Game not opening (parental controls?)

Hi-
I just got the kids a new iMac, running Mountain Lion.
I downloaded and installed a game, and I can open it on my administrator account, but when I try to open it in my daughter's account, it first says "you do not have permission to open" and when I add her name on the info panel, it says that the app can't be opened because it might be corrupted or incomplete (paraphrasing there).  She does not have "Limit Applications" selected in parental controls.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Presumably it's a Java application...which is having an odd (but common) interaction with the Gatekeeper security mechanism.
Go into the Apple menu and open "System Preferences..."  Select the "Security & Privacy" preference pane, and then unlock it if necessary.
Change the "Allow applications downloaded from:" radio button to "Anywhere".  DO NOT close the preference pane.
Launch the game once, then shut it down.
Change the Gatekeeper preference radio button back to whatever setting it is that you normally want.
Close "System Preferences"
The game should now work properly whenever you launch it...but any other Java application will very likely have the same problem (and the same solution).
Cheers.

  • Can not open parental controls any more

Earlier this year I set up parental controls for my children. I want to make changes to the parental controls. I am able to log in with my admin username and password to unlock, but for some reason when I click on the parental controls, there's no response. I even tried to set up another guest user, but when I enable the parental controls and click to open, it doesn't do anything.
Then I reinstalled the applications from the original disk that came with the computer. That didn't help.

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
I'd launch the Console utility and look for messages that might explain the problem.

  • HT1349 Why are my games not opening? I already reset my iPad but still not opening. What's the best thing to do?

My games are not opening. I tried resetting my iPad but still not opening. once pressed, it doesn't do a thing.

    1. What's the best way to speed up the slide show to about 2-3 seconds an image instead of the 5 seconds the template is forcing me to use?
You can only set the duration of a slide to less than 5 seconds, if you are using a theme, were the transitions between slides can be disabled or controlled - so  you would be restricted to the "Classic" theme or the "Ken Burns" theme. All other themes need at least two seconds for the transitions and three seconds to actually show the photo.
You can set the Ken Burns Theme to a very short time for the transitions and to add the "Antique" photo effect to selected slides, like this:

  • Can not open database control in oracle 11g r2, listener issues

    Hi,
I installed Oracle 11g r2 database on my laptop for testing. at beginning everything was fine and working. 2 days later i am unable to run oracle database control.. i get page not found!
I tried all the tricks and read almost 200 pages from oracle documentation, none of this was even close to help!
(by the way oracle documentation is a fail in my opinion, it really tend to complicate things so much and talk about things not related to what a developer want to read about, its even hard for professional programmer to keep up with this, I started to hate dealing with Oracle before even going deep!!)
I tried deleting database and creating new database i get the following warning:
    - Enterprise manager configuration failed due to the following error:
listener is not up or database service is not registered with it. start listener and register database service.. etc.
Some how after few hours the control is working but the database is not there, and it shows that the listener is up, but database is down.
I tried creating a new database, but i get the error above (it seems its created but not linked to listener!!)
I guess what triggered this error is running xampp, i was also working in php project and ran xampp for test, since then oracle is corrupted!
any help would be appreciated (please don't send me links to oracle documentation because its useless and not straight to the point)
    Regards

    Hi
    thank you for the reply
I assume i should do this through SQL plus?
anyway, now am getting new error: ORA-00020: maximum number of processes (150) exceeded
I get this error when trying to login to SQL plus, or create/configure database.
I tried deleting oracle 11g via universal installer i get message saying run the command c:\...dbhome_1\deinstall\deinstall
I don't understand Oracle totally collapsed in my laptop with no reason

  • Admin password not accepted in Parental Controls 10.8.2

When logged in to my kids accounts I am trying to make changes to System Prefs and open allowed apps. (those I have ticked as allowed in Parental Control prefs) and the admin name and password is rejected and I get the 'wobble box'! Arghhh!!!!!!!
The same admin. name and master password are accepted when logging in to my main account and everywhere else...just not in parental controls. None of the ticked allowed items can be opened by parental controlled accounts.
Makes the parental controls totally unusable.
    Bug! Bug! Bug!

