G60-230us laptop hard drive lost

device says hard drive not there. Can't get device to work. Does that mean hard drive dead ?

It could be worse...installing a new hard drive is easy...(unless of course you want to buy a new notebook).
Get a 320GB 5,400 RPM SATA II hard drive.
Here is a link to a decent one at a decent price.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148455
Then, below is the link to the service manual for info on how to remove the old drive and replace it with the new one. Keep all the parts from the old drive as you have to transfer them to the new one.
See chapter 4...

Last, you need to reinstall the operating system. So, you will need to contact HP and order a set of recovery disks.
You can order by clicking on the link below and then click on the Order Recovery Media link.

If you can read the 25 character Vista product key on the bottom of your PC, you can make your own Vista installation DVD.
Here's how...
If you're up to a slight but rewarding challenge you can make your own if you can read your 25 character Vista product key on the PC.
Just download the 3 files you need at the link below, and read all of the instructions to create a bootable DVD installation disk using imageburn.
Disregard the part of the text under the first screen shot about "extract the files to the Vista folder."
The files were already extracted to that folder when you ran the X14.exe file by reading the text on top of the first screen shot.
The other thing I noticed is on the 4th screen shot, where it shows Developer ID Microsoft Corporation. I had to type Microsoft Corporation in myself, and then the other codes automatically populated.
When I went to compile the ISO file, ImageBurn gave a message that about a WIM file and ISO, and if I wanted to burn it in a different format.
I selected No, make the ISO file.
It was not that hard to do. I burned both the 64 bit disk and the 32 bit disk in case I ever need them.
I tested both of them on my hp dc7100 CMT desktop PC, they worked perfectly.
When you enter the product key, it knows what version of Vista you have.
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/software-os/w/microsoft_os/3317.2-3-microsoft-windows-v....
After you successfully install Vista, you can then install the drivers from your PC's support and driver page.
I hope the above info helps get you back on track to a Happy New Year!

My laptop hard drive crashed and I lost my ringtones, but they're still on my iPhone.  If I sync my iPhone with the reimaged hard drive, I'll lose the ringtones from my iPhone.  Is there any way to transfer ringtones from my iPhone back into iTunes?

Thanks, but ringtones not purchased from iTunes, created them just before computer crashed.just before the next scheduled biweekly backup.
I found and downloaded TouchCopy 12 for PC and was able to copy the ringtones from my iPhone to my Windows laptop very easily.  It also enables you to transfer photos, memos, voice messages, etc.

  • I just had to have my toshiba laptop hard drive replaced and I am unable to move my itunes library from my ipad back to the laptop.  It says it is linked to another library  and I can only transfer purchased music etc and not the rest of the library.Help!

I have just had my Toshiba laptop hard drive replaced. This has resulted in all previous content held on the laptop to be lost.   I wanted to try and transfer my music library from my ipad to the laptop, but it will not allow me to do so.  The message is that the ipad is linked to another computer and it will only allow the transfer of the items purchased on through the ipad and nothing else.  Does anyone know if the full library can be transferred back to the computer?

You need to transfer the iTunes Library from the most recent backup you made before the hard drive was replaced.
You can't transfer the full iTunes Library from the iPad back to iTunes.
There are third-party Windows applications that will transfer data from an iOS device, but they don't re-create the iTunes Library exactly as it was before.

  • My laptop hard drive crashed, used to have lion now it is back to snow leopard. how do i get it back to lion again?

my laptop hard drive crashed, used to have lion now it is back to snow leopard. i lost all of my info, music, pictures, etc. how do i get it back to lion again? this is very frustrating because i paid $30 to download it and now i am unable to have it again.

If your Mac is off then start up. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the Option key until the Mac and Windows Disks show up. Then click on the Mac disk and the arrow below it. After it boots up in Mac then go to System Preferences>Startup Disk and select your Mac partition as the Startup disk.
If you are in Windows then look for the Boot Camp icon on the taskbar. It will look like a gray box sitting on one corner. One of the options when you click it is to restart in Mac OS. After it boots up in Mac then go to System Preferences>Startup Disk and select your Mac partition as the Startup disk.

  • Data Recovery of data from laptop hard drives

This hard drive is from a T60 laptop - please read below, thanks
    1. Working laptop with a working hard Download drive ( I know this is the case as if you insert the drive into the laptop , power it on, it loads windows xp, you can use the laptop as per normal without any errors / issues etc )
We have an external hard drive kit ( again which I know that works as I use it to connect a multitude of other hard drives via USB to a desktop PC ) and I have another hard drive kit different to the first USB to SATA hard drive recovery kit and it does the same when trying to access the data off of the laptops hard drive
If I connect the laptop hard drive to my desktop PC it refuses to show up in my computer yet if you right click my computer --> Manage --> Disk Management
The drive shows up in here as un-initialised and if you attempt to initialise the drive it fails stating it has CRC error(s) and it will not assign it a drive letter.
Is there a quick way to access the data on the drive ?
As far as I am aware the drives are not encrypted as when loading after the POST from bios you do not get any blue / purple progress bars loading, these are Windows XP SP 3 so not using bit locker or anything like that.
What do I need to do to get access to the data as quick as possible without doing too many steps or waiting for utils to recover data etc.
Also what do Lenovo do to the hard drives that cause this many head aches ??

