G62 notebook won't boot from boot disk

Need to recover computer.  I ordered a boot disk from HP.  The disk arrived and my G62 notebook will not book from boot disk.  I checked the bios and it is set to boot from CD.  I also started in safemode and can't locate an autorun exe when I launch explorer.
Basically my computer was hijacked with a nasty virus that has completely taken over my PC.  If I boot normally all I see is an empty desktop and an start menu, can't even get a run prompt.  The virus is disguised as anti virus software and is trying to get me to pay for their $90 software suite to "correct" the problem.
If I hit F11 at start up, the recovery stalls and I get an eternal blank screen.
Any suggestions?

Hi, Courtney:
Try the free Kaspersky rescue CD.
That disk will get rid of viruses like those and the good thing is you don't need to be in Windows to run it.
It is a bootable CD (which you make from the download file) and using the graphic user interface (GUI) you can scan your PC for viruses and remove them.
Link and instructions below:
http://support.kaspersky.com/viruses/rescuedisk
Rather than changing the boot order, just start the notebook and at the beginning of the HP welcome screen, tap the F9 key to launch the one time boot menu.  Select the DVD Rom drive and hit the enter key.
You should then see a message displayed on your screen that states in substance:  "Attempting to boot from DVD...Press any key to boot from DVD..."
Press any key and the DVD or CD should boot up.

  • New MacBook won't boot from external disk

I have a new MacBook that I am trying to boot from an external disk that had the system from my first gen MacBook Pro. When I restart holding the Option key, and select my external disk, the system restarts again and won't let me boot from that disk. Is there something different with the OS (10.5.6) that is installed on a newer MacBook that won't allow it to boot from the same OS from an older MacBook Pro?
    Thanks

    golferx,
Will any other Intel Mac boot from the drive? If not, it's possibly because the drive uses an Apple Partition Map (bootable for PowerPC Macs) instead of a GUID Partition Table (bootable for Intel Macs).
To check: open to Disk Utility, select the hard drive on the left, select the Partition tab and look at the text at the bottom right corner of the window under Partition Map Scheme. If it says anything other than GUID Partition Table, you will need to erase and repartition it as such before it will be bootable.
Just a thought. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I can boot an prev gen MacBook and also my iMac (current gen). I took it to the Genius Bar and he could not get it to boot a new MacBook either and didn't have a solution.

  • G5 gets grey screen with logo then goes black, won't boot from any disk

Won't boot from any disk, already changed VRAM battery, no success. tried hardware disk once and ran a full scan, said error with Video, but now won't boot at all with any disk. Screen is choppy also(have pic). Thinking video graphics card? Not sure. Need help!

Hi bribiel, and a warm welcome to the forums!
It certainly sounds like the Video card from the little info we have, & that can certainly cause it to fail to bootup.

  • Ibook g4 won't boot from install disks

Got an ibook g4 1.33 ghz combo drive from original owner w/install disks. I want to reinstall original system but it won't boot from install disk 1. Tried starting holding down c but ignores disk. Holding down option just gives me the HD. Install disk shows up on desktop and opens. Tried disk utility from install disk but it doesn't allow me to erase the hd. Is there anything else I can do? Thanks.

OK, so let us suppose that you have the correct disk, the possibilities are:
    • the optical drive is not functioning properly. However, since the disk shows up on the desktop the drive is apparently reading it.
    • the disk itself is the issue. It could the wrong disk, but let us assume it is not. It could be damaged so that it is no longer bootable, or it could dirty. I would begin by giving the disk a good buffing and see if that will encourage it to boot the computer.
    Good luck.

  • IMac 20" won't boot from AppleCare disk

    Hello all,
I have a new (1.5 weeks) iMac iSight 20" and am thrilled with its performance (it does not have any noticeable noise, nor does it have any dead pixels). I have tried to boot it from the AppleCare disk (the one with TechTool on it) but it will not boot. I have used that disk to install TechTool successfully on the iMac HD, but it will not boot from that disk. The iMac will boot from the OSX install disk that came with the iMac, and I have done so in order to run repair permissions before and after updates. Is there something easy I'm missing regarding booting from the Applecare disk? I'm not new to Macs, but I am new to iMacs and OSX. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hello all,
Acting upon the advice I received here, I called AppleCare. Although it took 32 minutes, they did finally agree that the issue was with the AppleCare disk, and they are sending me a new one. I did note one interesting thing. I visited MicroMat's web page to see what the most current version is of TechTool Pro, and it is 3.0.4. That is the version on my current AppleCare disk. I guess the incompatability must be with something else on the disk. Thanks for all the prompt replies and great advice.

  • Satellite A200 - Cannot boot from Recovery disk - code 1

I have Vista business and my laptop is currently running slow and is full of rubbish.
I have in the past used my recovery disc to completely re-install vista and start from a fresh version.
However, i have tried this time and it says that it cannot boot from cd - code 1.
Can someone tell me what this is and how to re-install vista?

