G550 2958 Problems

Hello,
I am having a problem with the laptop mentioned in the subject line. First, I kept on getting an error when booting up, it would say this message:   http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f234/drewster88/100_1351.jpg
So I decided to open up the hard drive area and motherboard area. I took the hard drive out and put it back in. I took out the two sticks of ram and put them back in. I now turn on the laptop and nothing on the screen comes up. The only thing that happens is the LED light for both the power and battery light up. Also I heard the cdrom drive boot up as well with a noise. The fan does not turn on either.
What do you guys think happened?

Changing the boot order may have caused the original
problem (screen shot you linked to).
Boot order should should not cause the current no boot
problem, but no way to set to default if you can not reach BIOS.
So, with HD Out, no boot?
Try removing one of the memory sticks.
Do you have access to a known good memory stick to try?
Try removing the DVD drive.
Basically, when I service a problem like that, I first
remove everything I can, and see if there is a change.
So if I had battery, HD, WLAN card and DVD out, and a known
good memory in, and still no boot, I would guess the motherboard
has a problem.
May have got zapped with static electricity when pulling memory, for example.

  • G550 2958 Sound Problem

I just got my laptop back from the repair center where they replaced the mobo, suddenly after a few hours of use the sound acts up.
It becomes fuzzy and distorted, and sometimes it reverts back to normal at random..
After several tries with different drivers, I decided to tak drastic measures in hand and clean the partition and give it a fresh install to windows 7
Now the speakers are OK, but there appear to be something wrong with the mini jack now.
There is no sound coming out, and  tested it with different headphones.
Installing the latest conexant driver from Lenovo's driverpage just makes windows unable to even recognize that a headphone is plugged in.
However using older drivers makes me able to see that a headphone is plugged in, even indicating that there is sound ( by the moving green volume indicator), but no sound is coming out?
I would really dislike the idea of sending it back another 2-3 weeks, since it is such a minor problem.. Yet frustrating..
    In short:
    Speakers = Ok!
Mini Jack Line out = X

    Hi there:
I recently (1 week ago) purchased a Lenovo G550 2958 (Intel Dual Core, Windows 7) laptop. I use Skype and other messenger services to talk to my family. I had also purchased a top of the line Logitech Headset with two prongs to connect to the front of the laptop.
The problem is that this headset is not being recognized by the windows. I have checked many blogs and forums to fix the issue, but, no solution. So, basically even when I have the headset plugged, the laptop uses Connexant built in microphone with very poor quality and fade-ins and outs of sound.
Could someone please help me? When I am in Control Panel>Hardware and Sounds>Manage Audio Devices, I only see built-in speakers and microphone. I have also checked to see if the Show Disabled Devices and Show Disconnected Devices are checked in.
    Nothing would work. PLEASE HELP!
    Shams!

Maybe it is just an option?

  • Lenovo G550 2958 Recovery Disk

    Hi,
Can any provide a recovery disk for a Lenovo G550 2958 with Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit or alternatively be able to tell me the original C and D drive partition sizes for the 149GB version?
Typical resize of partitions error of judgement - will never make this mistake again.
Failing that I will just merge all partitions, be done with it and just re-install an OS.
Just looking for any easy way out.
    Many thanks.

you should be able to order recovery discs by calling lenovo support line. call them again and tell ( again ) you want to order recovery discs. post back the results and we'll try to help you to solve your issue.
ps: if you don't want to use one key recover function, i can assist you to download legal windows 7 iso so you can perform clean windows installation by using your serial number.

  • PCIe Slot on Lenovo G550 2958 95Q

I've recently bought a Lenovo G550 2958 95Q, which ships with integrated graphics. However, I need a more powerful GPU for graphics applications. So I was wondering if there are some PCIe slots on this Laptop that I could utilize to upgrade my GPU.
    Are there ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Sunny

Note : Lenovo G550 2958 H2Q had dedicated Graphics, and they are pretty much similar, only for the GPU. So does that mean that the 95Q is nothing but the h2q, only that the GPU's been removed?

  • Requesting Lenovo G550 2958 H2Q Recovery Disk

    Hello,
My Lenovo G550 2958 H2Q switches off frequently and on reboot asks for recovery options. The 'Repair Disk Windows 7 32 bit' was used to recover the disk image. Contacting the Lenovo Support didn't help as they try to throw ball in others court. When the service provider was personally approached at Chennai, he informed his inability to provide a Recovery Disk or to recover to factory default due to software not available for my model. Now the repair disk has got corrupted or damaged.
What do I do now? Continue operating on Safe mode due to the inefficiency of LENOVO staff!
Can anyone please help me in this forum by mailing me the disk- I promise to bear the cost. Thanks.

  • G550 2958 battery burning hot in hibernate?

I've had my G550 2958 since late October. Been thrilled overall.
Today, after the machine went into hibernate, it began chirping quietly at ~1 minute intervals. When I felt it in my laptop bag, the battery was searing hot.
After getting it home, it wouldn't boot. Finally, after letting it cool and plugging it in to AC, it started up. Battery was completely depleted. The machine had only been in hibernate for two hours, so I was surprised.
I've had battery woes before on much older machines. I'm quite concerned that this would be happening so early.
Should I apply my warranty and shoot for new parts? Rather worried.
    Any advice much appreciated.

