Gainward GTX295 - is it OK for CS5 Premiere?

Hi All,
I'm considering this for a new edit suite:
http://www.gainward.com/main/vgapro.php?id=104
Has anyone any experience of it with Premiere?
Will it be OK with the new Mercury playback?
Regards
Phil

Hi Harm,
I have, and can find nothing about this card, or any other Nvidia GTX 295 based card.
Am I missing a section of the Adobe site?
This card seems a better spec than the 285 and seems to support CUDA.
Just thought others may have come across it?
The reason I am unsure about getting it is that I have just bought a VAIO for mobile editing with CS5, it has an NVIDIA graphics card in it and on the NVIDIA site it supports CUDA, but when you start Premiere it says Mercury hardware playback is not possible, and asks you to load NVIDIA drivers. When you try that the VAIO blocks the update.
That's why I'm keen to find an actual user that has tried the card - rather than relying on NVIDIA/Gainward spec and what should work in theory.
Nothing like getting it from the horses mouth!
Phil.

  • Starting up with SDK for CS5 (premiere)

    Hello everyone.
First of all, I apologize for my english. And also for my possible lacks of knowledge about this matter, I am a completely newbie.
I want to develop an exporter plugin for Premiere Elements 9. I have downloaded the trial version and also the complete SDK.
I have successfully built SDKExporter project, read the SDK guide (as much as I could without getting lost at some point...) and follow the instructions about where to place my *.prm file (ExporterSDK.prm). In my case, I guess it is in xxxxx(InstallFolder)\Adobe Premiere Elements 9\Plug-ins\es_ES.
The application seems to load the plugin (I put a "DebugBreak();" call and it is hit), but I can´t find exactly how this plugin "shows up" in the application GUI. For what I know (please forgive me If I am wrong) I should be seeing something in the "SHARE" option (does it replace old Export menu option?) related to this plugin, correct?
Is there any doc, besides CS5 SDK guide, that can help us in the "getting started" procedure?
Please, any clue will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks for the support.
    Kind regards.

    Hello again.
    Thanks for your response.
Right now I have been able to finally got the exporter SDK plugin working on Premiere Elements 9. I am going to write a guide in case it helps potentially users who wants to start with the SDK.
    1) Open the project with Visual Studio and change the binary to 32 or 64 bit (thanks for this tip!)
    2) Build the project. You can copy the ExporterSDK.rpm file to the Plugin folder of Premiere Elements by yourself or set an environment variable (PREMSDKBUILDPATH) to that folder. In my case, I have it in  xxx\Adobe Premiere Elements 9\Plug-ins\Common.
    3) Create a folder for your preset, so Premiere Elements can recognize your exporter under the "Sharing" tab (It seems like 'export' option under the file Menu is always disabled, strange). The folder should be Adobe Premiere Elements 9\sharingcenter\Presets\pc\OTHERS\YourCompanyName.
    4) Now here comes the best part. There must be a *.epr file in that location, pointing to the correct exporter object (which is ExporterSDK in our case). If you open up any existing presets you will see a xml-style file, hardly to be re-created from scratch if you want to create a new one for your exporter. What to do here? Install Adobe Media Encoder (it comes with Flash product).
    5) Once Flash is installed, copy ExporterSDK.rpm into Flash plugin folder (in my case, C:\Archivos de programa\Adobe\Adobe Media Encoder CS5\Plug-ins\common)
    6) Open Media Encoder.
    7) Add a video and choose "SDK File" in the Format combo.
    8) Press Ctrl + E (export).
    9) In the next dialog, select custom adjustment and click on save button (there is an icon for that, a floppy drive).
    10) Set the name you want.
    11) Now look for the *.epr file in the folder C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Datos de programa\Adobe\Common\AME\5.0\Presets (sorry for the spanish names). Be carefull as this folder may be hidden in your system.
    12) Happily, copy this generated *.epr file into folder created in step 3.
With these steps, you should be able to see your exporter in the Sharing tab, in PC option (a list box will appear saying 'others', that´s where our exporter shows up!).
Now you can set any BP in your VS ExporterSDK project, attaching to Adobe Premiere Elements process. Isn´t that great, finally?
From this point there is a huge way to move on, but at least it is possible to study how the exporter interacts with Elements, and also to analyze the classes used.
I hope this post will help anyone.
    Thanks again for the support.
    Kind regards.

