G5 Quad Pro Tools HD 7 System Crashes on Launch of Logic Pro 7.  WHY?

Updated to Logic Pro 7.1.1
Program gets to Launching DAE on the startup screen and then unexpectedly quits.

Hi,
you have to install at least Logic Pro 7.2 to be compatible with ProTools 7 at all, this version is not backwards compatible with ProTools 6.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302969
Logic Pro 7.1.1 is compatible with ProTools 6, but not 7.

  • I installed Lion OS X and Logic Pro won't run. I downloaded the 9.1.5 update: "An Eligible Logic Pro Version Was Not Found in the Applications Folder.  This Update require Logic Pro Version 9.0 or higher".  I have Logic Pro Version 9.1.1 installed.

I installed Lion OS X and Logic Pro won't run. I downloaded the 9.1.5 update: "An Eligible Logic Pro Version Was Not Found in the Applications Folder.  This Update require Logic Pro Version 9.0 or higher".  I have Logic Pro Version 9.1.1 installed.
I even pulled the dmg file into the Logic Studio folder in my applications directory and it still does not recognize it.  What do I do now?

    Niel:  Thanks.
For others benefit, here is what happened.
I had installed Logic Studio 9.1 some time ago.......not knowing what all the programs were nor what they did, I created a "Logic Studio" subfolder in my applications folder and put all Logic Studio programs into it so I'd know where they were and could review each at my leisure over time.
My assumption now is that when the updater looks for the Logic Pro program, it looks only in the applications folder.  It seems lame that it would not also look in the subfolders of the applications folder, but that apparently IS the way it works.  Because my Logic Pro program was located in the "Logic Studio" subfolder, the updater just didn't see it..hence the error message I received when I tried to update.
Solution:  I moved all the Logic Studio programs out of the subfolder and now they reside in the applications folder. Ran the 9.1.5 updater and it worked like a charm.

  • If I learn on Logic Pro 9, will it be difficult to move to Logic Pro X?

    Hello,
I am studying Logic Pro for composition of orchestral music - I bought Logic Pro 9 about 2 months ago, as I had no idea Logic Pro X was coming out. I also purchased a couple of books to study it.
I am not complaining about the lack of upgrades, as I know Logic Pro is very cheaply priced; I just cannot afford the upgrade right now as I do not have the money.
I would like to ask you if it makes sense for me to study on Logic Pro 9 for the time being, and if it will be difficult to move to Logic Pro X once I have learnt Logic Pro 9. What was your experiencing moving to Logic Pro X?
    Thanks.

Logic Pro X has got a different user interface than Logic Pro 9, so near everything you are learning won't be useful when you upgrade to Logic Pro X.
    What!!  Do you use Logic?
I think every experienced user here will disagree withyour above statement... I've had a chance to play around with X for a bit and while there are a few differences there's nothing there to prevent a user of Logic-9 from losing his/her way in Logic X.
The Important things are almost (if not) exactly the same.
I'm a long time Logic user! (since bersion 2.x).

  • Premier Pro CC 7.2.2 crashes on launch in Windows 7, probably self inflicted problem...

I installed PPCC 7.2.2 because I wanted to test the content analyzer to text functionality.
I started the software, loaded a file, and started the analyzer.  It then passed this over to Media Encoder as expected and the process chugged along merrily for about 30 minutes.  At which point I got bored and decide to stop the process and use a much smaller file to test with.
So, despite years of experience and knowing better I tried stopping the process, and when it wouldn't end I used the Windows Task Manager to kill the process in Media Encoder.
Now when I try to start Premier Pro CC 7.2.2 it crashes on launch and gives me the very descriptive message "Adope Premier Pro CC has stopped working."
My initial attempt to fix this was to uninstall PPCC 7.2.2 and reinstall it.  That didn't help.
Based on 38+ years of programming experience I suspect there is a corrupted temp file floating around that PPCC is finding when it launches.  So, I looked every place I could think of for temp files and/or crash dumps and deleted them all.
All the "crash on launch" discussions I have found so far refer to MAC systems, so I'm not sure where to look to repair the damage.
Anyone have any ideas on "the most likely" cause of the problem and what I need to clean up to fix it?
    Thanks, Bobw

