G5 w/MAIL issues, dropping passwords, trouble sending.

I have a G5 10.5.8 with MAIL issues. Have had the same settings for years and it has suddenly started dropping my passwords (randomly asking for passwords); blocking outgoing messages (have to send 3-5 times); All settings are the same. I have the correct ports and SSL. Nothing has changed except periodic upgrades. I've erased and reset the keychains – to no avail.
Got any ideas?

Some questions:
Which version of office were you using before? 2003?
Are the data files on a network, or on your local machine? If they are on a network, can you make a copy of one of them on your local machine and try again?
Can you open the files directly in Excel? What extension do they have (.xls, or something else?) I am wondering whether access to other file types has been left blocked on your machine but is allowed on your colleague's machine.
Are you just opening the mail merge main document and seeing this message? If so, do you see the same thing if you start with a new document and try to connect to one of these data sources?
Can you confirm that the message is about Access even though you are trying to connect to an Excel file?
(Also, office 2007 has some new stuff - that let's you specify that certain folders are "trusted" . I don't think that ever affected MailMerge but it may be as well to make sure that your documents and data sources are in trusted locations).
Also worth trying to start Word in "Safe mode" - see, e.g. http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/word-help/work-with-office-safe-modes-HP010140792.aspx

  • Ever since moving to the cloud I have been unable to use the email account on my mac. I have now resolved the incoming mail issue but can't send anything unless I go to the cloud. My mac is too old to operate Lion.

Can anyone help[ me to reset the mail setting on my mac book. Ever since my move the icloud I can't send or receive mail from my account, only from icloud?
    Many thanks.
    Ian

    Greetings Ian,
Lion is required for iCloud which is a bit of information they tell you when you do the migration from MobileMe to iCloud: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4759
Because you are using an older version of OS X, Mail is attempting to talk to the old MobileMe mail servers when iCloud is on a different set of servers.
You will have to reconfigure Mail to use the new servers.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts
Click on the MobileMe account listed on the left.
Go to Advanced and remove the check mark for "enable"
Click the plus sign at the bottom left and add a new account
Enter in your full @me.com e-mail address and then the password
Hold down the "option" key on your keyboard and click the "continue" button (this allows you to manually enter e-mail server information)
    For "account type" choose "IMAP"
Fill in the rest of the fields following http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864
Assuming all your information is present and you can send and receive you can return to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and remove the old MobileMe account.
    Hope that helps.

  • Mail issue; receiving email I send thru webbased on apple email

I have an interesting problem. Normally my mail comes thru on Apple Mail. However, when I am at work, I check my mail thru the web based site of my internet provider. Recently, my internet provider changed how they do mail. They now have a deal with google Gmail.
When I compose mail thru my the web based system it shows up on my Apple Mail Inbox. Obviously, that's a nuisance and I'd like to get rid of it. So, I call Tech support for my internet provider. They told me, "well Apple does that and mostly learn to live with it."
I can't believe that's the end of it. Can anyone help me?
    Thank you.

This is normal for Gmail -- it is Gmail, and not Apple Mail that is causing the sent message to show up in the Inbox, limited I think to when you are accessing Gmail as POP and not as IMAP. But I would have top test that.
How are you accessing your Gmail from Mail -- POP or IMAP. Since only IMAP would let you see the Sent folder on the Gmail server, then with POP, Gmail is making the sent message available on your email client, in the Inbox.

  • Mac Mail Issue: I was having trouble sending to hotmail accounts from my Earthlink account, they had me go into Mac Mail preferences and make changes, now Mac Mail doesn't work AT ALL - any help changing the settings back to correct Mac Mail settings? I c

I was having trouble sending to hotmail accounts from my Earthlink account, they had me go into Mac Mail preferences and make changes (because they claimed it was Mac Mail's fault, even though the hotmail error code said it's because Earthlink is blocked by hotmail), now Mac Mail doesn't work AT ALL - any help changing the settings back to correct Mac Mail settings? I can provide a transcript of the entire tech chat session, if that will help...

both apostrophes are used correctly, thanks
doesn't = does not (this is called a contraction)
    it's = it is
    Mac Mail's fault = possessive
any help with the actual issue? thanks!

There seems to be a few bugs with iCloud Mail at times, so send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

Apple support article, but I don't think it really addresses your problem.

