G62-340US Touchpad monobutton sticking/creaking

I just picked up a G62-340US notebook last night.  Although it's working right now the touchpad button, especially when left clicking, makes a squeaking noise and often get's stuck in the down position for a half second or so before popping out.  Does anyone have a good remedy for this?  I was thinking a drop of silicone lubricant might aleviate the sticking and sqeaking but I'm not sure how safe that is on the plastic or if there is anything under there that might be negatively impacted.
Does anyone have any proven recommendations?

I have used spray silicone on cars for years, I never found it to damage anything plastic when used sparingly.
As long as you don't soak it, I see no harm. Use a high quality spray silicone, shake can well then spray some into the can cap and then use a small art paint brush to apply it sparingly to the needed area.
If it were me I would return the unit to place of purchase and exchange it for another new unit. Most retailers have a 15 day grace period where you can return it for a full refund or exchange for another new unit.

  • Any Hope for a G62-340US Fix?

Next month the warranty expires on my G62-340US. The model is commonly known for its repeated freezes, blue screens, and other problems. I'm not aware of any other recent HP laptop subject to more opprobrium and, in my experience, rightly so.
I'm here to ask users whether they think we have a prayer of getting the model fixed enough through HP so that it's actually useful. The G62-340US is now quite broadly-recognized as having problems. I not only wouldn't sell mine to someone else, I wouldn't give it away except to a tinkerer. On the other hand, like many other users, I'm rather unsure HP can fix this one. It hasn't done very well so far.
This isn't my first rodeo. I've been around laptops for, well, decades, and I've had my share of problems, virtually all of which I've fixed without tech support. With the G62, we have tried everything, literally: clean installations, manual installation of drivers, installing old drivers, installing old BIOS releases, updating everything, reducing the number of programs running on startup, limiting the video demand, upgrading the RAM, running every possible HP and Microsoft utility, and even more things I can't recall to name (yes, including avoiding overheating). Were I alone, the frustration would be enough. But it's not just my time lost in trying to make this model work. Frustration abounds not just on this forum. but on countless others, including Microsoft's. Would that I had used it enough to recognize its problems and return it timely to Staples, which at least had the good judgment to quit selling it. HP, however, still peddles it to students and others looking for a solid, reasonably priced laptops.
HP support apparently is in disarray, giving customers varying and seemingly contradictory advice. And you don't have to read the forums to figure this out. You need not even call HP. Some time back HP posted firmware F.29, apparently to fix freezes under certain circumstances, but instead made things worse and now only F.27 is supported. (The G62-340US has an AMD processor. Similarly numbered models have Intel processors, but evidently similar problems, and have a different current BIOS.) One third-party support site still refers users to F.28, which the site correctly notes is, as of Oct. 27, 2011, still made available on HP's FTP site. At least tell customers clearly which firmware to use and whether they are better off rolling back their BIOS upgrades.
Is the BIOS fix as yet to be released? Is there any fix? Are significant numbers of the computers inherently defective, at least as combined and assembled together by HP, at the system board or processor level? Whatever the problems, give us a break, HP, and take the machines back for recycling while giving users a voucher or discount or something other than a run around in tech support. Instead, I suppose my G62 will find its way to a basement or a garage. But I don't like the waste in that option, and I'm sure many others are not particularly fond of it, either.
For those interested in just some of the abounding complaints, please see these links. G62-340US owners, read them and weep, I suppose. Better yet, come back here and tell your stories.

  • HP G62 Battery causes slow boot - take battery out and boots normally - HP G62-340US Notebook

    All,
Very strange thing going on, and I've not seen it on these forums, so here I go.
Turn on laptop, the HP screen appears, and about 20 minutes later, Windows starts loading.
Turn off laptop, pull the battery, turn on the laptop, and Windows starts loading within 10 seconds (normal).
When the battery is in, EVERYTHING takes 15-20 minutes to start.  If I select F2 for settings, it takes that long.  If I hit F10 (or possibly F8), same delay.      If I take the battery out, it works perfectly.
So....I of course assume bad battery......but I've never seen this type of behavoir in ANY computer previously.
    Any suggestions?

  • My G62-340US, I just had to replace the hard drive. My recovery discs seem compromised. HELP

On my G62-340US, I just had to replace the hard drive. I made the 4 recovery discs when it was new. Now restoring it 3 of the recovery discs ran but the 4th disc won't. Can the info on the 4th be found anywhere without having to buy a new set? Or can I buy just one disc?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi:
As far as I know, you would have to buy an entire new set.
But, if you can read all 25 characters of the W7 product key on the bottom of your notebook, I have a free solution to install a plain version of W7 by using the product key code on your notebook.
    Here's how to do that...
Download the W7 Home Premium 64 bit ISO file from the Microsoft link below.
    http://msft.digitalrivercontent.net/win/X17-58997.iso 2147483647 X17-58997.iso Windows 7 Home Premium x64 English
Make sure you got the whole 3.xx GB file to download because in rare circumstances, you get a download complete notification but you don't get the whole file to download.
After you download the ISO file you can burn it to a DVD using the ISO file burn option on your DVD burning program, or you can use this tool to transfer the ISO file to a DVD or 4 GB USB flash drive.
The tool will also make the media bootable.
    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool
Then go to your notebook's support and driver page for the drivers and available software you need.

  • G62-340us does not recognize the built in webcam

I have a hp g62-340us with windows 7 home pr 64 bit and I installed a new 320 gig HD and purchased the recovery discs for it from HP and everything works except the  built in webcam and it does not even recognize it is there. I could use some help if anyone has an idea. I went through the HP website and found nothing.

