G530 resolution/gfx issues

Hey everyone
Hoping someone can help me, here. My unit bought a G530 4446-25Z model. It was downgraded to XP Pro and worked beautifully for 8 months.
Suddenly the oclours are all funny; mostlly in blue and looking like 256 colour mode. If you plug in a second monitor and extend the desktop (or just output to the 2nd monitor like for presentations) the 2nd monitor colour is perfect. If I uninstall the graphics driver from device manager (The mobile intel 4 series epress chipset) and reboot, colours and resolution are perfect and it asks for the correct drivers (Found New Hardware etc). However in this mode it will not recognise a 2nd monitor installed for Extended Desktop, which is a problem since we need the 2nd monitor running.
If I use the new Intel driver or the one still left on the hd from the downgrade in the swsetup folder, the resolution is right at 1280x800, but the colours are still that funny pale blue, even though it says 1280x800 32 bit 58Hz in the control panel. Again, the 2nd monitor works perfectly and all the colours are right on it, but the laptop screen is all wrong.
I've tried several drivers from both Lenovo and Intel (current April 2010 ones and the recent Feb 2010 ones); I've tried the gfx drivers as well as the chipset drivers and I am having no luck at all. I assume the adapter and screen are ok since it works and colours are correct with no drivers installed, but what else can I do to fix this?
If anyone has any ideas I'd appreciate some advice! I'm tearing my already thinning hair out here.
Thanks
Dale

What does it show for monitor 1 and 2 in control panel>display>settings? I do know that sometimes when you extend to another display it can change the other displays settings. Just make sure they are both set on 32bit. Also I would just use the GPU drivers from the website whether it's intel's or nvidia's. http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-72514

  • Yoga 2 Pro Resolution Scaling Issues

So I just picked this laptop up from Best Buy the other day and so far I am loving it. However that is not to say that it has been entirely without issues so far and I do apologize if this issue has been brought up before but I was unable to find a decent answer in my searches.
I have checked this on a few games but I will focus on one that I want to play the most but also seems to have the most issues.
So this laptop is just not powerful enough to run a lot of games at the full 3200x1800 resolution and I totally understand that and was not expecting to, however, when turning the resolution down, say to 1600x900 instead of scaling the resolution to fill the screen, it runs it as the actual pixels inside a black box. This has the effect of making the games just too tiny to see, not to mention half or more of the screen is just being wasted.
This seems to really only happen when running a game in Direct X 11 mode, DX9 seems to work fine, but causes other problems and is really not a great option. Alternately, some games, I can set the windows resolution down (which scales fine in windows) and then the game will run and scale. However, specificially with Civilization 5 (one of the games I was most excited to play) it still does not work properly. There is a work around, but it is less than ideal, and I am at a loss as to why I just cant run the game at a lower resolution and have it scale and fill the screen.
Any help or information would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

There is a setting, however, when at native resolution, instead of giving the option to scale to fit display, it just has another option that says maintain display scaling or something like that (I am not on the laptop right now, so I have to double check). As far as I can tell it just does not scale properly. When I change to a non-native resolution, the options change and it then says scale to fit screen, which is what i want.
However, I would rather not have to change to a non native resolution every time I want to run a game. And, specifically in the case of Civilization 5, it doesn't help. The only thing I have found so far that works at all is to change the resolution to 1920x1080, then set the ingame resolution to 1440x900. It is a pain, and ends up in a streched picture.
I tried to install the latest intel drivers from their website (not sure if it would have fixed the issue, since there was no changelog) but it gave me an error saying they were not verified for my device.
This is a rather frustrating issue, especially considering that every computer I have ever owned up until this point has been able to scale the image to fit the screen with no problems what so ever.

  • Keyboard and gfx issues after switching to xf86-video-radeonhd

After recently switching from an nVidia gfx card to a ATI Radeon HD2400, I instaled xf86-video-radeonhd driver. I noticed several issues that I haven't experienced before:
    1. Keyboard frequently repeat a keystroke that I only pressed once (e.g. aaaaarch when i type arch)
    2. Keyboard frequently skip keystrokes when I type fast (e.g. "achlinx rcks" when i type "archlinux rocks")
    3. After X11 starts, if I try to switch to virtual console (ctrl+alt+F1), the system freezes and turns zombie. This combined with my recently switch to ext4 had caused more than enough data loss.
    4. I hav a dual monitor setup, one of them needs 59.9Hz refresh rate, and the other needs 60.0Hz  refresh rate. If I configure the monitor as right-of or left-of in xorg.conf, xrandr always gets the refresh rate wrong. I have to manually issue xrandr commands.
I noticed that my keyboard got recognized twice in Xorg.log, Could this have caused 1) and 2)?//

Hate to reply to my own thread. But the keyboard problem has been solved by moving the keyboard to a different port. Apparently not all ports behind the workstation are 2.0 ports? Funny this was never a problem before until I switch to a radeon gfx card.

