G5 with no Classic folder?

I bought a used 1.6 G5 about 6 months ago and have moved 2000 miles. Just last week I found a need to run Classic and found there is none installed. I don't have access to original install disc but I do have tiger. How can I install Classic system 9?

Hi, rhaham -
Welcome to Apple's Discussions.
The only source for a full-install of Classic for your G5 is from the original disks that shipped with it. The retail versions of OSX, 10.2 and later, do not include the ability to install Classic.
It is common practice that the original disks go with a machine when it is sold as used; you might contact the seller and see if you can get them. Otherwise, you may be able to get replacements from Apple's Customer Support, by phone -
http://www.apple.com/contact/phone_contacts.html
If you do not need a complete install of Classic, you can copy the System Folder from a retail OS 9 Install CD, v. 9.1 or later; v. 9.2.1 would be best. Note, though - the System Folder on an OS 9 Install CD has a very limited assortment of control panels and extensions; some services will not be available when using that.
You can also copy an OS 9.1 or later System Folder from another Mac; such would have a more complete assortment of control panels and extensions. However, if such a System Folder is not fully healthy at the source, it will not be healthy when copied.
Your best choice is to acquire the original disks that came with it, or a replacement set.

Is iTunes12.0.1.26 compatible with iPod Classic model mc293 version 2.0.4?
I cannot get this iPod to accept any songs from the latest iTunes version.  When I connect it to my MacBook the message "Connected Eject before disconnecting" shows and stays there.  An on-screen message appears on the MacBook which says:
"iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod"
I have done these things but they make no difference.

    Do a clean (re-)install:
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Firefox 3.6.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Do not remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Classic folder not found BUT it os9 appears in startup disk list and boots!

I installed my friends system from scratch it is an old imac G3 with latest firmware updates..
In the end the only way to get it installed the way they wanted was to install tiger and drag the system folder over from the old install
Now what happens when booted to OSX 10.4 "Classic" in the system preferences looks for a classic folder but cant find one.... yet if I go toe system preferences startup There are both the OS X starup and OS 9 Startup disk listed there and if selected OS 9.22 boots and runs fine.
It is listed under startup as Mac OS Z1 - 9.22 Machintosh HD
I have not run software update on Tiger yet so it is probably 10.4.3 or 4 maybe this would help ?
Any ideas why it wont see this as haveing Classic on the system ? It seems strange that Apple wont allow you to point to the correct folder when it exists and boots from it fine.
Interesting enough when I plugged in my external firewire drive (which is where i copied the OS 9.22 system folder across from) and run the system preferences and classic setup it looks and sees the external drive folder as ok to run for classic !
Naturally I have unmounted this as it is my drive and not my friends
    thanks for your help

    when I open
Classic Preferences, the system looks for eligible
System Folders and lists the ones it has found. On my
Tibook, there is normally only one, and that one is
selected by default. In order to deselect it, I would
have to connect my external drive, which contains (on
separate partitions) three other System Folders
suitable for use as Classic. I would then expect to
be able to choose manually from among the four
eligible candidates, even if one of them were
    initially selected by default.
Are you saying that the Classic pane of Sys Prefs on
your computer fails to list any System Folder at all,
even though the one that boots your computer into OS
9.2.2 is present and ready for duty? If so, that is
    strange indeed.
mine works exactly the same as your then.
and yes you are also right that it fails to list any system folder as all

after reinstalling my os from box to 10.4.9, when I tried to install Appleworks, I discovered that I do not have a Classic folder anymore.
    ??????????????????

WRT AppleWorks, this is the Read Me doc for 6.2.9:
Important Information About the AppleWorks 6.2.9 Updater
    • This update replaces any North American English version of AppleWorks for Macintosh 6.0 or later with the North American English version of AppleWorks 6.2.9 for Mac OS X 10.1 or later and AppleWorks 6.2.8 for Mac OS 8.1 through 9.x. (Both new versions of AppleWorks have the same features but are optimized for the appropriate operating system.)
    • If you previously installed AppleWorks 6 on your computer using the Custom Install option, and chose only the "AppleWorks 6 application" but omitted the writing tools, run the installer again, choose Custom Install, and choose to install the writing tools. This will ensure that the AppleWorks 6.2.9 Updater performs correctly.
AppleWorks 6.2.9 (for Mac OS 10.1 or later) provides improvements to printing, the presentation module and the spreadsheet module. This version provides support for web based templates and clip-art on networks using WebDoubler proxy servers, and also adds support for mice with scroll wheels.

Everytime I open Safari on my MacBook Pro a pop-up window from my Finder menu, with the Applications highlighted on the left in the favorites column with the Resources folder highlighted comes up and locks my Safari page until I manually close the Resources window then I have to refresh the internet search address line at the top of Safari. Can someone tell me how to stop this. It started after a software upgrade. It didn’t do that before. Thank you.

A few thoughts for diagnosis/testing purposes:
Have you recently run the disk utility and repaired HD and permissions? If not do so.
Boot into the Safe mode - hold down shift key on boot - and see if the problems are still there. Some functions won't work but see if anything odd happens.
Check your startup items. Get rid of them temporarily.
Create a new user account and see if the problems occur with the new account.
Lastly, be sure your backup is up-to-date.

