G62 fans run, black screen, blinking CAps Lock

I went to turn on my G62 today and i heard the fan running and it tried to boot up but stopped. The screen was completely black and the caps lock key blinks steady one blink every like 5 seconds.
It was running perfectly fine yesterday!
Someone told me it sounds like a bios problem but when i searched the forum for a fix it said to start it up while holding the windows and B keys and turning it on. This didnt do anything and now i need a fix?
Anyone that can help it would be appreciated greatly!

Hard reset fixes issue.
But still do it again as follows:
1) Turn off laptop.
2) Remove battery and AC plug.
3) Press and hold Power button for 1 minute, do it thrice.
4) Now put battery and plug AC.
5) Now press power button.
6) Go to BIOS settings and reset all.
Above worked for me.

  • Failure to Boot Up, HP dv4-1225dx BLACK SCREEN Blinking Caps/Num Lock

    HP,
Since yesterday, my laptop has been unable to start up, at all. When I turn on the power button, the fans start to run, but there is no backlight on the monitor at all, just the audio system on the keyboard with continous blinking lights on both Caps Lock and Num Lock. These lights continue to blink forever until I am forced to shut the computer off.
The HP model is Dv4-1225dx, was running Vista.
Could I get some help to resolve this problem?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Although I hope you already resolved this issue I do have a temporary; possibly perminate solution. I read an article that sounds ridiculous, but it worked for me. Cover your pc with towels to block all air flow. Just leave the screen open so you can see it. MONITER THIS CLOSELY!! After 20 minutes or so it should turn on. Log in and back up what you can just in case. You also want to let the pc run a while to cool down. Shut down and let cool for at least an hour. Try to boot up. If you cant now repeat the above. It may take more than 1 try.
Hope this helps someone. Please also remember, this isnt a perminate fix but its better than junking your pc!

  • Black screen with caps lock blinking

I was using my laptop and it was turned on and after some other work I wanted to use my laptop, the screen was black and caps lock was blinkingI turned it off manualy and it was again doing this. Caps Lock blinks 2 times after a pause of 4 seconds continously.
I tried reset and other things but its not showing anything.

    Hi Nayj424,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your Compaq Presario CQ62-102TX Notebook and getting a blank or black screen on startup. Try performing a hard reset. When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices, and remove memory cards from the card reader slot. Disconnect all non-essential devices. If that does not help try to turn on the computer you start to press F11 repeatedly till the menu opens. You can do a system restore.
    Hope this is helpful.
    Thanks.

    Hi wasasa45 ,
I am sorry to hear about this issue.
At first, please try a Hard Reset as follows.
Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and start the notebook.
If the above step does not help please refer to the follwing document:
Computer does not start (Windows 7, Vista, XP): http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01443371&cc=ad&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_r1002_us...
Please follow the steps in the section that says "Symptom: LEDs glow, fan noise is heard, but display is black or blank".
If the above step does not make any difference, we will go ahead and reseat the Memory (RAM) and the Hard Drive (HDD) on the Notebook and see whether that makes a difference.
    Reseating RAM:
First we will have to try reseating the RAM.  Your Notebook should have 2 RAM slots. If you have got a single RAM Module, you can try removing that from the existing slot and place it on the other one and see whether the Notebook turns ON after that. If you have got two Modules, you can try swapping them. If that too does not work, try turning ON the Notebook with only 1 Module inserted and also by changing the slot. You will have to work the permutations and see whether the Notebook turns ON. This is to understand whether the issue is with any of the RAM slots or the RAM module itself.
Please find details on how to reseat and insert back the RAM from the following document:
General document on Steps for Removing and Replacing Memory Modules:http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=uk&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c00262554
    Reseating HDD
We will reseat the Hard Drive cables and will put it back to its actual position.
General document on Steps for Removing and Replacing the Hard Disk Drive: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=uk&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c00649950
You just have to reseat the Hard Drive cable and then insert it back to its actual position. This is to ensure there is no loose connection or static electricity accumulation. Check whether the Notebook works properly after doing this.
I am waiting to hear back from you.

    Hello,
I have an HP G62 455 - when power on shows a black screen with a blinking cursor.  I have tried to hit F11 to do a system recovery and that screen loads the same black screen with blinking cursor.  Performed Hard Drive tests in BIOS and all passed.  Do I need to order a recovery kit or am I doing something wrong?  Any advice is much appreciated.

  • Laptop Black screen flashing Caps Lock

Hello. I have a HP ENVY 17-j130ea which i purchased a couple of weeks ago and decided to put a mSATA SSD in there for the cache drive.
I installed the mSATA drive, but when i put it back together i forgot to put the HDD in.
When I turned it on it came up with a message saying there was no OS installed then the screen went blank.
Now when i try to turn it on with or without the mSATA or HDD in, the screen stays blank and the caps lock blinks twice every three seconds.
I have tried leaving it for 5 minutes, I have unplugged it, taken the battery out and held the power button down for 1 minute, I have made a bios recovery key and turned it on with the 'Windows' and 'B' button held down and it does the exact same thing every time.
TLDR; I put a mSATA drive in my laptop and it is giving me a BIOS error and no matter what I do, I am unable to fix it.

