I turned off the modem but the problem continues

hi jimmyneutron,
Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
Just to check, when it says "Connected - No Internet Access" can you open an elevated command prompt and type ipconfig /all and observe the TCP/IP IPV4 address
Wireless Network Connection:
DHCP Enabled ..............   xxx (value should be Yes  No)
DHCP Server  ..................  xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
TCP/IP IPV4 Address .....  xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (preferred)
Subnet Mask ....................  xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
Default Gateway ..............  xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
- If you get a valid IP address (192.xxx.xxx.xxx / 172.xxx.xxx.xxx / 10.xxx.xxx.xxx) then there's most likely a security software that's interfering with the internet connectivity. If you have a security software from your old Windows 8 installation (eg. Mcafee, Norton, AVG, etc.), try to uninstall it and observe.
- If you get a 169.254.xxx.xxx IP address then you're most likely getting a DHCP failover (APIPA).  check this thread and try the script made by cbautis2 to refresh the winsock and TCP/IP configurations of the PC and observe. In addition, ensure that the DHCP Client service is running under services.msc.

Let me know how it goes.

  • Unidentified Network after second reboot

I have a problem with my Qualcomm Atheros QCA9565. First boot after the installation everything works fine, but when I restart my computer I only get Unidentified Network. I have tried to reinstall the driver, but to no help.
    Help will be greatly appreciated

    Hi MSkiel,
Runned the Network troubleshooter? Right click on the network icon on taskbar, then select troubleshoot problems.
Please also check the following aspects:
    1. Did you install any 3rd-party anti-virus on Windows 10?
If yes, please uninstall them (use Windows Defender instead), then reboot to check the network.
    2. Check if any NIC related software installed, disble it or uninstall it, or seek help at the manufacturer side;
    3. Check your router (or the ISP side) side, if possible, reset it to check network connectivity, some routers may have DHCP related issues that may cause IP address not available.
Further, check into Event Viewer, see if any errors logged there. If yes, upload them into OneDrive and post the shared link here.
    Best regards

  • 2008 R2 Unidentified Network after Reboot

    Hi,
We have two new servers running Server 2008 R2 and we first noticed a problem connecting to them with RDP after a reboot.  The problem was the firewall would not permit access because the NLA service could not identify that it was on the local domain
network.  After updating the firmware on the system (HP DL380) and the NIC (Broadcom NC series) and installing the latest NIC driver, we are still experiencing the problem of being able to connect after a reboot.  While I can disable the firewall,
that is not preferred. It also seems to have occurred after installing Hyper-V.  If I remove Hyper-V the problem seems to go away.  Using a single NIC, no teaming, etc.  Other unused NICs are disabled.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi Darage,
    Thanks for posting here.
The NLA service is used to determine the network profile. When a machine boots up or comes out of hibernation the NLA service that runs using the Network Service account will send an LDAP bind request to a domain controller in its site via port 389. The Network
Service Account uses the client’s domain machine account when performing this bind. If the client can successfully bind to a DC in its domain, the network connection category will be set to “Domain”. If an LDAP bind is unsuccessful the network category is
always public unless specified as private by the user.
Network Location Awareness Service Provider (NLA)
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms739931(VS.85).aspx
According to the your description, the domain profile is not detected properly. In this case, let’s check the following:
    1.       Verify  the Network Location Awareness service is Started and the Startup type is “Automatic”. Restart the NLA service.
    2.       Disable and re-enable the NIC which connects to the domain network. Meanwhile, please disable the all unused NICs.
    3.       The Network Location Awareness (NLA) service expects to be able to enumerate the domain’s forest name to choose the right network profile for the connection. The service does this by calling DsGetDcName on the forest
root name and issuing an LDAP query on UDP port 389 to a root Domain Controller. The service expects to be able to connect to the PDC in the forest domain. If something hinders the DNS name resolution or the connection attempt to the DC, NLA is not able to
set the appropriate network profile on the connection. Please ensure that the problematic clients can contact root DC properly.

  • Networking Issues after Upgrading to Windows 8.1

I have a Windows 8 desktop PC that is working fine with my network.  I can browse the Internet fine using all major browsers etc.  After upgrading to Windows 8.1 through the Windows Store I noticed that my wired networking was not working correctly.
The status of the network does not change (i.e. it doesn't change to Limited Connectivity) however browsing to sites in Chrome, IE or Firefox doesn't work as well as Windows 8.
IE11 gives me the error "This page can't be displayed, make sure the web address is correct" and other browsers give a similar error.  I normally have to refresh 2-3 times to get a new page to load, sometimes even more.  Everything works
fine from a laptop connected at the same time so it isn't an network issue with my provider.
I thought this might be a driver issue with the two on-board Marvell wired network adapters.   I wasn't able to rollback the driver to older versions I found on the Internet.  I then purchased another network card, Intel Desktop gigabit and the
issue still persists with that adapter.  I then tried a USB wireless adapter and the issue still persists using wifi with the wired adapters disabled.  I tried a new network cable and no luck either.  I also tried resetting the IP stack using
    the various netsh commands.
After that I thought I might try reset the Windows 8.1 PC, however that didn't work as I didn't have the restore image available as I upgraded from the Windows Store.  I then tried installing Windows 8.1 fresh using a ISO with my Windows 8 key using
some of the recent guides that are available.  That all worked but it didn't fix the networking issues.
I re-installed Windows 8.0 and the networking is now fixed and back to working normal again.  I'd like to try again but I think I will have the same problems.  I can't imagine why this would be a driver issue as I tried 3 different network adapters
and two installs of Windows 8.1.  Any ideas what would be the cause of the Windows 8.1 issue?