  • QHD+ Resolution Scaling Issues Windows 8

I've read that QHD+ resolution monitors like the Dell Precision m3800 with a 3200x1800 resolution screen are having scaling issues with Windows 8, and even 8.1. Some programs scale correctly, but I have specifically heard Adobe programs including Adobe After Effects do NOT scale correctly.
Are there plans to fix this with the next Windows release? Or a patch before then?
Any rough estimate as to when that would be?
Does it work at the moment to scale the monitor down to a lower resolution to fix it? Is it in fact tested and not just assumed. (I have no way of checking and can't get a straight answer)
I want to buy this laptop soon, but I need it for After Effects and if it's not usable, it won't be a good buy. Would love to have some concret answers!
    Thanks!
    Kim

The CC versions of Adobe programs support high-DPI displays, but not older ones. If you use an older version, this won't change. Nobody goes back to old code.

  • Kdemod display resolution default issue

Hello everyone again. Im currently on my third install of arch and im trying out kdemod this time... one issue i seem to be having tho is that my resolution keeps going to 1600x1200 and i keep having to change it to 1280x1024 at the beggening of my session... how do i fix this? btw i have fglrx drivers. Just to me it seems like there might be a permission problem or something that wont let it write the config, but i dunno where to start to look.

try this. navigate to KMenu -> Control Center -> Peripherals -> Display and mark the box next to message "Apply settings at next startup". Then change your display resolution, and it should work for subsequent logon.

  • IPad Retina Resolution - PPI issue

    Hi All,
I am really struggling to get my head around what is going on in my document.
I am in process of creating a page for iPad. it only has to be a single PDF which will then go off into a magazine (publishing company will be doing this).
Now the iPads all have different resolutions and PPI abilities. The original iPad and iPad 2 are 1024px x 768px @ 132ppi and the iPad Retina is 2048px x 1536px @ 264ppi.
    (See - http://www.apple.com/ipad/compare/ for specs).
Now my issue has arrisen after I have tried creating a document in inDesign with the settings of 1024px x 768px @72ppi (default & unchangeable ppi settings).
I create my image which ive made large enough & dense enough to ensure quality at the top end iPad. This image is at size 2172px x 1536px @ 528ppi (.
When I place the image into the document at its full size, it is tiny inside the document. You can see this in the attached screenshot.
Can someone please tell me what is going on, pixel wise and what I should be doing to create a document suitable for its prerequisites.
    Many thanks,
    Tim

Now my issue has arrisen after I have tried creating a document in inDesign with the settings of 1024px x 768px @72ppi (default & unchangeable ppi settings).
While placed images do have a pixel resolution, Indesign documents do not. So, when you make a new document with the Intent set at Web or Digital Publishing you get pixels as the initial measurement units, but you are free to change them after the doc is created.
For measurement purposes Indesign assumes there are 72 pixels in an inch—obviously that's no the case for most monitors and tablets. The Link panel's effective pixels per inch reading is relative to the page dimension in inches. So, if you accept the iPad 1024x768 preset and change the measurement settings to inches you'll get 14.22" x 10.66" almost twice the size of the iPad's physical dimensions.
If I scale up a 264ppi image to fill the page on a 14.22" x 10.66" page I get an effective ppi of 144, but when the page is eventually displayed on the smaller 7.7" x 5.8" iPad screen the effective res will go back up to 264ppi.

  • Newbie resolution ratio issue

I have CS3 Production Premium and I am just learning the applications. I have worked myself into a bind on my first project and wanted some advice about it.
    Here is the issue:
The project involves footage from a DV cam (720x480 0.9)that is run through Ultra for a virtual set. The resulting .avi is 720x480.
This will be edited together with footage that is created from scratch in After Effects. I knew that my resulting flash product had to be 320x240. So, given that AE works faster with smaller resolutions and that I wanted to see what I could get away with in 320x240, I created the AE footage to be 320x240. This represents an amount of work that cannot be redone.
When bringing these into PrProCS3, I started with the DV cam 720x480 clips. Then I add the 320x240 clips and see that I must use the PP feature, "scale to fit frame". This leaves black bars on the left and right of the 320x240 clips as they are a different ratio than the 720x480 clips.
    So,
    1. What could I do about fixing the situation I have created?
    2. How should I have done it to start with?
thanks very much for any ideas,
    fred

    This link may help:
    http://blogs.digitalmediaonlineinc.com/jeffschell
Premiere Pro CS3 Podcast #11: Picture-in-Picture and Split Screen Effects
But, to be honest, I'm not sure that's the best way to go. Why not create a custom 320x240 project (using the "Desktop mode"), and then scale your DV clip down, while leaving your AE clips at 100%. It's ALWAYS preferable to scale clips down rather than above 100%; clips over 100% lose quality.
Simply make a new 320x240 custom project and import the old one into it.

