G5 with Epson R1800

Hi,
I have 10.4 OS with a Epson R1800 connected via USB. However when I try to print from illustrator an error comes up with Media Out or not loaded correctly.
I also have a ibook connected via printer sharing and when I print the ibook using Illustrator it works ok.
ANy ideas?

When you connect your Mac to another Mac that is sharing a printer (be it local or networked) you are connecting to the spool queue provided by the other Mac, or in other words 'the path to the shared network resource'. This is computer term - nothing to do with Windows...
If you see the options when you connect directly (I think it would be USB - never heard of a printer connecting via FireWire) then as you say the driver is correctly installed locally. If they fail to appear after connecting to the share via the Printer Browser/Default Browser window, then it will have something to do with your local setup.
Basically what you want to do is use your local driver to print via the shared connection. So you have to override the default setup. First of all you have to ensure your local install of the driver is called the same as the shared printer? This will have an impact if it isn't as your Mac doesn't think it has the correct driver installed. Also, if you added the shared printer before you installed the local driver, then OS X will have configured the driver and assume these 'defaults' when you try to create a new printer connection. So try deleting both the shared and local R1800 printer from the Printer List, restart your Mac, and then add the local printer first. Once this has been setup then try adding the shared printer. If this doesn't work, you would have to 'Reset the Printing System' and install the printer again. However note that this will delete all printers from the Mac so only do it as a last resort and if you are prepared to add all the printers again.
Also, do you have the Mac's communicating via TCP/IP or is only AppleTalk enabled? If it's the latter, then I have seen this impact the availability of the extra driver options.

  • Pausing Problem with Epson R1800

After searching this as well as many other forums, I have yet to come up with a fix for this problem.
I am running Leopard (10.5.6) on my iMac. I am connected to the office printer (Epson R1800) via Bonjour. I had a problem with printing a couple months back and fixed the issue by installing the update for Ambrosia Software. Everything since then has been working fine, until now that is.
Every time I try to print something it connects to the printer then pauses. I hit "Resume Printer" yet it just keeps pausing. I've uninstalled the printer drivers, repaired the disk permissions, and reinstalled the drivers using the most updated version. Even after the fresh install I am still getting the pausing problem. Thinking that it was just my computer, I went to use a co-workers computer (iMac w/ 10.5.6) to try and print the document. The co-worker's computer is directly connected to the R1800 via USB yet when trying to print I still get the pausing problem. I've tried printing with Photoshop CS4 as well as Preview and get the same problem.
Has anyone experienced this problem? If so, have you found a fix for it? I've been racking my brain and just cannot come up with a solution.

I have two xerox CP245s doing exactly the same thing. I can print to our color HP and our color xerox, just not the black & white ones. They have worked fine for two years and just started this pausing business yesterday.

  • Dark prints with Epson R1800

Having upgraded to Snow Leopard, when I print to my Epson R1800 from Lightroom or Photoshop, the prints are extremely dark, and a bit oversaturated. I am printing by choosing a paper profile, and turning off color management in the driver. This worked perfectly before Snow Leopard. If I tell Lightroom to let the printer manage color, then use Epson Vivid with Gamma 1.8, the print is reasonably good. But if I can not choose a profile, I will be limited to only Epson papers.
The latest Apple update for Epson print drivers only contains the Gutenprint driver for the R1800, so I downloaded the latest Snow Leopard drivers directly from Epson. I believe I thoroughly removed the existing drivers before installing.
I am seeing some discussion about this here and other places online, but no solutions that work so far.

Wait a second, I just realized something very important. If you go to the Epson Drivers page for the R1800...
    http://tinyurl.com/2gp4g9
The first link there is a Drivers and Utilities Combo Package for MacOS 10.6 (i.e. Snow Leopard). But the driver that this combo package actually contains is version 6.12, which as listed further down the page, is from 12/18/2007.
So in other words, there really is no Snow Leopard support for the R1800.
Also, the R1800 is not in the product list on the Epson Snow Leopard page...

  • Major printing problem with Epson R1800 and 1.5

I have an Epson R1800 and Aperture 1.5
Any page that I try to print borderless has a quarter inch border around 2 edges. I've tried to calibrate but the two borders are way outside what the calibrate option can deal with.
This happens on all paper sizes. There is no option that I can find anywhere to fix this.
Every other app prints just fine, including iPhoto. It seems limited to Aperture.
    Thanks, Bill

Behold the power of asking a question.
    It fixed itself.
I have no idea how or why. But after 3 hours of working, it fixed itself in less than 5 minutes.
    Thanks, Bill

  • Color Settings with Epson R1800

    Hi
I am using an Epson R1800 with Photoshop CS5 and Lion. When trying to print I do not have the color management option and under Print Settings Color: and Color Settings: both are greyed out. This problem does not occur with my Epson D68 or when using Numbers and TextEdit.
Any advice would be much apreciated.
    Peter

Every printer has different drivers and different functionality. You can either continue looking through the printers print dialogue to see if it supports the feature you're looking for or you will need to put in a feature request to Epson and hope on later revisions they include it.  Because the print drivers are supplied to Apple from the printer manufacturer Apple has little control over the drivers.

