Gen 4 iPad will wake up from "sleep mode" on its own and stay on till fully discharged, getting fairly hot in the process

I think I have the same problem. The whole sequence is:
    * Put MacBook Pro to sleep by closing lid.
    * After some period of time that varies, I notice sleep LED is no longer pulsing.
    * The case is VERY hot.
    * When I open the lid, the display stays black.
    * No sequence of keys or closing/opening lid wakes display.
    * Only way to recover is to power cycle.
    * Problem is VERY intermittant -- I do not know how to reproduce it at will. AppleCare service had it for a whole week and couldn't reproduce it, whereas for me it occurs once every 1 or 2 days.
    Actions:
    * AppleCare service replaced the main logic board in early June, but it didn't help.
    * I did a clean erase and install, but it didn't help.
    * AppleCare service had the unit for a full week in July and couldn't reproduce the problem, so they returned it and it still had the problem.
I have a Logitech Bluetooth mouse, don't know model other than M-RBB93. I'll UNset "Allow Bluetooth to wake..." and will also turn off the bluetooth mouse before closing lid. I'll post my results.
Meanwhile, please let me know if anyone determines a solution!

  • GT70 BSOD or Stuck after Windows puts it to sleep mode of turns off monitor

    Hi Everyone!
i have an  issue (or 2) with my laptop.
    both happens when:
    1) whenever i put the laptop into sleep mode or either windows does so automatically (inactive period), - the laptop will go to sleep just fine.
    2) windows turns off monitor after a period of inactivity. (sleep mode due to inactivity was disabled in this case)
in both the cases i mentions above, if i wake the computer within lets say 5 minutes, it'll turn on just fine.
but after a certain period of time passes it wont.
with the sleep mode, the computer will wake and will then produce a BSOD STOP error 0x4 and restart.
with monitor turned off it'll simply wont turn on, not responding to neither keyboard, mouse or power button. - i have to do a hard reboot
    any ideas?
    anything i can check?
note the laptop just came back from a warranty repair, so all parts have been tested and been found ok!
    system specs:
    MSI GT70-0ND
CPU: Intel Core i7-3630QM 2.4GHz (Intel GPU HD 4000 included)
    Memory: 16GB DDR3
    Storage: 750GB HDD 7200rpm
128GB SSD (Patriot Pyro SE) - OS installed on this.
GPU: 4GB NVIDIA Geforce GTX 675MX
    OS: Windows 7 64bit
    Thanks in Advance!!

i dont think i have the same problem as in the other thread.
    my bios:
my laptop doesnt restart when my screen is turned off and i try to wake it. it would simply wont wake up.
and my BSOD happens only after i wake the laptop from sleep mode and only if it been in sleep mode for a while. meaning i if i wake it up within a few mins of going to sleep it'll boot justfine.

  • Problems to connect with VNC to headless mac mini after sleep mode

    Hallo,
I've a Mac Mini (late 2009) setup with Lion Server. I want to use it without mouse/keyboard/monitor attached. Since I want to safe power ( green IT ;-) ), I would like to use sleep mode.
First thing I've learned is, that Lion Server prevents the mini to go to sleep after an idel time as set in power saving.
The only thing that works, is setting up a shedule with sleep / wakeup times.
When I start the mini, everything works great. I can connect via VNC. The Mini goes to sleep at the scheduled time and wakes up again as expected.
From this time on, things begin to get strange:
I can connect using VNC, but all i get is a grey screen with a moving cursor. So VNC is working, but there is no screen available on the Mini. Same if I use thightVNC from a Windwos PC. Get a grey screen.
Further the system does NOT go to sleep at scheduled times any longer.
I was able to track down the problem to the missing monitor: If the Mini wakes up without a monitor connected, I seems to wait to get the right resolution or what ever. All servives are working, SSH is fine even VNC works, but shows only a grey screen.
I've been playing with attaching / detaching a monitor. Sometimes I got:
    - Boot with monitor
    - connect with VNC, see login screen
    - send Mini to sleep
    - disconnect monitor
    - wakeup Mini
    - VNC reconnects, showing grey screen
    - plug in monitor and wait until login screen appears on the monitor
    - VNC switches from grey to login screen
The only way I can save some energy is a sheduled shutdown / restart. So headless works, but not after waking up from sleep.
Any hint or solutions for this ?
    Thanks
    Marc