  • X121e Linux Resolution/BIOS Issues

    Hi,
I posted a few weeks ago about an intermittent resolution my x121e is having. It switches to 1280x800 rather than the correct 136x768. This issue remained for a week, then disappeared, and has now returned. It effects the whole computer, rather than just the linux mint 11 operating system. Terminal commands (xrandr) and grub edits, do not provide a fix.
Hence it has been suggested this is likely a BIOS bug relating to graphics or the motherboard. I am considering a resetting BIOS to defaults once I can ensure the effects this will have on the general working of the machine. No edits have been made to the BIOS by me personally so I cannot be sure if it will work.
Other than the virtual shoulder to cry on, would anyone have any advice on what else might be at issue?
Or the warranty status pertaining to Linux users?
    Regards,
    Daniel.

Hello, I have exactly this issue on mine too
    I'm under win7 sp1.
The issue is visible under bios and win7 rescue mode.
I have changed drivers and setup win7 again but nothing is working.
Is this issue known by Lenovo?
    Is there a fix ? a bios # to avoid ?
    Best regards,
    Olivier

  • T420 Screen Resolution Change Issue

My T420 laptop is capable of 1600 X 900 screen resolution. After changing the resolution temporarily to 1024 X 768,
I tried to change it back a couple of hours later to 1600 X 900. However, now I do not even see 1600 X 900 as an option.
The highest option is its' current setting of 1024 X 768. Can someone tell me how I can get the 1600 X 900 resolution to show up
again as an option so I can change the screen resolution back to its' factory setting? I do not know what could have happened
except for maybe a windows update took place before I attempted to change the screen resolution back. Any help
    would be greatly appreciated.

    hey Quinn,
welcome to the forums. could you check the graphic card version on your unit and compare it to the version available on http://support.lenovo.com .
is it the same or is the one on the support site ? If both of it is the same, uninstall the graphic driver from your unit and then download the driver from our support site.
do not install it yet, set your unit to diagnostic mode via msconfig first and then only install.

  • Resolution mismatch issue in Photoshop CS3...

Here's a problem that I haven't been able to find an answer to...
I converted 180ppi images to 300ppi using a program called ImageMagick.
When I open the image up on my machine the image size states that it is 7.454ppi, which is not what I want it to be. I want 300ppi.
However, when I open up that same exact image on a co-workers machine the image size is 300ppi like I wanted.
    Both machines are running CS3.
Any suggestions or feedback greatly appreciated as this has been driving me crazy for weeks.
    Thanks,
    Pete

    Peter
The ppi information that is stored in an image file (metadata) does not effect the image data in any way. The image data is the h x w in pixels. The ppi has to do with a suggested reference to printing an image on paper. But you can still print at any resolution you want to and override the ppi setting in the image file at the time of printing.
    your statement
    >I converted 180ppi images to 300ppi using a program called >ImageMagick
does not seem to be accurate since the 180 or 300ppi has nothing to do with the image data.
When you are in PSCS3 you can set the ppi to any number you desire and it will not affect the image data as long as you do not resample the image data. You can change it as many times as you like!

  • Resolution issue with macbook pro 13 (late 2013) and dell u2711

I have a Dell U2711 (native resolution 2560x1440) that I use without issue with a macbook pro late 2007 (running 10.10.x), various iMacs and Macbook air 2011 running 10.10. When I say without issue, the display works at its native resolution.
Last week we got a MacBook Pro 13in, late 2013 model.
If I connect this macbook via either thunderbolt connection to the u2711 using either DVI port on the dell, the maximum resolution that I can use is 1920x1080. I am using apple mini displayport to DVI adaptors (I have tried 2 different ones and 2 different DVI cables, with no improvement). Clicking option + scaled in sys prefs does not give the native resolution as an option.
However, I just discovered that if I use a DVI to HDMI adaptor and I connect the macbook to the display I get the full native resolution without issue (2560x1440).
I have zapped the pram, powered down the display etc etc etc and it made no difference.
I would prefer to use the mini DIsplayPort to DVI adaptor rather than HDMI, any suggestions appreciated.