I uninstalled Quicktime, rebooted 3 times to clear the Windows registry cache, reinstalled Quicktime, rebooted, then tried running PMPRCC 7.2.2.
I got the same non-descript error.  So, I checked the Resource Monitor it it showed only PMPRCC7.2.2 hung.  I checked the wait chain and it looks like this:

I grabbed screen shots of all that, and also grabbed the lists of "Associated Handles" and "Associated Modules."   I'm going to review the list of handles to see if there I can identify a file that has a date/time stamp near the time the problems start.   Let me know if you want me to post either or both lists.

  • My G5 crashes while using either Logic Pro

I am having a horrible time all of a sudden.  After I launch Logic and begin to work for a few minutes, I get the horrible dark screen that says I have to restart my computer.  This just started a couple of weeks ago all of a sudden.  Below is the report.  I don't know what this means.  Can anybody help?  Thanks so much.

rather than advocating, advising, and threadjacking that you use a G5 with Logic 9.02, while not officially supported, and works perfectly well on your system which in turn implies that it is correct here to discuss using Logic Pro on unsupported systems and receive support here unfairly from legal Logic Studio 2.0 or 2.1 owners for unsupported system configurations, it would be a lot more constructive and professional here to describe your G5 as a Logic Node slave which is a feature compatible with a G5 stated since Logic Studio 2.0 system requirements, but not to use a G5 as the master host in a cluster system which is not supported.
Master of B.S. you are grasshopper....
If you would bother to search the forums you'll see there have been many congenial threads discussing such matters..
I can run Logic 9.1.3 on a computer I built if I choose to, talk about unsupported! However, my studio runs on a G5 and I still do occasional work for NPR and PBS so I don't really understand the problem. Apple just happens to make this stuff... actually the real work on Logic was done before Apple purchased the parent company.

  • Yosemite total system crash MBP e2011 - revised logic board

Since upgraded to Yosemite I got several system crashes and I needed to make several clean installations with no success.
It starts with system freeze (no heavy tasks, last time happened when removing MS Office 2011 icons from the dock), spinning beach ball, needed to force shut down my mac.
After restart, progress bar stops at 50% and that is it. Safe boot is same story. Single user mode and fsck -fy can not repair disk. Recovery mode and disk repair do not help. It says that disk can not be repaired an I need to backup my data and reformat disk.
DiskWarrior and TechTol Pro can not find any issues with HDD.
Right now I am back on Mavericks and it looks like it works. No issues.
    Anyone else?
Another question: why in Yosemite my Toshiba 750Gb HDD is renamed to same name as my OS X boot partition on it?

Your drive is no longer managed as an HFS+ volume, but instead it is a CoreStorage volume. That is how the drive now appears when managed by CoreStorage.

  • Pro Tools Missing  audio file message syndrom exists on Logic

I come from Pro tools and i am a bit traumatised by this fkn Pro Tools missing audio file message for those who know what i mean..
Is it something possible and frequent in logic when we work on a daily basis ?

No, you simply copy the entire project folder to a flash drive and bring it home. If you have included the audio files in the project folder, which logic does by default, logic will find them just fine at home. If it asks where they are, you just hit "search" and if they're there, If you've copied the song file to your drive without including the audio files ("pilot error") then  the program can't find them. Often, I get protools sessions from clients with missing files. Sometimes the entire audio files folder is missing, but more often the missing files are out-takes that are no longer part of the arrangement, and were still in the audio file list of the song, but were not included in the folder when the project was copied and brought to me. How or why, I cannot tell you.

  • OS X Mavericks 10.9 crashes a lot with Logic Pro 9.1.8

I just upgraded from Mountain Lion 10.8.5 to Mavericks 10.9 via App Store and it went fine, everything is working perfectly
even Logic Pro with all the pluggins but it crashes at some points for example when i open reFX Nexus and when i reopen
the same project from the crashe name file, i find Nexus working as if nothing happened, also it crashes when i try to Bounce
before it shows the Bouncing window to choose the Bouncing format.
So is there anything i can do to fix this problem?????

