G5 wont start (unix prompt) what's the procedure?

Hi all hope you can help me : (
My G5 goes to a black screen with a unix command line when i turn it on. (I hope this doesn't have anything to do with the Apple updates i installed a couple of days ago!)
What's the best trouble-shooting procedure? And, oh yeah... I'd like to recover all the data on my system drive please!

Just curious, but can you do a Safe boot?
-Be sure the computer is shut down.
-Press the power button.
-Immediately after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key.
Tip: The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
-Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple and progress indicator.
Can you boot and access the startup manager? Do this starting up while holding the option key.

Could this apply? Even though I doubt it occurred in conjunction with OS 9(?), the "/etc/" reference is also prevalent in Linux and Windows systems with similar errors. You might give the Single user boot, and the suggested fix a try.
Barring this, I wonder if an Archive and Install might be better (since no errors are reported)?

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

If the mouse clicks something on its own then it looks like you have a hardware problem with the trackpad or possibly the battery that is right underneath the trackpad.
I have read that the battery can swell and that would put pressure on the trackpad.

My PowerBook G4 15" Titanium runs very slow. I want to resurrect it's basic functionality. I am the second respectful owner. Is rebooting from the original Mac OS discs (which I have) a good plan? And if so, what's the procedure? I'm not concerned at this point with security vis-a-vis what will be left on the hard drive, but only with re-optimizing the little beauty for core tasks. Thanks!

As a respectful lover of PPC macs, still having a fully functional one, a 2004 12-in PB, let me ask first some details: RAM installed, disk size. I assume it is running 10.2, as described.
RAM is crucial for upgrading the system, 256 MB is absolute minimum for Tiger, best 512 or, ideally, 1 GB. There were 4 generations of tibooks, beginning with Jan. 2001 through Oct. 2003, which one is yours? The CPU is also important, as the last series may also run Leopard, not only Tiger.
As a basic thought:
- if the first tiBook, with 1 GB memory, you will beautifully run Tiger, Leo may not run due to low CPU
- with the last, with 1 GB memory, you may run both Tiger and Leo, for which 867 Mhz is the minimum.
Of course the original CDs are good, if 10.2, you must be having the last generation, which is of course faster than the earlier ones, so may also install Leopard. I would make a fresh, erase-and-install procedure, and see what is that slowness you mention. Jaguar should run OK on that model, and fast enough, but do the last update too, i.e. 10.2.8

I have a hdd from late 2009 that I upgraded from leopard to snow leopard to lion to mountain lion. I want to upgrade the hdd to ssd. Do I need to buy a new copy of mountain lion to install on the ssd? If not, then what is the procedure to transfer?

I'm confused on if I can use the recovery hd on a thumb drive to install mountain lion on my ssd. Will it be pheasible with so many OS X upgrades? And then how do I get my user accounts onto the ssd from the hdd. Do I use migration assistant? Do I need to make a time machine backup first? Should I use something called Carbon Clone or something like that?

If you have a cable that connects and external HDD to the MBP, it will do. If it is something like this, an enclosure will not be needed for the swap:
An enclosure allows you to use your old HDD for storage or backup purposes. The cable will not.
Here are instructions as to how the swap can be performed using DISK UTITY. Substitute You cable for the enclosure in same:
INSTALLING A NEW HDD IN A MBP
1. Make certain that you have backed up all of your important data.
2. You will need a HDD enclosure. One with a USB connection will do. A 9 pin Firewire is better.
3. Install your new drive in the enclosure and connect it to your MBP.
4. Open DISK UTILITY>ERASE. From the left hand column drag the new drive into the 'Name' field. Make sure that the format is 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)'. Click on the 'Erase' button.
5. Click on the 'Restore' button (on top). Drag the old drive into the 'Source' field and the new drive into the 'Destination' field. Click on the 'Restore' button on the bottom right hand corner.
Depending upon the amount of data you are transferring, this may take a couple hours or more. A Firewire will speed up the transfer. This will result in both drives having identical information on them.
6. After the data transfer has completed, you may swap the drives. Start the MBP and you have finished the installation. The initial boot may take a bit longer than you are accustomed to, but that is normal.
7. When you are satisfied that the new hard drive if functioning properly, you can erase the old drive and use it for any needs that you may have.

