G5 Tower - When Burning DVDs Finder Restarts
I have always been able to burn DVDs on this tower with no problems. Now I insert a blank DVD-R to burn and the disk icon shows up. I rename it, drag my files to it and then click 'burn disk'. The computer pauses for a second and then crashes the finder. Haven't made any upgrades to this machine so not sure why this is happening. Anyone else experiencing the same problem? I have set my CD/DVD prefs to 'Open in Finder" as suggested in another thread and it's still not working. The DVD drive is a Sony internal (came with system when new).
You can try upping your ram voltage to 2.65, 2.7 or 2.8, whichever is next.
What are your system and cpu temps just before the crash?
I don't think it is a factor, but generally the DVD writers make better masters than slaves.

Hardware Error when burning DVD's
I keep getting an error message when burning DVD's using Toast Titanium on my iMac..it reads:
"Drive Reported an error, Sense key = hardware error, sense code = 0 x 03."
Twice after getting that message I couldn't continue to burn and it stopped, once it did continue to burn and finished successfully. Any ideas, anyone?
17" iMac G5 w/ iSight Mac OS X (10.4.3) upgraded to 1GB RAMI get the same message today when burning from Toast 7.02 on my iMac. It happened when I was trying to make an audio CD from my iTunes collection (not when Copying from CD to CD). The exact message I got in the middle of my burn was:
The drive reported an error:
Sense Key = hardware Error
Sense Code = 0x03, 0x01
I tryed again with another CD and got the same thing. I never had a problem with these CD's (TDK CD-R up to 48x).
I wonder if there has to be some sort of software upgrade fro Roxio Toast or is this a superdrive malfunction/etc. My Superdrive gets very loud during this burn as well. I may take it in to Apple Genius Bar. Any ideas? -
Unable to obtain full screen when burning DVD
I have a trial version of Adobe Premiere Elements
8. When burning dvd and then playing on my tv through dvd player I am not getting a full screen. The wide screen video covers about 3/4 of the screen instead of the entire screen. The settings I am using are NTSC widescreen dolbyDVD, and Quality is checked with no changes in quality. The preview screen is set on a magnificatgion fit. The Video is centered on the preview screen. I have spent hours trying to resolve this problem? I have a trial version and not sure if want to purchase with this problem.
I tried to upload the 8.01 up grade and my computer just blinks on and off; will not load?I have been having the same problems. See my discussion threads on aspect ratios in the past few days.
Let me share my thoughts on this. Apparently Elements 8 is optimized to work on 4:3 CRT TV's; HD flat screen TV's must not have made much penetration in India yet. So when you set the output for NTSC widescreen, what Elements does is compress the widescreen data into a 4:3 frame, squeezing the image horizontally. Counterintuitively, what you have to do is select NTSC normal. Then Elements does not further squeeze the widescreen data. What it then does is fit it into a 16:9 letterbox, still containing the left and right bars, within the 4:3 frame. Set the DVD to playback in widescreen mode, which expands the letterbox image to full width of the TV, though retaining the left and right bars, then zoom the TV image to full the screen, to eliminate all the bars top, bottom and sides. Worked for me, but I used a SD camcorder set to record in widescreen.
A better option might be to change the default pixel aspect ratio, which I am yet unable to effectuate. -

Some of this may be for Premiere Pro, but SHOULD also help with Premiere Elements