I have a little more to add
If I turn it on normally, nothing happens on the memory stick (no lights or anything)
If I turn it on while holding down Windows and B, the memory stick turns on after about 15-20 seconds, the light flashes for about 5 seconds then it stops flashing, it just sits on a solid light.
Its almost as if it is searching the memory stick for the files but fails to find them.
I used sp65000.exe to create the recovery stick

    Hi,
I your notebook still under warranty?  If it is, you will need to contact HP and arrange to have the notebook repaired under warranty.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.
If you are in another part of the world, start Here.
If you're out of warranty, I would suggest getting an estimate ( and a confirmation of the diagnosis ) from a local computer repair shop.  If the actual processor chip is faulty, this is far easier to replace than say a fault with the graphics chip ( which usually means a new Motherboard ) and so may well be worth the expense.

  • Pavilion dv6-3040sa, black screen, flashing caps lock

Hey all, In need of some help for a friend, her laptop has had this issue for a while now and only just come to me for help. Her HP Pavilion DV6-3040SA has an odd issue with it, if you power it up the display doesn't come on and the caps lock just flashes, it will continue to flash until the laptop is turned off. On the help section a flashing caps lock does not refer to any particular error. I've reseated RAM, tried hard resetting, reseated the CPU and it managed to power up, then after it was turned off, it wouldn't power up again and had the same issue, after playing with it some more it powered up and worked for 2 days, when it promptly stopped working again. Any reason for this issue?

Processor failures can be have inconsistently.  I have seen processor failures start with 1-2 second hangs in the OS to working one day and not at all the next.
The blinking code you have desribed is a beep code of one.  Review the following table found here.

The options for a blink code of 1 is to reseat the CPU as you have already done or to replace the processor.  Since the issue returns after reseating the CPU, it looks like the CPU needs to be replaced.  Sorry.

  • Compaq CQ58 blinking caps lock

    Hi all,
I have a compaq CQ58 which has just been restored to factory settings and everything seems to be working fine.
However, my caps lock keeps blinking 3 every second and then a break of about 2 maybe 4 seconds.
I can't find reference any details regarding this. All I could find is blinking caps lock and booting issues. This does not apply to me as laptops works as normal.
Not too sure but this might be related. I have removed the screen due to being smashed and laptop carrently runs on external screen while I'm waiting for a new screen.
    Could someone advice please.
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi lokyt,
I see that your Compaq has a blinking Caps Lock light. Unfortunately, this blink code is an indication of a hardware issue. According to this HP document Computer Does Not Turn On and the LEDs Blink three blinks mean that it is a memory failure.
You can try removing and then reseating the memory. Here is the Maintenance and Service Guide for your model on page 36 you will find instructions on how to remove the memory. You will also find replacement part numbers if you need to replace the memory.

  • MSI GT683R Black screen, blinking cursor

Hello, I was poking around for a similar topic but couldn't find one, so here I am.
Mine is an MSI GT683 laptop; it’s about four months old and second hand. When I boot it up, I see the MSI screen, and then I see a black screen with a blinking underscore cursor.
I’m pretty sure this is my fault, because when it arrived I decided I wasn’t satisfied with how it was setup (plus it had lots of stuff left over from the previous owner) and I reformatted and reinstalled Windows 7 on it. It booted up great the last time I used it; I installed all the updates, installed all the drivers, restarted it a couple times, and it was working like a charm. I even put a couple games on it. Then I put it into hibernation and left it alone for a day, and now I have the blinking black screen cursor of evil.
This is what I’ve tried so far:
    1) I can’t get into the BIOS. When I restart, it doesn’t say “Press such and such to get into the BIOS!”, and nothing I press works (I thought MSI used Del, but in a fit of maadfobdogbd I also tried lots of other keys.) For that matter, I also can’t get into safe mode.
    2) As far as I know there’s nothing wrong with the keyboard. I can actually adjust screen brightness with it. There’s nothing connected to the computer.
    3) The Windows OS CD doesn’t work. It seems to think about using it, and whirrs around with it for a bit, but I never get anywhere other than black screen, blinking cursor. I’ve tried both Windows 7 and Windows XP, but nope.
    4) I think my Windows 7 version may be x86. However, since it was running smoothly enough, I don't really think it was an issue.
Sorry for the trouble; hope you can help!

Boot disks don't work, either. Actually, this thread here shows my exact problem, and the answer sounds pretty plausible, given how I put the laptop into hibernation. Unfortunately, that guy never got it fixed. :<
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=149961.0
I haven't gone so far as to take it apart yet. (I'm kinda leery of taking laptops apart. The last time I did it, I had to get stuff into this really awkward little space where I had no finger strength, and in the end I had to call a boy to snap the thing in for me. It was embarrassing.) I'm going to try swapping in another hard drive with Windows on it. I'll let you know how it goes.
EDIT: Alright! So it worked! Well, kinda. I got into the BIOS but it looks like my installation might be dead. I don't care a lot about the installation anyway, so while I'm going to try to fix it I may just reinstall everything... again.
I couldn’t get into the BIOS because it was apparently switched off for hibernation. What I did was that I dug up my giant box of computer parts and found an old hard drive that had Windows installed on it. I'm told that I should have swapped hard drives out (and I probably would have eventually), but just using a USB port worked for me. My laptop wouldn’t boot from a USB boot disk or from a CD, but it did find and boot from another hard drive, so I finally managed to shut it down properly.
I’m still getting black screen of blinking cursor evil, but this is progress. Still looking out for help.

