Game from dvd suddenly wont load

Not sure I'm in the right place for this but a game disk suddenly won't load (Sims). Clicking on the icon - shows up briefly in the dock - then disappears and won't load (and worked fine 3 hours ago). Disk has been cleaned and reinstalled with the same result. Reclicking on the icon yields the same result.
I tested the drive with another CD and it works fine. A auto update of quicktime was done earlier today in the interim
Any thoughts on why this might be happening?
Thank you
P

Prp, just to let you know I did some research on Quicktime 7.6 and there is a lot of similar problems. I've resolved mine now, unfortunately it does mean a complete install and archive.
if you need anymore information please let me know and I can see if I can help you

If I have more then a few tabs open such as gmail, facebook, and a zynga game no tabs will load at all. I close and reopen firefox numorous (Im talking 7 or 8 times or many more) and shut down the zynga game and still it wont load the tabs or if it does and I then try to add the game or any other site at all on a tab it causes firefox to stop working (though not close) and I have to restart opening and closing it many times to get it to work at all.

1st, you will not be able to activate your PPro1.5 on ANY new computer, see next link for the special version you MUST use
    CS2 (and earlier) Activation Server http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/creative-suite-2-activation-end-life.htm l
2nd, you already mentioned Virtual XP, so if a direct install doesn't work, that would be the way to go... or, to just do what SHOULD work from the start, just do Virtual XP

Ok I have been following the instructions supplied on this website http://www.zentus.com/sqlitejdbc/usage.html.
I have downloaded the jar and the dll file and have placed them into the same folder as my jar file. Then as it says I enter into the command line:
    "java -cp sqlitejdbc.jar - Djava.library.path=. - jar CBL_Program.jar" and I get this:

  • Dvd drive wont load disk

I can't put a disc into the DVD drive.  Is there a reset-type procedure I can use to make it willing to load discs?

This issue may require some qualified technician to replace the optical
drive; depending on the usage and age of the computer, the unit may
be wearing out or some part in there has failed. And depending on the
age and use pattern of the computer, the hard disk drive may also be
getting weak. {Sometimes, for a little more than the cost of one service
    replacement, a second can be performed at the same time.}
If the problem is just some foreign object which somehow got into
    the drive, perhaps a good service tech could look inside & see it;
maybe even remove some obstruction, if one exists in there.
Otherwise, the options are probably limited due to the way the drives
are compact and generally the computer would need to be opened
up to get into them. Some independent service techs and small
companies who know Apple products can do a good service and be
able to restore functions. Some may be able to give you a fair price
because they have access to the parts and are knowledgeable, too.
The iBook series takes some effort and skill to get into them and do
repairs, and not cause other damages as a result of this effort. My
suggestion would be to inquire locally, if at all available or likely, for
someone qualified; then inquire farther away. I had a good service
from wegenermedia.com on my older iBook at a good price; and
sent it across the continent via the US Post Office. A flat-rate box
with bubble-wrap & other padding may be adequate...
Estimates are subject to inspection in many cases, and at times,
a part may be prohibitively expensive if the tech or company is
    not one who does this work often. wegenermedia is a specialist;
there probably are a few others who do portable Apple repairs in
out-of-warranty computers, to factory qualified specification.
Good luck in this matter, & happy computing!

  • Do I use compressor to rip High School football game from DVD?

I am making a recruitment video for a Senior in High School.  I film all of his local games, but two weeks ago they played out of state.  He just gave me a DVD of the game footage.  Would I use compressor to turn the footage back into an editable format?  I use ProRes LT in FCP, but have never had to use someone else's DVD.  I know the footage has already been compressed since it has been placed on a DVD, so I want to use the best options for the best quailty.

Look at Flip4Mac. The free version should allow you to view the wmv file. This paid versions should allow you to convert it. You can try before you buy to make sure it works. It should work with Compressor.
Another option is the free open-source Handbrake. I have no personal experience with this for wmv, but I have heard anecdotally that it may work.

