G72GX-RBBX05

Hello all, this topic is mostly directed to owner of ASUS G72GX-RBBX05,  i have 3 questions
1:How to manage lights, previous laptops had Direct console, this one doesn't, and I would like to turn off the back lights as it irritates me when I goes sleep.
2rocessor, CPU-Z show that current frequency is 1500mhz not 2500mhz, I changed to high performance mode, and even overclocking mode, but nothing changed, so overclocking is not working?
3:What games can you run on this ASUS, i was dissapointed when installed an old MMORPG i play (Perfect world international) and FRAPS showed me 20fps/s, im scared thar crysis would run like 4fps/s
I know that is new laptop and just couple people got it but if games will run in Low fps like that game ill be pushed to return it back to Best buy, but thanks for help in advance.

Only thing I can think of is that there's some sort of W7 issue with that game.
Aion runs at higher framerates on my (slightly older and slower) G51vx, and that uses the Crytek engine.

  • G72Gx-RBBX09 out of stock

    The G72Gx-RBBX09 has been out of stock online for a long time and I went to one of the stores and they said they don't have it in the store and that It's only available online.
    When is it going to be back in stock?

    I can't even begin to tell you how fed up BB has made me over this computer.
    This is Best Buy's most powerful gaming laptop and yet it is ONLY available online.  To make things worse, it is constantly out of stock online.
    What really makes me angry is the Thanksgiving holidays.  There was absolutely no discount or deal related to this computer.  If it would have dropped $100 or more, I would have gone out on a limb and gone ahead and bought it, but no...nothing.
    Here is the problem-BB has NO competition anymore.  Now that CC is dead, they do not have to be competitive with anyone anymore.  They do not have to have competitive prices with computers because there is no other major computer seller in the U.S.

  • Watch out G72GX-RBBX05 users!

    Hello people who have Asus G72GX-RBBX05 or plan to buy one.
    Got this laptop about 3 weeks ago cause old one (rx05) was discontinued by Asus.
    When I'm playing games like F.E.A.R 2 or Crysis, GPU temperature jumps to 80C and over, 85C is critical temp for this graphics card, what makes that GPU down clock to avoid any hardware damages, but this happens in all games, I'm disappointed cause I'm not able to play games, frame rate drops to 1-3 per second after 5 minutes of playing, but wait! This is not a Bios bug again, its real temperature... I checked, Asus shouldn't release not tested laptop, I opened plastic which covers CPU, RAM, and GPU and tried to play that way, temperature lowered couple degrees, I used cooling pad, results were amazing, 15-20 degrees lower! Game were running at 70 and little over, problem was solved, partially because this laptop should running like that without any cooling pads and modifications, I'm using this PC a lot going to friend playing games, Internet, and running around with cooling pad is uncomfortable and uncovered laptop parts could result in damage of them. 2 weeks has passed and I can't return this laptop, also Asus support pushed me to do recovery and clean vents, vents couldn't get dirty after 3 weeks, and recovery not solved this problem, they want me to send that laptop to them but I don't want to be month without laptop!
    Then all people who plan to buy this Asus, hold on and you who got it already, you have the same problem?

    In my experience, gaming laptops genreally have heat issues regardless of how they're built. There's simply too much heat being generated and not a solid way to dissipate it all, short of making them bulkier. I generally don't recommend these to my customers simply because it's hard to use them without cooling fans or propping up the system.

  • Asus G72gx

    I got my G72gx around 2 months ago, and since i got it  its have been overheating, Blue screening, wireless problems etc, same issues that most of g72gx users, i called Asus right away they said they will call me back when they will have more information on this issue, i tried couple more times, and nothing, can't return this laptop since its long after return date, exchange won't help cause all of them have the same issue, and Asus won't do anything, so im stuck with this piece of s*** that won't run games and won't run even properly windows! Can't even exchange for another model. Do any of you have the same problem with this trash? Or im the only one.

    They would make even more scratches, and this is the same problem that G71gx-rx05 had but bios fix didn't helped here, and if this is Bios fault, warranty is useless

  • ASUS G73JH-RBBX05 Warranty - is it Global?

    Is the 1-year warranty on the ASUS G73JH-RBBX05  a global warranty or only valid at ASUS service centres in North America?
    Is there a warranty card included in the box that specifically states it is a global warranty? No fine print that excludes global warranty service?

    I would check Asus' website.  MFGs rarely include any type of paperwork in PC packaging anymore these days.  I would assume the warranty is not just valid in the US, but I know if that's the case, it will be different in every country it's applied in and often times there are different phone numbers to call.
    Nothing I post is an official statment of Best Buy or Geek Squad, it is only a helpful opinion!