  • Printing with epson r1800

When I attempt to print an image from Aperture with my Epson R1800 why am I presented with two sets of print options? One is built into Aperture which I dully wade through. Then when I press the print button I move on to Epson's options, which for the most part undo or ignore those set up in Aperture.
This is very odd, anyone know how to turn off the Epson options?

  • Paper preferences with Epson R1800

I am trying to print on glossy paper with iPhoto 08. I cannot find that option. I can only find Matte or Fine Matte.
    Any suggestions.

Use Print Center Utility to delete the current driver. Check Epson's site for the latest driver for the 1800 printer. Download and install the driver. Then use Print Center Utility to make sure you've got it installed fully. There may be two drivers that PCU can install, one regular and one for borderless. It's that way for my Epson printer.
That might be what's needed to get those menu options back.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Wireless print server that works with Macs and Epson R1800?

    Hi,
I'm looking to buy a wireless print server, which I could use as if the printer was connected directly to my Mac. So basically, it just needs to have printing over IP port (like port 9100 on HP JetDirect) and drivers for Mac OS X (or ideally, no special drivers needed at all). Devices that do sharing of the printer only over LPD (older Unix), SMB (Windows), IPP (Cups / newer Unix) or similar protocols is not what I'm looking for here.
The reason why LPD, SMB and IPP are not an option is that I'll need utilities such as Epson Printer Utility to work over the network too.
It looks like Linksys, Belkin and some other have products that allow access to the printer over port 9100 (standard HP JetDiret's port) as if the printer was connected directly to the computer. However, for the most part I was able to find only success stories for Windows users.
Windows has standard driver that allows connection to the printer to be easily switched from USB port to network port. Does OS X comes standard with that feature, or is the special driver needed?
Most importantly, has anybody had success with printing from Mac through wireless print server (any brand) to Epson R1800? Did the Epson Print Utility (checking the ink levels, checking and cleaning the head, etc) work? Any special drivers needed?
    Thanks

direwolf has hit the nail on the head - the Epson driver won't work for IP printing. The Epson driver is a Carbon driver, where they build the comm protocols into the driver instead of enabling use of the standard protocols on OS X (that are part of the CUPS system). You'll need a CUPS driver to use the standard network protocol(s). The printfab driver is a CUPS driver.
Exception - the Apple Extreme/Express/etc print servers have firmware that make them work like Macs - Mac-to-Mac sharing works with USB-only drivers! I hesitate to recommend the Extreme/Express, because Apple can't seem to get all the kinks out.

  • Printing Problems with CS3 and Epson R1800

Recently upgraded to CS3 and have now lost most printing options for Epson Stylus Photo R1800. Had no problems with CS2 running in Leopard. Anyone know what has happened?

    >"Unfortunately then I'd have to say all bets are off. The only true test is to print with the standard materials that Epson has designed their printer for. Only if that works well should you be trying third-party materials. For example, third-party inks in general are of poorer quality, are inconsistent, clog more, and in the long run, do not save you anywhere the amount of money they advertise over the genuine Epson products."
Getting very nice results with an R1800, Inkjetfly CIS, and Red River paper. The R1800 has never had Epson ink run through it and has no abnormal clogging problems. In fact, clogs are rare.
Getting near perfect matches to the monitor with both Colorvision and x-rite calibrating/profiling equipment. The printer stays on 24-7 so the only ink used, other than printing, is a periodic nozzle check. I am not alone in this, so blanket statements like the above are specious at best.
And no, I don't sell prints for big bux, so whether they are going to last a hundred years is not a concern. Besides, until someone is around long enough to verify those claims, the jury is out. I've got color prints from the wet days that are fading after 20+ years. Third party inks are not necessarily lower quality than OEM. One of the reasons for the development of high quality third party inks was the dissatisfaction of B&W and fine art printers with the OEM products.
Of course the cheap refilled/knockoff carts being hawked on ebay and the like are a different story.

  • Printing to my epson R1800 with Lightroom2.4 and to Photoshop CS4

I use to be able to print from my lightroom 2 to my epson R1800, with all my ICC profiles, but after I upgraded to Lightroom2.4 and to Photoshop CS4 I can't seem to print from that app. Anyone have a clue.. I've spoken to tech support for hours on end and still I can't print. I was able to print once directly from photoshop, but after doing everything that was told to me by tech support, now even printing from CS4 is a dead end.

    John,
Thanks for responding, I'm still using Tiger @ OS10.4 and my printer
drivers are up to the latest drivers. I've trashed both LR and Epson
and reinstalled both... I haven't dumped the preferences, so that's
    worth a try
    Thanks Again

  • Can't print contact sheets on Epson R1800 with LR3

I upgraded to Lightroom 3 a few months ago and can't print contact sheets on 13x16" sheets using my Epson R1800 (it worked fine before in Lightroom 2).
I have this problem on both an iMac and Macbook Pro, both running the latest version of Snow Leopard.
I've tried re-installing the drivers, open the program in 32 bit mode and no joy.
I can use the Print Module no problem and can print 4x6 single prints or even do a 2x2 contact sheet on a 4x6. I can also print a 7x7 contact sheet on a 13x19" sheet using draft mode, but if I try to use profiles (the images are way too dark in draft mode), LR will spend a few minutes rendering the images, while this is happening the job appears in the Epson utility, but once LR has finished rendering, the progress bar disappears along with the job in the Epson utility and nothing happens?
    Anybody experience something similar?
    Thanks in advance for replying.
    John

Print Drivers on OS X aren't the same as on Windows...
You can't use an Epson driver made for USB-only Epson printers, because they wrote the driver to only work via USB. To use the CUPS Windows printer protocol, you need a driver written to use CUPS. The Gutenprint drivers Apple included in OS X are CUPS drivers. An update is here:
    http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php
If your specific model isn't yet supported, try other model drivers.

