G5 Quad - No Airport Reception After Upgrade - Software Issue

Hi,
I've just installed a 'wireless upgrade kit' in my quad (yes, I know it says AASP install only but I did in anyway). Bluetooth is working fine but airport gives me no reception at all.
Now, after some poking around I became pretty convinced this was a software issue. The system I'm running on the quad has been cloned from that on my old DP 2.5 ghz G5. I tried a fresh install on an external disc from the install discs that came with the quad and, lo and behold, airport works like a dream!!
So my question is - is there any way to migrate whatever extensions (or whatever) I need from the 'clean' system to my 'cloned' system so I don't have to start everything from scratch? I've tried an 'archive and install' but still no reception after that so I guess whatever I need must be in one of the folders that was archived...
What software bits and bobs does airport require to work?
Can anyone help me out here?
cheers

I never found a solution to this. Just had to reinstall everything from the discs that came with the Quad. Annoying.
But no airport reception can definitely be down to software!!

After upgrading software microphone doesn't work

Have you tried using the microphone with more than one App?  One I use is Skype, which is a free App.  Once your are registered with Skype, you can use their test server to record and playback several seconds of your audio.
It may just be coincidence that your microphone stopped working after the upgrade.  If you show it to an Apple Store Genius, you may get a new iPad.  If that is not convenient, search for an Authorized Apple Repair Center near you.  There may be one in your city.
One thing you can try is to reset (reboot) the iPad.  Hold both the Home and Sleep buttons for several seconds until the Apple logo appears.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" arrow.  The iPad will restart after a couple of minutes.  Resetting this way will not hurt anything, and sometimes clears up mysterious problems.

  • Can't use Airport Express after upgrading to Leopard

I use Airport Express for wireless printing and AirTunes via powered speakers/hifi. It was working very reliably until I upgraded to Leopard. Now, I am unable to use Airport Express. I get the blinking orange light, but when I scan with Airport Utility, Airport Express is not detected. Manual setup is grayed out, so I can't set it up at all. I am using Airport Utility Version 5.2.2 (522.3), and there does not seem to be any updates or patches to apply at the moment. I have tried on my iMac G5 and MacBook, with the same result on both computers.
I am also reading that many others are having problems with Airport Express after upgrading to Leopard, perhaps not with my specific hardware configuration, but this is very disappointing.
I am open to suggestions to try a few things to get it working, so any help is appreciated.

From the Mail menu, select "Preferences". Hit the Accounts tab. Select the Account. Under Account Information, reapply the user name and password.
Check with the provider if the account needs authentication. This is in the Advanced tab. Usually just a repeat of user name and password.

Sounds like you have a battry issue but don't want to believe it.
If a car was running fine on one tank of gas, then you filled it up with another tank of gas and it began to run funny, one might suspect that tank of gas. But let's just say coincidence blew a valve-- would you think the new tank of gas was the culprit?
BUT WAIT!! It just might have been! The gas could have been of higher octane and put more more strain on the valves; you know, like going from 87 octane (OS6) to 93 octane (OS7) and showing you the engine was on the edge of compromise.
Sometimes you have to go with common sense. If everything else is ruled out, it must be the battery. And if it runs fine one moment in OS6 but immediately ***** in OS7, I'd believe my battery was suspect-- though comfy-- in OS6 but the OS7 showed its true power.
Moreover, if you had the answer-- or didn't want to believe someone's more competent advice-- why did you even call?  You've already shown that you don't know much when you asked if you could go backwards after setting up the new OS as a new phone.
Additonally, if you're such the know-it-all, but yourself the $29 battery and put it in yourself. It's a piece of cake.

