G5 won't take new installation disc

Hi everyone,
I was recently sold a Powermac G5 with Leopard installed, but with no disc included. Go figure, I have been running into some problems with the computer locking up on me. Anyway, I searched the problem in the forums and found people that were having the same issue and they told me to buy a new installation disc, so I went ahead and bought Leopard for a whopping $130 bucks. I just put the disc in the computer, but it keeps spitting it out. Any reason why it's not taking?? It's really frustrating! Thanks.

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
You sure you got Leopard, and a G5?
G5s look like
whereas Mac Pros look like
Leopard installer looks like * and Snow Leopard like * and neither says Upgrade, Dropin, or OEM.
Never buy a used machine without the original discs, they are not the seller's to keep.

  • Won't boot from installation disc

I'd like to reinstall Tiger. The installation disc mounts on the desktop and opens. I click on the install icon to restart the computer and boot from the disc and the computer crashes. I have two Tiger installation discs, crashes using either one. I tried it with a Panther installation disc but same thing--crashes. I've tried booting by holding down the C key--crashes. The drive burns successfully and reads successfully. There was no hint of a problem before this.

    Hi-
If the proper version of the OS software, have you disconnected any third party peripherals, especially USB devices?
Could also try a Single user boot (command + s on startup) , and run fsck to see if there is something amiss on the harddrive.
One other thought, from Safe Mode boot (hold "Shift" on startup), try the OS X install disc.
Yet, one more thought, a simple PRAM reset may be all that's needed.

  • IMac won't recognize 2nd installation disc for Creative Suite 5.5 Prod Premium

Can someone help me? I bought Adobe Creative Suites 5.5 ProductionPremuim and I'm having trouble. I entered the serial number and product code and all that. It starts to install, and the first Application 1 disc installs just fine, but when it spits it out and asks for the Application 2 disc, it doesn't recognize it and keeps asking me to put in the Application 2 disc.
I know it is not a hardware iMac issue because the drive was just replaced last month, and other CDs work just fine. Does anyone know what the problem might be? Do I need a new Application 2 disc, or am I doing something wrong? Or should I just bypass it altogether and try to download it using the same serial number?
    Thanks.
    Ben

copy both disc's contents to a desktop folder and install from there.

  • DVD/CD-RW Drive (E) won't read new DVD disc

My HP Pavillion laptop won't read/format a new DVD+R disc.  It will play CD's that I have formatted previously, however, now happens.  I have tried other new ones and I get the same results. Careful, deliberate solution stps will be greatly appreciated.

Some of the faster DVD media is not readable by older DVD drives. They use newer materials for faster reading and writing. Try to buy a slower DVD media. I believe 4x was the slowest DVD, then 5,6,8,10,12,14 etc. Do you have any DVD that it can read? Look on the inside hole and you will see the speed of the DVD material printed on it.

  • ITunes won't recognize new Coldplay disc, MacBook Pro spits disc out

Anybody else? It won't even come up in the finder. It seems like it tries to read it and then it ejects.

Okay, found out the issue. It's about LAST YEAR's CD, but I can only imagine they made the new one much much worse

    Coldplay Can't Play
Band's New CD Comes with Onerous Limitations
    By Martin H. Bosworth
    ConsumerAffairs.com
    January 4, 2006
Pop behemoths Coldplay have scored great success with melancholy hits like "Yellow" and "Shiver." But now the British foursome has something new to sing the blues about -- namely the fact that their newest CD, "X&Y," comes with so many restrictions on its usage as to be, in one irate fan's words, "virtually unplayable."
Coldplay's label, Capitol Records, has installed extremely restrictive digital rights management (DRM) on the CD.
Although the disc packaging does clearly state that the CD is copy-protected, the buyer doesn't know exactly what the restrictions are until they've bought the CD and opened it up. Worse, the restrictions prevent the CD from being returned or exchanged unless there is a "manufacturing defect."
The DRM restrictions prevent the CD from being played in "some" CD players, CD-recordable or rewritable hard drives, DVD players, game consoles such as a Playstation or Xbox, and prevents any attempt to copy the CD or "rip" the tracks to MP3 format. The CD's restrictions also prevent it from being played or copied on Macintosh PCs.
Capitol is a subsidiary of the EMI Music Group, which clearly has not learned any lessons from Sony BMG and their ongoing fiasco with spyware-infested CD's.
Sony recently reached a tentative settlement in one of several lawsuits accusing it of surreptitiously installing software on users' computers that can cripple them.
Although several enterprising listeners have found ways to copy or rip the Coldplay CD to their music libraries, by doing so they can face potential lawsuits, fines, and even imprisonment for violation of copyright. The ongoing battles over copyright protection of music versus the "fair use" doctrine have sparked increasingly hostile moves by record companies and fans alike.
Artists and bands may suffer in the long term as well, when angry fans choose not to buy their CDs due to the DRM restrictions added by the music labels.
As one Coldplay fan posting on an Internet forum put it, "The only way you and I can tell the record companies that we don't like the way they're kicking our butts adding this sort of technology' is by returning their crippled discs back to the store, or even better, steer clear of buying them ... I support the artists, it's the record companies that need a wake-up call!"