    Hello,
I tried it but it goes wrong while setup, I get a message to connect the webcam and does not go on, setup is waiting and can not come forth.
I opened all the files in the setup with Winrar and tried through Windows and it did not work.
I know it's not your fault, it's very poorly by HP that does not have a driver for something that itself produces.
It would be simple to download drivers when needed.
Now I have an HP product that is not working because HP does not have drivers for all their products.
    A big fiasco from HP!
I say again, it's not your fault.

  • G62-340us Sata III

Need to replace hard drive on my G62-340US.  Can I use a SATA III drive with 500GB and 7200RPM?

HP will provide a replacement Hard Disk Drive if the Notebook warranty is Active, If not you need buy a SATA Hard Disk Drive from a retail shop nearby
Please make sure you are getting at least equal capacity as the original one in order to use Recovery Disks. If you need you can buy a larger, but not smaller capacity Hard Disk Drive. For example if you have a 500GB Hard Disk Drive you can upgrade it to 750GB Hard Disk Drive but not 320GB Hard Disk Drive
Note: Back up all the personal data to an external drive if it's possible. Otherwise you could connect the failed HDD via SATA to USB adapter with another PC or same PC after replacement of HDD & re-installation of OS and try copying /recovering the files. • Can I use HP Director software (WinXP) on my HP G62-340US laptop (Win7) with HP PSC 1510xi?

Can I use the HP Director software from my WinXP Desktop (HP Pavilion 325c) on my HP G62-340US Laptop (Win7, 64-bit)?
If so, will the XP software version run on my Win7 64-bit system?
I really liked the HP Director's functions when I used it on my desktop.
Maybe... Can I just use my Backup or Restore discs from my Desktop to install the HP Director software suite onto my Laptop?

I found my answer!  HP Director was replaced by HP Solution Center - which I installed and it works.  I do, however, prefer the interface on the HP Director than that of the Solution Center.

  • Hp G62 cold touchpad issue

I have an HP G62 a20sA laptop and its developed a fault. The touchpad is very intermittent, for example if i go to click on something the single click or double click wont work, or if i go to move the pointer it will judder across the screen.
The wield thing is that this only happens while the laptop is cold, as in when i have only just turned it on and the laptop plastic is cold. After a while of the laptop being on and the area where the touchpad is gets warmer the pad becomes more responsive.
If the touched is particularly bad I can sometimes lay my hand across the whole pad for a while warming it up and it will become more responsive for a while, almost as if it needs to be warm for my finger to be recognised.
I dont think this is a driver issue as the driver is the most up to date driver.
My brother has the same laptop but slightly differnet spec and his is starting to develope this fault too.
Anyone else had this issue and or have any suggestions.

    HI  Timhannah1988:
Thank you for your post.  I will do my best to aid you in this endeavor!
I assume that the laptop is stored in normal temperatures and not in a very cold room. I am providing you documentation on "Using and Configuring the TouchPad (Windows 7 and Vista)"   click here.  You could also run the HP Support Assistant  click here to look for updates and help resolve issues. • Left touchpad button sticks on Pavilion DM4

My wife has a DM4 2180us Pavilion notebook and lately the left button stick or does not register a click. Looking at it I believe the problem is that its rubbing against the chassis frame around the button. Have tried cleaning around it with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol. But although it helped a little it still is sticking. Kind of upset that we have not even had this PC a year and already have replaced the WiFi card and have had issues with it shutting down randomly. Fan runs all the time and seems to be struggling to keep it cool. But that's yet another issue that I can't find a solution for.

The touchpad is probably dead. The driver can be installed on your notebook with a non-functional touchpad, that is why you are seeing it in the device manager. I would recommend calling HP support at 1-800-474-6836 to have it repaired or replaced.

  • G62-340US keyboard doesn't work in Windows, only during boot

My HPG62-340US is running Windows 7 64-bit and I have been having an unusual issue with it.
The keyboard works during the boot process. I can enter BIOS, etc  and use the laptop keyboard - but when Windows loads, the laptop keyboard becomes inoperative. The touch pad works OK, and the lights work on the keyboard, but the keyboard does not respond when you press any key.
I can attach a USB keyboard, which will work OK. When I press the "caps lock" on the USB keyboard, the light comes on the "caps lock" on the laptop keyboard, but the laptop keyboard does not work. It also will not work in safe mode.
I reinstalled Windows, hoping that would correct the problem, but it did not.
    Help!
    Jim

About 9 times out of 10, the keyboard wouldn't work.  The 1 time that it did, I logged in and removed the password.  Updating Dropbox seemed to solve my issue and it had been fine for over a month.  However, over this past weekend I decided to install the new Trackpad++ drivers to enable gestures in Win 8.  After installing PowerPlan and then Trackpad++, everything was working ok.  I decided at this point, I would set a password for the account again.  Once I did that, I was back to having keyboard problems again.  When I finially was able to get in, I removed the password.  Upon a reboot, the keyboard didn't work.  I removed PowerPlan and Trackpad++, still didn't work.  I uninstalled Dropbox...still didn't work.  I disabled all 3rd party startup applications, and it still didn't work.  I got fed up, and last night I wiped out Win 8 and reloaded Win 7.  I'll wait until Apple officially supports it, and even after that, I'll give it some time before upgrading again.
I will note that when I upgraded to Win 8, I did not do a clean install.  I didn't want to go through the hassle of reloading software and setting up the OS again.  Maybe a clean install would have been better.  I was at the point of frustration where I didn't even care to find out and I was just going to go back to Win 7.
Sorry that I'm no help. If you figure anything out, let me know.