  • Problems in compatibility of iPod radio remote with iPod classic 160 GB

    Hi all,
I have just bought a iPod classic 160 GB and want to buy a iPod radio remote as well. However, after I have done my research, I find the radio remote is not compatible with iPod classic perfectly…
Do you think it is a good idea for me to wait a new radio remote (maybe) or later Apple will release update?
    Thanks

I use my Radio Remote with a Classic; it does everything that it had with my 5G-Video EXCEPT it will not allow me to set radio stations, either with the Radio Remote's control or the iPod's control.
I have spoken with an iPod specialist (Apple Care) and according to him Apple has acknowleged less than 100% compatibility/functionality with the Radio Remote and the Classics. One of the reasons, he stated, was that several 5G-Video iPods were "getting fried" when the Remote was not fully connected to the docking-port. So Apple has decided to reengineer the port [for better a connection, I gather]. What puzzles me the most about the new generation of iPods is why they were rolled out without warning customers that their Car-Charger, Video Player, dock, AV Cable, or APPLE'S OWN Remote will not play nice with each other!
This go around, it's find out the hard way.

  • PLEASE HELP. my 2007 macbook will not accept the reinstall disc mac os x 10.4.9 after i erased everything.  the screen is grey with a flashing folder with ? on it.  what can i do to fix it?

i erased everything from my macbook and try to reinstall the MAC os x 10.4.9.  but now when i restart my computer the screen is grey with a file folder marked with a "?" flashing.  when the dics is already already inserted and i restart it, regardless if i hold down the "c" or "d" key with rebooting, the disc is automatically ejected and then it goes back to the grey screen with the flashing "? folder".
if i was to try and reinstall the "for mac computers" os x 10.5.4 the computer will load the disc and bring me to the language select menu but as soon as i click the "next" button it tells me that the software is not able to be installed on that computer.
i have no clue what to do.  the computer was working COMPLETELY fine before i erased something.

Yikes, what happens or shows if you hold the Option or alt key on bootup?
The 10.5.4 Disc at least sounds like a Gray Machine specific Disk, or wrong Partition Scheme!???
Does that one allow Disk Utility to run?

  • I can't log in to my computer- when it turns on it has a white/gray screen with a flashing folder with a question mark in it.  What does this mean and how can I get it to stop to log in?

    Hi
I dropped my macbook yesterday and it turned itself off. When I tried to turn it back on all I got was a white/gray screen with a flash folder with a ? in the middle of it?  What does this mean and how do I get it to stop so I can log onto my laptop?

    Deev
Normally the question mark on the gray screen means it can't find the operating system. Have you tried booting up from the installation DVD? Do that, and when you come to the screen where it wants to begin a system installation you'll notice in the menubar where it say's utilites. Click on that and choose disk utility. from there choose your disk and try to verify and repair the disk. If you can you may want to also try and new install of the system. I don't know how much critical data you have, but reinstalling is an option. did you purcahse you from an Apple store? If you did you may want them to look at it. Hope this helps.

  • TV Out with Ipod Classic

Does it absolutely need the apple cable and dock, like the Apple Universal Dock, because i bought one the dynex and when i put my tv out On, and i play a video or a movies, it says TV Out Enabled...Please Connect Video Accessory, so do i have to bring my dynex to the store to change for the apple one?

sadly yes. there are a few docking stations that seem to work, but I heard of no tv cable that works with the classic except the one from apple.
but note this: as far as I know (not completly sure, but pretty much) instead of the tv cable you can use the apple docking station and just connect an s-video-cable to it. since the docking station costs exactly as much as the cable, maybe you prefer this.

I just dled Itunes onto my new laptop, when I synced with my music folder, all of the songs were duplicate on song list, what do I do? What did I do wrong, and where do I find a manual to learn how to use ITunes???

" When I did this, my library showed all the music I have "purchased" from itunes but did not have the music that I downloaded a long time ago through itunes from my old CDs."
    Correct.
" How can I get that music to show up in my library now on my new computer?  "
Copy it from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer.
The sync is one way - computer to ipod.

  • My Mac book pro turns on with a grey screen with a blinking folder   question mark. Help!

My bag carrying my computer fell on the ground as I was entering a cab. I checked my computer immediately for damage and it seemed to work fine. After about an two hours, I went back to my computer and it had a black screen and was getting very hot. I held the power button down and it restarted only to have a grey screen with a blinking folder + a question mark. I've already looked on the forums, and I don't have the CDs with me as I am traveling, and I don't have much backed up.
    I appreciate any advice provided.
    Thank you!

I'm not sure how to do this, but what I want to do is put this file in C:/My Documents, but I need to be able to verify that C://My Documents exists, if not put it in C:/Program Files.
Can any one help me out?

Need some help with putting a folder in users directoryI recomend using System.getProperty( "user.home" ) not a hard-coded value.
    This will use the users home folder ( C:\My Documents ) on Win9X (I guess), C:\Documents and Settings\<current user> on Win2K +, and ~ on Unix-a-likes.