  • Trouble Sending & Receiving Mail Through Exchange Account from Lion Mail

    Mid-2011 MacBook Air, 1.7 GHz Intel Core i5, OS X 10.7.2.
I'm having trouble sending and recieving mail through my Exchange Server Mail account under Lion 10.7.2 on my MacBook Air.  The MBA is new with a factory install of Lion.  On my MBP the server settings were as follows:
    Internal & External Server:  red001.mail.microsoftonline.com
When I allow Mail to configure the server settings based on my company eMail ID & Password it sets it up as follows:
    Internal Server:  10.32.16.62
    External Server:  autodiscover-red001.mail.microsoftonline.com
Part of the time this seems to work ok but frequently Mail cannot seem to connect to the Exchange Server to send/recieve.  The internet connection is fine and I can send/recieve from my iCloud mail account with no problems.
I recently "upgraded" from mobileMe to iCloud, I do not seem to have any of these issues on my iPad2 or iPhone4, both of which are running iOS5.
    Anyone have any ideas?

This started happening with me a week ago.   Don't know if it's connected to the latest update or not.  I'm running 10.6.7.  I can get Exchange mail (sometimes) on my iPhone 3GS, but it's stopped on my MBP and iPad2.  Neither can I log onto the company's web mail site from home ("can't reach server" error message). Weird and very frustrating.  IT guy at work says there is nothing wrong at his end.

Apple Mail isn't going to change the format of any of your attachments. it isn't going to corrupt them either.
Exchange is a transport protocol and server. The issue you describe is not related to Exchange.
There are many different versions of Microsoft Outlook in use and they all have e-mail bugs. Different versions have different bugs. Some Apple Mail hack to get around a bug in Outlook 2003 may cause the same message to be problematic in Outlook 2000. Fix them both and another issue will cause trouble in Outlook 2007. You can't fix this. Apple can't fix this. Microsoft can and has but that is irrelevant if your recipients are using older versions.
One specific problem is that Apple Mail always sends image attachments inline, as images, not as iconized files. You can change this with Attachment Tamer. Just be aware that use of this software will break other things such as Stationery. E-mail is just a disaster. To date, no one outside of Apple has ever implemented the e-mail standards from 1993. Apple has continually changed its e-mail software to be more compatible with the de-facto standards that Netscape and Microsoft have unilaterally defined and people documented as "standards" after the fact. The e-mail messages that Apple Mail sends are 100% correct and do not violate any of the original standards from 1993 or the Microsoft/Netscape modifications. The problem is entirely bugs and limitations in various versions of Outlook.

  • Trouble sending e-mail

I have had trouble sending e-mails intermittently for about 6 months.  I use Apple's Mail app, and have 2 accounts - iCloud and gmail. Occasionally, I get the e-mail with a drop-down menu saying the e-mail did not go through and giving me the option to try a different server or to try later.  It appears that Mail is trying to send from the GMail server. How can I fix this, and also make iCloud the server to send from vs. the GMail server?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Randy P

Since you are syncing with iCloud why don't you try to delete the Gmail account and try to send your mac mail. If mail goes through okay once the Gmail is gone then you can add Gmail back and all of your mail will also come back. See if that works for you.

  • Is anyone else having trouble sending mail?  I have a MobileMe subscription - not sure whether that is the problem.  The Port assigned to my mail account on my iMac has a different number for the one recommended by Apple, but I hesitate to change it.

Is anyone else having trouble sending mail on an iMac running 10.6.8.  I get a messsage that the server can't be accessed.  Apple help suggests using a different port from the one that was originally set.  I have a Mobile Me account.  Any suggestions?

I had major issues with the iPhone 4s battery, however it’s resolved.
The tech who set the phone up at the Apple store did so with little training.
if you have a mobile me account. First go and move all your data to the cloud by going on your computer and logging in at me.com/move. The cloud has replaced mobile me, so there is no need for those two accounts
Also make sure that for any of your email accounts you set them up to fetch, not push. My tech person set them all to have the email servers push data to the phone. The new iphone4s antenna is extremely strong so it will continually try to access stuff that is pushed–***** a lot of battery life doing this. It makes it worse if you have exchange 2010 accounts. Something about changes made to exchange really suck battery life from devices that access such accounts.

  • IPhone and Cox e-mail issues -- sender address not valid?

I have had an iPhone for several years and have never had a problem with e-mail and Cox internet. However, I transferred my service this week to a new address - same account information - and now my e-mail is not working correctly. Cox told me to reset my password via Webmail, and I did. I also followed the information here as to the correct set up for mail accounts. I can now receive e-mail,but I can't send e-mail. I receive the message - the sender address was invalid- and my outbox is full of unsent messages. I have everything in place according to the online articles posted here and on the Cox site. Can anyone help me correct this issue? Thanks!

What are you using for an SMTP server?
Go to Settings, Mail Contacts Calendar, Your mail account, Account Info, Advanced and look for Outgoing Mail Server.
If Cox does not permit AUTH-SMTP, set it to AT&T's mail server. Even if Cox does permit AUTH-SMTP, try using the AT&T mail server.
If that doesn't work, try resetting the phone.

