G580 - OneKey Rescue System

Hello,
I bought my G580 1 month ago and installed my own version of Windows 7 (Ultimate x64) and accidentally deleted the OneKey Rescue System partition.
That's not the tragic part but everytime I put my notebook to sleep and wake it up afterwards it just freezes.
That means the screen is black, webcam light is on and stays on and hard drive is rotating.
I always have to hold down the power button till the notebook goes out.
So my question:
Anybody got a OneKey Rescue System.iso for me or a working backup like it was when you first bought it?

You might want to refer to the below thread. Do post any quries on that thread and not on this one.

    somebody please help me...

OneKey is a system set up in your S10's hard drive specifically for recovering your operating system in case of corruption. You're laptop includes a NOVO button, which when the laptop is off it boots into a hidden partition which enables you to recover to the factory form [as when you bought it]. You must not modify partition sizes otherwise you may lose this function. There is a download on Lenovo's website which allows you to install OneKey 6.0 on Windows Vista. This allows you to create a backup for your operating system in it's current state. You can uninstall all the bloat, install additional software [i.e. Microsoft Office, Nero] and then create a backup image which you can use for recovery.

  • OneKey Recovery System wiped out my hard drive - Please Help with RMA

Hi, I just recently got an IdeaPad S12 netbook.
Last night I tried using the OneKey Recovery System to restore the hard drive to the original factory configuration.
Unfortunately, the restored process did not work and I had to shut down the system.
Now, on boot up, I just get a blank screen with this message:
"Remove disks or other media.  Press any key to restart"
I cannot boot up in to Windows, or even run the OneKey process again.
I know there has been a documented problem (on forums, not in actual documentation!) that the OneKey system cannot run after hard drive partitions have been resized.  However, it is truly a defect in the software to corrupt the entire drive, instead of providing a warning and blocking the process from continuing.
Today is my last day in the 21 day period to get an RMA.  I called customer support and they will only issue an RMA with restocking fee.  They say I have to go through tech support and have the case documented and approved, including physical inspection (if necessary I think), in order to waive the restocking fee.  Considering the OneKey software can produce such disastrous results, I should not have to pay the restocking fee.  It seems like a waste of everyone's time and money to send the laptop to tech support, instead of just allowing me to do the return right now.
I'm hoping someone from Lenovo can help me get this RMA approved today and not deal with tech support or restocking fee.  Right now I have a 3-pound brick instead of a functioning laptop.
    George

    Georgewsu,
Thanks for the pointer on the documentation - I'll see what we can do to make it more clear that changing partitions can inhibit OKR from functioning properly.
Systems with no optical drive like the S10 or S12 can be more challenging when trying to recover from this sort of thing - there is a balance, perhaps in expecting a user to get a USB external optical drive and burn recovery media if they are going to change the partitioning of the drive and making netbook class systems available at this price point.
Without intending to sound too harsh, I'm not sure why Lenovo should fairly absorb the cost of the results of the changes you made to the product.   If you return a product,  we are going to have to refurbish it, re-image and resell at a substantial discount.  When you consider the time, the shipping costs, and what we will subsequently get for the product, we are well in the negative territory on the deal.
I think what might be more fair is to contact support and see if the depot can reimage your system under warranty.  If so, your system functionality will have been restored - you keep a quality system, and everyone is happy.   If you then want to customize your configuration, I would suggest getting a USB optical drive and burn recovery media before making more changes.
    Best regards,
    Mark

  • OneKey Recovery System killed my S10-2

my S10-2 was having frequent random reboots. i thought of using OneKey Recovery System since my system files may be corrupted. unfortunately, the restored process did not work and i had to manually shut down the system.
Now, on boot up, I just get a blank screen with this message:

is the S10 dead? no more warranty left.
i shouldn't have used OneKey Recovery System. i was just very fustrated with the random reboots and thought of resetting everything to the original factory configuration and starting Win7 afresh.  now the S10 met a permature end.
    thanks for any advice.