Ok, since i didn't catch anything from anyone to help me out, so i decied to figuer it out myslef and to give my experience to everyone who has the same problem and wish to fix that.
    Simply:
    - Backup your computer using Time Machine first
    - Make a CLEAN installation for the Mavericks OS 10.9 by ERASING your Macintosh HD
using DISK UTILITY from the installation menu and complete the installation procedure until it's done
    - Restore everything using Migration Assistant during the first run Setup
And with that, you guys will have Logic Pro 9.1.8 working perfectly without any problems or errors,
i did this myself and it worked with me and i also found that all my Plugins are working fine too.
Please feel free to ask me if you have any inquires, i would love to help
    Good luck everyone

  • Help with Logic Pro 8, Apogee Symphony System, and Nehalem 8-core Mac Pro

So here's the problem. I went on a shopping spree recently and purchased an 8-core Nehalem 8-core Mac with 14 GB RAM, Apogee's Symphony system (With Rosetta 800 and AD-16X), and I use this gear with Logic Pro 8.
I still get system overload messages. Sometimes with only 1 virtual instrument and 8 audio tracks!
What gives? I'm running the fastest machine on the fastest system with the fastest/cleanest hardware.
I'm running Logic Pro on all of its highest settings (like it should). Of course I could drop the buffer size and unclick a few things here and there. but why? Is my machine powerful enough to handle it or not?
I've deleted the plist a bunch of times and repaired hardisks and everything. any help from a certified LOGIC pro would be excellent and much appreciated! thanks in advance,
    jayme

    ?It's highest settings?
Do you mean the sample buffer is at 32 or 1024.
Even though you have Apple's flagship system it's still possible for Logic to bring it to it's knees. High sample rates plus a couple of space designer reverbs can send a single core into an overload condition.
    Try these settings under Preferences/Audio.
    I/O Buffer Size - 256
    Process buffer - medium
Do NOT have the I/O Safety Buffer selected.
    More info.
What sample rate and bit depth are you recording at? ie: 48kHz, 24-bit?
When you open Logic's CPU meters are you seeing a single core spiking?
What effects are being used on the audio and single VI track?

  • If I delete logic pro 9 will I lose all the loops for logic pro X?

I want to make space on my computer and right now I have logic 9 and logic X both installed. I think I heard somewhere that if you delete Logic 9 than you delete all of the loops in Logic X, is this true?

If you mean... delete the Logic Pro 9 app then no you wont lose any loops... However, the LP9 app is small and really won't save you that much space if you delete it..
If you mean uninstall Logic Pro 9 plus all it's content after installing LPX then yes, you could lose some loops/content because the LPX installer takes notice of any LP9 content you have already installed.
In otherwords, don't try and uninstall LP9 and it's content after installing LPX

  • Preview/QuickView of HP Scan Pro PDF Files Causes System Crash in 10.5.5

Ever since upgrading to 10.5.5 on my iMac Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz, I have been having problems with PDF files created by scanning documents using HP Scan Pro. Prior to 10.5.5, the PDFs from HP Scan Pro worked fine and behaved like any other PDF. Under 10.5.5, however, opening one in Preview or trying to view it in the Finder using QuickView causes the whole system to hang. Processor usage jumps to >100% and everything on the system becomes unresponsive. Every app causes a spinning beach ball, the Dock will not display, menus will not pull down, and I can't even call up the Force Quit dialog via the keyboard. There is nothing to be done but force-restart the system by holding down the power button.
Looking in the system.log, it seems that ATSServer is the process that is causing this problem. A dump of the relevent log entries is at the end of the message. The "Non-aligned pointer" and "Incorrect checksum" errors just continue forever until the point when I force a reboot.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Does anyone have knowledge of what changed in ATSServer or PDF handling in 10.5.5 that could be causing this? What is unique about the PDF files created by HP Scan Pro?
    Thanks,
    Drew