What is the procedure when upgrading to Creative Suite 5 Production Premium?

In 2006 I bought the Adobe Creative Suite Production Studio Premium. The procedure when activating the installation I don't remember exactly. The computer on which the Suite was installed doesn't have an internet connection (I thought that was the simplest and safest thing to do; I have another computer for that purpose).
Now, if I want to upgrade to Creative Suite 5 on a newly bought i7 computer, what is the procedure? What do I need to prove to Adobe that I'm eligible for the upgrade? Please tell me the serial number on the box is enough... my old editing computer doesn't start at all so any info contained there is unobtainable at the moment.

Probably don't need citrix software. Is you computer in the office on LAN? Also, is the office computer setup for remote access? If it's windows then its going to be running Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) natively. If it is in fact RDP that your windows machine at work is using then you need to download RDC for mac. I use it to connect to my work computer using RDP (don't tell the "Info Tech" dude at my office) and if your not too tech savvy I would suggest trying GOTOMYPC. It's alot easier to setup. But if you have experience in setting up remote access and your Windows office machine is connected through LAN and your IT TECH has allowed port forwarding then you should be just fine with RDP and it's free!!! But are you logging onto your actual computer at work or logging into the "SERVER" through your work machine... believe me it's two completely different things.
Basically, you'll need:
1. Physichal IP address of work computer. (If office computer is on WIFI this won't work) use IPCONFIG commands in command prompt
2. Port forwarding needs to be enabled by your IT Tech
3. Remote Desktop settings will need to be enabled on the office computer
4. Download RDC for mac (search google)
5. Type the physical IP address into RDC and hit connect... type in credentials and your all done.
We need lots more details though... there are many ways to connect remotely and if your office already has a system in place for remote access then any details would be helpful in determining which method will suit you best. If it's citrix just have your IT dude set it up. If you think you need citrix then good luck....

What is the procedure to transfor the data to idoc.
I have added some new fields in my program. so now i need to transfer those same filed into IDOC.
Can any body tell me the procedure.

Hi,
First of all, you have to find an EXIT in the driver program. In the exit, you have to populate the values to the new segments which you created.
Creation of custom idoc includes the following steps:
Create Segment ( WE31)
Create Idoc Type ( WE30)
Create Message Type ( WE81)
Assign Idoc Type to Message Type ( WE82)
Creating a Segment
Go to transaction code WE31
Enter the name for your segment type and click on the Create icon Type the short text Enter the variable names and data elements Save it and go back Go to Edit -> Set Release Follow steps to create more number of segments
Create IDOC Type
Go to transaction code WE30
Enter the Object Name, select Basic type and click Create icon Select the create new option and enter a description for your basic IDOC type and press enter Select the IDOC Name and click Create icon The system prompts us to enter a segment type and its attributes Choose the appropriate values and press Enter The system transfers the name of the segment type to the IDOC editor.
Create IDOC Type
Follow these steps to add more number of segments to Parent or as Parent-child relation
Save it and go back
Go to Edit -> Set release
Create Message Type
Go to transaction code WE81
Change the details from Display mode to Change mode After selection, the system will give this message The table is cross-client (see Help for further info). Press Enter Click New Entries to create new Message Type Fill details Save it and go back
Assign Message Type to IDoc Type
Go to transaction code WE82
Change the details from Display mode to Change mode After selection, the system will give this message The table is cross-client (see Help for further info). Press Enter.
Click New Entries to create new Message Type.
Fill details
Save it and go back

It's in the article. You must first sign-out your current account, then go to App store to purchase a Free App. It will ask you to either Sign in or create a new AppleID. That's when you start creating a new AppleaID and NONE will be available as a payment option.

In iTunes if you have your contacts synced to Address Book just open address book on your computer and start editing.