  • Pulse Audio refuses to start

    Not exactly sure what's going on. Checked a few sites. can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Last time I installed Arch all of my sound worked perfectly, this time it didn't, so I tried doing some tweaks and modifications, Just can't get it going. Downloaded everything dealing with Pulseaudio and Alsa, tried doing some modifications, still haven't gotten anywhere, so I figured I'll ask here.
    Anyone who has any ideas, no matter what it is, I'll give it a shot, I'm pretty much 100% setup (Wine, Flash, Nvidia drivers, programs I need, etc), sounds the only thing holdin me back.
    Thanks

    I'd recommend a step-by-step approach, as pulseaudio is on top of alsa. first things first. is alsa already working? are the channels unmuted?  what's the output of
    # alsamixer
    can your hear something with :
    # aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav
    (taken from the archwiki)
    if this works, which kind of environment do you use? shell or x11? why do you try to start pulseaudio as a daemon , it's not recommended by the pa-developer anyway (at least when working with a graphical environment). The rlght way to start is via autostart of
    # start-pulseaudio-x11
    give it a try.

  • ASUS G60JX-RBBX05 OR Macbook?

    I just need a laptop for djing, movie viewing, graphic designing and blogging. Which one is better?  Should I go to a Mac or stay with PC? (I never had a mac)

    If you aren't playing 3D games, I'd consider a different Asus model.  The G series are excellent systems, but as they are optimized towards 3D gaming, they have major power hog graphics chipsets installed.  The end result is their battery life is not so great and they run quite warm.  That said, I have a G51vx-x2a and absolutely love it.
    Also, most of the RBBX (Best Buy unique) variants of Asus G-series machines are the only variants with 1366x768 displays - all others have 1920x1080 displays.
    Since you'll be doing graphics design, you want the 1080p screen.
    Since you're going to be viewing movies, you might want to find a unit that has a Blu-Ray drive.
    Until BB starts offering variants of Asus G-series machines with 1080p displays, I can only reccommend buying G-series variants from other vendors that offer higher end variants.  (You'll typically see -A1, -A2, -X1A, -X2A as standard variants carried by other vendors.)
    Note that for your needs, a different Asus series (not the G-series) may be optimal for you.

  • Hi, I need help deciding between 2 notebooks

    I have an Asus g1s which I bought from bestbuy 2 years back. I'm going to get it replaced soon and was trying to decide between a couple models. I really want a future proof laptop for gaming.
    here they are:
    Alienware M17x
    ntel® Core™2 Quad processor Q9000 2.0Ghz;
    4GB DDR3 SDRAM;
    DL DVD±RW/CD-RW drive;
    17" widescreen WXGA+ 1440x900;
    500GB hd 7200 rpm;
    Dual Nvidia GeForce GTX 260M graphics;
    PRICE:2,299.99
    Asus G72Gx
    Intel® Core™2 Quad processor Q9000 2.0Ghz;
    6GB DDR2 memory;
    DL DVD±RW/CD-RW drive;
    17.3" widescreen LED-backlit LCD 1600x900;
    640GB hard drive (320GB x 2; 7200 rpm);
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M graphics;
    PRICE:1,299.99
    So as you can see the Alienware is a thousand bucks more and the only thing better about it is the gpu. The screen, the hd are a bit worse but I dont care about the tiny difference. I can't really tell which ones ram is better so what do you guys think?
    Is it really worth paying 1000$ more for dual gpus?
    (please feel free to ask me any questions)

    Personally, I would never get a laptop for gaming, unless it's an absolute must for some reason. You get a lot more for your money with a desktop system, heat is much less of an issue as well. Everyone I know with a gaming  laptop can't use it on a flat surface and either have to have a cooling mat or prop the laptop up to keep it from overheating.
    However, if you are going to get a gaming laptop I would go for one of the Core i7 (Nehalem) based models instead of Core 2 duo.

  • Asus vs Hp

    I'm intending to try out some games like champion on this new laptop but can't decide which one is better. The
    Asus Laptop with Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Model: G72Gx-RBBX09 or the HP Pavilion Laptop with Intel® Core™ i7 Processor Model: dv7-3085dx

    I've been using asus motherboards since I started building computers; every computer I've had has an asus motherboard in it. Their build quality is excellent, due to their previous MO their quality control is far higher than HPs. The bloat ware is another big deal...HP has a ridiculous amount of useless programs bundled with every laptop, asus has very little. Most of asuses software has a useful function, at least to some people. For example the camera login, etc.
    While I would love to suggest an asus to you, in the case of the 2 you're talking about the HP smokes it. Completely and without any competition. The i7 processor is a much more intelligent version of the quad core processor. It beats the quad out in every bench mark under the sun due to a large amount of features intel has added.
    [ tech jargon ] QPI (quick pack interconnect) has replaced the FSB (Front-side bus), and it increases performance on it's own by up to 15%. The turbo boost technology is a really cool new feature...basically a lot of programs still only run one one or 2 cores, which renders a quadcore near-useless. The i7 will cut power to the other cores, and boost the flow to the active cores, giving you a performance boost by up to .65ghz. That's a big difference! This among many, many other features makes it incredibly powerful.  [ end jargon ]
    If you go based off the merit of brand (which to be honest isn't usually a good idea) I would say asus. As far as the hardware goes though, the HP is going to beat it every time.