  • Occasional trouble sending emails with Mail

When I try to send emails through Mail, about 1 in 5 messages seems to have trouble sending. What happens is, I click send, the sending icon has a little activity sign for way longer than it takes to normally send an email, and ultimately a few minutes later I get this error message:
"Cannot send message using the server
    smtpout:secureserver.net:(myid@mydomainname).com
The connection to the server “smtpout.secureserver.net” on port 80 timed out.
Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be delivered.
    Sending from: me <(myid@mydomainname).com>"
Normally I then click "edit message" and then try sending, and it usually goes through fine. This started about a year ago, and I have just been dealing with it, but now I'm realizing that the problem may result in multiple versions of the same email being sent, so I'd like to get it solved!
It seems to happen with yahoo and comcast, etc., emails on the receiving end.

this always happens on my desktop iMac (the usual computer I use), which is connected to the internet via my Airport/ wirelessly. My ISP hasn't changed, and I haven't heard from them about any issues... and I don't seem to have trouble connecting to the internet otherwise - it's just when sending through Mail, and just with certain addresses (as far as I can tell).
For example, occasionally I'll send an email through my webmail (same email address, same ISP, same computer, but via the webmail site on my internet browser), and I've never had trouble with the outgoing mail there. If I use my husband's Windows-based laptops or PC (on the same ISP, same cable modem, connected either wirelessly or wired) and do webmail, no problem there either
This leads me to believe that it's the way that Mail is trying to send, trying to connect to the outgoing server or something? Especially because the message apparently IS sending - maybe Mail is just not getting confirmation back from the recipient's server? I can't rely on the message having gone through, but it seems most recipients are ultimately receiving the message twice - when it comes back to me with an error, and again when I successfully send.
Can I try reconfiguring my outgoing message Mail settings? I don't know what other settings to try...

  • Trouble sending mail through Gmail with Apple Mail

I am having trouble sending email through Gmail using Apple Mail.  I have entered the correct password thorugh the two step verification from Google and the Connection Doctor says that I'm connected to the IMAP and SMTP, but I get the error that my email address was rejected by the gmail server.
    Any thoughts?

Google has instruction posted for setting up your iPhone with gmail. I followed these directions and it worked perfectly.

  • Trouble sending attachments with Mail 7.0

I just upgraded to Mavericks and I just started using Mail 7.0 to manage my email (switching from Outlook 2011 for Mac).  I'm using an early 2008 Mac Pro.  I'm having trouble sending emails with attachments through Mail 7.0.  Any attachment regardless of file type or size doesn't go through on the first try.  I compose my email, hit send and then after sitting in the outbox for a minute or two I get this error message...
I then click on "Try With Selected Server" and sometimes it will send after that and sometimes it won't.  File size doesn't seem to matter.  I switch back to Outlook and all attachments send just fine.  Outlook has its own bugs (that's why I'm trying to switch to Mail) so I'm trying to make Mail my email app.
Any help is greatly appreciated.  Let me know if you need any more info.  NOTE: I'm not an IT person so please try to dumb down your answers to a first grade level.

I am also having the exact same issue only with exchange emails that have attachments... funny thing is the problem only persistis on my MacBook not on my Imac.  Both running Mavericks, set up identically and both totally up to date.   I will on occacsion get the can't send mail error on the imac but after I click try again it goes through... on the MacBook I'm not so lucky and end up having to email people dropbox links to every darn file I want to send from my laptop.  Talk about a pain in the butt.  Apple please address and fix.
btw the unchecking auto discovery trick didn't make any difference for me
    thanks for bringin this up

  • TS3276 Trouble Sending Email Through Mail

I'm havng trouble sending email through Mail on MacBook Pro.  I'm using Lion and everything is up to date.  I receive email just fine, but when I go to reply the little wheel thingy just spins and spins, and eventually my emails get sent to the Out box and are never sent.  It's an AT&T email account that I'm using.  If I go through Yahoo, I can send the emails just fine, but I'd much rather use Mail.  Any ideas on what to do?  This just started.
    Debby J

You have a setting wrong OR. I also use ATT/Yahoo mail for some of my email accounts and earlier this morning the ATT/Yahoo email system was down.
If that is not the problem, ATT/Yahoo system down, then it is simply you do not have the SMTP settings correct.
The server address is smtp.att.yahoo.com and you must have your complete email address, [email protected]/net where attdomian is bellsouth/att/southwest(not sure if that is one of them)/whatever DOT com or net for your domain. It has to included what comes after the @ sign. Some email programs strip what comes after the @ sign out of your logon info. And of course you must have the correct password entered.