  • Final Cut Pro 7 keyboard shortcuts for Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 for Windows

Attached is the file that contains the Final Cut Pro 7 keyboard shortcut set for Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 for Windows.
This file was mistakenly left out of the Premiere Pro CS5 installer, so people who tried to switch to this keyboard shortcut set were unable to do so.
Unzip the file and then install the .kys file by copying it here:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS5\Keyboard Shortcuts\en_US
(where C:\ may be replaced by the a different volume if you installed somewhere other than the C drive, and en_US may be replaced by another locale ID)
This file was included in the Premiere Pro CS5.5 installer, so manually installing this file is only necessary for Premiere Pro CS5.
For information about keyboard shortcuts, including how to customize them, see this page:
    "Keyboard shortcuts"

By the way, Mac users don't need to update this file, it's for Windows users only.

  • Best PC to buy for Photoshop CS5, Premiere Elements and Proshow Producer

I am looking for a new PC to replace my 10 year old one.
This would be used primarily for Photoshop CS5, Lightroom, Premiere Elements and Proshow Producer.
I am thinking of going to Digital Storm to get one of their top line gaming machines with Sandybridge cpu, high end video card and at least 16 to 32 gb Ram
(although I do not play games on the pc}.
Is this overkill, or would a different kind of PC be better?
    what do you recommend?

I'm definitely going to look into it. Thanks. Have a great holiday.

Dell Precisions are great machines, you could look into their Studio or Studio XPS too. Not quite workstation qualtiy but I'm beating the snot outta one @home and it's holding up well for a 600 buck eBay chassis...

  • Laptops for Adobe Premiere CS5

I was wondering if a Laptop would be a good solution for Adobe Premiere CS5, with the possibility of using the Mercury Playback engine.  I understand that a laptop would not be as powerful as a tower system, but I was looking for a laptop with decent power to do a decent job with Adobe Premiere CS5 .  I have found a few canidates and was wondering what were people thoughts  on laptops with Premiere CS5.
#1 MSI GT660R  --  The one has Nvidia GTX 285M with Raid 0
#2 HP Elitebook 8740W  --  uses NVidia Quadro FX 3800M
#3 Tohsiba Qosmio -- uses NVidia GTX 460M, and I would have to tweak Adobe Premiere CS5 for the MPE.
If nessary  I had plans of using SSD.

the 17" allows for a real desktop processor, 3 HDDs and 12gig ram
anything less i dont consider good for CS5.
of course that depends on work flow, codecs

    10. Windows 7 Pro  64Bit
    Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit -  OEM
    Overclockers
    £120.00
    1. Has been recommended on these forums.  Good to have  USB3.0.
    2. CPU is affordable and fast, with the ability to  overclock it if I feel the need for a bit more speed in the future.
    3. Would love 12GB, but will start with 6GB and perhaps  add more later.
    4. Started looking at Solid State Drives as I love the  comments about how fast they load programs, etc., however as they are still  really expensive felt that going with a fast standard drive would be best.  As I  plan on having a dual boot system, I would get two of these.  One would have OS,  CS5 and all my other software installed and the other one would have the minimum  for CS5 installed and the OS tweaked for performance with video  editing.
    5. Both seem like great drives.  Anyone any preference?   Would plan on getting two and use one to store video rushes and the other for  previews and the page file.  Would getting a HD with a 6GB/s interface be worth  it?
    6. I want a quiet case and one that's no higher than  45cm.  I already own the Antec Solo and I like the elastic HD mounting.  Anyone  any preference?
    7. Noctua comes recommended on these forums, however am  concerned with it's size.  Love the idea of water cooling an the H50 system make  it easier and less fuss being a closed system.  Final choice must be quiet and  I've read differing reviews on both.
    8. Can't wait to use the MPE, so want a decent card.  Torn  between getting a cheaper card and upgrading later or spending the money now on  a GTX480 and doing the software hack until fully supported.
    9. With a GTX480 would a 750w PSU be enough?
    GRAPHICS CARD
I've read reports of the GTX480 not being faster than the  2XX version card, however am I not correct in saying that the 2XX cards are no  longer being sold?  Should I be looking for a card from a particular  manufacturer, i.e. Asus, Gainward, Point of View, Gigabyte?  Or even Nvidia  themselves?
I am worried about the heat generated by the GTX480 and  the associated fan noise to cool it.  Any thoughts?
Love the water cooling solution, perhaps some day. http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-480-liquid-cooling-danger-den-review/1