  • Page Setup Changes For iCal / Epson R1800

    Hi
I am trying to print from iCal - using custom A4 paper sizes so that I can hole-punch the paper in an appropriate place. My problem is that when I try to print from iCal, the Page Setup is set at 'Roll Paper'. I can't change that setting and when I try to print on my Epson R1800 A4 sheet-fed paper, it keeps on coming up with paper not loaded error - I'm assuming because it's looking for Roll Paper. I'm getting so worked up about this I fear for the safety of my printer !!!
    Any help would be welcomed.

after you have changed the print setting in the .rpt itself and if you are still experiencing the same behaviour:
    1) first, try to see if just the .rpt itself is changing...i.e. send the report with saved data to someone that is experiencing the issue that also has crystal reports installed. if it is still happening in the crystal reports designer itself, then it is an issue for this forum.
    2) if it is only happening in the web application, then you will want to repost to the appropriate sdk forum.

  • Epson r1800 - 'Media not loaded correctly'

    Hello All,
I'm having a lot of trouble with my Epson r1800 - I've searched around the internet a bit for solutions but so far haven't come up with anything. To start, I have updated the epson drivers and also tried Gutenprint drivers.
Basically, no matter what I try (including the standard nozzle checks etc...) I always get the message 'Media not loaded correctly'. Occasionally pages will feed through the printer, but they are blank and regardless I get the media not loaded correctly message. Does anybody have a workaround or solutions for this?
    Thanks!
    Gavin

Try using the following directions from a message from Epson. This corrected my problems with an Epson R1800 and Leopard.
Thank you for taking the time to contact Epson. It is my pleasure to
    respond to your inquiry.
If your output is faint or if the driver settings and/or features are
missing, your system may have automatically added the printer using the
Gutenprint driver. Many Epson drivers are provided with Leopard but the
driver for your printer needs to be downloaded from the Epson website.
Determine Which Driver is Currently Being Used
    1. Click on the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the Finder and open
    System Preferences.
    2. In the System Preferences window, click on Print & Fax.
    3. In the list of printers on the left side of the Print & Fax window,
click once on your Epson printer to select it.
    4. Check the name of the driver being used; it is displayed in the center
of the Print & Fax window next to “Kind”.
    5. If the driver name displayed next to “Kind” is Gutenprint, the incorrect
driver is being used. Follow the steps in the next section to select the
    correct driver.
    Selecting the Correct Driver
    1. Turn off the printer.
    2. Delete the print queue and remove the printer from Print & Fax by
clicking on the minus button under the list of printers. Click OK to
    confirm the removal.
    3. Go to the Epson support website (www.epson.com/support).
    4. Select your product model and download the driver for OS X 10.5 Leopard
    operating system.
    5. Double-click the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions
    to install the printer driver.
    6. Click on the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the Finder and open
    System Preferences.

  • Crash in LR2.5 printing to Epson R1800

I'm running LR 2.5 on a Mac - OS X 10.5.8 - and trying to print to my Epson R1800 on Firewire interface.   When I select that printer from LR either in Print Settings or Print (even before hitting the print button), I get an immediate LR crash.  Printing to the R1800 from CS2 works fine, and printing from LR to another (non Firewire) printer also works fine.   I've downloaded and installed the latest drivers from Epson (no joy), have reloaded LR 2.5 after deleting LR prefs and application support files (also no joy), and have backed up to LR 2.4 with the same results.
When I just tried switching the R1800 to a USB connection and reinstalling the printer as a USB, LR got even more unhappy and crashed right when I clicked on the Print Settings button in LR.
I'd appreciate any thoughts about new things to try.   Guess I can always keep exporting to CS2 and printing from there, but that shouldn't be necessary.
    Thanks,

You probably have a corrupt print template. To check this you should temporarily remove the templates (i.e. move them out of the Lightroom presets folder). You can do this fairly easily from Lightroom Preferences panel. Open Preferences and choose Presets tab, then click on button labelled Show Lightroom Presets folder... This should open an OS window with the Lightroom folder already highlighted. Open the LIghtroom folder, locate the Print Templates subfolder, then drag it out to your desktop. Restart Lightroom, which will automatically recreate the folder and default presets. Now click on the Print Setting button to check if crashes are stopped. Assuming above fixes the problem you can then drag the print templates back into the newly created Lightroom folder one at a time. Obvioulsy, you will need retry Lightroom Print Settings after each.