Set your Premiere Elements DVD output to a folder on your hard drive and then use the FREE Imgburn to burn the folder to disc for DVD... Premiere Elements does NOT burn to a folder for BluRay (send the author a PayPal donation if you like his program)
Read http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1322583 for notes on installing Imgburn WITHOUT any toolbar add-ons... Set Imgburn to use the slowest burn speed your drive and media will use... I set my burn speed to 1x and let Imgburn adjust to the actual minimum -
Finder always crashing when burning DVD-RWs
Hi. Whenever I try burning DVD-RWs, Finder is always extremely unreliable, usually crashing about 3 times per burn attempt. It might be because I am also using Finder to copy other large amounts of files while the DVD-RW is burning. But, it makes the whole burning process very hard because each time it crashes, I need to erase the disk again.
From what I remember, I have also had similar problems with CD-RWs, but not DVD-Rs and CD-Rs, but I am not totally sure because I do not use those formats very often.
Anyone else getting this problem? And, does anyone know if there is a way to solve this?
-EricHere's an update:
It seems that Finder is just being unstable with Burn folders in general. Almost every time that I try doing something in my burn folders (like, copying something into it, deleting something from it, or anything else normal like that), Finder stops responding. I have relaunched Finder about 10 times just for this one burn folder that I'm working on right now.
So, has anyone else experienced this?
-Eric -
I just bought a Mac a few weeks ago, and have had some trouble burning DVD's. I have a G5 running 10.3.9, with a Pioneer Superdrive. I try to burn an image in Disk Utility, but get the error message "The disc is reserved for exclusive use by another application". When I try just burning files using finder, it says "This disc cannot be used". I have tried DVD-R and DVD+R. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!Hi macaboo
Welcome to apple discussions. Just to add to the already excellent advice kindly provided to you by Fred Shippey;
I too have one or two suggestions:
First is to delete the plist for iDvd (but first quit the app). The plist is located in your preferences folder and looks like this (assuming the app has been launched at least once):
com.apple.iDvd.plist
Now try your iDvd project again. But if that too fails then ...
Delete encoded assets from the Advanced menu tab and then try the burn again.
That procedure looks like this. Hope this helps but if not just come on back. Good luck.

Error when burning DVD - no plugin DLLS
When burning a DVD I get an error message that says Plugin Coder error : no plugin DLLS. Why is this happening and how can I fix it?
They do but aren't cheap.
Look at SuperMediaStore.
You might be able to find them cheaper. I was just checking to see if they make them. -
Error when burning DVD RW (Error Code 0x8002006E)
Works with DVD +R, -R, CDR... but it wont burn DVD+RW for some reason
I had this problem 3 years ago when it refused to burn CDs, and I had my ODD replaced with one of these
MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857E:
Firmware Revision: ZF1E
Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)
Cache: 2048 KB
Reads DVD: Yes
CD-Write: -R, -RW
DVD-Write: -R, -R DL, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW
Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, DVD-DAO
Media: Insert media and refresh to show available burn speeds
So here I am again having the same problem - 'burning the disk failed because an unexpected error occured (Error Code 0x8002006E)
I tried both burning from Finder and disk utiilty. I tried quickly erasing the data on it, which was nothingnd when I tried to burn something it threw up this error - 'The disk can't be burned, because the devide failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media' (their bad grammer not mine)
So what is this a software problem or another faulty ODD?
I ran a hardware test recently and no problems were identified.I just tried it again using a different account, same problem. I was burning DVD+Rs already today, then I went out and bought a packet of discs from tesco DVD+RW and they wont burn no matter which way I try it. I remember having this problem with Tesco CDRs 3 years ago when I sent my macbook in for repair, but I think I have used tesco discs since thren without problems. I've had trouble on two occasions reading music CDs as well + the drive is sluggish and noisy when inserting/ejecting discs.
Finding a lot of threads on this and not really much in the way of solutions. At best I've been able to ascertain that the problem is probably software related owing to the error code.
I don't know what else to try. I hope tesco take back this stack of discs that's probably got nothing wrong with them, I doubt Apple will refund me.
This computer has just turned out to be an endless source of problems and headaches. -
Error code -43 when burning DVD
When I try to burn a DVD this pops up. Thanks to anyone that can help.

You're using the Finder to burn?
A Google search on this error code turns up a lot of
topics. Some point to the media as the culprit,
others point to Tiger, some to the drive itself.
Fuji isn't a bad brand of media, but it's not
amongst the best, either.
Generally, an older burner can use 16X media, but
would obviously only be able to burn at the maximum
speed of the drive. It's possible that your drive
doesn't recognize the media code on the disc and
refuses to burn. Sometimes a firmware update to the
drive can solve this problem.