Disabled this option in regards to the hard drive password, saved this by pressing F10 and exited the bios until it prompted me for the startup bios password. Powered the laptop off, took the hard drive out and connected it to the desktop pc and it mounted the drive straight off the bat.
What I would like to know then is what does it change on the hard drive to stop you from mounting or accessing the data
I haven't played with the build in security of lenovo for a few years, too much trouble. Basically I think the security chip build into each lenovo will modify certain fields on the harddisk chip. Hence the data are soft 'encrpted' this way. There is an official lenovo software that you can install on the desktop to simulate the security chip, so I guess the data is not hard 'encrpted', just scrambled. When you removed the user password, it probably reset those fields so there is no more scrambling when connected to the desktop
If you turn on security chip, lenovo client security solution, adminstrator password, master password and all those junk, then it will be a different story.
Glad that your problem is solved B-)

Type move itunes library into the google serach bar.
It has always been very basic to always maintain  abackup copy of your computer.  Do you not have a backup copy?

  • My laptop hard drive crashed - when I go to sync my iPhone it says that my phone is already synced with another computer and can only be synced with one computer at a time.

My Dell laptop hard drive crashed - when I go to sync my iPhone it says that my phone is already synced with another computer and can only be synced with one computer at a time. When I hit sync is says it will erase my phone and sync with the new computer which is blank. How do I get my phone to sync my contacts, pics, apps etc. over to my new hard drive without losing anything.

Yes, so what's confusing... Did you not restore the backup of your data, contacts, pics, apps, music, etc. to the new hard drive after you replaced it or reformatted it or whatever you did? If so, then you can just sync your data back.
If not, please try searching the forum. This has been addressed hundreds of times here.

  • Can I Use a 2.5 Laptop Hard Drive in Time Capsule?

Ok. So the original Hard Drive is Dead. I have a 640 GB 2.5 Laptop Hard Drive lying around.
My question is, Can I put the 2.5 HD in the Time Capsule instead of a 3.5 HD Repacement?
Running Mountain Lion on iMac. Thanks in Advance!

You could try a 3.5" to 2.5" drive adapter - that would allow you to properly mount the 2.5" drive inside the time capsule.
Actually the 2.5" still needs to sit right next to the hard drive frame.. as the cables will not stretch very far.. but the 2.5" works fine in the TC.. and it is simple since sata connectors are now common across 2.5" and 3.5" drives.
The actual disassembly of the TC see here.. you come in from the bottom.
    http://www.ifixit.com/Device/Apple_Time_Capsule
The temperature gauge is completely useless.. you can actually remove it completely.. Apple measures the temperature via the sensor (a backwards transistor).. and does nothing about it.. the fan never turns on.. not in Gen 1, Gen 2 or Gen 3.. they seem to have relented a bit in Gen 4... perhaps due to the level of complaints about overheating.
One great thing about running it with 2.5" drive.. you can remove the power supply which will be on its last legs and get a plugpack.. 5v 3A, and run the TC from that.

  • Swap a laptop hard drive with another laptop hard drive?

Can I swap a toshiba 17" laptop hard drive with a toshiba 15" laptop hard drive?

Laptop hard drives have been standardized in recent years. So they will fit and are electrically compatible.
What's on them is another matter. Windows is configured differently for each computer. So don't expect to boot existing software on another computer.
For more, give us the models. There is a label on the bottom.

I started to notice that the power connection to my laptop was a little lose; a little later I needed to play a little with the connection so that power would not disconnect; now it appears that something got completely lose inside the connector and I don't get any power into my laptop.  How can I get to this connector and replace it or tighten it?  I already tried opening the cover but did not see an easy way to get to it.  Thank you very much for any suggestions.

  • Had to format hard drive, lost all my local files

So I had to move my OS to an external hard drive because my built in drive began to fail. When I did this, I lost all of my music in local files obviously. The thing is, it still shows up on my mobile playlists, but they don't show at all (not even greyed out text) on my desktop version. Why can't I see them at all? I wanted to go through and redownload them all, but this makes it very difficult. Help please! EDIT: Ok, so I figured out how to see them (I didn't have the "Show unavaliable tracks in playlists check). So now, my question is there anyway to pull them from my phone onto my computer? Or do I need to download them one by one?

Sadly I have to say no there is not a way. The sync of local music files is one way, meaning from laptop and/or PC to phone and/or approved mp3 players.
