G550 2958 battery burning hot in hibernate?

I've had my G550 2958 since late October. Been thrilled overall.
Today, after the machine went into hibernate, it began chirping quietly at ~1 minute intervals. When I felt it in my laptop bag, the battery was searing hot.
After getting it home, it wouldn't boot. Finally, after letting it cool and plugging it in to AC, it started up. Battery was completely depleted. The machine had only been in hibernate for two hours, so I was surprised.
I've had battery woes before on much older machines. I'm quite concerned that this would be happening so early.
Should I apply my warranty and shoot for new parts? Rather worried.
Any advice much appreciated.

Hmmm, so my efforts to call were met with:
1) A 30-minute hold time culminating in a dead line.
2) Another epic hold with no response.
Is there a time to call when they're more prone to pick up?

my iphone battery is burning hot and the power goes to low battery in 20 minutes and charging takes all day does anyone know how to fix this or do i need to replace it for a new one, thank you

Make an appointment at the genius bar and get the phone replaced. It will cost you US$149 for an out of warranty replacement.
Do NOT keep it turned on. Do NOT use it. It is a fire hazard now.

  • Burning hot charger - should I worry?

    Hello,
I have a MacBook Pro early-2009 model. I have bought it late May this year, it came along with a charger. Right now, while charging, I noticed that it's almost burning hot - so hot that I can't keep it in my hands for long.
Not sure if it's been that way from the very beginning, as the charger used to lie on the floor and it's been the first time I've ever actually picked it up while it was on and charging. Should I worry and stop using the charger immediately (kinda afraid it might do something with my batterry or my MacBook), or is it normal for those chargers to give out excessive heat while operating?
    Many thanks,
    Dynamitri

My adapter does not utilize a cord to plug into the wall. It is being used "wall wart" style. This gives it the maximum cooling possible. Nothing is wrapped around it to insulate it and keep it hot, nor is one face of it laying on the carpeted floor.
If your power adapter is charging your depleted battery plus powering your computer doing a very CPU intensive task then it will run much much hotter than if the battery is fully charged and you are merely surfing the internet or some other very low intensity task.
If it draws too much power, getting too hot, it will blow its own internal fuse. There is virtually nothing you need to worry about. One persons "way too hot" may be another persons "fairly warm".
If you want proof of that concept look at the thread about the sharp edges on the MBP. Some people are getting great pain from something that others do not even notice.

  • 3GS gets burning hot during calls

For some reason, and ONLY OCCASIONALLY, my iPhone 3GS gets burning hot during phone calls. I'm definitely in a 68 degree cool environment, no direct sun, my phone was cold to the touch when I picked it up. But by 10 minutes into the call it's nearly too hot to touch. There's something about CERTAIN CALLS that this happens on. Other calls will be just fine. Often I can hang up with the person, call them back and the phone is fine.
I've even had the phone thermal-shutdown on me in the middle of a call, because of ITS OWN - SELF GENERATED heat.
Naturally this rips battery life to shreds. I get about 15 minutes of talk and I'm done. Even ON CHARGER, it continues to lose battery and will shut down. So the phone module is drawing more power than USB charging can replace.
How do I fix this? Or is the iPhone just junk?

Make an appointment at the Genius Bar - http://apple.com/retail/geniusbar . The heat is coming from your battery.

  • The iPod touch 5 battery won't charge, the iPod battery gets hot and doesn't turn on...  What is wrong?  Can photos and data be retrieved?

The iPod touch 5 battery won't charge, the iPod battery gets hot and doesn't turn on...  What is wrong?  Can photos and data be retrieved?

    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. I suspect a hardware problem  due to the hotness. If iTunes can't see the iPod then uor only hope if to contact a data recovery company for getting data off the iPod. If you have an iPod backup you can restore another iPod, iPhone or iPad from the backup to get the data that was in the backup

  • 13" Macbook Pro runs burning hot in bootcamp vista?

I just got a new macbook 13". I was using my bootcamp vista and the macbook literally burned my lap. I flipped it over and the metal area, directly in the center of the macbook, was BURNING hot. Probably hot enough to cook an egg -- I know I couldn't leave my hand there for a long time. Is this normal? I'm afraid this laptop will burn my legs or cause other heat related issues...