  • N770 TF 2GD5/OC Gaming black screen blinking problem

    Hello there,
i upgraded my PC 4 days ago with a MSI N770 TF 2GD5/OC Gaming graphic card. I installed the newest graphic drivers. Clean install and without nVidia Experience. My problem is black screen blinking when i am playing or watching. Screen turns to black for 1-5 seconds like monitor lost its signal. It happening when i click to fullscreen button. No matter if its in youtube or windows. It happening every time. It does the same when i am playing. Big lag and then black screen blinking for 10 sec. Sometimes more sometimes less than 10 sec. I used Google and i am not the only one, who have this problem. Some people says, that GPU BIOS flash helped but in MSI website is only one BIOS and i dont know if its newer than mine or not. S/N of my card is 602-V282-380B1404100829 (if it helps) and my current bios is here h t t p ://leteckaposta.cz/186979270 (just click on the GK104.rom in the middle).  I think i tried almost everything. Registry clean, anti malware and spyware, drivers re-install, turn W Aero Off, UAC off and other worthless tips how to fix this issue. I monitored my PC with many temperature software and i am 100% sure, that overheating isnt the problem. So could you please check if the MSI Bios is newer than mine or tell me what to do to fix this irritating problem?
    Thank you very much
PS: I am not a native speaker and english is my 3rd language tbh, so please excuse any grammar mistakes

you are using latest vbios version, test the card in another PC

  • Nvidia drivers black screen blink

I use nouveau drivers because at first install, nvidia ones didn't allow X to start at all. They work fine, compiz included.
Now, I thought on giving nvidia ones a new oportunity, and they seemed to work fine, except for a weird black screen "blink" from time to time: when I log in, I see desktop background, then screen turns black for a second, then desktop and compiz load. When I load some web sites with flash in it, black screen for a second. It even happened once at nautilus open o_0
I am pretty sure I correctly configured xorg.conf, 10-monitor.conf and 20-nvidia.conf, is this a common issue or did I missed something?
BTW, video card is a Geforce 8400GS.

    Maybe this is related.

  • Pavilion Dv5-1009el - Black screen and blink caps lock and block scorr

    Hi,
I just replaced the motherboard of my pavilion that reported an error as object. The purchased motherboard is new and hp original.
After having changed, I turn on the pc and work fine, i see the hp logo and enter to bios, after I turned off the pc without starting windows.
I inserted the battery and powered on the pc and returns to the old error, the LED of caps lock and block Lock blinks...
So I tried to update the bios from USB using winkey + B. The computer emits two beeps but does not read from any USB port and the LEDs go out for a while and then blink again.
    What can I do?
    Greetings,
    Enzo.

    Hi @shmurray,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand you are getting a blink pattern on the Caps lock LED, when you turn on the notebook. I am happy to help you with this.
I am including the page on the error codes for your reference: Blank Screen LED Error Codes
From that document the pattern you are getting indicates a memory problem. You said that you have tested the memory. What exactly did you try?
The document suggests reseating the RAM or trying a new set of RAM and then restarting the notebook. If you are still getting a memory problem after trying both of those things, ie a 3 blink code again, then it would likely suggest that there is a problem with the motherboard itself, either with the memory slot or one of the controllers related to memory.
In that case I would suggest contacting the technical phone support number at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region.

If however reseating the memory or replacing it leads to a different error code or message please let me know, Although in that case the following may be helpful if you still have a blank screen.

  • Slow blinking caps lock, blank screen

Only had this laptop for a week now, powered it up this morning, hard drive appears to run, fan is on but LCD screen stays dark and the caps lock is slow blinking (no apparent pattern).
    The model is: 2000-104CA
    Product: LV987UA#ABC
    Rev. : 3577-100
Also, I tried removing the keyboard (after the fact) and the video instructions, located here: http://h20574.www2.hp.com/results.htm?SID=5059088&MEID=FAA31BDC-56B6-472D-BA7B-4295B0216628 seem incorrect.
The instructions state to remove 1 5mm P1 screw, then press down with a probe tool in the hole indicated. All I ended up doing with pushing out the "insert" key. I can slightly lift that top side of the keyboard but there is definitely something locking down the keyboard around speaker mute/speaker + function keys.
Can anyone enlighten me about these two problems?

You will need to search Google or YouTube. Even then, you probably wont find the exact model you have. Most keyboard are lastly connected with a very fragile ribbon connector. Its usually 'locked' in with a sliding plastic piece right where the ribbon meets the motherboard.
Again, search YouTube for a comparable video. It might help. Not sure what your inital issue is with the capslock-only blinking, but they do have a code search somewhere on this site. Search for 'laptop diagnostic codes' and you should find something that might explain what its doing.
