G5 suddenly will not boot up.

Ok...this is serious for me, so I'm panicking.
First of all, I have a 2.0ghz Dual G5 with two 23"monitors, within the G5 is 2 DSP protools cards, a LaCie external dvd-rw drive, and a 260G external LaCie harddrive. This is pretty much the load.
Anyway,
I left it for a couple of hours, came back to it and the fans were blowing noticeably hard with the screen blank. I gave it a hard shutdown. Powered it back up and the most I got from it was white screens with the apple logo...but no "booting wheel" rolling to indicate it's booting. Rebooted it several times and I either get that reaction or it's just completely blank...but either way, if it sits for a couple of minutes the fans blow unnaturally hard. The only other things I've done is reset the SMU.
That is where my knowledge ends. Can anyone PLEASE PLEASE help me?
Is this going to be a big costly fix or is it something simple?

Ok...I've tried a couple of things.
I looked up the verbose and single modes, booted up in both...and they both give me the same thing...black screen with several lines of text. The bottom line reads DART enabled. Don't know what that's about but I can't do anything while in that screen...other than shut it down. No functions work.
While trying to boot it up a couple of times, it immediately powered down as if someone pulled the power cord. That is definitely something that is raising a red flag.
But for the most part, it's doing the same thing. I even put my original install disk in the dvd rom and it doesn't boot from there.
I'm flipping out at this point because I hope to God that nothing's fried...especially when I did nothing but leave it idle.
Anything else anyone?

  • A1630n will not boot up

My a1630n suddenly will not boot up. It was working fine other than the display was fading, ( some portions of the display were so light they could barely be seen). It worked fine one day and the next it won't. The fan comes on, but the processing light does not come on. I'm running WindowsXP.
Any ideas what could be the problem?

Hi , Could be damaged or failed RAM , it could also be a failed power supply . You can try to reseat the RAM to see if that helps start your machine or if you have more than 1 RAM module installed in your machine try booting from 1 module at a time not both and it will tell you which module has failed if not both . Regarding the power supply you can if your comfortable in doing it change your power supply or take to a PC repair shop so they can just plug a good supply into your machine  to see if it will boot . Hope this helps   Checkurtech

  • E530 will not boot

My E530 suddenly will not boot. After putting it in sleep mode and leaving it for 10 minutes, I came back to find that my computer would not come out of sleep mode. I tried holding the power button, but the computer would not turn off. I pulled out the battery but when I put it back in, I found that the computer would no longer turn on. When I press the power button now, all that happens is that the red light comes on for a few seconds and then goes out, there is no other sign of activity as the hard drive and fans do not come on either. I have tried hard resetting it multiple times but still nothing. I have no other computer and have work that I need to do. I would really appreciate some help

My son's E530 is having a similar problem, did you find a solution? Elsewhere in German they talk about it being the Motherboard, but I can buy a new laptop for the price they are quoting for replacement MBs. in my case the red led comes on, as does the power led if using the external power, the CPU fan spins for a short time and you can hear the hard drive spinning. But nothing else, no Bios tones or boot screens.

  • My iPad Mini with retina display suddenly will not connect to the Internet. It shows full wifi bars, yet no web pages will load. My Internet is working with all other apple devices in my house. The iPad also no longer works with celluar data.

My iPad Mini with retina display suddenly will not connect to the Internet. It shows full wifi bars, yet no web pages will load. My Internet is working with all other apple devices in my house. The iPad also no longer works with celluar data. I'm not sure what has happened. It was working fine a few hours ago. I have tried resetting it, ive restarted my browser etc. I tried to erase all data from my Ipad but I can't do that because it needs to sign into my Apple ID and use the Internet!

