G585 cursor will suddenly jump

I bought the G585 laptop yesterday and I'm ready to throw it through the window!!!!
A couple of things if you could help........
1.  When I am typing, the cursor will suddenly jump up a line/up the page etc.  It is most frustrating!!  How can I stop this?
2. Now and again when I type, the work suddenly highlights itself?
I am going to scream in a minute, because I have typed this message three times already because the flippin cursor keeps moving up...................and it has just deleted a whole line I typed!!!!
Please can you help..............oh and by the way, I am not very technical, so please keep your replies "simple"!ha ha
Thanks

Kerry03, welcome to the forum,
you probably need to reduce the sensitivity of the touchpad tapping function or turn it off in the touchpad properties. (Control Panel > Mouse).
You'll find a few more cases of this having happened if you search the boards .
Hope this helps

  • While typing the cursor will suddenly move to another sentence?

When typing a sentence on any page, the cursor will move to another part of the paragraph or sentence and start typing THERE. It happens EVERY TIME I use Firefox but never with IE7.

  • Why does my cursor suddenly jump to the bottom left of my screen?

Using a Magic Trackpad with a Macbook 5.1 running Snow Leopard.
Occassionally I'll click and the cursor will suddenly jump to the bottom left of the screen. (Sometimes opening the App Store or flicking to Finder!)
    Anyone got any ideas?

I've had this problem since I bought it. I use a Mac Pro and the Magic Track Pad has become an $80 coaster. It's erratic and impossible to use for more than a few minutes. Good luck getting an answer, I've been looking for some time and then gave up.

  • Safari 4.0.4 will suddenly reload previous page while I'm reading new page

I'll be happily reading down a column of text on a webpage and suddenly the browser will load the previous page as if I'd hit the back button.
    Any ideas?

I am having the same problem with my wireless mouse! It has been happening for months, since I bought my iMac in November. The mouse was, obviously, included with my purchase. I keep forgetting to complain about the problem, until today when this odd occurrence happened for the 500th time.
Sometimes, not always, a page I am reading will suddenly jump back a page when I reach for the mouse to slide it. I have not clicked anything, nor have I touched anything on the keyboard. It is random, and when it happens as I am composing text it is incredibly maddening! How do I make this stop? I have checked my setting and all are compatible.

  • My iPad mini is unstable.  It will suddenly start jumping around apps and go to the search feature where random keys flash.  I've restored it to factory twice.   No change.  Any ideas?

My iPad mini is unstable.  It will suddenly start jumping around apps, flashing, won't stay on app I was using.  I've restored to factory twice.  No luck.  Any ideas?

I have had exactly the same problem now with two mini iPads.  Everything was tried; 1) restarting; 2) restoring factory settings etc.  NONE worked.  Eventually Apple agreed to replace it.  I have had the replacement now for two to three months and exactly the same thing is happening again. So off to Apple tomorrow to get another replacement.
I am quite a heavy user of the iPad so wonder if this is something to do with the fault.
It is so frustrating as sometimes reset works, and then after 10/20/30/40 minutes (you pick) it goes unstable again.

  • Cursor suddenly jumps to upper left corner

I have tried to do a search for this, but most of what I looked at did not seem to fit exactly. I have a desktop iMac G4, the "lamp" style one. Every so often the cursor suddenly jumps up to the upper left corner. I cannot figure out anything I am doing or anything that I might have downloaded that could cause it. It seems to be getting more frequent. I have repaired permissions, run macjanitor.
Does anyone have any suggestions? It is hardly a life or death issue, but it is annoying.
    Many thanks in advance.

You did not mention checking a couple of other items:
    1) Check you mouse connection - unplug/replug. Have you tried using a different USB port to see if you can duplicate the problem? Make sure you don't have fuzz, dust and other assorted ca-ca under the mouse.
    2) Check your preferences - System preferences>Keyboard & Mouse. Make adjustments and see if that helps.
    3) You might also wish to toss your systempreferences.plist found in your Home>Library>Preferences
    Hopes this helps.

  • Sudden Jump in Broadband usage

This month I have experienced a sudden jump in my usage. My average daily usage has approximately doubled.
Yesterday usage was 2.1GB .... Have data traffic monitors running on my iPads and PC's and I have an enormous discrepancy.
My Internet WiFi is shutdown between 22:30 and 7:30 every day.
Usual average monthly usage is 30.04GB ..... so far this month I am at 22.5GB as of the 12/6/15.
Clearly, my worry is that my 40GB will be exceed and subsequently be charged for what I perceive to be bandwidth I have not used.
Where can I find out WHEN my Internet (as in time of day) is being used and ideally how much traffic has been generated during that period (on an hourly basis would suffice)

Unless I can resolve this, I guess the only answer is to cancel my BT Broadband and move to an unlimited package with another provider.
All I ask is for some basic information, breakdown of usage during 24 hours, how difficult can this be ! Any breakdown !
Call me cynical, but what better way to force users onto the more expensive unlimited packages in order the save going over their monthly limit. Had BT broadband for I think 3 years now and never once gone over my monthly limit.
Something is wrong and all I want is the answer to a simple request from BT.
Like I mentioned before, I know that their recording of user data is flawed.

  • As I'm typing, the text cursor jumndps arou -- jumps around. (See?).

