G5 starts, get to login then stops

I've searched and searched, and I cannot find a related article about this. Here's what's happening:
I power on. Grey Apple screen does it's thing then switches to startup. I get to the login screen and it let's me enter my password ... then, nothing. Just the blue design screen and a pointer. I can move the pointer .. but nothing happens. It doesn't continue and mount my HD.
What I've tried:
Ran Disk Utility - cleared with no problems.
Fixed Permissions - clear
Ran DiskWarrior - checked out ok
Ran Tech Tool Pro - check out ok
Reset SMU
Booted in 'safe mode'. - still nothing (same problem)
I've had problem after problem with this machine (P.S. it's a replacement machine from Apple - my first gen. G5 was error-filled too!)
I've had to do a complete Erase and Install 3 times now ... and still I'm getting this crap. HELP!
- and yes, I've backed up my stuff. I am currently running my mac off an external FW HD ... that I thankfully made as a startup disk!

Glad that I was able to be helpful,
Miriam

Guess I was in the wrong place to ask question.  So here it is, in PSE 11, I was downloading photos from Sony's Play Memories program, got a news Sony camera and they push this program, knew I shouldn't of used it, but to late.  While downloading photos from this into PSE organizer, it gets to 49% and freezes.  Must manually shut off computer to close out of Elements.  A small window appears stating "closing 1 app and shutting down, this app is preventing a shutdown".
My back up is on an external hard drive, Made sure I had the back-up for I was going to uninstall PSE 11 and Sony's Play Memories then re-install PSE 11 from hard drive.  Before I knew it, the back up started to down load and picked up the faulty portion from the Organizer.  So now they are both useless as I see iut.  Any thoughts?

For the past two weeks, every time I start up my computer I'm asked for an iCloud login. I've never used iCloud and I'm not likely to. How do I get this login to stop automatically showing up? I'm using an iMac G5 with OS 10.9.4.

One more quick thing first. Hold the SHIFT key this time as you startup and see if that gets you any further (this is called 'Safe Mode' by the way). I'm not too confident that this will work in your case but it's worth a try. If it boots up, go into Disk Utility and repair permissions.
If it doesn't, you're going to have to do an Archive & Install which will install a fresh copy of the OS over the top BUT keep all your users, files and apps in place.

  • My LabVIEW exe starts to run and then stops in Windows 7

I have built an executable in LabVIEW 2010 on a Windows XP machine and set the properties to be built for Windows 7 or later but when I try to run the exe on the Windows 7 machine the application starts up briefly and then stops running with no error message. Has anyone seen this? I have disabled the firewall on the Windows 7 machine.

    Hi Wassa,
It's very strange that your application window opens and then slowly fades away while "LabVIEW shuts down." Can you first verify that the VI itself runs properly on the development machine? Can you then build a .EXE and ensure that it too runs properly on the development machine? If we can get the .EXE working on the development machine you have two deployment methods:
    1. If you are deploying to a computer that already has the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine and any additional drivers required for your application, then you simply need to copy the .EXE to the deployment machine
    2. If you are deploying to a fresh computer that has no NI software, you'll need to create an installer. When creating the installer, you will need to look through the 'Additional Installers' sections and select any of the additional drivers etc. that are required for your application. By default, LabVIEW only includes the Run-Time Engine. If you are missing any of the 'Additional Installers,' the application will not run properly.

    Any ideas?

Your problem is that everyone seems to be using the same iTunes store account (ID).  That's fine when a family wants to share purchased items, but that's the rub - everyone is tapping into the same account, so they can download whatever is available.
As for icloud accounts, icloud is designed for single user use.  If multiple users share the same icloud account then all their devices will be synced together - same emails, same contacts and calendars, same notes, etc.  There is no privacy or division of data in this scenario.  The usual advice is for everyone to have their own ID for icloud, and share the family ID for iTunes store.

  • Itunes gets to 99% then stops, does any one have any suggestions as to how I can fix this?

When trying to download Itunes 10.5.1 the download reaches 99% then stops after a while it will say download has been interupted. I have tried using another browsers, disabling firewall and I have followed all the steps or uninstalling and reinstalling as suggested on the website. If anyone has any suggestions as to how I can fix this it would be much appriciated.
    Many thanks

Disable your firewall and antivirus software. It can cause problems with the update process. Kaspersky is especially bad for this.

