Game recording on the iMac

How do I record gameplay for you tube using the iMac? Do I need a separate microphone?

Chuckarthy, Welcome to the discussion area!
Snapz Pro X is the premier utility for capturing activity on the screen.
...for example record video of World of Warcraft...
Most games override any thing else and won't allow you to capture screen shots.
Also if it is possible to record directly onto the computer from an outside source, for example a Xbox.
If your mini-DV camcorder has digital pass through, you can pipe the video from the Xbox into your mini-DV camcorder and out via Firewire to iMovie on your iMac.

Anyone suggest suitable software to record from the iMac to the iMac. i.e. 'What you hear'?
For instance if I play a tune on Spotify how can I record this to the iMac?

Technically what you are proposing is considered stealing and isn't something OK to discuss on these forums. The Terms of Use say:

  • How do I make a voice record on the iMac?

I want to add a voice recording to a Keynote slide show.  How do I proceed?

You can make an audio recording in the QuickTime X player - File>New Audio Recording and if necessary use the down-pointing triangle on the right to select the microphone or other source.
However as to adding audio to a Keynote presentation the best place to ask would be in the Keynote Forum.

  • Does anyone know of a reliable game controller for the iMac?

    Thanks.

Come on, now. If you don't have an answer for the guy **** off if he already said your suggestion doesn't work for what he wants. He's probably not using it in whatever way you're thinking and/or has already tried any solution that he's saying "thanks but that's not quite what I'm looking for" to.
Por ejemplo. Say he plays a game/uses a program that has a lot of waiting periods, so he wants, during this waiting period, to use a password-protected browser to search the web for whatever he wants. On top of this, he wants to be able to have all the convenience of NOT being in private browsing mode and/or not clearing his history, i.e. bookmarks, restoring the last session, etc. And to top it all off, the app/game he uses? He wants the data saved on the public account.
So there. Multiple accounts does not solve this particular problem. So instead of saying, "Well, I don't see HOW it doesn't solve it" either give the man what he wants or say "sorry I couldn't help." Jesus Christ. Why are people on forums unable to do this?
[Now, to do my part and offer a suggestion]:
I don't know of any password-protected browsers, but you can try putting the browser itself (since Mac is awesome like this) on a thumb drive or possibly a TrueCrypt volume. TrueCrypt, in layman's terms, is a way of creating a virtual, password-protected "thumb drive."

  • Can I use the iMac as a monitor?

Im thinking about getting an iMac.
Can I use the iMac monitor as a... monitor? Could I hook up a playstation to the monitor? Is there any video-in?

There is only a video-out port on the iMacs so there is no way to hook up a PS2 to it without third party products.
You can use an Elgato EyeTV 250 to hook up a game console to the iMac. It is an NTSC device so it should work in Japan for the TV features also.

I have a football game recorded on a DVD+R disc that I was trying to view on my MacBook using DVD Player.  The video comes onto the screen, but immediately freezes, and then disappears.  An error message comes up saying that DVD player unexpectedly quit.  My MacBook operating system is Mac OS X, version 10.5.8.  DVD Player is App version 5.0.3, framework version 5.0.7.
However, the DVD+R works on both my Dad's and my brother's laptops.  My Dad's laptop is an iBook G4 with Mac OS X operating system, version 10.3.9.  The DVD Player is version 4.0.  My brother's laptop is a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X operating system, version 10.7.2.  The DVD Player is App version 5500.26.1 and framework version 5.5.0.  The DVD+R plays fine on their laptops, but will not play on mine.

    Lao Bo,
yes, you can locate and copy a file from your HD to a USB key using UNIX commands. If you know the exact name of the file which you’re trying to locate, try this:
    find / -iname filename -print
This command will search your entire internal disk for the particular filename. If you know that it’s within a particular user account, then you can save search time with this variation:
    find /Users/username -iname filename -print
Either variation of this command will print all files found which have the given filename. Presuming that you’re able to identify the correct file, you can copy it to a USB key using the command
    cp -p filename_returned_by_find /Volumes/USB_volume
If you’re not sure which volume name your USB key has, this command will show you what the possibilities are:
    ls /Volumes
Please let me know if you have any trouble with these commands.

  • How to delete a games record in game center without deleting the app?

i want to delete one of my games record on game center without deleting the game app itself
    what should i do?

    Hi,
Sounds like what you want to do is evict the item from the cache, rather than remove it.  Evicting the item is effectively saying the entry in the cache is out of date, and Coherence should retrieve it from the database should a new request for the key come in.
You can set up eviction either through config, (to evict after a period of time or when the cache reaches a certain size), or pragmatically using an entry processor, (which calls remove(true) on the entry passed to it. The 'true' means evict rather than delete).
    Hope this helps,
    Andy

  • How can I record just the Capitals hockey games?

I just switched from Comcast to Verizon.  I am able to record the pregame show and the post game show for the Washington Capitals, but I can't record just the Capitals hockey games.  I do not want to record all of the hockey games; I just want to record the Capitals Games.  I don't want to have to search through the listings every week to record the games.  Can you tell me if there is a way to do this?

