G5 screen acting weird

I recently got this iMac from a friend. It's been having these screen issues:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dlc-UDIukP8
I replaced all of the leaky capacitors and any of them that were bulging, but it's still acting funny. I've also applied pressure to the GPU, but that didn't work either. This is the 3rd iMac G5 that I've gone through, and I'm wondering what other people think I should do? I'd like to repair it if at all possible.
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks.

Your inverter or your video card may be bad, or your screen itself can fail.  Try running Apple Hardware Test from your install disc to check out your Mac.

  • Iphone 5c touch screen acts weird

So i recently cracked the screen to my iphone 5c. I got it fixed, and it was fine for the first few days. Then the screen would do things on its own without me even touching it. Then it would just freeze. The phone doesnt freeze, but I try to use the touch screen, and nothing happens. Then i have to lock and unlock my phone to get it to work again. Can anyone tell me what the problem is?

You got it fixed by who?
If it was repaired by someone other than Apple, then take it back to them. Apple won't touch it if someone else opened it.

  • My MacBook was acting weird so I restarted it and when I login a white screen flashes and goes back to the login page. Help?

My MacBook was acting weird like sometimes I would log on and I wouldn't be able to type my password for a couple seconds, but it usually logged in after that. Then I left my computer open after installing the recent update after that all my applications were not responding. So I shut it down, when I turned it back on about an hour later it went to this loading screen and then to the login like usual. After I tried logging in a white screen flashed and it went back to the login/ password screen like nothing happened. Any ideas on what happened and what I can do to fix it?

    Reinstall OS X;
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

My computer has been acting weird lately. Shuts itself off, the mouse goes off in all directions, does not go into sleep mode sometimes, instead shows a gray screen with word definitions in large 3" letters that continuosly flows across the screen.  Do I have a virus?

Doesn't really sound like a virus.
See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility...

How many of these you can answer...
Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much RAM & free space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
In the Memory tab, are there a lot of Pageouts?

  • Imovie HD acting weird; won't show finished movie in the big screen

My Imovie HD has started acting totally weird. First off, it wouldn't show finished movie projects in the large viewing screen. Then there were clips that no longer showed up. Sometimes I can hear the sound of a clip, but not see it. I tried compressing a project in quicktime to publish it on the Web and I got an error. Then the imovie started acting weird. Now when I open it, it just closes on its own.
I've run disk utility and no problems were found. I also tried Tech Tool. And I couldn't find the plist file for imovie at all to delete it. I've also emptied the cache files. HELP!

There is probably an app. malfunction. You should have a certified Apple salesman look at it. Other than that, i am not sure what to do.

I am using Iphone 5. SInce the last 3 weeks the phones has been acting weird. on dialling a call it get hung on disconnecting it stays on the call ending screen only. this happens for atleast 5 to 7 minutes and then it gets to normal or the other way is to turn the device off and then turn it on. the phones also running slow and therefore at times becomes very cumbersome. a few of my friends have also been having the same problems.
I have taken the phone to the service outles but the best they did was to reboot the phone it works fine for a day or two but again the same issue.
Can anyone share any info on it?

I'm glad to hear that they replaced your phone. Any experience I have had with Apple customer service and/or Genius bar has been extremely positive. While I have had positive outcomes from trouble with other phones in the past, they are not as quick and  friendly. I had a Motorola phone and a Samsung phone go bad several years ago and warranty work through AT&T required that I wait for a replacement unit and then mail back the original unit to keep from being charged for the device. This usually meant almost a week without a phone. Nice to walk into Apple and walk out with a replacement device. Enjoy your phone.

  • Does low disk space make my Macbook Pro act weird?