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread that I started. I am glad to know it's not just me having these problems.
I have run through all the usual suggestions related to ATSServer problems and problematic fonts: I've cleared caches, checked all the fonts for broken ones, haven't installed any new ones since this problem began, etc., etc.
I've been able to make a few more observations about the problem in my case:
    1. I don't get any crashes while using the HP Scanjet software. I can successfully create a PDF file.
    2. The problem for me only exists on PDF files that I have had HP Scanjet do OCR on and save the text with the image in the PDF. If I scan to create an image-only PDF, it does not cause a problem.
    3. I have now noticed that the problem comes not only when trying to open problem PDFs using Preview or QuickLook, but it also happens when mdsworker, the Spotlight indexer, tries to access the file for indexing. The computer then hangs. I have now had to turn off Spotlight until I can eliminate all the problem PDFs. (The problem only happens with PDFs created since the upgrade to 10.5.5. Older PDFs created with HP Scanjet that were in the Spotlight index earlier do not cause problems.)
    4. These problem PDFs will open correctly in Adobe Acrobat or Acrobat Reader if Spotlight is off, but if Spotlight is on opening the file causes it to be indexed and the system hangs.
In Googling for solutions, I've found that people have sometimes been having problems with interaction between ATSServer and mdsworker since as far back as 10.2.x:

    Hi Medina ,
Acrobat 8 is an older version .It might not be compatible with Windows 7 .
Try upgrading it to the latest version .i.e Acrobat 11.0.10 or any higher versions than Acrobat 8.
Many folks have gotten AA8 to work on Win7. I have only heard of one report suggesting that AA8 will work on a 64-bit system, and I am not sure about the report. If you have a 64-bit system, you will likely need to upgrade, though if you play around you might be successful in finding a solution (Adobe will not help since it is not a certified platform, but some folks here might if they have been successful).
In any case, after installation you will need to do the updates for proper operation. If you can not do them from within Acrobat, you may have to download them fromhttp://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows. You need to install the updates in ORDER unless indicated other wise. Reboots can typically be saved until the last update is installed.

What is your exact brand/model graphics adapter (ATI or nVidia or ???)
What is your exact graphics adapter driver version?
Have you gone to the vendor web site to check for a newer driver?
-If Windows, do NOT rely on Windows Update to have current driver information
-you need to go direct to the vendor web site and check updates for yourself

  • ITunes crashing on launch on MacBook Pro

I have a MacBook Pro and just since this Tuesday it has decided that it doesn't want iTunes to open- I click it to open it and the icon appears and just bounces like it's about to open for maybe 1-2 minutes then just freezes- mid aid or sometimes not.
Then the entire Macbook starts running SO SLOW and won't do anything, just keeps bringing up the coloured wheel. I have to 'Force Quit' and even then I need to restart the MacBook for it to run as usual at normal speed.
I took it to my local Apple Reseller where I bought it and they tried to fix the problem to no avail- and sent me away to uninstall and reinstall the Operating System (OS X) and even that hasnt righted the problem.
I tried deleting iBooks as some forums seemed to use that as a solution but that makes literally no difference whatsoever. I'm now stuck as my warranty doesn't cover ''software'' issues which apparently this is one of- has anyone experienced this and found a way to fix the problem?
I tried installing the most up to date iTunes- but when I do my computer tells me it can't do that as I already have a newer version installed- I'm so stuck!!!

  • IMic USB Audio System will not play in Logic Pro X, help?

Hi guys.. I'm still pretty new to Logic. I'm currently trying to connect a guitar for recording using a 1/4" cable connected to an iMic USB Audio system. When I plug it in Logic recognizes it immediately, however it will not record. When I play it nothing happens.
Here's what I've checked and tried:
In system preferences, when I select iMic as an input and play the guitar the signal picks up successfully.
In Logic Preferences, I have iMic USB Audio System selected for the input, and system setting for the output (to hear as I play).
I create a new "guitar" track and make sure it also has iMic selected as its input source.
It works fine in GarageBand, but not in Logic.
I've searched everywhere looking for an answer and can't seem to find anyone with this problem! Help!?
    I'm using Logic 10.0.5 on Mavericks 10.9.2.
    Thanks!

Known problem with 10.0.5 I think, upgrade to 10.0.6