  • Variation on a theme: recordable DVD media wont load (blank or with data)

I've read through the forums about problems people are having with the CD/DVD drives, but this one seems unique.
    My MacBook will read:
    commercial DVDs and CDs
    Blank recordable CDs
    Recorded data CDs
    But wont read:
    Blank or recorded DVDs.
I've tried a number of different brands, and none of them will be recognized. (The same DVDs I've tried in a friend's identical MacBook and his reads them fine).
I've reset the PRAM and bought a cleaning disc, none of which hand an effect.
I'm assuming the drive is bad. Just thought I'd check here once before taking my much-beloved MacBook in for service.

It's beyond obviously bad, my friend It ***** to hear it, but it's true. Don't waste any more time and money, just get it to Apple so that they can replace it. The more they see people coming back with bad drives, the more likely they'll get their act together and fess up and start taking a more consumer-friendly approach (accepting, not denying, helping, not ignoring), which WILL make them RICHER in the end. Guaranteed. A customer who is shown appreciation, stays a customer, even in tough times. So simple a concept.

  • Run GAME CD/DVD direct from hard drive

How do I load and run my kid's games directly from the hard drive on their MAC? My kids are young but pretty good with their MAC. However they are brutal on the CD/DVDs (scratch them, etc.) I would love to run the games from the hard drive via icon from desktop. Just like the game demos in the Apple store!
    Thanks in advance!

    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

You can sometimes create an image with Disk Utility. But some games are copy protected preventing that. I found that to be the case with Simcity 4.
P.S. Mac is not an acronym. Please read this tip:

  • IDVD 08 wont load up a project from iDVD 4.0.1

Can anyone help me? I'm trying to make a DVD for me and my friends and we're on the verge of giving up. My friend made the DVD on his eMac on iDVD 4.0.1. The DVD wouldnt burn, it just popped the DVD out after putting it in the drive. Its probably his eMac's DVD burner, its plays DVDs but wont burn them. Anyways, so i got an external hard drive and put the DVD project on it. Now i've tried to upload it on my mac mini on iDVD 08 and it wont load. It Comes up with two messages. The first is this:
"At least one of the themes used by this project is missing on your system. The default theme "Revolution Main" will be used instead."
    The next message is this:
    "Changing TV Standard
Changing the TV standard will require iDVD to encode all previously encoded assets again."
Then it just says "loading project: EvE SL 07.dvdproj" and since then nothing has happened.
Is there anything that i was supposed to do that i haven't done? Like backup files or something? I really have no clue.

I have the same problem - there is another thread around here where I put up the trace information but no-one seemed interested in helping.
I have not been able to get anyone from Apple to show any kind of interest at all in fixing it.
My next idea is to use the property editor to see what is in the project data (XML) that it could be complaining about. I would imagine that they have changed the meaning of an item or just moved it.

  • IMac wont load install DVD 10.5 on iMac g4

I have older iMac g4, which i've kept for design-reasons - its nice to look at.
I bought it as demo-model from a dealer when the model just had gone out of production.
    It runs OSX 10.3.9.
    I wanted to upgrade to 10.5, so I bought an original second-hand DVD;
"MAC OS Leopard - Install DVD - Version 10.5 - 2Z691-6037-A" (black-blue color; NOT grey)
It wont load at all. It just runs in the drive for 10 - 15 seconds and then autoejects. Same thing if I restart pressing "c". At no time does the disc appear on the desktop or a start window opens. Just nothing.
The CD drive works ok - can read and burn.
I tried to start the Install DVD in the new iMac and the iBook; both macs can read the dvd and opens the install window.
    What should I do ?

It sounds like a problem with the Mac not being able to read the disc rather than the disc being an upgrade-only edition etc as it won't even read it - do other DVDs (not just CDs, as sometimes a drive will partly die and be able to read CDs but not DVDs, or vice versa) definitely work in the drive?
I think a few of the early iMac G4s came with only a CD-RW drive ie not compatible with DVDs at all, so again testing another DVD will show if you have one of those. If this is the case you could try using Target mode to install using the DVD drive in another Mac, if you don't want to replace/upgrade the drive in the G4.

    OK. If you believe that.
When the disk is starting to die it can be bad for a moment and then be good for a while. If there was no problem while you were checking it of course it shows up good.
I tell you those are the signs of a disk that is about to die.