  • What can I do to restore good wifi reception after upgrading Snow Leopard

My situation is similar to what is described by others, but different enough that I thought starting a new thread might help.  I upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard (10.6.3) in January.  All was good.  As new upgrades came out I conscientiously updated my software.  Then about 4-6 weeks ago I noticed that I could not get wireless in some areas of my house, further from my router, where I used to able to get fine reception, and where other computers in the house still worked fine.  The other computers are a MacBook Pro (running 10.6.8 but now just updated to Lion) and an iBook G4 (10.4.11).  I also noticed that when I streamed video it was choppy, even if I used an ethernet cable.
I decided to reinstall from the CD (10.6.3) and that worked; all internet was back to normal.  Then I updated to 10.6.8.  Problem came back immediately. Reinstalled 10.6.3 and all was normal.  Upgraded to 10.6.4 still normal.  Updated to 10.6.5 problem back.  Went back to 10.6.3 and back to normal.
I have tried repairing permissions and some of the other suggestions I have found here, but nothing works.  The only way to get decent wifi reception throughout my house is to go back to the CD and reinstall.   I see lots of people saying that after upgrading to later versions of Snow Leopard they lose wireless, but no one says they just lose wireless at greater distances from the router.  I am using a Westell 327W ADSL modem router (802.11g) and I am connecting to the internet on Verizon DSL.
I would like to upgrade to Lion but I heard that this does not help with the Wifi issues others have reported, so would like to get this sorted out before upgrading.
    Please help.

The solution given by Tenortim fixed my problem.  Thank you Tenortim

It is a little difficult.  You have to be able to use Terminal to do step 3.  Fortunately, my son was able to explain some of the details.  The rest is straightforward.
I wish Apple would not include the new firmware without making sure it worked.  I suppose if I upgrade to Lion, which I would like to do, I will have to go through the process again.  For now I will stick with 10.6.8 and the Airport driver from 10.6.4, since that is working great.

  • Authorization problems after upgrading software

I seem to have some sort of mismatch between the iPod and iTunes with respect to computer authorization. And when I try to authorize this computer, a messags states that this computer is already authorized.
Background: My young son connected our iPod to his computer, where (I think) there is no authorization. Next time I tried to sync it on my own computer, iTunes displayed a message that the iPod was corrupt and I should try to restore it. When I tried that, I got a message, "The iPod ... could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1415)."
Instructions on this website said I should try upgrading iTunes and rebooting, then try restoring again. I did so, with the result that I got the same error message except with error number 1418.
Other instructions said to make sure the iPod was fully charged. So I charged it overnight and, weirdly, now it seems to be fine. (I didn't even have to "restore" it.)
Except now every time I try to sync, I get this message: "This computer is no longer authorized to play purchased items that are on the iPod ... Would you like to authorize this computer for items purchased from the iTunes store? ..." So I click Authorize and apparently succeed.
But then I got another message, saying that a specific song (purchased yesterday) "was not copied to the iPod ... because you are not authorized to play it on this computer." DOH!
So I go back to iTunes and select Store -> Authorize Computer. But it says this computer is already authorized (which of course it was). But I still can't sync that new song with the iPod mini.
So, as I said, there seems to be some sort of mismatch between the iPod and iTunes with respect to which computer is authorized. Yet when I try to authorize this computer via the iPod message and via Store -> Authorize Computer, both say that this computer is already authorized. Infuriating.
    Any suggestions? Please?

I had a similar problem with iTunes when I upgraded to the new 7.5 version. I didn't upgrade my system software or hardware, but I found the Article: 306424 helpful. My problem was with some music that I had purchased with an older Apple ID. I went to the Apple "password recovery" webpage to reset my password for the songs that wouldn't play using the old ID. It worked fine.
If it is any consolation, I am an experienced Mac technician and I am very religious about maintaining my system so that upgrades and updates to software go well. I'm not saying that you haven't maintained your system, but you may want to "repair permissions" using disk utility. I find this step very important to do before and after any software installation or upgrade. I hope this reply helps in some way and best wishes on solving your particular issue.

  • The location services on my MacPro don't work after upgrading software

AFter upgrading to OSX 10.9.5 on my MacbookPro from 2013, I cannot make Location services work. It's turned on in "Settings>Security &Privacy enabeling Maps, Calendar, Safari and Evernote. what can I do?

    You can try the following:
1 Udate all the applications on the app store
2 Creat a backup and do a restore
3 figure it out which applications are failing, by removing them and reinstalling them they should work again
Probably the most secure woudl be #2
    Good luck!

