G550 Bios Help

Hi,
My sister has the g550 with vista and wants to upgrade to win 7. I was reading about the lenovo ee certification and how it is the bios drivers and registry tweaks that speed the pc. I know that for an upgrade you can't get 100% ee performance cause of the reg tweaks. However I cannot seem to find where and how to update the bios for g550 it is not listed with the driver downloads. Also can anyone with the g550 ee state their bios version. Mine is 18cn19ww (v1.05)
Thanks

Anyone?
Is the bios with g550 with win 7 ee different than 18cn19ww (v1.05)? If yes where to get new bios and how to update it.
Thanks

  • G550 BIOS update failed. Reset CMOS?

The BIOS update from Lenovo failed on my G550 rendering it useless.  I get fan and HDD action and all LEDs light up but NOTHING on screen...  The CMOS battery is soldered or glued in.  Where are the CMOS jumpers?

    Hello,
I'm new to BIOS issues, and this one sort of takes the cake. I tried to update my Lenovo G550 (serial 2958)'s BIOS to the updated x64_18CN44WW_(2.53) bios, and the computer crashed most of the way through. Now I'm dealing with a bricked Lenovo. I understand that there are warnings about letting the computer go to sleep before updating the BIOS, which I did, but I simply didn't look deeply enough to find these warnings before I attempted the update. But that doesn't matter now.
What does matter is that I'm working with a Lenovo that needs a reflashed BIOS, and right now I'm working through the options provided by this website:
    http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/2105-BIOS-Recovery-procedures
I've tried Method 1 with NTSF partitioning (on a 4GB USB stick), and Method 1 with FAT partitioning (on a 1GB USB stick), both with no success. I'm doing this with the 2.53 BIOS file from the lenovo website's updated installer, as I don't have the backup BIOS handy (it's saved on the bricked laptop).
I need some information to help me either fix my laptop. Specifically, does the Lenovo G550 (Serial 2958) definitely have a Phoenix BIOS? Are there any reports of a USB stick boot being used to successfully flash a bricked computer using the Fn-B boot method? Does the motherboard have a Joint Action Test Group port? Are there any 'legacy' BIOS files I should try to use available to Lenovo staff? What's the course of action a tech would take if I sent my Lenovo in for repairs?

  • Bios help!!!

So I got a new laptop. A505-S6005... And I had it for three days. Bulletin board say I had THREE NEW MESSAGES!!! I look and see that there is an update for my bios. Insydeh20 by the way. I would believe that I was at 1.1 or 1.0 and now at a 1.2 I have worked with software for like 5 years. No programming but general user stuff. But never have I came across a bios up date. So I figured newer is better... My mistake!!! Now after some research online I realized that was a NO NO!!! Unless it's malfunctioning. If it aint broke don't fix it... So I did the idiot move and upgraded it. Now my media buttons and my touchpad on/off button doesn't work. Don't get me wrong... I can navigate in bios, just never came across an update for it. I never new that it was in tune with the motherboard. I always thought it was like DOS. (I don't understand DOS, it's freaking Greek to me) What I would like is to know how to downgrade to the original bios version since it didn't needed to be upgraded to begin with. I've look and have found nothing but spam. Please help...

is it just those buttons not working and everything else is fine? if that is the case try to reinstall the TVAP from the downloads tab at the top of this screen.

  • M305 bios help

hello my name is jason, and my m305 satellite simply didnt turn back on the other day- lights come on, no bios. i do not know what to do. i see all sorts of info on the topic here, but dont see anything m305 specific. i may be overlooking it-in which case direction would be greatly appreciated. i consider myself slightly above a novice user and believe i can handle this, if i get some specific instruction. thanks for all your time and help!

How is your name, Jason, relevant?
And you probably don't need an answer spcific to m305.
Anyway, nothing, huh? Nothing on the screen? Plug it in and try to start. If you get absolutely nothing on the screen then, this may be serious.

  • N500 BIOS help/walkthru needed

    Hi all
When I switch on my laptop, I am presented with a very pale blue/pink screen with lots of faded vertical greyish lines.
After a moment the screen then turns black, with the exception of the left hand inch or so which has about 6 or 8 red/green vertical lines.
Obviously something's not right! My question is - what? The screen itself? The board? Any ideas would be welcome.
Also, during the power on it only seems to acces the HDD momentarily before stopping, it doesn't seem to be loading the OS. Would this point to a mobo failure instead of a screen failure?
    Thanks in advance,
    Chris
Also - there are no system beeps when I switch on.
And - the fn keys work to change the brightness on the display.

    @ chris5,
I merged your posts because they are basically dealing with the same problem - one is a continuation of the other.

Never mind, you get in but are "blind" correct?
I think it would help chris5 if someone, with the same BIOS, could check and then post the key strokes to enable the boot display to be VGA.
For example, (and this will not be correct), start system > after 4 secs press F1 to enter BIOS > default is the config menu > press enter > press down 3 times to enter Display menu > default is xyz > press down 1 time > press enter etc. etc.
Basically all the keystrokes required to set the VGA as the default boot display. I don't have an 3000 N100 or N500 at hand, otherwise I'd post the steps required.
Hope you all understand the idea and hope it helps

  • MS-6330 S/N 1700708281 red mother board and BIOS help.

I am trying to repair my cousins machine.  I am computer savy but dont want to mess up either.  She has a red mother board with the above listed number on the board.   From the System Information screen (I installed Win XP Pro).  The problem is that sometimes the CD drives can be read and mostly not at all.  The floppy drive is the same way.  As far as I know the BIOS has never been updated.  Would this solve the problem of reading the drives other than the HD?
Any help in this line well help.  Thank you.

  • K9A2 Platinum - ATI4890 - Ocasionaly no Signal on startup, no post bios HELP plz

Hi. I'm having some weird issues, it has only happened tree times in 2 months, no signal is displayed, monitor remains in standby mode. Then I hard reset it, and then every thing works fine. I have a MSI K9A2 Platinum motherboard with an AMD Phenom II 940 BE, all powered by a CoolerMaster Silent Pro 600w PSU. I haven't updated my motherboard bios yet, nor the vga bios.
Driver is Catalyst 9.5 for Vista x64, it shows my 4890 like "HD 4800 Series". The card is conected via DVI to a DELL s2409W 24'' lcd.
When it happens it does not show any video signal in my monitor, not even bios info, the monitor remains in STANDBY mode, i don't think drivers can cause that.
The card power supply is connected through two PCI-E 6+2 Pins conectors directly to the PSU.
I haven't updated my motherboard bios, this i could do, i know there are new updates for my motherboard. I have no floppy though, is there any way to update the bios via flash or making a booting CD?
Also, i have 2x OCZ 2gb memory stick running at 1066 in slots 3 and 4, this could be a issue??
Its a weid issue really, i can use the system normaly without problems right now, but this is still making me wonder whats was wrong those 3 times since i couldnt see any errors, cause there was no video.
I hope you can help out here, thank you.

Just came from work, and happened again, no signal, I couldnt hear the windows logon sound, so the bios is not posting.
I'd updated my signature with my system specs.
Also i cheked out my bios version with CPU-Z: V1.5
    Also heres my PSU specs
It should be working fine with the card, it has 40A on the +12v line.
I'm using the 3 and 4 memory slot from the board in dual channel, I'm gonna change it to the 1 and 2, to see what happens...
Lastly, would you guys recomend me to upgrade the bios?

  • NEED BIOS HELP

First off... I love MSI, but find their lack of tech help questionable; hopefully some tech guys out there are willing to help me out with my problems!!
This is an all new system, that I have installed 4 times trying to get it to become stable. It was stalling on windows start up. I finally noticed it stalled after adding the cd that cam with the mobo. I then put off installing the cd, and things were rock solid. I then began fixing the "!" in my device manager by selecting the drivers to install from the cd. All was good... except for ONE thing! I had no sound. I checked and rechecked everything with no success! Device manager had NO "!" and said my sound was ok. I started auto updates and hoped drivers and window updates would fix the problem, with no luck.
Not knowing what else it could be I decided to try and update my bios. I was running 3.30, wanted to go to 3.40. Anyways... I am NOT very knowledgeable with bios flashing and decided to let the updater do it for me. It asked to do it either from a disk or form windows. I figured if I could do it from windows that would be great!! So I continued. It asked me if I wanted to save to a disk just in case windows does not work. I had no blank disk so I said no. (BIG MISTAKE) The windows started to flash the bio and completed, then began to restart.
Upon restart the bios version stopped and requested a disk. If no disk was found to press F2. I do not know the exact description, but I figure its asking for the disk I should have made. With no disk I hit F2. Windows will start up, but I have NO MOUSE control!! There are no errors or window problems or anything, except no mouse!
    My questions....
    1) How do I get my mouse back? (its a standard plug n play mouse no usb, or anything)
    2) did my bios flash screw something up?
    3) whats wrong with my sound... errr...
Everything could be fine I guess. I can not access some stuff because im only using my keyboard. Also if I select the boot no errors clause, the bios will not prompt me for the disk and loads windows. However, the bios is empty.. but for a few options.
PLEASE O PLEASE HELP THIS ID10T OUT!!
It would be nice just to call MSI TECH support... if they actually had one!

I assume this is a neo 4 platinum sli board?
If so the bios updates for 3.3 and 3.4 absolutely stink.  Try 3.53 beta, I flashed mine with it and it works great now.
As far as the sound goes, it may be due to the power supply.  I see all over that if the PSU does not have a -5 volt rail it will cause issues with the onboard sound.  If you are not sure if yours does, check with the manufacturer of it.  Also I have hear but not confirmed that MSI has fixed the sound/psu problem.
I got the power supply without realizing this, but have had no issues, the site I got my supply from says nothing about this -5 volt rail, (using OCZ Modstream 450)
I think it listed it on the box for it, but I cannot re-check that now, in either case I have had no issues with sound using either that PSU or my old Enermax Whisper 365.
you can check https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=80933.0 for a link to the bios 3.53 (thats where I got it from)  I am not saying it will fix the sound issue, but I had the shutdown/powerdown issues with both 3.3 and 3.4 as other people had mentioned in that thread, and 3.53 fixed all of my issues, also stopped it from blue screening.
Flashing the bios is potentially bad if you do it wrong, your pc will not boot.  It is not overly hard, but make sure you read all instructions on it or have someone with experience help you.  It is a different process that the bios update done in windows.  Again if you are not sure, get someone to help or call MSI and have them tell you exactly how to do it.

  • OMG Cannot download latest BIOS HELP

Help! As usually I went to check if new BIOS is avail because I've been yearning one for quite long now, and looking at the beta bios thread quite a lot of stufff fixed and added since BIOS v2.10 so it's about time for v2.11.
MB in question is MSI Z77A-G43.
All the download locations are down, getting error404... How can this be possible??
    http://msi.com/service/download/bios-21813.html
None of the DL locations work..?? What's the point with the mirrors?
Where can I download this official v2.11 bios?

Flashing today isn't risky, as risky as it was 10 years ago. If one knows what one doing, then there is no risk.
I yearned for the update because there was a lot fixes and changes added after v.2.10.
And I'm looking to do some RAM OC, so I need the latest bios.
Plus, v.2.11 has latest ME - that is not in v.2.10.
Thanks Yogi, those links did indeed work now (I wonder did they just forgot to upload the BIOS'es or what, I'v read other board BIOS'es weren't uploaded either, thus offered in ?div=BIOS ???)

  • G550 Bios white list.

Hi lenovo is there any chance you could update your whitelist so that the Broadcom Wireless N Wifi cards can be used. I am havin compatiblity issues with Linux and the Router due to port Linux drivers for the Intel 5100 AGN.
My old trusty BBCM94321MC Broadcom Wifi didn't have this issue.
Thanks in advance. i can't give Dev ID as old laptop no longer works but can remember the Subvender which was 0x106b as it bought it of a mate whom had a apple mac that died.

Take it i'll not be getting a response to this thread?, All i am after is either a list of compatible Wifi's that are Broadcom based or the next bios to have the Bios whitelist removed?
I was thinking of staying with Lenovo products but if this is the level of help then well you've just lost another customer.