  • Partition Management in the Presence of the OneKey Recovery System

I am currently using a G550 2958 Model Laptop, from the Lenvo 3000/Essentials Notebook Series.  This laptop came with a feature called OneKey Recovery, which I have used to create recovery disks for my computer, using 2 DVDs.  My problem is this: I wish to install a Linux operating system on my computer, but Lenovo filled the partition table.  Here is a summary of the partition configuration:
First Partition, Unnamed, Primary, NTFS, 200-300 MB, boot flag, houses Master Boot Record
Second Partition, "C", "C:", and/or "OS Drive" (running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1), Primary, NTFS, approximately 187 GB, contains Windows installation and personal files.
Third Partition, Unnamed, Extended, NTFS, approx. 30 GB, is a container for:
Logical Partition: "Lenovo", Logical, NTFS, approx. 30 GB, lba flag (which I take to mean it's bootable), contatins data and drivers necesarry for operating the OneKey Recovery System in respect to creating images and usage of the NOVO button.
Fourth and final Partition, "LENOVO_PART", Primary, NTFS, 13-17 GB, hidden service partition used for OneKey Recovery.
My question is this: I'm aware of the fact the OneKey Recovery will cease to function if I resize or delete any partitions in that I will not be able to create backup images or recovery disks, but since I have already done so and have no further need of OneKey, will booting the recovery disks automatically restore OneKey functionality after deletion or resizing of recovery partitions?  In essence, will disabling the OneKey system through partition management permanently remove my ability to use recovery disks, or no?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi willbuntu and welcome to the community,
Here's a thread where we were experimenting with resizing partitions and deleting them.  I made a full backup with OKR on an external hard drive and made the recovery discs.  I deleted D: and resized C: and installed Linux.  I was able to restore the system using the recovery discs.  The discs resized the partitions and put everything back the way it was from the factory. Then, I restored from my backup and everything was back the way it was when I started.
Make sure that the discs that you made will boot okay.

  • G580 OneKey Recovery Backup Creating Problem

    Hello everyone,
I have a G580 laptop for almost two years. In this February, I had to send it to the authorized service and it came back to me with a new-reinstalled Win8 64-bit, like it had. Before I sent it to the service, I was able to create backup files in both default location and external hard disk. Since it came back to me, today I tried to create backup file for the first time and opened OneKey recovery. I only have 130 GB of data at most, so it takes around one and a half hour. When it reached up to almost 70%, it gave me an error saying "Cannot access the files" and the process stopped. I tried two or three times more after restarting the laptop, but the error didn't change. Then, I tried to create another backup file with the same name in the same folder after a failure, it somehow took about 30 minutes, which was supposed to be the remaining time when the error was given. And the backup was completed, it said.
Now, I have two questions :
Is the backup I could finally create reliable or not? Or can i restore my backup from it for sure?
    and
What is the reason for the error given and how to solve this?
    System Information (if necessary):
    Lenovo G580
    Win8 64 Bit SL
    Intel i5-3210
    4 GB Memory
If any additional information is needed, I can provide.
    Thank you !

  • G580-Mousepad Problems

Hi, I recently bought a Lenovo G580, and have been having problems with the mousepad.
After a week or two of using the laptop, the mousepad stopped responding and made wild movements when I tried to use the mouse.
I used the onekey rescue system to restore the laptop to factory settings and this worked fine.
However, after a few weeks, the problem reoccured.
I have since reset the laptop to factory settings a couple of times and each time the problem reoccurs.
Thanks in advance for any help.

do you remember when the problem started? there may be some windows update causing it so i'm going to ask you to restore your computer.

    hi Kaslo,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
Your system is Equipped with OneKey Recovery that can reformat and reinstall Factory Stored Image of Windows and all programs cam from Lenovo
See this photo Below as the OneKey Rescue system will allow you to boot to it and use the Recovery.
Press that button while your system is Off
     http://support.lenovo.com/en_PH/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT069461
    Note:
If you have Two Drive Partitions on your Harddrive Namely: C: and D: You will have to format the D: Manually after the recovery and your New Windows is installed.
But If you still wish to use the Recovery CD from Lenovo, no need to use other software for Drive Deletion as this Recovery CD will Automatically Reformat your Drive.
One Key Recovery and Recovery CD will both Clear The drive Before installation (Data/Files On the Drive will be deleted)
    Hope this helps,
    Cheers!