Hi! I have an early 2011 15" MBP with a 750gb hard disk space. Just the other day, while I was using photoshop with my laptop, the screen went off so I had to reset it. My laptop acted weird after: doing a screen split (the right part goes to the left and vice versa), one time it had weird pixels that were scattered all over, recently, a blue striped screen. All of this froze my laptop by the way. And all of this happened after a few minutes of usage. And I noticed if I use photoshop, it would only take a little amount of time before it would act weird again compared to when I don't. All the times caused me to reset my laptop by holding the power button.
Yesterday, it wouldn't boot past the gray screen after resetting about five times. But after it turned off by itself, I tried turning it on again and it booted normally. And I could use it normally again, but with extra care (using it beside an electric fan, checking the temperature with iStat pro).
I tried the extended Apple Hardware Test but it told me no trouble was found.
Another thing was, everytime my laptop froze and did the weird screen thingy, my laptop was hot.
I tried to use it again yesterday to just surf the web, and after some minutes it was still functioning. But I remember one time I was only surfing the web, it did the split screen and froze after almost an hour or so.
Also, my laptop heats up quickly compared before. And can stand being hot for a long time until now.
I haven't used any heavy applications besides photoshop to test my laptop's weird behavior by the way.
So I guess it's because of the laptop's heat. Because I can only use it for a very short time when using photoshop but I can use my laptop for a longer time when only surfing the web.
I also noticed that if I was forced to reset my laptop and turn it on again, it would boot longer than normal. But if I was able to shut it down properly and turn it on again, it would boot normally.
And, just a while ago, I remembered my laptop's disk space was only 14gb from 750gb (downloaded a lot of series since I bought my laptop). So maybe what's causing the heat was the low disk space. Just a guess.  So is it possible that my laptop is behaving weird because of the low disk space?

The problem is back. But this time, it only happened when I used photoshop or played a 1080p video. I was using my laptop for almost 3 hours when i decided to use photoshop. It froze as soon as it started and made my screen display weird pixels. I restarted and tried to open photoshop again and this time, it froze. I did it the third time and after using PS for a minute, it did the split screen. After restarting yet again, I tried to play a 1080p video to just test my laptop. It froze as soon as VLC started. But when i only surf the web (which is the only thing I did before using PS), everything goes well. So I guess it really is the GPU and not the logic board or some other parts. I've decided to just have my laptop checked.

  • MacBook Pro acting weird at startup

    Hi,
First of all thank you for reading this, it's quite a long story. And sorry for any grammatical mistakes, I'm Dutch.
    Summary
My MBP suddenly has been acting really weird: kernel_task eating 150-200% of the CPU which caused a super slow MBP, power button not working well, and MBP shutdown after ten minutes without touching it and with the battery on 90%. I did a clean install of OS X Lion, some PRAM and SMC resets and removed the MacBookPro7_1.plist file from the system library. The kernel_task high CPU problem is now fixed. But the power button is still not working: most of the time my MBP shuts down three seconds after I push the power button in a first attempt. In the second attempt I hold it for like five seconds and this works. Sometimes it works fine on the first attempt. Restarting the MBP from the desktop works fine. I'm also worried about the random shutdown. What could probably cause the problem with the power button and the MBP shutting down when I don't touch it, and is there a way to fix this myself? I'm not really into tech, so please keep your answer simple.
My MacBook Pro "13 (mid 2010) with OS X Lion has always been a charm since I bought it. I've never had any problems with my MBP until now. Two weeks ago I was going on a holiday and had to check a few things on my MBP in a hurry right before I was leaving. I'm afraid I forgot to turn off my MBP before I went on my holiday, but I can't remember this exactly. When I came back after a week, my MBP started acting weird at startup and then became really slow. The kernel_task was eating my CPU with 200% and I've tried many things to fix the MBP myself but it still isn't working well. I hope you can help me with this.
    This is what happened:
    1. When I push the power button to start my MBP, the first time it shuts down three seconds after I push the button. After the first attempt I hold the power button for five seconds, and my MBP turns on the right way. After all the fixes I've done this is still an issue.
    2. When I finally got my MBP started the first time after my holiday, it was really really really slow. I later found out that the cause was the kernel_task eating my CPU. It was using 150-200% with no applications running.
    3. The MBP was acting normally (not slow) in safe mode, but in safe mode I couldn't open some sites in Google Chrome, like Facebook and Google Maps. So this didn't work either (and was not the solution to my problem).
    4. I did some things with PRAM and SMC reset but this didn't work.
    5. A clean install was already on my mind for weeks, so I decided that this was the right moment. After I did a manual backup (not with Time Machine) I restarted my MBP holding some buttons to startup the OS X Utilities screen. I first erased my Macintosh HD and then I wanted to install Mavericks because that was the only option from the menu. It took me five hours and at the end it came up with a 'can't download Mavericks, try again' screen. The MBP wasn't starting up anymore because OS X Lion was already erased.
    6. So I became annoyed and decided to use my original Snow Leopard dvd which came with my MBP. Installing Snow Leopard took me two days!!!!!!!
    7. When I finally got Snow Leopard installed, it still was really really slow and the kernel_task was messing up my CPU again.
    8. After some hours of searching on the internet, I read the following thing: fixing the kernel_task problem was easy by removing a file from the system library (http://www.rdoxenham.com/?p=259). Of course I've researched this solution because I'm not a fan of changing things in the system. But I decided to give this a try and it worked! Like a charm!
    9. I still was on Snow Leopard and decided to upgrade to Lion again, because I did know for sure that my MBP could handle Lion and I wasn't sure with Mavericks. So I first downloaded Lion from the App Store and then opened the installation program. This took me one day again, probably because the file from the system library was put back with the installation of Lion...
    10. When I finally got Lion running, the kernel_task was using a high CPU% again so I removed the file from the system library again and restarted my MBP. This worked.
    11. I'm working on Lion for a day now and I've installed some applications (Adobe CS5 Master Collection, Office for Mac, updated my 17.000 mails in Mac Mail, and installed some browsers). It's working fine and the kernel_task is at 1-10%. The issue with the power button is still there but sometimes it works fine at the first attempt. Yesterday my MBP suddenly shut down when I didn't touch it for like ten minutes. The battery was still on 90%. Maybe this was caused by the fact that my MBP was running for four days non stop because of the OS X installations, and it was a hot day yesterday.
So this is what I've done so far in this order:
    1. First of all I did a manual backup on my external HDD. Not with Time Machine.
    2. I tried to restart my MBP multiple times. Restarting from the desktop worked well, but shutting it down and than turning it on with the power button didn't work well.
    3. I did PRAM and SMC resets multiple times.
    4. I decided to do a clean install and erased my Macintosh HD from the OS X Utilities screen at startup.
    5. Then I wanted to upgrade from Lion to Mavericks but Mavericks couldn't be downloaded.
    6. I've installed Snow Leopard from the original dvd, this took me two days.
    7. I've followed the instructions from http://www.rdoxenham.com/?p=259 (remove the file MacBookPro7_1.plist from the system library) and this worked for my MBP.
    8. Because my MBP was working fine again, I decided to upgrade to Lion. This took me one day.
    9. My MBP was really slow again: Lion put the MacBookPro7_1.plist back in the system library so I removed it again. This worked.
    10. The problem with the power button still holds so I did a SMC reset again. Didn't work. My MBP also shut down yesterday when I didn't touch it for like ten minutes. I hope this was caused by the fact that the MBP was running for four days non stop, and it was a hot day so maybe it was overheated.
So everything is working fine again, but the power button still isn't. Most of the time my MBP shuts down three seconds after I push the power button. In the second attempt I hold it for like five seconds and this works. Restarting the MBP from the desktop works fine, and the kernel_task is now using 1-10%. I'm also worried about my MBP suddenly shutting down. Is there a way to fix this myself?
    Thank you!