  • Really bad wifi reception after upgrade to 10.6.7

    Hey.
to make a long story short - after installing 10.6.0 on a MacBook2,1 (i think "mid-2007") everything's ok - but if i upgrade to 10.6.7 (either with built-in software-update or downloaded combo-update) the WiFi reception is really bad. in numbers -50dBm with 10.6.0 vs. -82dBm runnin 10.6.7 (everything on a clean system and exact the same location in the room) i tried it with two different networks both Linksys WRT54 routers running dd-wrt and openwrt.
    i don't know what i can do -.-

I don't know for sure that it will help but it won't hurt to reset the SMC.
    Shut down the computer.
Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
    Remove the battery.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.

  • Brand new IPOD Touch Apps no longer work after upgrading software

I got a Ipod touch for my wife Today at Wal-Mart. I brought it home, connected to wifi and downloaded some apps and also payed for some. They all worked fine. Then I connected to computer to transfer songs. It told me to upgrade the Ipod software so i Did. After it restarted none of the downloaded apps work anymore. I have read MANY MANY MANY discussions on this and there is no fix. I am not wiping out all the songs and reload everything all over again. It will take forever. My wifes BD is Friday and this is making me so mad after I just dropped $300 on this thing. APPLE!!! Where is the fix? I deleted the apps and reinstalled they still don't work. Anybody got this figured out? I am getting ready to get my money back and tell everyone to avoid buying ipod until they get this upgrade bug fixed.
Message was edited by: 2009 IPOD TOUCH

I have the same problem. Brand new two days ago. I synched the touch with Itunes but wasn't hooked up to the internet at the time so didn't do the software upgrade right away. Then I downloaded about a dozen apps (free and paid) with wifi directly to the touch. They all worked fine. Then I plugged it back in to Itunes and had it upgrade it to 3.1.2. It locked up Itunes several times since then and the downloaded apps no longer work (they start to open then disappear).
The problem is, no one is listening to this problem (including Anna above)! Everyone says "just do a hard reboot, or restore to factory settings, reload the apps, etc." I've tried all the standard troubleshooting but none of it fixes this. It sure seems to me this is a problem with 3.1.2 but Apple isn't helping out here. Where are you APPLE? Use some of those outrageous profits you're making to fix the problem you have created. Here's $300 of my hard earned dollars pretty much down the drain.

  • Airport Error after upgrading iTunes

Sheesh, this is why I hate to upgrade versions of my software when they are working perfectly. I'm on Tiger 10.4.11 and I have an Airport Express connected to my stereo to stream iTunes. I've had no problems until last night when I did the stupid thing an I upgraded to iTunes 8. Now when I try to connect to my Base Station via Airport Express, I get an error that states "An Error occurred while connecting to the remote speaker "Base Station 05f205". An unknown error occurred (-3256). The Base Station 05f205 has worked flawlessly until now. Is Apple falling into the IBM Syndrome where upgrades ruin everything?

I answered my own question. The iTunes Help menu led me to an Apple link to download updated firmware for my Airport Express, so it appears to work again. One would think that the Airport Express would open a window telling you that there is updated software available, like many other programs do on the Mac.

  • Lost my iBooks after upgrading software, how can I get them?

Lost my iBooks that I had purchased before I upgrade to io5.  How can I see all iBooks that I had purchased?

I have very similar problem.  I purchased an ibook and it DL-ed fine on ipad-1.  However, after software upgrade I lost many chapters of the book and all pics in book.  Tried the fix of deleting the ibook and re-DLing it from "Purchases" but it keeps DLing the same book with missing chapters & pics.
Very frustrating.  How to fix this?

  • Can't connect to Airport Express after updating software

I ran Software Update today on my Intel Mini which updated iTunes to 7.3 and apparently included a security patch that I did not take note of. Since then I cannot connect to my Airport Express which is hooked up to my stereo system. The AE works fine when I connect to it from a PC in my home. Any ideas? Thanks!

Thank you for the suggestion Juan. I did a hard reset and reconfigured the AX. I was able to stream music to it from iTunes, but a few minutes later I noticed that my internet connection was stalled, as was my connection to email. So I rebooted the Mini and the internet and email are now working, but once again it won't connect to the Airport Express through iTunes...? It is almost as if it can no longer connect to the internet and stream music simultaneously. I don't know if it matters, but after the hard reset I set up the AX to "join my existing network", which is a Netgear wireless router. I assumed that the Mini's internet connection is thru the Netgear device, and by setting up the AX the way I did it would only be used for the stereo system. Should I have done something different?
