G5 quit on me...again.
So yesterday I was browsing some pages on the web when all of the sudden my FIOS connection gave out. No biggie, so I figured i'd just reboot my G5.
I rebooted and it started with the normal "chime". But when the grey apple logo screen loaded, it did with rectangular blogs and lines going horizontally. Kind of like if you ever loaded a bad Jpeg picture.
It hung and hung and finally the screen went black, fans kicked like a 747's engines and nothing else happened.
I rebooted again, this time the grey screen froze, along with the lines, and nothing happened.
Rebooted a third time and the same thing happened as the first time. Went to the black screen along with the fans.
Rebooted once more and reset my PRAM with no avail.
So I decided to just put in my Leopard DVD and just do a archive and install.
I held down the mouse so that I could eject the tray since the button on the keyboard wasn't doing it and it spun the DVD and made sounds as if it was doing something, but all I saw was that same black screen as before.
I don't know what it could be.
I did call tech support on the phone and the person did suggest that when I got home from work(which is where I am now as I post this), I should unplug everything and push the power supply reset button(I think that's what he called it) near the RAM slots. I am going to try that in a short while and will update this thread if a solution is found.
If anyone here has any suggestions on this or has had a similar problem, please let me know. I thank you in advance!
PS. Back in January, I did have the dreaded loading screen problem that many have with their G5 where you see the little file icon with the question mark. It was fixed with a quick 10 minute visit to the Apple store where a tech just basically pluged in a mac book to it and hit a couple keys and that's it.
Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

You can try searching for, downloading the updates yourself and running the installers:
Product updates -
I have a Windows PC - OS: Win 7 Home Premium, SP1
I recently had to have my hard drive replaced and, as result, had to reinstall the Adobe products I own: Acrobat 10, Premiere Elements & Photoshop 9
I assume as part of reinstalling the software the Adobe Application Manager was installed as well - regardless, it indicates 'updates are available' -- however when I open the updater I am receiving the error message:
'There was an error downloading this update. Please quit and try again later'
The full message is as follows:
'Adobe Photoshop Elements 9.0.3 Update
There was an error downloading this update. Please quit and try again later.
Photoshop Camera Raw 6.5 Update
There was an error downloading this update. Please quit and try again later.
Premiere Elements 9.0.1 Updater
There was an error downloading this update. Please quit and try again later.'
Please advise!! thank you kindly
(secondary problem: whenever I open Elements or Photoshop and I am asked to log in with my Adobe ID, I get the error message 'Error. Photoshop.com services are currently unavailable. Please try again later or check your network connections. Error 400'. Now I know photoshop.com was replaced with Revel - but why is it consistently giving me the same error message? shouldn't it be updated by now or, specifically, is this indicative of a different problem when I attempt to login with my Adobe ID??)
thank you so much for any help provided!!I don't know why you are getting these errors. Try downloading & installing the updates manually from http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates.html

Creative cloud quit, says "download again" and still no joy, same message. Camera raw gone, Existing Lightroom 4.3 and PS-12 won't talk. What's up? Looks like Creative Cloud trial botched up something. iMac
Tried a number of "fixes" from blogs. No joy. Deleted all my adobe apps, rebooted, and Creative Cloud says it needs to reload. Went through that process, and it quit near the end, saying it needed to reload and directed me back to same Adobe site. Hmm. Round and round we go. How do I get off of this loop and get my Adobe Lightroom and PS working fine again? Whole episode started after loading CC and then PS said it didn't have Camera Raw. Went and downloaded that, wouldn't load and said I needed Adobe Download Diagnostic (or something like that) went to suggested link, whereupon it tells me it is no loger available.
Looking forward to cleaning everything off and starting over!! Any input gratefully accepted and I will NOT be trying CC again. I am sure it is just fine, just not for me, now.

this happens continual when I try to update minor increments for my CS5 Master collection no matter what application update I try.
No help available to resolve this problem...
William Bell.thank you,
I downloaded updates and installed manually, had to mess around a bit.
Start the updater from the program first, then install from the download.
Also, moved plugins that are for Premier from common plugins directory,
to the Premier plugins directory. Stopped the error I got launching After Effects
that said to reinstall the plugins.
Cheers!

I was un able to install my Adobe suite 5 web premium, but it will not install my updates, (There was an error downloading this update. Please quit and try again later) have done that have unistalled and reinstalled at least 5 times
Eduardo Alejandro Lazo what specific error do you receive when trying to apply the update?
I would also recommend checking the installation logs for the updates you are attempting to apply for errors. You can find details on how to locate and interpret the installation log files at Troubleshoot with install logs | CS5, CS5.5, CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/troubleshoot-install-logs-cs5-cs5.html. You are welcome to post any specific errors you discover to this discussion. -
I am trying to update CS5 through the CS5 application. I hit "updates" in the help menu. It goes through its series of updates and then says " There was an error downloading this update. Please quit and try again later."
I have no idea what this means. Of course, I have retried this….but to no avail. Can somebody help me?Please do a forum search. I and others have repeatedly answered this question a whole bunch of times recently.
Bottom line: the Adobe auto updater is utterly useless in CS5 and prior versions. You need to download the updates and apply them manually yourself.
I and others have even supplied the links for Mac and Win, which you haven't even bothered to specify. -
