show two side-by-side monitors, and one of them is apparently a TV.
    I have a Cinema Display 23".
I see in the monitors prefs that there are two monitors.
One is apparently a "virtual" TV monitor, as I only have one monitor really connected.
Anyone know of a way in which to get back to "normal"?

found an answer my own self....
went into the ati control panel, and did a bunch of confusing things, including opening the monitor in TV mode, and unchecking some stuff....
    Resolved.

  • Connecting Macbook to Toshiba 32XV555DB

I have connected my Macbook via a mini DVI to DVI and then a DVI to HDMI
What settings should I have on the TV to be able to view my Mac.
All I have is a blank screen
In my monitor prefs the the Macbook recognises the Toshiba is connected and shows it in its list.
Some people talk about having the Macbook closed!!
    Please Help

I'm having the same problem with the 42" version of the same tv (which I've posted a question about elsewhere here). I used to use my MacBook with my old Sharp HDTV (Mini-DVI to DVI adapter, connected to a DVI to HDMI cable) and it worked brilliantly. I plugged it in and it just worked. I never even had to mess about with settings. However, when I plugged my MacBook into the Toshiba all I get is a blue screen. My Mac can see the TV and allows me to select resolutions etc (none of which produce a picture on the tv) and even SwitchResX sees the telly. The Toshiba manual explicitly says that the tv supports computers connected by HDMI and gives a list of resolutions that it supports via HDMI, including the horizontal, vertical and pixel clock frequencies for each.
My assumption is that the resolutions pumped out by the MacBook's video card don't pass muster with the Toshiba but I simply don't know enough about what I'm doing to use SwitchResX to set up custom resolutions in accordance with the Toshiba manual. Too many details about front porches and so on...
As of yet, no one has replied to my other post - I'll be keeping an eye out here for responses!

  • Problem trying to stereo record

In spite of track being armed, double-circle for stereo, software monitoring pref selected, my live instrument (Native American woodwind flute) will only either monitor or record in one of the two stereo channels as displayed in the Track Mixer. Input 1-2 and Output 1-2 are selected.
Also actual recording results in a 'mono' one-sided wave form.
I am recording into LE7.1 via an M-Audio Ozone Instrument In.
    Any help/suggestions would be appreciated....Thanks.

Hi Phil....Yes, I'm recording using either a small condenser instrument mounted 'bug' mic or LD condenser mic - both being mono. Following your post I have now changed I/O from Input 1-2 to Input 1 and the levels are displaying as two parallel bars rather than one....The sound being through both headphone speakers now.
As it's late I'll record in the morning. I'll also email you re seminars later tomorrow....Thanks!

  • Samsung p2270 scrolling and window lag

I have a new 2.8ghz xenon Mac Pro with 6 GB of ram. It's attached to a Samsung P2770HD monitor via a DVI cable.
When I scroll a window in Safari, or drag any window, or even when a new window is opening, it is extremely laggy and redraws the window very slowly. I've tried adjusting all of the monitor settings with no success. I have no options to change in the monitor prefs.
    Any advice??

I'm using the same monitor on a macpro with the ATI HD 5770 card. I don't have a problem with moving windows but when I set my resolution to 1920x1080 the image goes off the screen. I can't see any of my icons on the far right or left. Do you have that issue?

  • Mac Book pro 13 A1278 late 2009 boot but no screen

Mac Book Pro 13 late 2009, boot on 10.5.8 fine but there is no screen light, just black, webcam work fine. When I plung a external screen it is working fine, i have the desktop and so.
Why ? I pulled off the motherboard after a water (tap) splash. At this time the key board was crazy. I unplunged the video cable of course. I cleaned and reinstalled every thing. So now the Key board works fine except for two keys at left hand ; ALT AND CTRL but no screen. The water came directly on the video cable area and the cable have a fiber cover. I cleaned with contact cleaner. But nothing to do. Curiusly the monitor Pref seems detect the computer screen because it is list in the menu Icon on the finder.
I looked on internet It seems to by a lot of video cable to sell. It is because there are fragile ?

Either you display or the connection to the display is damaged.  For a definitive assessment, take it to an Apple store genius bar for a free evaluation.
    Ciao.

  • Double Vision after updating to 10.4.6

After upgrading to 10.4.6 I am getting a screen that has "double vision" ... as soon as the loading Screen with the blue bar comes up, and it remains this way. If I reset the Pram at startup, this problem does not happen. This is a new issue after installing the combo update going from 10.4 to 10.4.6. Any Help would be nice.... come on Apple.