Make sure you have Vista and the BootCamp drivers up to date, but Apple doesn't recommend using a portable computer in your lap:
    From the MacBook Care page:
+For prolonged use, place your MacBook on a flat, stable surface. Do not place your MacBook on your lap or other body surface for extended periods of time. Prolonged body contact can cause discomfort and potentially a burn. The bottom of the MacBook case functions as a cooling surface that transfers heat from inside the computer to the cooler air outside. The bottom of the case is raised slightly to allow airflow, which keeps the unit within normal operating temperatures. In addition, warm air is vented from the slots in the back of the case.+

  • Lenovo G550 2958 Recovery Disk

    Hi,
Can any provide a recovery disk for a Lenovo G550 2958 with Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit or alternatively be able to tell me the original C and D drive partition sizes for the 149GB version?
Typical resize of partitions error of judgement - will never make this mistake again.
Failing that I will just merge all partitions, be done with it and just re-install an OS.
Just looking for any easy way out.
    Many thanks.

you should be able to order recovery discs by calling lenovo support line. call them again and tell ( again ) you want to order recovery discs. post back the results and we'll try to help you to solve your issue.
ps: if you don't want to use one key recover function, i can assist you to download legal windows 7 iso so you can perform clean windows installation by using your serial number.

  • PCIe Slot on Lenovo G550 2958 95Q

I've recently bought a Lenovo G550 2958 95Q, which ships with integrated graphics. However, I need a more powerful GPU for graphics applications. So I was wondering if there are some PCIe slots on this Laptop that I could utilize to upgrade my GPU.
    Are there ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Sunny

Note : Lenovo G550 2958 H2Q had dedicated Graphics, and they are pretty much similar, only for the GPU. So does that mean that the 95Q is nothing but the h2q, only that the GPU's been removed?

  • G550 2958 Sound Problem

I just got my laptop back from the repair center where they replaced the mobo, suddenly after a few hours of use the sound acts up.
It becomes fuzzy and distorted, and sometimes it reverts back to normal at random..
After several tries with different drivers, I decided to tak drastic measures in hand and clean the partition and give it a fresh install to windows 7
Now the speakers are OK, but there appear to be something wrong with the mini jack now.
There is no sound coming out, and  tested it with different headphones.
Installing the latest conexant driver from Lenovo's driverpage just makes windows unable to even recognize that a headphone is plugged in.
However using older drivers makes me able to see that a headphone is plugged in, even indicating that there is sound ( by the moving green volume indicator), but no sound is coming out?
I would really dislike the idea of sending it back another 2-3 weeks, since it is such a minor problem.. Yet frustrating..
    In short:
    Speakers = Ok!
Mini Jack Line out = X

    Hi there:
I recently (1 week ago) purchased a Lenovo G550 2958 (Intel Dual Core, Windows 7) laptop. I use Skype and other messenger services to talk to my family. I had also purchased a top of the line Logitech Headset with two prongs to connect to the front of the laptop.
The problem is that this headset is not being recognized by the windows. I have checked many blogs and forums to fix the issue, but, no solution. So, basically even when I have the headset plugged, the laptop uses Connexant built in microphone with very poor quality and fade-ins and outs of sound.
Could someone please help me? When I am in Control Panel>Hardware and Sounds>Manage Audio Devices, I only see built-in speakers and microphone. I have also checked to see if the Show Disabled Devices and Show Disconnected Devices are checked in.
    Nothing would work. PLEASE HELP!
    Shams!

  • Requesting Lenovo G550 2958 H2Q Recovery Disk

    Hello,
My Lenovo G550 2958 H2Q switches off frequently and on reboot asks for recovery options. The 'Repair Disk Windows 7 32 bit' was used to recover the disk image. Contacting the Lenovo Support didn't help as they try to throw ball in others court. When the service provider was personally approached at Chennai, he informed his inability to provide a Recovery Disk or to recover to factory default due to software not available for my model. Now the repair disk has got corrupted or damaged.
What do I do now? Continue operating on Safe mode due to the inefficiency of LENOVO staff!
Can anyone please help me in this forum by mailing me the disk- I promise to bear the cost. Thanks.

  • G550 2958 - No mute key

I bought a new G550-2958 laptop.. There is no mute key in that laptop..
Is there any option to configure a key for mute ?

    specific models for g550.
can you check your user manual for function keys.

  • RMBP is burning hot...

Right now I'm only running Pages and Chrome (with several tabs including YouTube), and my keyboard + the aluminum part right above the function keys are burning hot....
    WHy is it soooo hott

I'm actually having a similar problem on my brand new rMBP and wondering if I'm just being hyper sensitive or if it's actually running hot. I keep reading about how ice cold the rMBP runs when doing normal activities so I'm a bit concerned.
I've installed iStat pro and my laptop has now been running for a half hour. The upper keyboard keys and area above the function keys are the warm areas.
    iStat readings:
    HD: 35
    CPU Heatsink: 43
    Airport card: 39
    Enclosure base: 32
    Enclosure base 2: 32
    Enclosure base 3: 30
    GPU: 46
    GPU diode: 48
    right fan: 1993 rpm
    left fan: 2157 rpm
97% of the cpu is idle.
If anybody who has knowledge with this could give me a heads up I'd greatly appreciate it. Should I be concerned and bringing this to the Genius Bar or is some warm in the area described something normal and to be expected?
    Thanks.