This is an should be an easy fix. Go to System Preferances and choose users and groups. Click on the lock and type in the admin details. Then click on your account and change the password. Sorry if this doesn't work.

  • Parental controls running but not enabled.

I've been having issues with my late 2008 MacPro running Mavericks 10.9.5.  It has been freezing and unable to wake from sleep.
I checked the log and it seems to be the parental controls.  I see "parentalcontrolsd" and "StartObservingFSEvents" listed at say 4:00AM and then nothing util 8:00AM when I had to force reboot the mac.
Now I do NOT have Parental Controls turned on and there are no accounts assigned to PC.
How do I either permanently delete or disable Parental Controls?
    Thanks in advance.

In System Preferences -> Users & Groups is there a Guest account with managed preferences perhaps? (You may have to click on the lock bottom left to check the settings.)

  • Parental Control not logging for one user only

Hi, my two kids have parental control turned on for their individual accounts. On one account I get logs of their activity, the other I do not inside parental control preference pane. I found in the account that does not get logged the following:com.apple.familycontrols.overrides.plist.
Anyone know what this is and why it might be in that account?
Also any ideas as to why one account would not be getting logged?
I can see the details in her user account inside Library/applicationsupport/apple/parentalcontrol.
    Imac G5, 2gb ram, 10.5.6

The familycontrols.overrides property list interests me, especially because I can't find any information on it! Looking at its contents suggests that it is a temporary file created whenever an admin authorizes the managed user to exceed their daily login time limit (e.g., 30 minutes extra).
As for the not logging problem, I have it too. It seems to me that events.data -- the actual log -- is too large at 54 MB and am deleting it. (I note that it was updated at the time the managed user last used his account, so something is being recorded.) Wish me luck.

  • Downgrade Admin to "Managed with parental controls" - no data loss?

I want to change my daughter's iMac account (originally my wife's computer) from "Admin" to "Managed with parental controls."
Is this possible while saving all of her school work/music/etc. which are now under the admin login/account? Or do I backup her home folder, delete the admin account, add a new one for me, then put her back in as "Standard" and go from there?
Hope there is an elegant/easy way to avoid data loss while still upgrading security on her usage...
    Thanks in advance!
    Kevin

    hi k,
yes you can down grade her account and enable parental controls. This will not delete her content such as itunes, photos, documents, extra.
if you haven't done so already, make another administrator account with you will use to manage the computer. Make sure the account has a password; and that password is not the same as her password.
then Login with the new administrator account.
go to system preferences and click on accounts. unlock accounts by clicking on the lock. click on the old administrator account. now uncheck allow this user to administrate this computer. then check enable parental controls. then click on the open parental controls button.
you can now configure parental controls.

  • How to establish a Preset with parental controls non modify

Can be posible to establish a Preset to print and make it the default but that the standard user can not modify it or select "Default Settings"???
    I will appreciate any help
    Cawobunga

Try creating an account from an administrator account, set for a parental managed account, then make sure parental controls is checked. Then click on "open parental controls button" the Apps tab, then click "Limit Applications, then click the "triangle" on "other apps", scroll down to System Preferences (under allowed apps) and uncheck that. The checked apps should work, the unchecked, in this case , system preferences will require an admin name and passsword to access that function, if system preferences is not accessable, then the printer can not be changed/accessed.

  • Itunes will not open and quicktime will not update

selecting iTunes results in popup message; 'iTunes requires Quicktime 7.5.5 or later...', but QuickTime will not open.
    Control right-click did not help.

Wow, it looks like your software is very very old.
The current version of QuickTime is 10.3.  The current version of OS X is 10.9.1.  (Your profile indicates you are running OS X 10.5.8, Leopard.  Leopard was released in 2007.)
The current version of iTunes, 11.1.4, will not run on Leopard.
Anyway, it sounds as if all your software needs extensive upgrading.  You may be using a computer that is too old to run current software.

  • Forgot User Name and Password for Parental Controls

I apparently have forgotten the user name and password for the parental control feature in itunes. How do I recover the information or unlock the controls?

