G780 - Win 8.1 - Backlight or Brightness Not turning on or functioning

I am running a G780 and while at first I thought it was that the laptop wasn't turning on or responding, if you look very closely with a light shined on the screen, you can FAINTLY barely make out LENOVO as its booting up. Its not that it isn't turning on, its that the backlight isn't turning on or as if you've "turned the screen off" with the FN + hotkey for it.
I have tried to reinstall the lenovo Energy Manager, and then reinstall my nvidea driver (the video card it uses).
It is so dark and unlit that it was murder to simply route my screen to my HDMI cable, which is the only way that I'm even here typing this.
Plugged in or not, I have no way to get the brightness/backlight to function properly. It will not respond to any form of editing of the light. It will display the brightness bar increasing and decreasing when using hotkeys but will not change the brightness at all and the backlight will remain off. Backlight on/off as a hotkey will also not produce any results.
I have had this for the past two days or so, the last time I was able to remeady it by simply turning it completely off and returning to it an hour later. This time we are going on 3 hours without a solution. I hope that there is a solution out there.
Data:
Hardware: G780
System: Windows 8.1
Model: 20138
MFG Date: 12/09/21 (YY/MM/DD)

On a random occurance the backlight has come back on. I can now see that there may have actually been something there and I just wasn't looking hard enough. I can't tell if it actually is or not, but it appears to be in an infinite loop of "please wait" trying to load the windows os.
I'm going to give it 16 hours before I turn it off again. Here is to the best.

  • IPhone Backlight Intermittently Does Not Turn On

I have been experiencing a weird issue with my 3GS where sometimes (very infrequently ~once every other day) when click the home or sleep button to turn the display on the backlight does not come on. I can see the stuff on the screen but its really dim because the backlight isn't on. I can interact with everything but the light just isn't on. If I lock the phone and then hit the home/sleep button the screen turns on fine with the backlight on.
I went to the Apple store today and they "reseated" the cable but the problem is still happening.
Anyone have any idea? Is this software related? Hardware? I had a 2G iPhone before and this never happened. Does this happen to 3G owners? Or is this purely a 3GS issue?

My original iphone developed problem with mute switch. On 7/14 I made the two hour round-trip to the apple store where I received OUTSTANDING service and a replacement phone. In the past 5 days, the backlight has become a real problem and I can now make the backlight fail by simply shaking the phone; don't think this is part of the "shake to shuffle" feature of the ipod
Opened case with Apple support and was asked to "reset" the phone and then "restore the phone". After trying both; problem still exists. Knowing that shaking the phone results in the behavior, the problem is most likely a connector. However, I cannot afford to make another 2-hour round-trip to the "local" store. Apple support has been great so far and I sure hope to report back a positive result from this incident too.

  • MBPr screen and backlight logo will not turn on

Just need to confirm if it is a hardware fault with my screen.
The screen and the Apple logo on the back cover will not power on even though my laptop will work fine with an external monitor, only thing is; is that the external monitor is not being detected as an extended screen but the primary screen.
would anyone be able to confirm if this is definitely a hardware fault with the screen?
    Kind Regards.

Please tell me that it has NEVER been jailbroke.  If it has never been jailbroke, here are some standard repair procedures:
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, read this.

  • G780 win 8.1 left side of headphones not working

Hello good people of Lenovo Community,
After having been trying for quite a lot of time on my own, I'd now like to ask you for any suggestions regarding the following problem: My earphones don't work properly, however only when plugged into my G780 laptop. Actually if I put the jack fully in, only right earphone works, while the left is dead; if I put in it let's say up to 50% then only left earphone works, and the right is almost dead. I've tried it with different headphones and got the same result everytime. When I use my earphones on other devices (mp3 player, cellphone, etc.) they seem to be working just fine, no malfunction. This occurs no matter which source is being used to produce sound (youtube, bsplayer, windows media player etc.).
I've updated the Realtek Audio Driver - perhaps not 100% correctly - however when I open the device manager and check for update of the sound card driver it says it's already up to date.
What else should I try? Oh, as I said my pc is G780, Win 8.1 64 bit, i7 Core etc.
If anyone could help me I'd be truly grateful,
    Pete

    Hi Pete,
Thank you for providing the findings, please check the issue in Sound Properties as informed by “Abdul_Ahad” in the above reply, if the issue persists even after that please re-install the audio driver by downloading a fresh copy of driver from our Support Website and while installing the driver right click on the downloaded file and select “Run as administrator” option to get it installed without any error.
If the issue persists again please perform “System Restore” in the computer to confirm the issue, below is the link for the steps to perform “System Restore” in the computer.
    System Restore for Windows 8.1
Do post us back if the issue still persists.
    Best Regards

  • My iPod 4th generation will not turn on but the backlight is still glowing.