Thanks for the help Vipir, I tried your suggestion, but the monitor prefs have not changed since the previous versions were installed. After the same thing happened everytime I booted into 10.4.6 I decided to boot into 9.2.2 and see if the same result occured, and as I thought, it was an MacOS X issue.
When I booted into 9.2.2 though I was prompted with the software updates for 9, and one of these updates was for the Geforce Video Bios. The video card must not have had the updates installed , and Mac OS X was assuming the the card was up to date, and this must have been the cause; it has been flawless ever since.
Thank you again Vipir for your help.

  • Hey Admin(Karl) Still have brightness control problem w/dual ACDs on G5

Can someone on the administrator or tech 3 or 4 guru level from Apple Please tell me what I need to do to access the brightness controls of my two previous generation "clear with/ white frame" apple 23" cinema displays ? I posted here two weeks ago - had no responses.
Went to AppleCare via phone for an hour - Indian person trying to help said it is available in the monitors prefs tabs/and monitor pull down menu on the menu bar next to the time ( nothing but resolution/arrangement/color profile there ).
I have since re-installed 10.4 from the original disks AND upgraded to 10.4.3 - Hoping that something would change. Nothing did.
Nothing shows up on screen when pushing the brightness buttonon either monitor, OR when I go to the monitors control panel - no brightness slider or tab on top.
It is driving me crazy to have to review my work ( digital photography ) on my old G4 system to be able to judge the proper density of the images.
I can profile the pair with a Spyder2 calibrater, and load the profiles fine, but again brightness is the issue, not the color. One of the displays is about 30% brighter than the other, and there in lies my problem.
Since the same difference in the screens is the same across various applications ( Final Cut Pro / Adobe PS / DVD player ), can I assume that this is a system issue software issue ?
Am I the only one having this problem ? Or is there just a glitch that no one has managed to tackle and fix even this far into Tiger ?
Please someone reply and save my sanity !
    Mel
NEW Powermac G5 2.3 w/ dual port stock video card   Mac OS X (10.4)

    Hi Mel,
Sorry to hear that you are having problems.
I feel I have to point out that most of the 3 or 4 level Gurus don't actually work for Mac. We tend to obtain our knowledge from our own experiences plus sharing other peoples' experiences in this forum.
The reason I haven't responded to your issue myself is because I have no first hand experience of your problem, and I haven't been able to find anybody else who has had this problem and has been able to fix it. I'm always reluctant to respond unless I feel I have some information that will really help (or, at least, not possibly make things worse).
Anecdotally, this issue appears to have surfaced with the release of Tiger, so it may well be a software issue.
I don't know how old your G5 is - will it function with Panther? If that is the case, then installing Panther on another drive or partition (i.e. keep Tiger for now), and then booting up with Panther may give you an interim solution while the issue (hopefully) gets resolved in Tiger.
The fact that the brightness options are not available probably means that the drivers bundled with the Tiger installation for the graphics card that is in your G5 do not support the displays you are using properly. I believe that the stock video card you are using is an ATI card (you might want to check this via system profiler). At this stage, it would certainly be worth your while to contact ATI support and see whether they have drivers available that will assist you. This link may help get you started:
    http://www.ati.com/products/mac.html
I acknowledge that I haven't really given you a solution, and I apologize for that. Hopefully, what I have given you will give your quest some direction.
Please let us know how you fared. All the best.
    Cheers!
    Karl

  • Blank Canvas Problem - Newbie

    Just started using Motion today.
When I start a Tutorial, Template or even a blank file the canvas stays white and won't display anything.
If I set the video output to my second monitor the project plays back perfectly but still nothing on the canvas.
I've reinstalled but it still doesn't work.
I've been through al the prefs etc. and nothing seems to be out of place.
    Any help appreciated.

I solved this through discussion with phone support.
I swapped my two 30" monitors about.
I connected my primary monitor to the second 7300 card.
I then swapped the 'virtual layout' in monitor prefs so that even if the monitor was connected to card 2 it was set in software to be my primary monitor.
    This solved the problem !!

You probably figured this out months ago, but I just had the same problem.
    Here's how I fixed it:
    1. Close JDeveloper.
    2. Look for a preferences.xml file that contains the string "PacketMonitorPreferences".
    I found it in J:\jdev10.1.3\jdev\system\oracle.j2ee.10.1.3.36.73.
    3. Search for "PacketMonitorPreferences".
    4. Remove the whole item that contains it. Mine looked like
       <Item>
          <Key>packet-monitor-prefs</Key>
          <Value class="oracle.jdevimpl.webservices.tcpmonitor.preferences.PacketMonitorPreferences">
             <packetMonitorOptions class="java.util.ArrayList"/>
          </Value>
</Item>5. Save the file and re-start JDeveloper. It should be OK now.