    DUAL BOOT
For my dual boot, has anyone had experience of using a HD caddy like this  one? http://www.ebuyer.com/product/172727
I read a review which said that there was no real speed  difference as there is no interface card, just a cable to the motherboard. It  would make my dual boot less complicated to set-up as I wouldn't need to use Win  7 to dual boot or use 3rd party software like Acronis OS Selector.  It would  also free up space for a further internal HD.
PREMIERE OUTPUT TO A HDMI  SCREEN
I've been going back and forward on the best solution to  get a proper output of my timeline in Premiere to an external monitor.  I was  set to go with the Matrox MX02 Mini, however some here have said they're  unstable (to a degree).  Although with the CS5 drivers not out yet, perhaps it's  too early to say.
Although none of my video work has been for broadcast (so  far), I see a great benefit from being able to preview my timeline on a TV  screen as opposed to a PC monitor.  I will be running two screens so I need both  outputs from the graphics card.
I look forward to receiving your collective  wisdom.

Plus a couple of PSU to motherboard extension cables and Windows 7 Pro.  It was mentioned by someone that the CPU thermal paste you get with the HN-D14 is fine, so no need to buy anything else.
One extra fan (NF-S12B) to cool hard drives and the other for somewhere else in the case.  Perhaps I don't need these.
I presume that I should try and get an OEM CPU as I'll not need the heatsink and fan that'll be in the retail version?
I'm just waiting for Scan to get the case back in stock.  Should be today.  All priced at Scan, except last three items which are from Overclockers.
Anyone any final thoughts or tips?

  • Roto Brush issue in CS5 Premiere Pro

I am a new CS5 user with a week of learning under my belt.  (My previous experience was splicing 8mm film together when making films as a kid.)  I am hoping someone can advise on an issue I am encountering in CS5 Premiere Pro?  (I realize Roto Brush is a tool in After Effects, but I am having trouble with the output of the Roto Brush tool in Premiere Pro.)
I opened a .VOB file (taken from a DVD) in Premiere Pro (first I changed the extension to .MPG).  It opened as 720 x 480 at 23.976 fps.  No problems scrubbing through and using the Razor tool.  I selected one of the small razored subsections I made from the video, and opened it in After Effects using the Premiere Pro menu selection: File>Adobe Dynamic Link>Replace With After Effects Composition.  No problem opening in After Effects.  I learned the Roto Brush tool and it also worked great as I successfully masked out a moving figure - looks great.  But ...
When I return to Premiere Pro, the After Effect composition does not display the same as it did in After Effects.  Specifically there appears to be some kind of mask/motion mismatch, and so a bluish border will appear on some frames around the figure as it moves.  In After Effects the rotoscope is perfect, but in Premiere it is like a poorly done rotoscope with the borders of the figure messed up.  I am hoping the comparison images below will make this clear.  The image on the left shows the perfectly rotoscoped figure in After Effects, and on the right the same frame but in Premiere Pro.  Note how the image in Premiere Pro has a messed up border around the figure?
Has anyone experienced this or know why it is occuring?  I can think of some possible work-arounds that could be tried, but the dynamic link method is nice and fast.  So before I start rendering and saving and reopening files in a work-around attempt, I am wondering first what could be causing this issue.  Thanks for any ideas.