Hmmm, so my efforts to call were met with:
    1) A 30-minute hold time culminating in a dead line.
    2) Another epic hold with no response.
Is there a time to call when they're more prone to pick up?

  • G550 sound problem

Hey all, I have the G550. I usually use my edirol ua-25 USB soundcard, it works well and is a great robust external soundcard which provides the amplification I need for headphones/direct to an amp. It works perfectly on my desktop P.C and on my previous laptop.
I installed the soundcard and put the drivers on, but there was an unusual sort of gappy playback, unacceptable for listening to music. After searching through every option I could find, I finally gave up and uninstalled the edirol ua-25  - only to find that this playback problem is now in the in-built connexant smartaudio soundcard AS WELL!!!
I have reinstalled the connexant smartaudio drivers from the lenovo site, but the issue still remains: clicks and digital pops in my playback. The CPU usage is higher than I would expect, winamp says sort of between 0% - 15%. Smartaudio.exe is always running, which I don't like.
I started looking into IRQ conflicts, as that'd be the number 1 reason for this. nothing obvious, no conflict that I can see. I ran a DPC Latency checker, which always comes up as very poor (continually red.) [d]elayed [p]rocedure [c]alls are to do with windows ducking interupt requests and saving them for later; if this is to do with audio, it produces bad pops. I don't know if this is the problem, however, the website I was following said so.
so, the issue still remains; bad digital clicks and pops. thanks everyone for your patience in reading this, and your support.
    Thomas

try to un-install drivers, restart your computer and let the windows install the drivers manually.

  • G550 Startup Problem

    Hello...
I currently use the Lenovo G550 running on Windows 7
This laptop is currently less than a year old
    Problem:
Upon startup W/O battery/powercord, the system starts up and three lights appear, Power, Battery(Unless removed) and another light that looks like a trashcan (dunno what's called)
After about 3 seconds the light with trash can symbol will turn off and the Lenovo start screen will not appear
    This has happened numerous times
When the charger is placed inside the computer makes a rather loud Beep
This problem was solveable by removing the battery and placing it back in, not anymore
    Help?

the light you're talking about is for harddisk. if it doesn't blink after lenovo start screen, you need harddisk replacement.
warranty will cover it, so you can call lenovo support line and ship it back to service.
but, before that, try this trick: remove the battery and ac power, press power button for 30-40 seconds, replace the battery and check if it works.

  • G550 fan problem

Problem with the fan is that it spins up and then down very often. For example when idling the fan spins up for a 2-3 seconds and stops for a couple of seconds. This spin up/down cycle keeps repeating.
This model has GeForce G 105M graphic card.
GPU automaticly lowers the clock speeds when it's not needed. The speeds are (when idling):
    GPU core clock 169.0 MHz
    GPU shaders clock 338.0 MHz
    GPU memory clock 100.0 MHz
Processor also lowers it's clock speed & voltage. (Intel Pentium T4200). Other specs are:
    Lenovo G550 15.6" WXGA HD/T4200/4GB/320GB/Vista Home Premium.
Here are the temperatures listed (CPUID Hardware Monitor 1.1.4.0):
    Mainboard Vendor LENOVO
    Mainboard Model NITU1
    Temperature sensor 0 41°C (105°F) [0x29] (CPU)
    Temperature sensor 6 28°C (82°F) [0x1C] (Battery #1)
    ACPI hardware monitor
    Temperature sensor 0 41°C (105°F) [0xC46] (TZ00)
    Intel Pentium T4200 hardware monitor
    Temperature sensor 0 34°C (93°F) [0x42] (Core #0)
    Temperature sensor 1 34°C (93°F) [0x42] (Core #1)
    GeForce G 105M hardware monitor
    Temperature sensor 0 45°C (112°F) [0x2D] (GPU Core)
    Hitachi HTS543232L9A300 hardware monitor
    Temperature sensor 0 48°C (118°F) [0x30] (HDD)
Any ideas how to make the fan less active? The temperatures don't seem that hight to me. I would like that the fan would only spin when it's really needed. Does anyone have the same model or similar problems with the fan?
The fan spins longer when the load is higher. So no problems with that.

    Hi all,
I have the exact same problem and after an extensive search on the web, I have some bad news! Unless Lenovo releases a new bios with a finer fan management, we are stuck with that problem.
As I understand it, we have no PWM (pulse width management) on our motherboard and thus the fan speed is either at full speed,  ~half speed or stopped, instead of having a finer control. Furthermore, the algorithm is implemented with small intervals, switching too fast between two threshold (5° instead of 10° optimally). And the worst thing, which is really getting on my nerves right now, is the lack of hysteresis management (as soon as a threshold is crossed, either way, the speed changes immediately).
Let me know if I'm wrong here but I'm pretty sure about it.
I'll try replacing the fan with a quieter one but I still didn't found a compatible one. I suggest in the mean time that all of us with the same problem write to Lenovo for a bios release! (but don't count too much on it)
    Regards,
    N.