    Hep me...
I've got a TiBook PB, v10.4.11 combo update. Maxed-out RAM.
But as I'm typing, alot of times the text cursor will jump to a completely different place & what I was typing winds up getting typed out into the middle of some other word. OK.. just now. The period I typed after the last word in the last sentence. The cursor jumped up to the "Subject" line & put a period after the "(See?)" I wrote.
Any suggestions from anyone as to what I can do to eliminate this problem?
    TIA....

    'llllllllo, ya'll
Kevin here, the guy who originated this thread.
I installed & ran AppleJack. Love it. Does base-level fixin', the best kind.
I just hope I don't have to use it someday 'cause nothin' shows up...... <knockknock on wood>.
I am now, BTW, typing along happily WITHOUT the golldarned cursor jumpin' all over the place as it did before (I mean, anywhere on the screen! I cussed...).
    I figgered it out.
It WAS a software issue. Fortunately. NOT a keyboard, ribbon cable, blabla whathaveyou hardware prob.
It seeeeeeems that my some of my SideTrack settings were not only conflicting with OSX's Keyboard/Mouse/Trackpad pref, but SideTrack itself needed some tweaking & experimenting with, too. And finally, I got it all right.
The v I had then & currently have is 1.4.1, which is fine, not a particular prob with that v, but I DLd the newest v1.60 tonight & I am very anxious to get it loaded up, because my 1.4.1 is not activating my PB trackpad's 4 "tap corners" properly at all. Which I think would be very handy to have (My attempted setup: TL:Left mouse button, TR:Rt btn, BR:Mid (wheel) btn, BL:Keystroke: "Enter"). Played around, experimented, just couldn't get the durned thing to work right consistently. And ya, I disabled any possible competing settings in the OSX KB/Mouse pref beforehand...
    So........
For any of you out there who may be having the same kinds of flaky-cursor actions when typing, click on your SideTrack pref icon first, if you've got SD. Specifically within that pref, go to the "Accuracy" subwindow. There, under "Filtering," I have checkmark-enabled all options except "Ignore trackpad when mouse is present." Basically, the "Filtering" settings all intercept keystrokes, or perhaps monitors keystrokes AND trackpad signals together, and with the settings I have enabled & set some of the variable ones to, my eduguess is that the Filtering settings puts a higher priority of sorts on keyboard inputs vs coincidental accidental trackpad inputs. Which, I've noticed, sometimes gives the appearance of letters, etc. a microsecond, though noticeable, of a delay.
The odd thing about all this is that I could tap a keyboard key with a single finger from directly above the keyboard -my hand's nowhere near the trackpad- and the cursor would STILL jump all over the screen. But not no mo'.
Finally....... I can now type without having to constantly keep an eye on where the cursor's at!
    Yaaaa!!!
I will uninstall my SideTrack 1.4.1 (BTW, if any of you Mac readers haven't done so already, GO GET "AppDelete" < <a class="jive-link-external-small" href="http://">http://appdelete.en.softonic.com/mac >! It is one of those grassroots solutions done at 3am in someone's basement over cold pizza & Mountain Dew that the Apple SW guys & gals shoulda been doing in their sun-filled cubicles (which is how Bill's House got built, BTW!). It runs in the background invisibly, & when you do an ordinary delete of an APP, a small AppDelete window pops up asking you if you want the APP's associated files to be dumped, too. Which is usually a YA, of course, but sometimes not). After I install SideTrack v1.6 < <a class="jive-link-external-small" href="http://">http://www.ragingmenace.com/software/sidetrack/index.html >, I may report back here with a review of how it works.

  • Cursor move suddenly starts selecting everything; have to restart.

    Hi,
My Macbook Pro, once or twice a day, a cursor move will suddenly start hilighting everything. Bringing a menu down, like to quit Firefox, the menu disappears before you can click "quit". So I manage to quit Firefox, and the cursor is drawing boxes on the desktop.
This can only be cured by restarting. What's going on?
    Thank you.

Well, it looks like you accidentally invoke the function where you can drag&tap (don't exactly recall what it's called again). I've done such myself, and keep doing so.
It's pretty annoying, I've turned it off, but apparently you can't really turn it off. Seems something Apple should work on in another software update
Your quick fix is the only thing that works

Click on the blue Internet Recovery in nbar's post. That is a link to what computers can run Internet Recovery.
Do a backup,  preferable 2 separate ones on 2 drives. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option/alt key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors.  Reformat the drive using Disk Utility/Erase Mac OS Extended (Journaled), then click the Option button and select GUID. Then re-install the OS.

  • When I turn on my partially charged iPhone 5, sometimes it will suddenly go to 0% charge and shut down. How do I correct this?

I've had my iPhone 5 for about one year with no problems. Lately however, when I turn on the phone when the battery charge is down to say 25% (due to previous use) sometimes moments after turning the phone on it will go from 25% charged to 0% charged and shut down. Other times after the phone has been on for several hours and the charge level is down to about 10% or so, it will suddenly discharge to 0% rather than gradually going down in increments of 1 or 2% at a time. This appears to happen most often when wi-fi is turned on. Any ideas on what may be causing this? I have installed the latest version of iOS7.
    Thanks

    Hi there brianfromwestmichigan,
I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps found in the article below.

Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