I have read your post on how your monitor goes into sleep mode and will not wake up, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
To rule out any sleep mode issues with the monitor, I am providing you with some steps you can try below:
Step 1. Unplug the power cord from the back of the monitor and the wall
Step 2. Hold the power button down for at least one minute
Step 3. Plug the power cord back into the monitor and then into the wall outlet (not a power bar or surge protector)
Step 4. Press the Menu button on the monitor
Step 5. Navigate to the Factory Reset option and select it
Step 6. Try a different cable connecting your monitor to your computer
If the above steps did not resolve your issue you can try the monitor on a computer or other device to see if the issue persists. Please call our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region.

  • HP Pavillion won't go into sleep mode

I have an HP Pavlillion that's about 3 years old. Recently when the comeputer goes into sleep mode (or when I put it in sleep mode), but the computer keeps going in and out sleep mode. It's like the computer goes into sleep mode then about 10 min. later it sounds like the computer is waking up by itself (however the monitor doesn't wake up). The monitor and computer will wake up if I move the mouse or whatever. But now I'm just shutting down the computer completely each night. Any ideas why this may be happening and is there a way to fix it?

I understand that you think your computer is going in and out of sleep mode yet the monitor stays in sleep mode and both the monitor and computer wake when you use the mouse or the keyboard. I suspect that what you are thinking is the computer waking up is actually scheduled activity or background processes running. If the monitor is staying in sleep mode I do not think that your computer is waking up or if it is it's to process specific activities like checking for updates or checking email etc . . .
If you are concerned I would be happy to assist you, but first I would encourage you to post which operating system you are using. And whether your operating system is 32-bit or 64-bit as with this I can provide you with accurate information on booting in Safe Mode and finding out for sure what is causing this activity.
Which Windows operating system am I running?
Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit?
Please re-post with the requested information and I would be happy to provide you with assistance. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

    Hi,
Firstly, I would suggest we use Exchange 2013 FE as the Outlook Anywhere proxy server.
For the certificate issue, it mostly occurs because the host name that Outlook are trying to access does not match the certificate SAN. Please check with this point. If they do not match, you
can change the host name by referring to the following article:

  • Sound not staying muted when resuming from Sleep mode

The subject says it all. When I resume from Sleep mode the sound is not staying muted. I have found a third party app to get around this but I would rather solve it without having to run something else in startup.
I have a HP Pavilion dv7-2206tx Entertainment Notebook running Windows 7 with all the latest updates installed.
Anyone know how to prevent this from happening?

  • HP M125rnw sleep mode problem

Hello Sorry for my English. I recently purchased a HP LaserJet Pro MFP M125rnw.I installed the printer using the ethernet connection. I can't solve the problem with printer sleep mode. After a long stay in sleep mode, the printer refuses to print: 1. I can't print from a PC with Windows 7
    2. I can't print from a PC with Ubuntu 14.10
    3. I can print reports using the WEB interface
    4. Turning off/turning on the printer solves the problem for some hours Is it a problem with the printer hardware?

When it goes to sleep go to the menu on the printer and see if you can press any buttons to bring it out of sleep mode.  If you can, then the issue is probably with the driver you are using.  If you can not wake the printer with the button, then you have a hardware issue and the formatter is probably defective.

  • My imac takes about eight minutes to be fully functional after a cold start or from the sleep mode. The hard drive sounds like it has to go through a number of gyrations before being fully loaded. When I first bought the imac start up was much faster

My Imac takes about 8 minutes to be fully functional after a restart or awakened from the sleep mode. I can hear the hard drive making a number of gyrations before it's ready to let me do stuff. This is a 5 year old machine and was much faster in the beginning. Any suggestions?

Impossible to say however it may need more RAM, or if you have been turning it off every day it isn't given the opportunity to run it's daily, weekly and monthly maintenance. This is all done in the background in the middle of the night. I would recommend following the steps in 25 Ways to Speed Up Your Mac until you find the cause of your slowdown.