    TokkieTor

    TokkieTor,
This is the full error message I got from the test:
    4SNS/1/40000000: IP0R-9:166
I read that those letters (IP0R) stand for different errors in the hardware, in my case it's something with the Power Bus according to this website: http://www.cnet.com/news/how-to-invoke-and-interpret-the-apple-hardware-tests/.
Again, I'm really not into tech so what is a Power Bus and should I be worried?
what you have is a problem with a sensor which monitors power bus current. The power bus is the main pathway along which electricity travels in your MacBook Pro. If the sensor isn’t individually repairable, then you could have reason to worry — if they tell you that a logic board replacement would be needed, then that could cost hundreds of euros. (One would hope that replacing a sensor would not require a logic board replacement, but only hardware experts can say for sure.)
I think that posts here are only editable for ten or fifteen minutes after replying.

  • Lion acts weird

For some days now my OS X Lion 10.7.2 acts weird...
    - at startup when I log in always the same programs open, even if I had them closed before shutting down or if I unchecked the "open programs at startup" thingy in the shut down dialog (for example iTunes and iCal open without me wanting them to)
    - iTunes opens always in the same genius-tab, even though I had another folder / song selected before closing the program
    - Finder preferences that I changed reappear the way they were before changing them after a renewed login
    - A plugin I tried installing and / or registering numerous time in Adobe Lightroom gets kicked out if I close and reopen LR (I tried reinstalling an older version of LR and reinstalling the newest version, but that didn't help anything)
    - I cannot delete files from my own folder without me having to login as Admin (though I do have read and write rights in the information tab) - though it is working with for example a test file I download to the downloads folder, but not with stuff already in there)
    - I spent a long time with an apple support hotline guy yesterday who didn't know what it could be (we tried cmd+r at startup and reattribute rights with no effect) and told me to reinstall Lion -> that didn't help either
It seems my imac is suffering from dementia... any help or ideas would be appreciated.
Would it help to press some other button combination at startup in order to reset some kind of ram (sorry I don't know which ram is for what)?
edit: also Preview is not working any more...
edit2: the Preview error also mentions something about permissions (I could also post the rest of the error message if that helps):
Saving after update for container (~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Preview/Data) failed: NSCocoaErrorDomain:513 You don’t have permission to save the file “Container.plist” in the folder “com.apple.Preview”.