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • Solaris 10 - system hung, and now will not boot

I have a SunFire V240 with 2 73 SCSI disks running Solaris 10. Only the first disk has been formatted. The box was newly installed last week.
It had 2 zones set up on it and one of them was running a service out of it (called knowledgetree). I came in this morning (monday), and although I could ping the main server and the zone, I could not ssh to the box. I hooked up a console cable to the box, and there was nothing.
I then went to the OK prompt and typed boot.
    It said
    1} ok boot disk2

Does anyone have any ideas on what happened, or what I have to do to get the OS to boot again. I am a bit of a nubie when it comes to Solaris .... I am not sure what happened, or why all of the sudden the server will not boot.
    Thanks for the help
    Peter

Usually you can just do a "boot disk" or "boot disk1"
devalias will show you what actually devices the short alias map too.
It might be a faulty drive bay.
Try pulling it out of one and plugging it into another.
    The do the probe-scsi again.
Then put it back into the first to confirm....

  • Slow and now will not boot

I have a 10 month old 20 imac, and it had been running a little slow and was going to upgraded the memory in the next week. But now it will not boot at all.
Last night it locked up I restarted and verified the disc, it passed. All the hardware passed. I started to try and back up my file from thecomputer and came up with file unreadable then it locked up again and now it will not boot. It chimes shows the apple screen then freezes on the blue screen. I have tried the safe boot, to run the test from the install disc, boot from the disc and all I get is a blue screen..
I seem to be reading about what seem to be a lot of the I macs suddenly slowing down, and from what I am gathering it seems MAC may have a batch of hard drives that fail around the year mark, with no warning until complete failure.
    Does anybody have any suggestions

    Hi CC
I have a 7 month old 20" iMac and have had no problems. Suffice to say, you should definitely take your 10 month old back to where you bought it. Locking up and freezes and it passed the AHT sounds scary.
    Return it.

  • PowerMac Will NOT Boot up

Last night my PowerMac G5 seemed like it was hung up. I had to shut it off to get it to do anything. It hasn't booted since. I went through all the diagnostic BS, verified the disk, checked the permissions, booted in verbose mode and it end up hanging when it gets to something that said something about CiscoVPN. I have Cisco VPN software loaded on the box. I have used it for months so I'm not sure why all of a sudden it is a problem. So, i brought the PC to the Apple store. Genius could not get it to boot or start in Safe mode either. TOld me to try the Archive and Install. I brought it home and did that. Now it boots but I get no icons or toolbar. I get part of the spotlight toolbar in the upper right. It is about 1/2" long. Nothing happens. Does the same thing if I start in safe mode.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on here? I am getting a little upset with my Mac. Not sure why this machine will not boot. Don't want to lug it to the Apple store again.

Well, I can't say for sure what's wrong. What I would do if it were mine...
Swap out memory chips if you can. If you have four, take out two and see what happens. If it works, one (or maybe even both, but probably not both) of the chips you took out is bad. If it doesn't work, swap out the others. If you only have two, try them in different slots.
If you have an external firewire HD that can boot your Mac, install an OS on that and see what happens. If it works, you're probably looking and a bad HD.
Since there are a lot of other components that could also have failed, there's no telling what exactly it is, but memory and HD's are the most common causes of pain.
You mentioned doing the standard troubleshooting BS - if you haven't pressed the PMU reset button or booted into open firmware mode and doing a reset, make sure you add those to the standard troubleshooting BS bag-O-tricks.
If none of the above work, I'd try backing up my important data, erasing the HD and doing a fresh install.
    Good luck,
    Jeff

  • HP Pavilion Elite m9258 will not boot up. Won't recognise USB ports -mouse keys etc

    HP Pavilion Elite M9258
70 percent of the time will not boot up.
Computet light is on. DVD drive will open and shut. Fans sound slightly quieter when this happens.
The monitor comes on but the light goes to  orange. When I press any of the monitor buttons, it flashes a message for a few seconds telling me it is in sleep mode and invites me to move the mouse or press a key to continue
The problem is that the USB ports are not recognised by the computer at this point. The infra red mouse light flashes briefly when the computer is switched on then goes and remains off. The keyboard is also unresponsive.
The sole fix that  I can find is to repeatedly turn the computer off and on again. After 70 -100 attempts ( over 4 to 6 hours) it suddenly boots up normally. The problem began a year ago and is increasing in duration and severity.