  • Start up problems after sleep mode

    Hi,
Half of the time when I put my mid 2010 MacBook Pro in sleep mode by closing the screen it won't restart once I open the screen back again (the screen remains black). This hasn't happened that many times before, but now its becoming more frequent. The only way I can restart my Mac is by holding the on/off button for a few seconds.
Does anyone had similar problems or knows who I could resolve this issue?
I would appreciate any help on the matter
    I run:
    OS X version 10.9.5
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    mid 2010 MacBook Pro 13-inch

    Step 1
Take all the applicable steps in this support article. That's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem. Please read the whole article carefully (some of it is hidden by disclosure triangles) and don't skip any of the steps, including the ones under the heading "Additional troubleshooting." If you don't understand any of the steps, ask for guidance.
    Step 2
If you're running OS X 10.8.5 or earlier, from the menu bar select
               ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Accessibility
If the checkbox at the bottom marked
              Enable access for assistive devices
is checked, uncheck it and test.
If you're running OS X 10.9 or later, select
               ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Security & Privacy ▹ Privacy ▹ Accessibility
If any applications are listed on the right and have a checked box next to them, uncheck all the boxes and test. You may first have to click the padlock icon in the lower left corner of the window and authenticate as an administrator to unlock the settings.
    Step 3
In the Energy Saver pane of System Preferences, uncheck the box marked
Put hard disks to sleep when possible
    Step 4
This and the next step must be taken as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that heading, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You may see one or more reports with a name that begins with "Sleep Wake Failure" followed by a date. Select the most recent one. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
    Step 5
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ Diagnostic and Usage Messages
In the search box in the window's toolbar, enter "powerd" (without the quotes.)
You may see one or more lines like this:
    com.apple.message.signature: Platform Failure
If you do see that, and you did everything in the preceeding steps, then you're dealing with an internal hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.

  • IMac taking ten minutes to start up and sits at a blue screen for the most of the time. Also, when it goes into sleep mode I am unable to wake it up from it.

For the past few days now whenever I go to turn on my iMac it takes roughly ten or more minutes to boot up. For the portion of this time it sits on a blank blue screen. At first it comes up to a plain white screen which after about 30 seconds has the apple logo on it and the spinning circle for about a minute then to the blue screen, every time. Then, to top it off right when this started happening another problem began occurring. The computer is set to go into sleep mode after 15 minutes of no use. But, if it is in sleep mode for too long I am unable to get it out and I have to restart the entire computer, but if it is just for a few seconds into sleep or a minute I am able to get the screen to come back. I can still here the fan running and such so I don't know what is going on. I have searched through discussion after discussion. I have tried: repairing disks, repairing permissions, starting up in safe mode, and such. There has been no luck so far. I was wondering if anyone could offer insight into fixing at least one of these problems since my schooling relies on the computer.
By the way I this is an iMac 10.6.4 refurbished which we just bought about two weeks ago.
    Thanks for any suggestions!

My iMac i7 quad was having the same symptoms with the blue screen and long startup times a couple of months ago.  Apple Care told me to bring it in to the local Apple Store, and after some diagnostics, the hard drive required replacing.  It took one day to replace the hard drive and my iMac is running great. I only had the iMac for about 12 months when the drive needed to be replaced.  Not sure if that is your Mac's problem, but it was for mine.

  • Late 2012 Mac mini with OSX 10.8.2 has started shutting down instead of going into sleep mode.

Sometime in the last week or so my mac mini has started going into full shut down instead of sleep mode.
I have tried checking and unchecking energy saver boxes but haven't found anything which will get me back to where I used to be - and I haven't knowingly changed anything to make this happen.- maybe an OS update caused it?
The machine will fire up with a tablet click rather than needing the reset button to be pushed so clearly the machine is sort of halfway between sleep and full 'off'. Most frustrating as one of the key issues for me in getting this my first mac was its easy sleep and super quick fire up compared to windows.
    Any help appreciated
Oh yes  I just remembered that I did just install 2 8gb of crucial RAM (to replace the supplied 2 2gb but surely that can't have anything to do with it - can it)?

Adding to my first post I can now advise that when the mac goes into sleep mode the light on the front stays on (it does not pulse so clearly it is not really sleeping).
When i click the tablet / keyboard this is actually what triggers the mac to reboot
I have tried resetting the SMC as per the following link to no avail