Boot from your recovery partition by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the recovery desktop appears, select Utilities > Terminal from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, enter “resetpassword” (without the quotes) and press return. A “Reset Password” window opens.
Select your boot volume if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled “Select the user account” if not already selected.
Under “Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs”, click the “Reset” button.
Select Apple menu > Restart from the menu bar.

  • Why is my iPhone 5 acting weird when I plug it in to charge?

My iPhone 5c is acting weird when I plug it in to charge... The screen has uncontrollable movements/ app openings and closings.... Other wacky stuff happens to

    Hey there MeKai Curtis,
It sounds like your touch screen is acting strangely when connected to a power source. I recommend the steps in the following article:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Troubleshooting touchscreen response
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1827
    Restart your device
Hold the On/Off button until "slide to power off" appears. Slide to power off your device. When it is off, press the On/Off button to turn it back on.
If you can't restart your device, reset it by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for a least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Clean the screen with a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth.
Avoid using the device while wearing gloves, with wet hands, or immediately after applying hand lotion.
If you have a protective case, or if you are using a plastic sheet or film on the display, try removing them and testing the device without it.
If the steps above don't resolve your issue, please schedule a service appointment with an Apple Retail Store for evaluation. If an Apple Retail store is not an option, contact Apple to find out your best service option or see theService FAQ for your product.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Lumia 930 camera acting weird.

I was excited to get the Nokia lumia 930, after few weeks the phone slipped of my hands and dropped on a concrete floor from a sitting position. I got away with small scratche. But after approximatly a week my camera started acting weird. Its was making way to much noises then normal, and it stabilises the screen very hard. Its blinking most of the time, like some ghost activity.
Is this possible to be caused by some app on my phone? or was affected by the fall? can i fix it somehow or should i contact my mobile operator? Please help
    Thank you.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I guess it's likely that the impact the phone were exposed to is the reason for this, although it's hard to know for sure without the possibility to see it.
It isn't impossible that an app could cause this, and it's pretty easy just to start uninnstalling apps from the most recent one after the fail occured just to check. You could even back up and sync what you need and just perform a full reset of your phone.
But, as mentioned, it's likely to be a hardware fault. I would bring it to a Nokia care point for an inspection. If the fault can be related to you dropping it, the warranty is voided and you will have to pay for the repair.
    Good luck

  • Camera app acting weird - not saving photos - iphone 6 plus

I just got my iphone 6 plus... I'm trying to use the stock camera app and it's acting weird.  I'm able to focus and take a photo... after I take a pic, you know how the little thumbnail of that photo appears on the bottom left of the app?  You should be able to touch that and then view in full screen your last pic, right?  Well here is when it starts acting up... When I touch it, nothing happens!  I exit the app and go to the photos app and my picture isn't there!  The app doesn't appear to freeze - as I can still view the screen and what the camera is looking at!  Before the 1st photo is "taken" I am able to choose between any of the photo types (square, pano, video, slo mo, time lapse)... but the same thing will happen no matter which photo I choose.  If I pick a video, the video begins and then the touch part doesn't work... the video will run on 'forever' or until i press the home button - in which case the video isn't saved.
I have restarted my phone many times... and even done the power cycle (where you hold the sleep/lock and home button at same time)
Any ideas?  Please help - this is a 2 day old phone and the camera doesn't work properly.
What is really weird is that I can post a photo taken by instagram with no problem.. I can also use the Camera Awesome app but the photos aren't saved in the photos app... even if I try to export to camera roll in camera awesome!
    Thanks

    Hey Bender1031,
Thanks for the question, I can definitely understand how frustrating this issue may be with a brand new phone. Great troubleshooting so far by already attempting a restart and reset. If the issue persists, let’s try restoring your device and updating to the latest software (iOS 8.0.2):
Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
After erasing and setting up as a new device, your device is now in a factory configuration. Test to determine if erasing and setting up as a new device resolved the issue. Content on the device may have caused unexpected behavior.
    - If the issue is still present, you may want to contact Apple Support.
    - If the issue is now resolved, sync one type of content at a time back to the device. For example, if you had an issue playing music, add songs from iTunes and confirm they will play. If your contacts weren't loading successfully, add the contacts back. After each sync, test to see if the issue has returned.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.