    Hi,
Just to let you know that you've posted in the Audition (audio) forum and may do better posting over in the Premier Pro forums.
However, as one who works in both video and audio, I'd just comment that your choice of export format is affected big time by what you want to do with your edit.  Things like Youtube, DVD, Bluray, etc. all have their own formats that you have to adhere to.  Within those formats you often have choices you can make to balance bandwidth vs. quality but these only come into play once you've decided where your project has to end up.

  • Help menus not working for CS5 Production Premium

I have installed the trial version of CS5 Production Premium on a Windows 7 64-bit PC. I canot get the Help menus to work for any of the applications.
Is this a limitation of the CS5 trial version?
I recently purchased Premiere Elements, but I did not deactivate it before installing Windows 7 on my PC. Would this interfere with the help menus for CS5?

I think the Adobe site was down for maintenance a few days ago. My CS5 Help menus are working fine today.

  • Mac Conversion for CS5 Nightmare

After seeing the FCP Supermeet at NAB this year I decided to make the switch to CS5.5
I took the following Mac and made these changes to upgrade the Mac in prep for CS5.5:
Intel Mac 3,1 Quad Core 2008
    3Ghz
    Up'ed the Ram to 32Gb DDR2
Clean Install (Erase/Reformat) 320Gb 7200RPM Operating System Drive and installed 64 bit Snow Leopard
Installed updates to make Snow Leopard 10.6.7 version
Installed base driver for new Quadro 4000 for the Mac graphics card (because of Apple partial support you have to use an older graphics card to install this driver BEFORE you install the Quadro 4000 physically)
    Physically installed the Quadro 4000
    Installed the Cuda driver
Updated the Cuda driver to current driver using the Cuda Panel interface
Installed CS5.5 from DVD disc set
Have separate 750Gb 7200RPM media drives
Have an external 600mbps read/write dual channed 0 Raid array for media as well
    NIGHTMARE!
Can barely play 1 track of h.264 video/audio on an HDSLR timeline preset
Can barely play 1 track fo video/audio on XDCAM EX 720p 24fps that comes with Adobe CS5 Classroom in a Book
Playback stutters and drops frames, audio glitches even when Playback Resolution is dropped down to 1/2 and 1/4 resolution
I have used both the Playback with Mercury and GPU acceleration and Mercury Engine Software only - same resulting stuttering playback
Watching graphical CPU usage  when playing back single track and there seems to be plenty of headroom
Media is stored on drive and raid separate from operating system drive. Scratch drive is on drive separate from Op Sys drive
The only out of spec component with this Mac is I am missing "Core Audio sound card"
But I have seen all sorts of Mac laptops running multiple tracks of HD with all kinds of effects applied and they played/scrubbed through the composition like butter.
Any idea - this MacPro tower with 32Gb and Quadro 4000 cuda card should tear it up with CS5.5

All our other edit bays are still at 32bit Leopard and are on jobs.
We pulled this one and did the noted conversion that we are having the problems with.
I guess your testing is both good news - the 3,1 model CAN be converted over and do a decent job.
I assume your co-worker's 3,1 had a Quadro 4000 for the Mac graphics card?
No choppy dropped frames at 1/2 or 1/4 playback resolution?
Bad news is the only idea I have left is start all over again and see if that changes it.
One new item to note, this morning on boot-up, when opening the "About this Mac" panel, the internal bong sound starts going off repeatedly (as if you are holding down a keyboard key continuously. And the scroll bars could not be used - when you drag one down and let go, they pop back up to the top. The only way to stop this all was to re-boot.
Yesterday I re-installed FCP and that gave me back the codec for nanoFlash XDCAMHD 422 files (and probably a lot of other missing codecs).
I then opened up a matching sequence in Premiere CS5.5 and was able to import one of these files now - so your advice on the missing codec helped here.
But when I placed this file on the timeline - video only - no audio, it stuttered and dropped frames no matter what resolution used for playback,
Then, here is the most telling thing, I rendered the "entire workspace" (1 clip of video only - 20 secs in length) it took 2mins/52 seconds with all 8 cores maxing out to render it.
I then got the green line above the video in the timeline - AND STILL THE VIDEO PLAYED BACK STUTTERING AND DROPPING FRAMES EVEN THOUGH RENDERED!!
That seems to indicate I either have something wrong with the video card or it's drivers? And maybe this morning's boot up demonstrates that as well?
    What do you folks think?
Thank you so much Todd for making the extra effort to help with my problem.
So anyone following this issue, it appears to not be a CS5.5 issue - but an issue with my individual machine - or graphics card or driver. Would be interested to know what graphics card and drivers you folks were using for this test.

