Game Physics on iPod Touch 2G - iPad
Hi everyone, I'm still testing feasibility for a 2D platformer Videogame in flash for the iOs.
I'm checking now how to implement a Physics engine. I checked Box2D for now, and it has a close to 0 FPS on the ipod touch 2g. I will try some code optimization, but do any of you think an engine like that one can perform decently on a late iphone, ipod touch or ipad?
Thanks a lot!
Any suggestion is welcome!
On a mobile device everything is about optimization, and I think this is especially true for an old gen device like iPhone2G. If you've checked out the game Space-On-Air on App Store, you would find out box2d-based flash game can run smoothly even on older gen of iOS.
Though I haven't done any experiment with box2D just yet. I think the reason that might slows down your app could be anything:
Were you using vector graphics?
If yes, did you cached them as bitmaps?
If they are being rotated or scaled, did you set cacheBitmapAsMatrix?
Have you tested on the lastest iPhone/Touch, cuz the CPU/GPU for 2G are not great, but they are good, that means you could have a much better performance or at least 10FPS on 2G once you take care of optimization.
Another thing that I'm concerned is box2D is said to be CPU-intensive running in Flash. So I strongly suggest you refine your code, avoid high iterations, set frame rate below 30FPS, choose GPU rendering...
Good luck!

I am on Itunes right now and i am on a mac computer and i am trying to buy games for an ipod touch that i have but it just lists ipad and iphone apps so if i buy iphone apps will i be able to download them my my ipod 5th generation
No. If it states designed for both iPad and iPhone, then it won't run on an iPod touch.

Can I start a game on my iPod touch and continue that game on my iPad
Can I start a game on my iPod touch and continue that game on my iPad
None of the games currently sold on the iTunes Store are compatible with the Touch. In June, there is scheduled to be an update to the Touch software (at a cost) that will allow you to add applications. The iTunes Store will then be selling applications that can be loaded onto the Touch.

My daughter tried to play the My Horse game on her Ipod touch that she got for Christmas and when she opened the game it said something about sending "push notifications" and gave the choice of "don't allow" or "ok"...we chose "don't allow". After that the screen went white and now we cannot get the Ipod touch to respond to anything. I tried holding the sleep/wake button to try to restart it and it doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions to get this device working again???
Try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If that doesn't work, try a Restore:
From iTunes, select the iPad and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad.
There's more that you can do. Post back if none of the above solves the problem.
By the way, I always allow "push." That allows the app developer to "push" information to your device rather than waiting for you to ask for it. However, "don't allow" shouldn't cause the problem that you're experiencing. -
I am having trouble loading games to my ipod touch version 2.2.1, model MB531LL...how do I get IOS 4.3 or 5? How do I tell which operating system I have? is it 2.2.1 = " the version"? I am clueless....please help!! Thanks!!
You have a 2G iPod those can only go to 4.2.1.
Connect the iPod to your computer and update via iTunes
iOS: How to update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
A 2G to 4.2.1. Requires iTunes version 10.X. If a Mac it requires OSX 10.5.8 or later.

When playing games on my iPod touch. Some are stutters and non responsive
Trying to play games on my iPod touch and they are slow, stuttery and non responsive. iPod software is up to date
Do the games require an internet connection? If so then maybe slow connection.
otherwise:
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device. -

Does Game Center on iPod Touch 2G sync?
I understand that Game Center on iPod Touch 2G (iOS 4.2) no longer work.. (ie. don't show games, empty friends list, unable to receive friend requests, cannot connect to in-game scores)... but does that mean that it is also not syncing? I ask this because I am looking to get a new iPhone, which will have iOS 5/6 and hence Game Center. I'm concerned about transferring my games and scores safely onto my new device.
Has anyone experienced this transfer with iPod Touch 2G and had any luck? If so, please share the good/bad experiences, or any suggestions, thanksOn a mobile device everything is about optimization, and I think this is especially true for an old gen device like iPhone2G. I purchased a game on my ipod touch. I restored the device to factory settings last night and when I synced all the apps back, the game is now in the demo version. How do I unlock it ? I hope I don't need to pay for the full version again.
PES 2012 is no longer available in the US App Store and only on the British App Store currently.

That (an app no longer available) happens sometimes.
Your only way is if you have the appt on your computer such as in the recycle bin/trash or in a computer file backup. In that case move it to your iTunes library and sync. -
I updated an iPod touch, an iPad 2, and an iPhone 4 to iOS 6, and all of them now will not connect to WiFi. They all give this wierd 404 error page from Apple and insist that I need to login to the network. What's the fix? None of the recommended fixes work in any of these devices. Reset device, reset network, renew lease, etc. None of them work.
Does the iPod work OK?
Does it charge when connect to the computer?
Does it appear in My Computer?
Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Compare with the iPod that does work/connect.
I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1

iPod touch (3rd generation)
iPod touch (3rd generation) features a 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen multi-touch display and 32 GB or 64 GB flash drive. You can browse the web with Safari and watch YouTube videos with Wi-Fi. You can also search, preview, and buy songs from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store on iPod touch.
The iPod touch (3rd generation) can be distinguished from iPod touch (2nd generation) by looking at the back of the device. In the text below the engraving, look for the model number. iPod touch (2nd generation) is model A1288, and iPod touch (3rd generation) is model A1318. -