  • Mail POP sill start pulling down emails, then stop

I have been killing myself on this quirky malfunction.
using mac mail that for months worked fine it now starts to pull emails down from the server, after about 20 messages you see the kb/m drop to zero and it just stops. I can click around and change settings if i want, i can read other emails. but the program is in a "partial hang" it won't sent emails and it won't finish POP-ing the rest of the messages. and it won't quit. i have to force quit.
if i open mac mail and send a message it works fine. so long as i don't "get new mail"
i have done the following things to try to resolve the issue.
    -re-install from leopard disc
    -delete com.mail.plist file
    -delete accounts and re create
    -rebuild database for the inbox
-deleted recent emails from the server and the client side
in testing with another machine i can pop fine
on yet another machine i can imap just fine as well.
what else can i do. please help. my auntie's small business is depending on me to fix this ASAP
    thanks in advance

i received help on another thread about this problem. here it is:
quit Mail and delete the file home directory/library/mail/MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded3. then start mail and try downloading your pop messages again. note that this will cause mail to redownload ALL POP messages. so if you don't want doubles you may want to make a local mailbox in "on my mac" section and move the contents of your POP inbox there first before trying the above.
    It worked perfectly for me.
give it a try and let everybody know if it worked for you too.

  • When I turn on my macbook air, it starts to boot and then stops and turns off.  How do I fix this?

When I try to turn my MacBook Air on, it starts to boot (gray screen with Apple logo and the swirling indicator) but then it simply shuts off. I have tried Safe Booting but that doesn't work either.
Does anyone have a suggestion as I really need to get a couple of files off the hard drive.

The progress bar on the apple screen indicates that the machine is attempting to boot to safe mode.
Boot your mac and holds down the Option key to boot to the boot manager.
Once in the boot manager click on macintosh HD and click the arrow to boot, this should boot your machine normally.
    Also perform an SMC/PRAM reset:
    SMC RESET:
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
    PRAM RESET:
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
If these fail, insert your OSX dvd, boot to boot manager, click the disc, reinstall the mac OSX.

    Hey,
While listening to songs on my iPod Classic 120gb, some songs will start to play, after 2-3 seconds, stop and start again from the beginning and play through the entire song no problems. On iTunes the songs still plays fine no stopping or starting. All songs are random artists and songs.
    Help! its really frustrating!

    Hey andy8299,
Do you have any other music software (i.e Limewire) installed? If so perhaps these files are not compatible.

  • External iSight Powers Up (Gets Green Light) Then Stops

I have one of the first iSights I can confirm worked up until two years ago. At that point I unplugged it and never plugged it back in. It stayed mounted on the computer. Today, I decided to re-plug it back in but I can't get it to stay on. I've followed all the step in the troubleshooting guide (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090) and I've even plugged it into three other Macs. Same results:
    The device turns one
    Green light comes on
    Then there's a quick noise
    Green light goes off
Device is not recognized by the machine.
Is it simply old and unusable now?

Do not be concerned that the little green indicator light atop your iSight illuminates for a few seconds and then goes dark when you first connect your iSight or power on your Mac. Neither should you be concerned that you hear a soft whir as iSight attempt to focus either. Both these occurrences are normal.
On its own, the fact that the green light goes out will NOT prevent your iSight's proper function with applications that can use your iSight. (Test with only one app at a time.)
Note that iSight can be picky about sharing your Mac's Firewire, so be sure you have NO other Firewire devices connected while you are trying to get iSight working. Also disconnect any other A/V devices you might have such as game boxes, TV, audio, or video converters, etc., while you are troubleshooting iSight.
... followed all the step in the troubleshooting ... plugged it into three other Macs.
... Device is not recognized by the machine.
You have done some great troubleshooting. Failures on other Macs is particularly informative.
If you have considered all of the suggestions I offer for testing your external iSight in
http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/EZJim/EZJimpage4.html but your external iSight is still not recognized as a Firewire device in System Profiler, you almost certainly have hardware trouble. However, your problem may be repairable.
Is it simply old and unusable now?
An Apple Authorized Service Provider may be able to repair your iSight. Some local, phone, web, and third party repair possibilities are identified here:
