ere are the specs on the Mac I need more power on.

Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512 MB

RAM 6 slots total -- 6 are filled with 1GB
(3) UAD Quad cards installed
I use this computer stictly for audio recording.
Pro Tools 10.3.7
Interface Apollo 16
Pro Tools is curretnly not compatible with Maverick. Also, I believe that Pro Tools 10 only allows 4GB ram to be utilized (not sure )
I know Pro Tools 11 allows more, but not sure how much more. Also not sure if the upgrade to Pro Tools 11 I will have to purchase all new plug ins or if my existing ones will continue to work in it.
The platform changes from 32 bit to 64 with the upgrade to 11
If it is as simple as adding more ram, what mode-part #l would you recomeend. Can the processor be upgraded also ?
The new tube like Macs are non compatible with UAD Cards. Those cards a must my sessionsYou can use Activity Monitor to check if apps run as 32 or 64 bit - simply look at the "Kind" column (you may need to select it under View -> Columns) and see if the app in question is listed as "Intel" i.e. 32 bit or as "Intel (64 bit)".
While in Activity Monitor you can also check if Pro Tools is close to the 3-4 GB limit of a 32 bit app - if you aren't you will probably not benefit from more RAM.
Your MacPro (it appears to be a Early 2009 model) should have come with a small booklet showing how to install RAM and what kind of RAM that you need. Any RAM that fulfills the requirements should work but your safest choice is probably to buy from a retailer/online store that supports Macs as they will usually know what kind of RAM you need for your mac model.
Upgrading the CPUs should be possible, but I haven't seen Apple document how to do this, so you will probably have to google around a bit to find instructions and CPU part numbers.
Your choice of CPUs will also be limited by the motherboard and CPU socket so you may be limited to faster version of your current CPU chip and some slightly newer versions.
Going from your current CPU to the fastest version included in the 2009 MacPros would be going from 2.26 GHz to 2.93 GHz. This would only give a modest 30% speed boost. Using newer and highly clocked CPUs might boost this somewhat more maybe to 50% ? -
Hi, I have a Thinkpad T410. I bought it with integrated graphics card. Now i want to upgrade to the other one: Graphics: NVIDIA NVS 3100M with 256MB DDR3. Is that possible? thanks a lot
You'd have to replace the motherboard.
A better solution would probably be to get an eGPU; it's way way way faster.

Horizontal video tearing in xfce and ion graphics (nvidia)
Hello all,
I have arch + xfce running no problems, but there is significant horizontal video tearing when I play videos (in vlc or firefox/flash). I have already enabled 'Sync to VBlank' within the nvidia-utils control panel. I think the problem arises from the xfce monitor settings window that only allows the frequency output to the monitor to be 50Hz. Can someone confirm this and/or offer advice?
Thanks again,
DFSince Devotedfollower is using a nvidia ion card he will get the best results without compositing at all.
If you want to use a nvidia card along with compiz without tearing, I found these additional steps to be necessary:
put
Option "TripleBuffer" "True"
under Section "Device" in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf (if you don't have one, run "nvidia-xconfig" once as root)
put "nvidia-settings -l" into your startup applications
install and launch ccsm, open up the general options and look for a tick called "Sync to VBlank" and activate it
within these general options there is a tick called "recognize refresh rate" (or something alike); deactivate it
try playing around with the refresh rate slider (I got the best results when using the exact refresh rate for my display or something higher)
Note that these steps are only necessary if you really want to use compiz on nvidia cards. They worked with several GTX cards for me. Don't know about your ION though.
My netbook has an ION but it was one of the first ones. As far as I can remember it had no tearing on xfce without compositing but on compiz it had a bit tearing at the top of screen even with all the steps above.
Nevertheless I wish you best luck!
P.S. Tearing has always been a huge problem on Linux for me. After a lot research I found compiz being the only compositor able to almost eliminate tearing. So the only choice for nvidia users to get rid of video tearing is either to use no compositing at all (which results in teary desktop graphics) or to use compiz along with vdpau... -
Lenovo B570e Intel HD Graphics - nVidia Display Driver
Hi Guys
Iv got a small problem, and I'm struggling to get my head around it! Im installing Windows 7 pro 64Bit from scratch. I normally do chipset drivers first, then i move on to the others and finnish of by doing a windows update.
My problem is when i come to install the nVidia Optimus Display Driver the install appears to fail, windows message pops up towards the end and says something like "hasn't installed propley would you like to try reinstall the recommended way"
Am i right in thinking the nVidia Optimus Display Driver should install the intel drivers too?
My Next step was to try install the Intel HD Graphics (Integrated) from the lenovo site, after installing the machine wont boot back into windows. Had to remove the driver package with safemode.
Iv tried all kinds of combinations and driver packages with the same result.
Anyone else come across this, i welcome as much help as possible.
Many Thanks

Problem with lenovo G570 - graphic card
Hello,i own lenovo G570 and i keep getting this message: Display driver stopped responding and has recovered, every time I start launching any game. So basically I cant play any game right now. I have hd 6370m and i downloaded drivers from official lenovo sites, so whats the problem, please?I really hope someone can help me solve this.
Hi @Lefteris93 ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your I would uninstall all the software and drivers for AMD High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver and Catalyst Control from the control panel and the Device manager. Restart the notebook and download from here.
Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system at the time of purchase. This will help update the drivers that have been installed on the Notebook. If you graphics card was damaged or not functioning you would have a black or blank screen.
Thanks.

Lenovo G570 Graphics drivers issue
Hi there,
I have recently re-installed my G570 with Win7 and i see the screen resolution is supported at the max. 1024x768. Is it the Maximum?
I installed these 2 drivers from lenovo site but not getting option of Graphic poperties & Graphics option when right click on desktop.
1. IN1CHP36WW5 - Intel Chipset driver
2. IN2VDO68WW6 - Intel Onboard Graphics Driver
Is there any driver or setting i am missing here? Below are the screenshot of drivers i installed and the options getting after that.
Drivers Installed:
Resolution getting:
No Graphic option:
Thankshi aadishivan,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
On this Screen shot the you provided
It is saying "Standard VGA Adapter"
I think that the system is not taking the drivers that's why your getting minimal performance from the Graphics Adapter.
Can you shar a screenshot of your Device Manager with the Display adapter open,
Also Get the Hardware Id of the Display adapter device under Device Manager as well
Because it may be that the Graphics you have is not an Intel but an AMD which this driver should work
AMD Video Driver

Crashes, slow graphics, nvidia updates.
I've been experiencing the wierdest set of hardware (I think) problems recently. I've tried hard to find a solution, but I'm just lost. It's a bit long, but there's a lot of info.
First, it takes a few tries for my computer to start. The VGA won't post, it'll try to start, but it'll shut down and try again. Sometimes it'll continue without VGA, but not often. It does this with any amount of hardware attached to it -- even with just the CPU and motherboard with the onboard graphics chip, and with two PSUs. After it gets a successful VGA post, the computer continues to work fine.
Until recently. A kernel update from 3.2 to 3.3 brought crashes into the picture. Could be completely unrelated to the kernel update, but it consistantly started happening after rebooting to 3.3. One of three things would happen: X would crash and restart, everything would freeze and require a cold restart, or it would take a few seconds to recover. I noticed that the more video I was watching (ex higher res, full screen vs low res in a window) would trigger crashes. A 1080p flash video would bring the system down in 5 minutes, as would any HD video in mplayer or VLC. VirtualBox also triggered eed crashes pretty often while working with Autodesk Inventor inside XP.
Now, here's where things get real bad. Last night I ran a -Syu and nervously updated my nvidia drivers. After rebooting, my system is unusable. My KDE desktop takes about 40 seconds to load, and then I can't even close any windows, open anything. Black boxes show up around / in windows, graphics are fragmented, things don't load. Totally unusable. Switching to TTY's gives a blank screen.
Upon rebooting to windows (which isn't a good assessment of the situation because it's installed on a really slow old IDE HDD) it worked for a bit at a much slower speed than normal, eventually bluescreening and rebooting. I'm working on burning a liveCD with an X interface now to see if I can trigger crashes from there.
I rebooted to an arch liveCD last night and ran a long test ith smartmonctl on my main HDD that Arch resides on. No problems.
Another interesting thing: upon taking out my Nvidia 8800GTX to see if the onboard graphics chipset (Nvidia 8200) would fare any better, I couldn't get any picture at all. The top 1/3rd or so had a picture, but the rest simply flickered with both DVI and VGA outputs on the mobo.
I'll check the logs to see if I can find anything interesting when I get that liveCD up.I suspect:
overheating - check the cooling fan on the CPU or graphics card, clean the dust with a vacuum cleaner, put some machine oil in it if possible, or replace it
faulty (swollen) electrolytic capacitors on graphics card or motherboard - replace them with the same farrad values, if you know electronics
bad/corrupt BIOS (CMOS) settings - reset them by turning off PC, removing battery, wait one minute, put it back on, start PC. enter BIOS, set all values as you need, save and reboot, see if it works as it should
faulty RAM - remove one of the sticks, boot PC, check if it works, swap the memory sticks, repeat until you've tried them all; test memory with memtest afterwards
faulty VGA/DVI/HDMI cable - reconnect them if loose; if an VGA cable, keep it away from power cables, speakers or any other device that creates magnetic fields (cellphones too); replace the cable with a new one, if possible
faulty monitor - try with another one that works
buggy drivers/kernel - update the system or search the forums for anything similar to your problem
Did you find the culprit?

T540P Dual Graphics Nvidia Issues
I just updated all of my laptop drivers and bios through the lenovo utilities. Now I am unable to open the nvidia control panel and the Device Manager says "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)" for the Nvidia Geforce GT 730M.
I have uninstalled and re-installed the latest package from the lenovo website. I have looked in the bios and I dont see any option for Switchable Graphics. The bios version that I currently have installed is
BIOS Version/Date LENOVO GMET59WW (2.07 ), 2/12/2014
I am at a complete loss as to what is going on. I saw this issue when i first bought the computer and it was due to mismatched Intel and Nvidia drivers but since I am installing from the approved driver package from lenovo i would assume that isnt the problem.
Any ideas?
DustinWell after trying to install everything again it still doesnt work...
Getting my laptop sent back for servicing for the 4th time. This is rediculous. If the repair people were as good as the customer service people on the phone this wouldnt be an issue but half the time they appear to be incompetent.
So frustrated.

Lenovo g570 graphics gard problem
Hello
i have a problem with my graphics card on my lenovo G570 laptop
everytime i try to start P.E.S 2013 is saysmy computer doesnt meet the requirementto run this software
i mean look at my deicated memory its only 64 MB this is annoying
i tried all the drivers on lenovo site
i need a to fix this pleasehi mostafa-tarek,
Im sorry to hear about your concern..
Unfortunately this isnot possible.
The Graphics memory on an Integrated Video card Like this one is sharing the memory from the RAM.
The shared Graphics memory can be increased by increasing the RAM, but this will not make a huge impact. It may increase like 5 more mb's.
The way the Amount of memory shared to the graphics is preconfigured and is hard coded to the Motherboard.

G570 graphics cards...
I was having problems with my graphics cards, getting errors so I uninstalled them.
after just reinstalling my intel Hd one, I did a quick windows experience test & have now got a score of 5.9.
Before I had a score of 5.0
Please can you explain to be the dual gfx cards in this machine.
I have the ATI one & the Intel one.
Which is the better card? I thought before that the ATI one was the more powerful, now Im just running the Intel one, im not so sure re the score.
Im guessing one is for battery life, the other is power.
Im not interested in battery life as I use it plugged in mostly.
Im currently downloading the ATI software from the lenovo support site, but it is going VERY slow.
When I tried from the ati site, using auto detect etc, it said it wasnt possible with this hardware.
confused???
please adviseyou may get different scores due to drivers. if you have the latest driver for both, the score may change.
please, try to download/update the drivers from lenovo first.
(if it still takes long to download, you can try to download a little bit later ) -
Will this tiny computer with the new iMovie 10 work for editing small ten minute films or shorts in HD AVCHD.
I'll get a new and bigger MacBook Pro and Final Cut X in a few months.
Thank YouIt works in iMovie 10 (13) with my little computer.
Ten minutes in HD highest settings 24P imports and works perfectly AVCHD
I love it!

On Mountain Lion :
It happens to turn of my monitor in different situations. Sometimes i believe i have my graphic video broken ! In my town i don't have Apple doctors so i dont risk to go to a service non authorized from apple !
For example there was a day when it turns off when a simply pinch with thumb and 3 fingers for launchbad ...and the opperating sistem it should be restart from power button ! That was when i had Mountain lion 10.7.5 update
Other situation was with photoshop cs6, cs5, cs4 30 days trial versions ...i couldn't buy any versions so i decided to test a earlier versions that can match with my sistem requirements. In all of this three situations my display had turned off after opening a image or photo or 3d graphics in photoshop...anyway sadness.
Other situation : One day i was simply relaxing surfing facebook and ...than i've just simply open an advertising link ...and on that page i was waiting to load a video that used another player than flash player of youtube. Even two seconds didn't stayed open and trust me it turned off my display once again !
After Mountain Lion :
I told my story to to someone who holds an MacBook Pro i5 etc. and he told me to test the new mavericks maybe it's something broken in my operating system.... and believe me after 2 days of happiness with OS X MAVERICKS , last night my computer restarted because of a problem, and 2 hours ago again....why ? i don't know ! Maybe Video RAM or maybe Memory RAM or Maybe simple conflicts between Trial Photoshop and OS X or maybe my macbook it's 2 old...or i don't know ....for how much i used this mac it should run as an mustang ! MacBook Pro i7 Mid 2010 HDD 500 , 4 GB of DDR 3 , Intel built in Graphic 288 and an NVIDIA GE FORCE 512 , 15 inch display monitor , 283 real cicle counts ( my mac was used as an iphone while charging and using battery) ...i don't know what to do ! Please help !
The Operating System shoes me everytime this error !

Thunderbolt Bus:Mid-2010 15" MacBook Pros - the bad NVIDIA GPU
If you're having frequent kernel panics with your 15" mid-2010, or intermittent screen problems, the problem is, more than likely, the faulty NVIDIA GPU found in a number of those machines.
Here's just a sample of a kernel panic log that points to the faulty NVIDIA card:
Kernel Extensions in backtrace (with dependencies):

Here's the "official" Apple take on the issue - but the very real kernel panics need not be preceded by 'Intermittent black screen or loss of video'... in fact, you might not experience any video problems at all. Although video problems can certainly be a portent of things to come…
So what can you do? Print out a copy of your kernel panic and a copy of the Knowledge Base article and take them, along with your machine, to your local Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. The unfortunate thing is that many people have passed the “three years from date of purchase” now and Apple is not honoring the free logic board replacement for many users. Some dealers seem to be making some exceptions for those past the three year mark, but don’t count on it…
Good luck,

Hi all,
I recently bought a Lenovo S410p and wanted to install Window 7 - Home Edition. I faced a number of issues - At BIOS level, then it refused to detect USB 2.0, then it refused to install latest Nvidia GEForce drivers (need to install some intel driver but no idea which one it should be!) . It was a nightmare! While doing that, I realized, my touch pad was a bit damaged, the buttons seem to be depressed, it was causing a ridge between the pad and the keys - quite annoying. I took it back to the stores, they did not have another S410p - Hence I settled for the larger screen S510p - paid the difference. Good service from Lenovo!
Now back home and tried installing Windows 7 - All the same problems surfaced again. Tinkered for a week and no luck! Then I decided to clean everything up and start from scratch. Trust me it worked this time! I am not a computer geek but a normal user with very limited/basic knowledge. Let me explain what I did,
I. BIOS/UEFI Setup
1. You can enter the BIOS by pressing Fn+F2 key during laptop startup.
2. Tab: Configuration - Make sure "USB Legacy" is "Enabled". Leave the rest as is.
3. Tab: Boot - Here are few things that need to be set,
a. Boot Mode – “Legacy Support”
b. Boot Priority – “Legacy First”
c. USB Boot – “Enabled” – Optional if you are going to install Windows 7 via a bootable USB drive.
d. Boot Priority Order – Start with either “ATAPI CD:” or “USB HDD:” – Depending on your installation preference – Then followed by your hard disk. In my case, I replaced the 1 TB Samsung HDD with my favorite SSD. Hence, my 2nd boot device was “ATA HDD:”.
4. That was pretty much the start you need to install Windows 7. Exit BIOS by pressing Fn+F10 and “Yes”.
II. Install Windows 7. This is fairly straightforward. Your computer will restart a few times till you are able to login and go to your workspace. Follow the instruction as per your installer. Once done, you will notice a host of items in your “device manager” (Control Panel – Hardware and Sound – Device Manager ) that need updated drivers. This is where the issues start! So be patient and you need to follow a specific order to install everything – else something or other will end up broken – Like I ended pulling my hair for 2 weeks!
III. Install drivers in a specific order. Download the following drivers from the Lenovo website, save it in the specific order that I would recommend. Please do not install completely yet – There are a few things to be done. Make sure you select the right Windows driver – 32 bit or 64 bit.
Link: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?&DocID=DS037027
Step 1: Download and Install Driver - Chipset. There are two drivers here – Chipset and Intel Management Engine. Install both. Restart if asked.
(I downloaded the files in Step 1,2 and 3 through another computer and copied the files into my S510p via flash drive. The USB 3.0 ports were working after the installation of fresh windows. I believe Step 1,2 and 3 can be interchanged but I did not try that.)
Step 2: Download and Install Driver - Networking: LAN (Ethernet). Restart if asked.
Step 3: Download and Install Driver - Networking: Wireless LAN. Restart if asked.
(Now you are connected to internet!)
Step 4: Download and Install Driver - Storage. Restart if asked.
Step 5: Download and Install Driver - Mouse and Keyboard. Restart if asked.
Step 6: Download and Install Driver - Recovery. Restart if asked.
Step 7: Download and Install Driver - Power management. Restart if asked.
Step 8: Download and Install Driver - Camera and Card Reader. Restart if asked.
Step 9: Download and Install Driver - USB Device, FireWire, IEEE 1394. Restart if asked.
Note: If you have reached here so far, you will notice that all your USBs are working, including the USB 2.0 on the right side.
Step 10: Download and Install Driver - Bluetooth and Modem. Restart if asked.
Step 11: Download and Install Driver - Audio. Restart if asked.
Reaching so far, you are on the right path. Next is the waiting game. You let windows auto update itself – this can take almost a day or two depending on your internet connection. Go to “Control Panel – System and Security – Windows Update” and make sure all updates are installed and you system is up-to-date. This is absolutely essential. Once it is done, you are ready to install Nvidia GEForce drivers.
Step 12: Download and Install Driver - Display and Video Graphics - Intel Video Driver for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit). Restart if asked.
Step 13: Download and Install Driver - Display and Video Graphics - NVIDIA VGA Driver for Windows 8.1 (32-bit, 64-bit), Windows 8 (32-bit, 64-bit), Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit). Restart if asked.
Now you can see that the graphic card has been recognized and all drivers have been installed.
Step 14: Download and Install Driver –All the rest of drivers you can find in the link above. Restart if asked.
Folks, this was the only way it worked for me. Maybe, there is an easier way that I might have missed in the forums.
All the best and apologies for the long post!Hi,
I just checked my BIOS and the graphics is set to Optimus. Maybe, your current drivers is the cause for the issue. You may try unistalling them and re-install the exact version as the one I have (did some reading and it seems like it is the latest one).
This is the version of the Nvidia driver I have - Nvidia GeForce 820m- 9.18.13.2762. Not sure if this came through during the automatic windows update.
I did a quick search and found a direct driver download link - http://www.notebook-driver.com/detail/lenovo-driver-id-24155/.
If I get some time this weekend, I will try a fresh install of Win 7 Ultimate and see if I face same issues as your's. Anyways. hope for the best!