  • What's hardware should upgrade for Using Premiere CS4 to editing (AVCHD)m2ts file?

What's hardware or software should upgrade for Using Premiere CS4 to editing (AVCHD)m2ts file?
1st question: when i try to do editing by using Premiere CS4 AVCHD sequence timeline, the edting monitor seems not smooth (like wearing goggles) & delay, and when i use AME to encode m2ts file (which not yet edit) to AVI file (about 1 hour), it take 2h 13min to finish, is it normal?
2nd question: i use mpeg2 HD 1440 file to do eding, the edting monitor also not very smooth but better than using m2ts file, after editing done, i try to encode these mpeg2 HD 1440 file (which edited about long 1 hr) to a New file mpeg2 1440 X 1080i HQ or even mpeg2 Pal DV HQ file, the encoding was not runthe encoding after wait for half an hour. How many hours it take usually????
3rd question: i use m2ts file video file to export as a Bitmap, 1 frame 1 picture bitmap, it take long time too, about 1 or 2min to finish encoding, if i export more than 1 picture, it take even more time, i have experienced it, 3 or 4 pictures need about 10 or 15 min to finish encoding. i used to using mpeg2 HD 1440 file (which edited file) to export frame as picture, it not run the encoding at all. WHY ????
i'm new in Premiere CS4,so i got many question about Premiere CS4, usually i use Premiere Pro 1.5 version
my computer is: Intel (R) Core (TM) 2 Duo CPU
                             E7400 @ 2.80 GHz
                             2.80 GHz, 2.00 GB RAM
Graphic Card: ATI Radeon X1650 series
2 Hard Disks in my computer (C Drive is 300 GB (not sata) , D Drive is 500 GB sata)
    4th Question: Premiere CS5 & Premiere CS4 which one is better ???
5th Question: What's different ATI Radeon and NVIDIA Card, which is better, which u suggest to. What is different Graphic Card and Video Card ?? Should i install HD Video Card ????

I don't think a core-2 will work very well with AVCHD... you need at least an Intel i7 920... or whatever is current
My CS5/AVCHD 1st Impressions http://forums.adobe.com/thread/652694?tstart=0 includes a link to the computer I built... since the GTX 285 is no longer sold, I would now go with a GTX 460 or whatever is the current "best bang for the buck" - AND I would buy 4Gig-by-3Sticks memory to be able to expand from 12Gig to 24Gig if needed
For my home hobbyist, family movies (which means that I am not trying to recreate Star Wars with video effects or many layers) AVCHD editing is "as smooth as spreading warm butter on hot toast" (also the MP4 video from wife's Flip camera)
My 3 hard drives are configured as...
    1 - 320G WD Win7 and all programs
2 - 320G WD Win7 swap file and PPro projects
3 - 1T WD all video files... read and write

  • "We are unable to validate this serial number for Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 Family."