    HI,
Since this issue only occurred in the your desktop PC, and many network adapters you tried, failed, thus I think maybe we should focus on the model of your desktop PC, I suggest you update the BIOS and chipset from the manufacture to improve
    the performance of win8.1.
Please also test this issue in safe mode with networking.

The issue occurs in safe mode as well under Windows 8.1.  The motherboard is an Asus P5B Premium, however it works on Windows 8.  How would I update the chipset when booted into Windows 8.1?  In Device Manager it wasn't allowing me to update
the network drivers as they were newer versions already installed.
Edit:  I also installed at Intel Chipset Device software dated 8/8/2013 with version 9.4.0.1026 and the issue still occurs.  I am also running the latest BIOS that is available.

Hello, got a problem connecting to my wifi: every time I start up my Laptop (5 year old Toshiba Satellite L300) the wificonnections are listed but windows is unable to connect to the WIFI. Wificonnection states unable to connect, after running Windows Network
Control the issue is found en the WIFI connects correctly.
I need to run the troubleshooter every time after staring up windows in order to get my wifi running, this is rather annoying..
Does anybody have a solution? I downloaded and installed the latest driver from intel, and also tried to enter below without any improvement.
netsh winsock reset catalog (reset winsock entries)
netsh int ip reset reset.log hit (reset TCP/IP stack)
     see below error report:

    Hi,
With the google translate, It seems that you are facing with the following problem:
A network cable is not connected correctly or may be damaged
Problem with wireless adapter or access point
For this issue, I suggest you try the following steps:
Try with another account, or test with another system, another cable.
    Reinstall network adapter.
Open  Device Manager then Network Adaptors, find the wireless NIC and choose properties then open the power management tab and uncheck the one that says "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

  • Network share shortcut vanished windows 8.1 after microsoft updates

After updating a windows 8.1 desktop, the user complained that all of their "shortcuts" - which upon investigation are user created shortcuts to network share locations - are gone.    We searched for the shortcuts to see if the user somehow
deleted or moved them, but they do not seem to be anywhere.
After reading several posts on disappearing shortcuts, the most likely suspect seems to be the automatic maintenance that windows performs, which includes removing unused or broken links.   As these links were not broken or unused, I would like to find
out how the maintenance system identifies shortcuts that should be removed.   Also, is there a report that shows what was removed?   And is this report in a location that can be accessed remotely (\\computername\c$\users\username\... or something
like this or through the event viewer connected to the remote computer).
I do not want to disable the automatic maintenance, but I also don't want this to occur to other users, or repeat with this one.
    Please advise.
    Fred Zilz

    Hi Fred Zilz,
Here is an article talking about the shortcut missing when using System Maintenance troubleshooter:
See this KB(Applies to Windows 7):Desktop shortcuts disappear in Windows 7
For automatic maintenance in Windows 8, please see:
    Automatic Maintenance.
If we are sure the shortcuts are removed by automatic maintenance, we may take use of File history to restore the shortcuts back.
Restore files or folders using File History

  • Unidentified Network appears every Windows 7 reboot and stops NW access

I have an HP Pavillion PC which had Windows Vista Home Premium with all patches up to date. I upgraded to Windows 7 last weekend and ever since every time I reboot NW access fails. In Network Sharing there are 2 networks "Network 2" and "Unidentified Network". I have to disable the NW Adapter and enable each time to get rid of the "Unidentified Network" and recover NW access.
    How can I fix this?

    Hi,
You can also try the following steps to troubleshoot the issue.
    1. Bypass the router and connect to cable modem directly for a test. Do you need disable Local Area Connection now? If so, please let me know. Otherwise, please upgrade the router firmware and then connect to router again.
    2. Temporarily turn off firewall on the machine and router (If it has).
    3. Upgrade the NIC driver.
    4. Restart the computer to Safe Mode with Networking to check the result.
    5. Configure the connection to obtain an IP address automatically
    =======================================
    a. Click "Start", input "NCPA.CPL" (without quotation marks) to Start Search bar and press "Enter".
    b. Right-click the network connection and click "Properties".
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    c. Click to highlight "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)" and click "Properties".
    d. Check "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically".
    e. Click "OK".
    f. Click to highlight "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and click "Properties".
    g. Check "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically".
    h. Click "OK".
    i. Reboot the computer.
    What's the result now?