Last night my iPod had been acting up like crashing and not loading apps. I turned it off and then tried to turn it on but it woudn't. The backlight still glows. Any held would be appreciated. :]

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Backlight does not turn on anymore Satellite M70-147

    Hello outhere,
The backlight of my M-series M70-147 does not turn on anymore.
I first noticed this when awakening the laptop from standby or hibernation mode.
At first I thought the screen was not working anymore, but when I looked closely I could still make out the icons on the desktop vaguely. So at first I rebooted the laptop and then most of the times the backlight would turn on and stay on.
But now it does not do that anymore, not even when I close the screen (to force standby mode) and then open it again, the backlight won't turn on.
I also looked at other forums and topics what the cause might be, a broken backlight or a faulty power inverter.
So can anybody with the symptons described tell me what the cause might be?
I'm pretty sure nothing is wrong with the graphics card because when I hooked on my laptop to my dads LCD monitor it just displayed the desktop of my laptop on the LCD monitor. Also the first time I did this after pressing Fn-F5 a few times the screen of my laptop would come on some times. But now it does not do that anymore.
So can anybody with the symptons described tell me what the cause might be?
    Many thanks.

    > So can anybody with the symptons described tell me what the cause might be?
For me it looks like a faulty FL inverter.
The FL inverter is a small part behind the display frame and it controls the backlight.
Usually the external display should work properly because the FL inverter affects the internal display only...
However, the issue can be solved only by replacement of this part.
I recommend contacting the Toshiba ASP in your country to get this part replaced

  • Slimline s3321p display does not turn on after sleep (Win 7)

Upgraded from Vista 32 bit system to Win 7 32 bit because of lots of Vista issues. Win 7 resolved most problems but then recently, after a couple of months, display would not turn on following sleep or hibernation. Couldn't fix so did clean install of win 7 64 bit (custom instead of update) to resolve the problem. But same thing in Win 7 64. Installed the multiple MS updates. MS''s Nvidia display driver install always failed and a couple others I downloaded elsewhere failed as well. Did finally get a recent driver from nvidia's website that installed (9.18.13.697), but it didn't solve the problem. Ran the same as the older driver.
    Also tried the following:
-all kinds of power setting changes
-different monitor (flatscreen TV is the normal one I use because this is my dvr/media machine)
    -different RGB cable
-ran win 7 install disk to fix any OS problems
    -inactivating hibernate
-checking voltage output of all power supply leads following instructions (all within normal tolerance)
    -reconnecting all motherboard leads
-swapping around the two 2GB memory modules
    -various system checks
-tried to install various Vista 64 bit fixes/updates from HP website, but they don't install ("don't meet minimum requirements")
-and more things I can't remember
HP doesn't seem to have any Win 7 support for this computer, so now I'm at a loss. At the moment I'm leaving the machine on all the time, but don't want to do this forever. I suppose it could be a faulty motherboard, but short of replacement, anything else to try?

    Hi,
    A couple of suggestions:
Check you have the latest BIOS update - 5.18 - search for sp40834.exe - often these updates improve these functions
If you are game, try just one RAM stick installed as a test, try slot 0 and 1
Lastly, try a different video cable - It's a long shot, but it could be key to the issue
    Hope that these suggestions assist
    regards davida

I select SCAn and then select USB.  I select  " <i>" key. I do not find any data on the USB stick.
    What gives?
I cannot install the software  on Windows 8

    Hi jvandal,
The CD that came with the PIXMA MG5320 does not include Windows 8 drivers and softare, so you would have to download the drivers and software from our website.  Use the following steps to download the drivers and software:
Go to Canon's Support & Drivers website at:
    http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer
Enter your model name into the Model Name field, then click GO.
Select your operating system in the Select Operating System and Select OS Version dropdown lists, respectively.
Expand the Drivers section by clicking the red triangle.
Click on the file named MG5300 Mini Master Setup.
After reading the details and disclaimer, click 'I Agree Begin Download' and save the file to your computer.
Once the download is complete, double-click the file from its download location to begin the installation.
Once complete, click the I Decline Go Back to return to the download page.
Expand the Software section by clicking the red triangle.
Click on the file named MP Navigator EX Ver 5.0.0.
After reading the details and disclaimer, click 'I Agree Begin Download' and save the file to your computer.
Once the download is complete, double-click the file from its download location to begin the installation.