  • U2715H resolution issues

I bought this monitor new, and it certainly seems to have resolution/compatibility issues. I've had the same problems everyone else has mentioned using display port and HDMI.  Different cables, computers, video cards, you name it.
I took it back to Microcenter where I got it for them to test.  Same result.  They took a second monitor out of stock and had the same issues.  I seems to maybe work on a Mac, but nothing else.  It either won't support the stated resolution, won't enter Windows when it tells you the resolution is wrong (even though it isn't), and does not get along well in a dual monitor situation either.
I have an older Dell ultrasharp monitor that I love and am trying to replace.  The new monitor should not be so problematic that even a well-known sales/service center can't make it work.  PLEASE look into this.  I would love to be able to buy this monitor and use it!

We do failure analysis on every returned monitor. I have not seen any new revision come out. Users have mentioned using 3rd party cabling has helped. Of course we can only test on our cabling. They also mentioned using "custom" resolution in their video card control panel.

  • ITunes 12.1.1 installation errors and resolution (Win 7, 64 bit)

I am providing all of the installation errors I had experienced
and all of the methods I had tried until I finally came up with a solution.
Hopefully the details will help you see if your situation has similarities
which hopefully will make this post helpful in terms of a solution.
    PART ONE: INSTALLATION ERRORS
I received the following installation errors
when attempting to update to 12.1.1
and later once I uninstalled and attempted to reinstall 12.1.1.
I used this link for the download:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/?cid=wwa-us-kwg-music-itu
    > itunes 6464setup.exe
    I then tried this link:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1614
    > itunes 12.1.1 64 bit
    Again 6464 in the name.
    After uninstalling the iunes,
    I discovered under add/remove programs:
    apple application support 32 bit
    and apple support update
I deleted these and restarted the PC.
I then tried reinstalling a NEW version
    from the second link above.
    Opened download iTunes 6464setup.exe >

    SIDE NOTE
There was a USB cable connected to the PC to charge the iPhone,
but the iPhone was not connected. I detached the USB cable from the PC in case it's relevant.
(I did not reattach the USB cable until I finally got a copy of itunes to install. You will see later in this post below.).
    I then clicked Retry.
    ERROR MESSAGE 2 AGAIN
I received the identical 'Apple Mobile Device Service' error as above.
    I then clicked Ignore.

    ERROR MESSAGE 4
I received all of these errors above
when I had tried a fresh install before returning to the forum to search for answers.
When I had first tried a fresh install, I didn't get as far as the Congrats.
I only got as far as the first and second error listed above
("An error occurred during installation of assembly Microsoft VC80 CRT Type ="win32"...
AND Service 'Apple Mobile Device Service' (Apple Mobile Device Service").
Clicked on iTunes icon on desktop
    ERROR MESSAGE 5
I receive the (iTunes pop-up error message window)
error 2 windows error 2 (identical to what's listed listed under 3b).
    PART 2 - INSTALLATION RESOLUTION
    The issue finally is resolved.
    HERE IT IS!!!
    1) Uninstall iTunes
    2) check remaining Apple programs
(click control panel > programs > uninstall)
    > check the listed Apple programs
    Apple Application Support 32 bit,
    Apple Mobile Device Support,
    Apple Software Update,
    Bonjour
    3) Locate and save the correct file version of iTunes for your OS and System.
In my case, it's Win 7.
You must check for the System Type.
Computer > right click to properties > system type.
In my case its 64 bit.
The 32 bit installer is named iTunesSetup.exe,
while the 64 bit installer is named iTunes64Setup.exe.
I learned that some folks had experienced issues with
the 64 bit installer on the Apple site whether it's
because they had downloaded the 32 bit
when they needed the 64 and therefore
couldn't complete the install or in my case,
what appears to perhaps be a corrupted file that stated 6464 in the .exe file name.
This lead me to believe that finding the file with the correct file name and
correct file size to prove it authentic for that version would likely be part of
the solution if not the solution. File Hippo is one suggested means to locate the file.
I locate the iTunes download "iTunes64Setup.exe" that matched the size of the file
to a valid copy of that version of ITunes and I set it aside.
    4) I then made sure that all old copies
and remnants of iTunes and Apple software
has been uninstalled by checking add/remove.
    Then C: program files
and then C: program files (x86),
    then running CC Cleaner,
then cleaning the registry using CC Cleaner
and then checking Tools under CC Cleaner.
***I discovered under Tools that there were remaining Apple files listed
after the uninstall of iTunes and other files had taken place under iTunes***
I visit tools under CC Cleaner and deleted the remaining Apple files
including Apple Application Support, Mobile Device Support, and Bonjour,
***but I leave the Apple Software Update folder as is, in tact***
under C: Program files (x86) and Tools of CC Cleaner and under Add/Remove.
    5) I restart the computer, install the new copy of iTunes 12.1.1 (64 bit),
iTunes64Setup.exe, and it installed with zero errors.
Hope someone will find this useful. Good luck.

Try the "for older video cards" version.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.