After 1 year of using my IdeaPad U550 without a problem, I experienced the folowing problem: touchpad is freezing after about 1 minute from power on. Also if i want to use an external mouse the same thing happens. I tried using the OneKey Rescue system option to return to the original factory status but I couldn't because the mouse isn't working.

  • How to install windows on the SSD (Y580)

I have bought an Y580 recently wIth a 64GB SSD and 1TB HDD. I asked the salesperson upfront if the OS would be on the SSD. He said yes. Turns out that it is not. When i returned to them they told me it's a hybrid drive solution. And they have no idea how to install Windows on the SSD.
I did some research and found out that Lenovo uses *Rapiddrive* to speed up programs. Hence why i can't see the SSD in WIndows as it is merged with the 1TB HDD.  In Disk management 2 disks show , 0 and 1 , but Windows asks to give disk 1 a MBR or GPT (this is apparantly due to the rapiddrive methode).
    My questions:
    * Is it possible to install Windows on the SSD and if so how can that be done without loosing the backup on the hidden partition of the 1TB disk? (so that OKR still works)
    * What are the benefits of Rapiddrive over using the SSD as bootdisk?

Since it is a hybrid drive, it works a little bit differently; Lenovo's "Rapiddrive" is also different from other hybrids, and in the sake of making it "user friendly" and seen as a single disc they have probably nerfed some configurability for the intermediate/advanced users. However, Windows should already be installed on the SSD portion of the drive, this should be done automatically according to this press release:
    http://shop.lenovo.com/us/sitelets/ee/consumer-news
"In the factory we will preload not just Windows 7 on the SSD, but also our Lenovo applications like OneKey™ Theater or OneKey™ Rescue System. The applications, operating system, drivers and other files are all fully-optimized for Enhanced Experience to make them load much faster. This, combined with their installation on the SSD will make the boot time to Windows desktop even faster. Some portion of the SSD will also be reserved as the Windows Paging File — this is used by Windows as 'virtual memory' additional to the normal RAM installed inside the computer. With the SSD acting as the Paging File, general Windows 7 performance will also benefit, especially when multitasking several applications.
The remaining space, which will typically be around 15GB on a 32GB SSD, will be empty, ready for the user to install their favorite applications and files."
I have some of the fastest SSD's around installed on my desktops (SATA III), and while they are blazing fast, keep in mind the whole boot sequence still isn't going to be instantaneous even with an SSD (the biggest differennce you will notice is by the time Windows is loaded, it's fully loaded to the RAM, whereas a normal HDD you may see the desktop but your PC will still be cranking away with startup processes). If your startup is taking 30 seconds or less, maybe even a little longer, it's probably accessing the SSD just fine; if it's taking closer to 60 seconds, then yeah it may need to be reinstalled/reconfigured.
As for reinstalling, sorry I won't really be able to help, hopefully someone else can come along; I personally have never used OKR anyways, and aside from doing a ghost backup I wouldn't say for sure that OKR would be salvageable with a fresh install. And because the Rapiddrive is its own technology, half SATA half PCI-E, I also couldn't tell you if it's even possible to fully seperate the two and keep them as distinct drives.

  • Recovery image

I want to create a recovery image, to create my recovery dics.  I can not do it because I don't have enought space in the D:.  If something is wrong with the operating system in the future. I will not be able to recover my system?

You will still be able to recover your system to factory condition using the Onekey Rescue System (restoring from the image stored on the hidden partition).  You might want to buy an external hard drive if you don't have one on hand, so that even if your hard disk fails (which would make any images on the D drive useless), your image and other backups will be safe.  It is still possible to create the recovery discs using an image on an external drive.