  • Pavilion tx 1000 will not boot up

I was using my pavilion tx 1000 a few months ago and the screen suddenly started to fade to full white and this happened. My notebook will not boot up after powering on. The lights come on except for the wifi and mute button indicators. The fan starts and then stops after a few seconds. The screen remains blank. I took it to a family friend who changed my motherboard and it's been working for about a few weeks. The screen faded again like the first time two weeks ago but I left the computer alone and tried to turn it on again and it magically worked. Just today I tried to turn it on after what seemed to be normal use without any problems and the same boot up problems occurred. Does anyone have a solution or at least an explanation? Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

I had a similar problem.  I finally got my HP tx 1220us to  boot at power up and also start automatically after reboot. All without replacing the motherboard.  It's been nearly two days now and the computer has been booting up without a problem.
I do not know what cleared up the problem.  I did try all of the solutions offered on the net such as:
    1. Removing the Norton Antivirus
    2. checking connection for ram, hard drive etc.
    3. Stopped the sleep/hibernation mode.
Nothing worked.  HP suggested that I replace the motherboard at cost of $399. I could not accept this simple and easy solution, not yet.  Not until, someone could tell me which part of the motherboard was bad or at least get me the error codes from POST.
I found out that one can buy for under $9, a simple display unit, which would tell you the POST error code and what the error was in the POST operations. However, this unit works only if you have a PCI slot or USB and Parallel printer port.  The Tx1220 does not have the PCI slot or the parallel printer port. Technically, one can buy a parallel to USB adapter for under $20.
I checked with Geek Squad.  They wanted $70 to run tests on the motherboard.  So I decided to do something else for a change.
    I took the following steps:
First, I restored the Operating System as soon as I got the notebook to boot up.  The computer started booting up at first try and even restarted after Windows restarted the computer.
Second, I also replaced the Norton Internet Security 60-day subscription installed automatically by HP by default to plain Symantec antivirus.
(Note- Windows does not do a clean uninstall of NOrton Internet Security or the Antivirus program.  You will need the Norton removal tool from Symantec to do a better job.)
Also, I later removed the symantec antivirus program and replaced with the free AVG program.
Third, I disabled CLCApssvc.  (I believe this program controls the webcam- not sure what else it does.  You will see this program listed in the error message -windows event viewer).
Fourth, I also changed the screen resolution to low/medium settings,
Fifth, I stopped the sleep and hibernation mode in the power settings.
I do not know what or which of the above actions actually cleared up the problem.  It is a mystery.
I strongly believe that this is not a hardware problem rather a software problem.  Something happens in between after POST completes its process and the OS takes over.  I might be wrong but, either SAV or CLcapsvcs leave behind a conflicting set of instructions, which stops the boot up process to Windows.

  • 15" Macbook Pro will not boot

Macbook Pro 15" (purchased with Tiger OS) will not boot. The battery has a short life so the laptop shut down in the middle of use.  I plugged the laptop in to the power cord and  tried to reboot after the sudden shutdown, but the bootup goes to the apple logo with the spinning wheel and stays there.  I don't have the original install cd, but was able to run disk utility from the snow leopard install cd:  it said the hardrive was okay after I ran disk repair and the checked the volumes also checked out.  Not sure why it will not reboot, and not sure how or what else to check into next.  I already took the battery out and put it back in, and there was nothing wrong with the video card or graphics, everything was running smoothly until now.
Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong or does anyone have any suggestions on other steps to further check into the problem, my knowledge stops at the disk utility, disk repair check. Should I reinstall snow leopard (i installed snow leopard over tiger about a month ago)? Thanks for your help.

If it won't respond to even low level firmware commands such as Target Disk Mode, there is a high probability that the logic board is toast. My Early '08 MBP died that way last Dec.: was working fine at the office, put it to sleep by closing the lid, wanted to check mail before going to bed, opened it and never came back to life. Ever. AASP diagnosed a dead board 2 days later. Was able to salvage the HDD with no loss of files, fortunately, by taking it out and putting in a FW case. Since repairs amounted to about 40% the cost of a new one and it was after all a portable going into its fifth year, opted to get what I have today.
Sorry for not having more cheerful news.