I have bought and obtained a license serial number for Premiere CS6.
I have downloaded the files for Premiere CS6
    PremierePro_6_LS7.exe                    PremierePro_6_LS7.7z
    PremierePro_6_Content_LS7.exe     PremierePro_6_Content_LS7.7z
I have run PremierePro_6_LS7.exe and, having specified load with serial number, reached the point of entering the serial number.
"We are unable to validate this serial number for Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 Family."
I have checked my account and the license is on file.
The serial number is 24 digits in 6 groups of  4 characters.
Please provide an answer to this.
I've been using Adobe Premiere since 2006 and currently have CS5.5.
This is the first time I have had problems trying to download and set up a version.
It has taken most of the day so far!

    CS6 END USER ID                       22298999
    End User Name                           PETER JONES
    Previous records under              PETER FENNELL-JONES

    No problems with CS5.5
I have not tried removing it (not until I have CS6 sorted)
    Windows 7 Pro (64 bit)
I have installed CS6 in trial mode and entered the license number.
The Serial number appears to have been accepted.since Encode now starts up without a license message.

  • Video camera compatibility for CS5? what sequence setting do I use?

I am new to the extraordinarily complex world of hard drive/hybrid cameras. I have always used tape and firewires with few problems. A student came in today with new camera she just bought a Panasonic SDR –H85. We downloaded a video file, but it would not import into Premiere. I also had no idea which of the dozen new sequence set-ups to use. How do I find out camera compatibility for CS5? (Adobe doesn’t list specific models.) And what sequence setting do I use?

Thanks for your help! For some reason we had a hard time finding these specs. It looks like it is a SD camera, not a High Definition camera (the HD on the side of the camera mistakenly meant Hard Drive, not High Definition?)
At any rate we now need to use the Adobe media encoder to convert the file so that we can import it into Premiere ….all with a loss of quality due to the re-rendering. (btw, what is the best file to re-render?). I suggested that the student who just bought it return it for a camera (preferably High Def) that will work in Premiere. Any suggestions?

  • Does Maximus just mean for Adobe Premiere CS 5.5.2, quadro+ tesla c 2075

for encoding:"Both the Professional and Broadcast versions of Codec Suite 5 turn MPEG-1/2 and H.264/AVC editing with Premiere Pro CS5 into a productive, high-quality workflow. They come with CUDA accelerated H.264/AVC encoding that offers  export of your projects by making use of Nvidia’s GPU hardware acceleration architecture."

  • 9 downloaded install files for CS5.5... what install order, Todd?

Just got my license approval for CS5.5 and am downloading it from the Adobe licensing site... When I clicked to download the Master Collection CS5.5, I was given a whole bunch of files to download. After leaving out the 32-bit CS4 versions of things, I was left with 9 files... anybody know which order to install these in? Nothing in the download help files told me where to start or how to continue...
    I have:
    Master Collection CS5.5 Installer (exe) 1MBMaster Collection CS5.5 Content (7z) 5.1GB
    Production Premium/Master Collection CS5.5 Content (exe) 175MB
    After Effects 10.5 Content Installer (exe) 1MBAfter Effects 10.5 Content (7z) 744MB
    InDesign Family Content (exe) 156MB
Premiere Pro CS 5.5 Content Installer (exe) 1MBPremiere Pro 5.5 Content (7z) 2.5GB
    Illustrator 15.1 Content (exe) 120MB
I'm guessing that the exe files will access the content in the 7z files, so no need to worry about the 7z files. I'm also quite sure that the first exe file comes first. But is there a specific order to all the following files? I suppose I could just wait till my install discs get here next week, but I'm kinda impatient!
Also, I'm assuming that, as with previous versions, there's no need to uninstall CS5.0.3 before installing this one? Can 5.0.3 be safely uninstalled later if I want it to be? I know there's probably answers to those two questions buried deeply here back in the summer when 5.5 first came out, but I'm feeling kinda lazy this morning. So if nobody answers those two I'll get my lazy butt in gear and go look!

Oh. Bummer. It'd be nice if Adobe would make that notation on their site, then... I've already downloaded everything else. Oh well. At least I'm on a 50mbps fibre connection. 15 minutes left on the MC download, and I can rock it!