  • Sign in to icoud won't take new password and can't get to settings

The sign in to icloud box is coming up on my IPAD.  I went into myapple id online and changed my password for the icloud account.  It will not take the new password on my ipad and when I get the option to reset, it tells me to turn off airplane mode or connect to WIFI, but i can't get to settings to do anything.  I tried a hard reset and the password window just came back up.

  • Calendar won't take new items

When I input events into my calendar on my Pixi that occur more than 60 days from the current date, they won't show up.  One Palm tech guy said this was normal; another told me I needed to reset my phone.  Anyone else have this issue?  Could it really be that I cannot make plans more than 60 days in advance?

elizarenn- my wife's is doing the same thing. She's had it for about a month, and everything had been fine. I don't know if she had tried putting any items in the calendar farther out than 60 days though. But she did recently and it vanishes after entering. This is not the only problem she is having though- phone will turn off and reset for no reason. Set alarms don't always go off. And the sound/mute icon toggles on and off for no reason.

  • CD Player won't take in any discs (no life inside, although radio works)

It was really cold out a few days ago and my CD was stuck inside. I tried many times to get the CD out but it became stuck inside so that the deck didn't realize that there was a CD in there. A couple of days later I got the CD out, but now it doesn't work. The radio works fine, but the CD playing portion is dead.
Now when I got the CD out, I did push two things to the side that where in the way. I pushed one to the right and the other to the left. Not sure what that is, but maybe that is the mechanism that grabs the CD and moves it around. I was sticking things inside to get the CD out and tried fixing out but now the player might be broken, but I'm unsure.
Is this fixable? Or do I have to buy a new CD player (some day!).

    Hello araonbefekadu,
Boy, I hate when that happens! I have a similar issue going on with mine as well. Frustrating, to be sure. I don't know that there's a fix for these built in CD players that are part of the deck. My best recommendation is to stop by the install bay and talk to the tech about it and see what he/she recommends. For me, I think I'm looking at getting a new deck which with all the neat new features, isn't such a bad idea anyway.
    Good luck to you,

  • Installation disc stuck in new drive while trying to install OS!? Help!

    Hello.
My hard drive crashed a month ago on my 13 inch Macbook. I ordered a new hard drive and put it into my Macbook.
After putting in new hardware I wanted to put the original OS back on my computer (Leopard v10.5). I put the install disc in my computer and it boots normally and goes through all the prompts during the installtion of the OS and then on the final screen it prompts me to put installation disc 2.
I go to eject the disc from my computer to finish installing this OS and the disc wont eject!
I need to finish installing the OS on the new hard drive in order to restore normal function of the applications and everything else.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Force eject a stuck cd/dvd
First try the normal methods to remove the disc. Drag its icon to the Trash can in the Dock or select 'Eject' from the File menu.
If you are running a virtual machine, e.g. VMFusion, ensure that the CD is disconnected from the virtual machine. This will sometimes allow the CD to now show up in Mac OS X.
Shut down the computer and start up whilst holding down the mouse button. This may take some time, but keep your finger on the mouse button right up until the disc comes out or the log-in screen has appeared.
If you have Toast Titanium installed on your computer, choose EJECT DISC from the menubar.
Sometimes you can successfully use the eject disc button in iTunes even if the disc is not visible to the Finder
Open Disc utility and choose the disc you wish to eject in the left-hand pane, then click on the Eject button.
Some Macintoshes have a paperclip hole that you can insert a straightened paperclip into, manually triggering the eject mechanism.
Open Terminal and type "drutil tray eject" to eject the disc/tray, and "drutil tray close" to close the tray.
If your computer has an eject button on the keyboard, restart the computer holding down the Option key. When the startup disk selection screen appears, let go of the option key and press the keyboard's eject button.

"If you've forgotten the Apple ID password how did you log in to make the last post?"
Exactly! The password I used to log on here and write my post I figured was the same Apple ID password I would use to reset my computer login password. But my computer isn't recognizing it as the correct password so it wont let me update my login password. I have 2 user accounts on my computer.
As far as the link you provided, I already looked to that for help earlier. It states:
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Users & Groups, click the lock to unlock it, then provide an administrator name and password. Select a user, then click Reset Password.
I did these steps, but I don't remember my admin password. The question is: How do I reset my admin password so I can reset my log in password.
Is my admin password the same password I use to log onto this website to post questions? If so, like I said previously, I already reset that password and my computer isnt recognizing it.