I tried entering the same information as my computer user name and password and it does not work for locking Parental controls. What is weird is I can Log on to Itunes and my computer but it will not lock parental controls. What I am trying to do is keep anyone from changing the settings. Again I enter the same information as my computer but it DOES NOT WORK!!!!

  • Parental Controls crashing my Mac

I keep getting random freezes and when I check the log, the last thing to be running before I reboot is "parentalcontrolsd".  There is a notice about "***StartObservingFSEvents started event stream" and then the next entry is when I force reboot.
I do not have parental controls turned on for any account.  Is there anyway to completely delete this service?
I've tried running this through Terminal - and still no good.
    sudo rm -rf /Library/Application\ Support/Apple/ParentalControls/
    Thanks for any advice.
    Jim

Have you thought about taking it away from her and only allowing her to use it for school work in front of you, IE in the same room you are in. And when she is done with school work turn it off and take it away from her. Then make her read a book.
Get it, Wipe the drive, reinstall the OS, Set yourself as the admin, give her a normal User account and set the P controls again.
IMHO you don't need to view the iChat logs. You need to remove iChat from the computer.

  • Parental controls won't turn off.

Since installing OS X 10.8.2 my iMac keeps asking to override Parental controls in order to access websites in spite of the fact that Parental controls are not set to restrict access to websites. This happens even if I turn off Parental controls altogether.

I have a workaround that worked for me - sort of.
Option 1: Create a new user account. This particular parental controls issue seems to only affect upgraded accounts, so a new user account won't have the same issues.
Option 2: Disable parental controls until Apple can provide a real fix or until you can do Option 1. Follow these detailed steps: (a) Promote the affected user to an administrator. (b) Reboot. (c) Log in as that user. (d) Demote that user to a regular user. (e) Do *not* enable parental controls. (f) Reboot. (g) Log in as that user again. The annoying errors should be gone, but you won't have parental controls. If you enable parental controls again, the errors will return, even if you disable parental controls. You'll have to go through the whole promote/demote thing again to make the errors go away.
I don't consider either of these workarounds to be very good, but they may be better than what you're currently experiencing.
Once you fix this issue, you may still have to deal with this issue in OS X 10.8.2 - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4322178?start=o&tstart=o
I'm also wondering if there's a .plist file somewhere that can just be deleted (and automatically rebuilt at next reboot), but I haven't gotten that far yet.

  • Parental controls interferes with iTunes Store access

My daughter's account is set up to use Parental Controls. Under Tiger, she had no problems getting to the iTunes Store. Under Leopard, we get an "unknown error" (with a "-4" in it somewhere), every time.
If I turn off the parental controls for her account, she can get to the iTunes Store. If I turn them back on, she can't.
(On a related note, toggling Parental Controls seems to lose all of your settings... That is, the workaround to my iTunes Store problem might be to disable Parental Controls when she wants to access the store). That's a pain, though, because all of the "allow" / "don't allow" settings that I've established are lost, every time.)
She's got access to iTunes (and iTunes Helper, whatever that is), so it's not like I've prevented her from using iTunes. Again, worked fine under Tiger.
Is there a permanent fix to this?

    Same problem.
Here is a workaround that works for me: I go to the iTunes Music Store and enter a search term in the search box, "The Monkees," for example. The search takes me to the Search Results screen. From there, if I click on an Artist or Album link, to "escape" out of the Search Results screen, the navigation path at the top has the home icon, music, genre, etc. buttons available. If I click on the home button, I get the long wait followed by an error. But I can click on the next level below, Music, and get pretty much everywhere in the music store.
And I've also temporarily turned off parental controls to debug this and lost all the allow / deny settings... very annoying.
The most difficult thing about trying to solve the parental control problems is that it is not always clear what is causing the problem. For example, amazon.com works fine when allowed, but once you go into secure mode most parts of the site fail to load properly, no matter what you add to the allow list in parental controls. Something about parental controls "fails to establish a secure connection." Turning off parental controls fixes the problems, but then you have no parental controls.