Hmm... so its definitely not a ODD issue but there is something wrong with the shipped CDs. From my knowledge this error would appear if the CD would NOT be bootable!
Its strange for me that this notebook has been preinstalled with the Vista business.
Usually the notebooks are preinstalled with Vista Home Premium and usually you have to create the own Recovery disk using the preinstalled tool called Toshiba recovery Disk Creator.
Anyway, if you are not able to boot from these disks then you would need other disks.
You could order it from the ASP in your country or from this page:

    Thanks chris

    Hi buddy,
    > But still think bios is corrupted
If you think so, then contact your authorized service provider. The technicians can check your notebook and try to reflash the BIOS. The technicians are really experts and so this shouldnt be a problem for them.
Here you can search for one:

  • Cannot boot from installed disk on Intel Xserve

    I have an Intel Xserve.
I have had it for some months,it has been working fine, it is a standby backup machine to others and is used as a testbed.
I have just installed from the supplied DVD 10.4.8.
The installation goes smoothly, however after the first reboot. The system is trying to install from dvd again.
I have tried installing a known working Intel boot disk, and this just gives a folder with the flashing question mark.
I have tried formatting the disk and partitioning making sure to use GUID partition and it doesn't boot.
I can however boot from a external FW drive with 10.4.10 installed.
I can then go into Startup disk and set the boot disk as on of the installed drives, but this has No effect.
I am currently trying to Clone from the FW drive to an installed drive.
    Has anyone seen this behaviour?
Can someone tell me what I can try to resolve this.
All I have read regarding Flashing Question Marks is to ensure disks are using GUID partion and when booting from another disk to set the boot disk in the System Prefences.

    Welcome to the forum!
You're missing the first disk which is "Rescue and Recovery", followed by CDs 1-7.
Make sure to re-align the partitions before or after OS installation in order to get the proper utilization of that SSD.
    Good luck.

  • IMac crashed! Only get partial boot from OSX disk one

Booting from OSX disk 1,  goes as far as a blue screen with no icons or menu. Boot with D key for hardware test. Test ok.
At a loss what to do next.
    David

Does Seem so, or the Internal Drive is so messed up it's interfering, try this...
Does it boot to Single User Mode, CMD+s keys at bootup, if so try...
    /sbin/fsck -fy
Repeat until it shows no errors fixed.
(Space between fsck AND -fy important).
Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck...

  • Can't boot from hard disk or from windows 7 recovery dvd

    I have a 970A-G46 motherboard.
I can't boot from hard disk or from a windows 7 recovery dvd.
If I move the hard drive to another PC, it boots fine.
If I put the DVD in another PC's dvd drive, it can be accessed.
This machine will boot from an Ubuntu dvd and I can then access the HD directories and the recovery dvd.
What do I need to do?
    Help and thanks

"I can't boot from hard disk or from a windows 7 recovery dvd."
What is that DVD from? Is it from a previous computer of some kind? Same question for HDD and the OS on it.

  • Though the root disk is mirrored, server is unable to boot from alternate disk (mirror disk)

    Hi PPl,
It happened second time in a row. Though the root disk is mirrored, server is unable to boot from alternate disk (mirror disk)
When the disk was found faulty, still unable to boot the OS from alternate disk, it says it still probe/look for other disk
Here are the console log when I tried to boot the OS

In such condition left out with only two options.
    1)      Remove the faulty disk physically and boot
    (or)
    2)      Replace the faulty disk and boot it
Any way, I can disable the faulty disk in BIOS (or) booting from cd-rom and do something to avoid it?

You can't boot from systems earlier than that shipped with the computer. For example, early 2008 Mac Pros come with 10.5.1 and can't boot 10.5
Also you can't boot with a DVD that was shipped with a different model Mac.

  • Booting from new disk drive

After copying all of my old drive onto a newer one I want to have all the computers that previously used the old drive boot into the new one. I can see the drive on my main server desktop but cannot boot from it. Any suggestions or readings you can suggest?

    Several questions.
What application did you use to copy the files? SuperDuper! (full disk cloning is free; a very good app by the way). Carbon Copy Cloner? Both of these apps will clone a disk and make it bootable.
Were you able to boot from this disk before?
Is this disk an external firewire or USB? As far as I know all Mac with a firewire port can boot from a firewire bootable disk. I think only more recent Macs can boot from a USB disk.
You mentioned server. Are you by any chance trying to do a NetBoot? After all this is the *Networking and Web* forum. If so then the Mac OS X Server forum might be a better place to ask about NetBooting.

  • How to boot from rescue disk

    Hi,
I am running Macbook Pro, snow leopard 10.6.8
My resuce disk is based on 10.6.4
I tried to boot from rescue disk to repair the main disk.
I failed to boot from the rescue disk as my rescue disk (from CD) is not being recognized. I tried multiple options such as holding down  "C", "c", "option" key etc while the system is restarting. Only the main disk was being shown as the bootable option (while holding down the option key when restarting) but not the rescue disk.
I verified that my rescue disk is good. Infact, I could boot a Lion MacBookPro using my resue disk.
    Any inputs are appreciated.
    Thanks
    gb

It was 10.6.4 (Snow Leopard). It was the same as the rescue disk version.
    thanks