  • Program runs in win 7-64 Pro BUT will not run in win 7 home or vista.

Program runs in win 7-64 Pro BUT will not run in win 7 home or vista.
I'm testing 32bit software that will run in 7-64 Pro but will not in win 7 home premium or vista.
The 7-64 Pro machine is NOT running the program in XP mode although is is being run as admin. The 7 home premium and vista beta testers have tried every work around/mode, admin mode, and anti-virus exception. I've run process explorer & WinMerge to evaluate
the differences between os operations & dlls loaded but am unable to find the OS issue.
Currently 2-win7-64 machines, 1 vista machine and 1 win 7 machine had no issues with the program as it started up and ran immediately.
After 3 beta's 30 hours of testing & 50 of my own, I believe I've narrowed the issue down to the win 7 home premium and vista os's.
Can anyone here suggest other ways to further narrow it down so as to provide functionality on all 3 os's?

You must provide the exact name and version of the software for anyone to attempt to answer your question.  Primarily the functionality of any software is entirely dependent on what platforms the publisher intended the software to run on.
If you are the programmer you need to go to the Microsoft Developer Network forums for assistance:

  • Auto brightness not working in ios6

I updated my iPad (3rd gen) to ios6, but when the update is complete i found that the auto brightness not working, when i use the ipad on dark room the brightness not changing, when i use ios5.1 it changing.. Any solution and actually the problem is on ios or in the hardware? Looking for help asap...

Well my device is different and since it is a iPhone 5, it is not being updated to iOS 6 but the issue is exactly the same. From my mind this could be up to software but also could be from an hardware issue. The thing is that even if it worked before iOS 6 for you the new software could have revealed hardware conflicts since the software interacts different with the hardware for some features. This would be the worst case scenario because I know that normally iPhone 4 devices if not the 8GB model will be out of warranty. For me this is just a small issue since my warranty is still one year :(
I have contacted apple care for this issue and have get the info that it will be escalated to the engineering team, for further investigation. As I know there was also an issue with some proximity sensors at the beginning if the iPhone 4 models and I think there was an software fix for a lot of them. Hope for the best!!!
I have also done a lot of Troubleshooting, reseted settings, content and settings, restored in dfu and recovery mode, restored with new .ipsw (iPhone OS), restored on different pc (so even this step gas downloaded a totally new .ipsw file), first on a Mac!
Next step wis that I will let the battery drain low entirely, a Troubleshooting idea of an friend. This might empower the entire hardware for a restart. I am not really believing in this step but I will give it a try :)

  • Backlight of the LCD monitor is not turning o

For some strange reason, my Zen Micro, which was working perfectly until today, ran into a big problem. The backlight for the LCD monitor does not turn off, even when I shut it down. The backlight remains on until I remove the battery. I tried to adjust the settings and even re-format my zen mirco, but it is still having the same problem. Please help! Thanks.

Yes, I have tried everything from resetting to reformating and still the problem remians. I don't know what could have happened to it. It was working perfectly until this somehow happened. Has anyone else recieved this problem? Thanks.

  • Auto brightness not working on iPhone 5?

On the iPhone 5 - In the settings, when flicking the auto brightness on/off the screen shows no change in brightness - whether in a completely dark room or with the lights on etc. My iPhone 4 has been updated to IOS6 and seems to be working normally (brightness auto adjusts in all situations).
Anyone else have this problem of the auto brightness not working?

There is nothing wrong with the auto brightness.
When you have auto brightness enabled the slider works as the minimum brightness setting with auto brightness.
If you have the slider too high the brightness cant reduce because youre not letting it.
Set your brightness at about 25% and you'll see what I mean.