  • Unidentified network" with Server 2012 R2 and windows 8- Domain & NIC teaming

i have problem with my network ,before that i had just my domain but now some servers  specially win 2012 detect a network (name:network 4)
my 2012 windows server cannot be joined to doman also windows 8,but sometimes this problem solves without any troubleshooting and i can join again
    what can be problem
    S.Sanadi

    Hi S.Sanadi,
According to your description, my understanding is that “Unidentified Network” causes problem with joining domain, and this problem will be resolved automatically.
If there is no default gateway or the default gateway is useless, the network will be identified as unknown. Check to see if the IP configuration is correct when the network identified unknown. Open command prompt and type:
    Ipconfig /all
If the parameter is correct, try to ping IP address of default gateway and check to see if it works well.
Besides, if the connection should be identified as a Domain network and is not, then the likely causes are failure to contact DNS servers or domain controllers on that interface. Ping the IP address of DNS server and DC to make sure that these resources
    are available.

  • Lost 5 GHz wireless network access after upgrading to Windows 10

Hello, Lost the ability to connect to (and see) my 5GHz wireless network after upgrading Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 on my Yoga 2 13. I have tried to update the wireless driver to the latest version. The WiFi card is the original Wireless-N 7260 that was installed when I bought the computer. I know for a fact that I was able to use 5GHz networks Before as I can see my saved networks and I can clearly see that I have my 5GHz network in that list. Please advice, Patrik

Good to see it fixed itself. One setting that can block Windows 10 from seeing the WD My Cloud and other devices/computers on the network is the "network location type". During the upgrade or install to Windows 10 one may not quite understand what they are reading when, or if, asked which kind of network they are connecting to. If they select "no" on that particular screen (example below), Windows 10 will block access to certain local devices possibly including the WD My Cloud. The following link gives a general overview of the issue and ways to fix it if one made the wrong selection: Change network location type (Public or Private) in Windows 10

  • G580(2189) Wi-Fi doesn't want to connect to a network after sleep.

    Hi.
My G580(2189) don't want to connect to a Wi-Fi network after sleep. It's not just my network at home, but at work and other points of interest as well. It usually after a reboot it works again. And sometimes, al tho rarely after just going back to sleep and waking it up again.
I've tried updating drivers, but always been confused to what hardware is being used in this laptop since it just says "broadcom" or something.
I did update my device to Win 8.1. But I'm pretty sure I had this problem before that tho.
And I tried to contact Lenovo support, since I'm not really a forum-kind-of-guy. But their support site it so confusing for simple person to person contact.
Tanks in advance for any advice.

  • Unable to connect to network/Internet: Invalid IP configuation / Unidentified Network

Okay, I've got a really strange problem. I haven't been able to find a solution online (well, I found a lot of "solutions" but none of them have worked so far), and the IT company I work with hasn't had a solution either. We're all completely baffled.
I have 2 brand new computers (both are Windows 8 Pro machines that were downgraded to Windows 7 Pro prior to me receiving them), I took them out of the box yesterday. I was planning to get software installed on the first one today. However, I have not been
able to put the computer on the network properly (not even long enough to make it part of the domain). After trying to make the first computer work for a few hours, I tried the second - same problem.
Here's what I'm encountering: Whenever the network is active, the status reads "unidentified network - no Internet access". If I run "diagnose" on the network connection, it tells me that the "local area connection doesn't have a
    valid ip configuration".
I have tried a lot of possible solutions, including (but not limited to):
    Disabling/Re-enabling the network connection
3 different Ethernet cables (including 2 that were pulled out of the back of other - Windows XP - computers that are functioning properly)
    Countless restarts
Unplugging everything for about 3 hours and then trying again
    Repairing TCP/IP
    ROUTE DELETE 0.0.0.0
Manually assigning an IP address (though I'm not confidant I had the correct information)
Updating the drivers (up to date - though it has no Internet connection, so who knows for sure)
Restarting our server (that powers the domain)
Uninstalling McAfee (this was preinstalled on the machines)
    Disabling the Windows Firewall
Checking startup services for some odd looking ID string service.
    Disabling TCP/IPv6
    sfc /scannow
This office currently has 5 Windows XP computers, 4 Windows 7 computers, and various other wired and wireless devices that aren't having any trouble connecting to the network. It's just these two new computers.
Can anyone offer advice? I'd be interested in knowing what the correct default IP configuration is for the computers (or how to learn it). Ipconfig doesn't help - there doesn't seem to be an IP address assigned.

    Hi JoshLindquist,
Please explain a bit about the following questions:
    1. Do you means that when you run “ipconfig -all”, there are no IP address assigned to these two computer or we got 169.xx.xx.xx IP?
    2. Do you use the DHCP server to assign the IP address?
If you use the DHCP server, please contact the IT system admin to check if we need to add the MAC address to the allow list.
For more information about allow list, please refer to the following blog.