Degraded picture when burning dvd
When I complete a project including menus and burn to a dvd I find the picture quality is degraded. I import avi, vob and wmv files into a project often from vhs or hi8 vhs tapes via a analog to digital converter. The video looks fine but when it is burned I find the picture is not to clear and often there is ghosting or double images. What causes this and how can I fix it?
Sparky
The investment in the Canopus 110 and now the firewire port consideration are major considerations with no assurances that the technology will have any impact on what you seek in your end product. Can you return these devices if they do not work for you?
Could we recap for a moment....given that you have your footage on the Premiere Elements Timeline and it comes time for the Publish+Share/Disc/DVD disc and you get your ghosting images in the play back of the DVD.
What does the playback look like with a computer player when the export is instead Publish+Share/Computer/AVI/DV NTSC Standard? I think that I would feel more comfortable knowing that information before moving further.
I have never used a firewire port so I do not have any first hand information to offer; you probably have the same type of general firewire knowledge that I have from a Google search.
We will be watching for your progress and be interested in knowing what that DV AVI standard file looks like with one of the computer players.
Thanks.

Error code 0X8002006D when burning DVD
I have been successfully burning 8X DVD-R until I bought a 16X DVD-R.
I keep getting an error message: error code 0X8002006D when I tried to burn on a 16X DVD-R.
I had no problems with the 8X DVD-R. Unfortunately, they don't sell 8X DVD-R anymore.

I have a satellite a305 with vista. I had been downloading torrents awhile back and got a nasty something because my computer went crazy. I managed to "fix" it except that the keyboard and mouse were nonresponsive. A usb mouse worked but no usb keyboard would install. Despite this, I was still able to burn dvd's.
Now, since it is unacceptable to NOT have a properly working keyboard I had to factory reset the computer. Now it all works great.
EXCEPT when I burn a dvd (dropping files to it....I haven't downloaded any 3rd party software) it starts to encode...gets to about 3.5% and then encodes super fast (usually burning a dvd takes 1 1/2 to 2 hours) and eject the disc after 30 seconds. A window pops up saying an error ocurred while burning the dvd. I am using memorex dvd-r discs. It did the same thing when I used my old disks (Sony dvd-r) but I assumed that since they were scratched a bit that must be causing an error.
I just want to make my DVD's. So frustrated!! I tried checking to see if Toshiba had a driver update I was missing since I did an out of the box reset, but they're screen to choose my laptop doesn't have my model available.
Any ideas for me?Since Toast is not an Apple product, you should probably post your question on Roxio's discussion boards:

My macbook pro can't burn DVD, both DVD-r and DVD+R DL.
I tried to use a better media (eg. verbatim) and slower speed (1X)
but the problem comes again and again.
I suspect the error may relate to the failure of "laser component" in the DVD drive
Because when I was using LiquidCD ,whcih is a DVD buring software, to burn DVDs,
the error message said that the software cannot control the strength of the laser.
Does it mean the problem relates to the failure of "laser component" in the DVD drive?
Also, I tried Hardware Test, but it said everything is fine.
Any method can help to check or solve the problem?Take it to an Apple Store or call Applecare assuming it is under warranty. Is this problem only with this software, which I have to admit I have never heard of.
Out of warranty I'd get an external burner vs. fix it since they perform better anyway. -
I am burning a DVD that has 10 slideshows. Each slideshow is treated as a chapter. I have burned DVDs in the past using this method with no problems. Now, with this project I get the following.
internal software error: .\vobulator\titleplanner\cgopgrouper.cpp, line 401This error came up again (the first time i had to rebuild), and i figured out that it had to do with a clip i had in a timeline that needed trimming, and would not butt up cleanly to the preceeding clip. i am assuming that the chapter point i inserted did not fall on a GOP, and generated this error.
when i took that clip out of the timeline and put it in it's own seperate timeline, the disc burned with no problem.
hope this help someone else skip the frustration i had.