Thanks for the response, Wyodor.  I don't know what that is, but I'll have a look.  Is it an alternative to iWeb or a way to transfer pre-existing iWeb sites?  When you say merge domain files, is that like so multiple copies of the same site show up then you can pick and choose the non-corrupted pages and group them then delete the corrupted ones?  I am on Snow Leopard with no plans or need to upgrade anytime soon.
And yes, I will read your links but just wanted to ask those questions.  Maybe they'll answer my questions, maybe not.
I was able to discern that within the domain file is a domain folder with all the site folders, each with their own page ".gz" files which expand into ".xml" files.  I was trying to figure out if you could simply drag the corrupt pages out that way and replace them with backup copies that are still good.  I am having trouble discerning which pages are which as they all have random names like site-page-30F175E3-AE33-4F10-A490-1A096D9B185B.xml and although I expanded and opened each in Text Wrangler, I still couldn't discern which were which for sure, and trial and error proved cumbersome.  Also, I did notice some of the later corrupted domain files had one or two more pages than the site itself has, so not sure how they got added or duplicated or what.
Again, I'll look at your links, but do you know about swapping out individual page .xml files this way within the domain file?

is it possible to add the games that are on my childrens iphones to the imac?  I downloaded all of them from the Apps store.  Is it because they need a touch screen for most of these game and therfore will not convey?

No, the reason is that iOS and OS X are completely different operating systems. Apps written for one will not work for the other.

  • New iMac...trying to set up sound recording form the internet but my microphone isn't working for facetime.  I have soundflower installed...recording into Adobe Audition. Can't seem to get them all working...any help?

I'm just setting up my iMac, and am not very familiar as I'm just coming over from Windows.  Working on setting up my recordeing software (will most likely be Audition) and I need to be able to record from the internet as well as from a microphone.
I've installed soundflower but now the micropohone is not working in facetime.  What is the proper way to set all this up?
    Thank you!
    Frank

    O.K. fgonoz98
I would do 1 thing at a time:"now the micropohone is not working in facetime"
Here is what you can check to get your mike working in facetime:
    1. Hold down option while you click on the speaker next to time a. date,
under input Device see if your mic is marked. If not: ✔️
    2. Click the apple top left/System Prefs./click on the Sound speaker:
    under Input highlight microphone.
    3. When you have factime on go to video above scroll and see if your mic is marked ✔️
If that does not get it to work there is more you can check:
    (Utilities/Audio, midi setup)
For any other audio device you do this for input and output.
If you get stock post back

  • Home music recording- is the Mac Pro better for this than an iMac?

I know it seems like a daft question but if you were to recommend a Mac for a DECENT home studio and money were (within reason) nearly no object WHAT Mac would you recommend? I always believed that a good sized desktop would be better than an iMac or a MacBook Pro (which is what I have been using for just a hobby home recording set-up) but is this a myth?
Please advise because the Mac Pro looks SCARY. I mean- the options are vast but what DO I NEED as opposed to want? Thank you kindly for reading.

I guess there is nothing wrong with the set-up except that the MacBook Pro is mine and the musicians need their own as I need mine for work.
Ah, I see. I think an iMac should be sufficient. Just be sure to get more RAM than the stock 1GB. Apple's prices on RAM are pretty severe compared to other vendors, so I'd recommend adding RAM after purchase. If you search the iMac forum for "RAM UK", you should find recommendations on reliable vendors. Don't go with lowest price; there's nothing that can cause you fits with a computer system more than flakey RAM, so you want a vendor with a good reputation for quality. I'd suggest bumping the iMac to the maximum 4GB. As to screen size, I tend to prefer having two screens rather than one big one - you can put palettes on the second monitor - so if it's a choice and desk space is sufficient, consider a 20" iMac and a second 17" or 20" screen to go with it.
If you reckon the interface is enough to do the mic justice and that Logic Express or Pro would do when the musicians know and love Cubase then I am happy to help them learn more Mac-based software and get that instead as it is also cheaper and looks like it would make more sense to ME.
Unless they're wedded to Cubase, I'd think that Logic Express should work quite well. You may all want to take a trip to an Apple reseller and take a look at it.
Unless there is a reason to "upgrade" the interface I guess that is one less item to acquire
An upgrade would seem logical only if the Safire isn't giving the quality you want or there aren't enough inputs.
I'd call your recommendation but I am in the UK and will probably talk to the nice folk at Dolphin Music in Newcastle as that is where I got the interface.
I wasn't sure where you were. If you are located in or near Newcastle-On-Tyne, you can find a list of authorized resellers here, or if you're near Manchester or Sheffield or don't mind taking a paddle down, you can drop by an Apple Store. You can then perhaps preview Logic Express before you decide. You might want to call before you make a special trip just to make sure your dealer can indeed demo LE.
Final recommendation; get really good microphones. Garbage in, garbage out, as they say, and having the right microphone, one that's suited for the instrument that's being recorded, is vital. The Neumann is of course high quality, but if you haven't already purchased, check around. You can find really good mics for less than Neumann charges; unless things have changed, you pay a bit of a premium for their reputation. AKG used to make really good mics, quite well suited for piano and acoustic guitar in particular, and there are no doubt others as well (my knowledge of specific models is rather out of date).
    Cheers.

EDIT: P.S. If you can find Mix Magazine or EQ Magazine, those are pretty good reading. Lots of tips, product reviews, etc. Also, you can read a brief review of Logic Express 8 here:

  • With all the games coming out for iMacs what Gaming Pad or Jotstick works with the Imac

With all the games coming out for iMacs what Gaming Pad or Jotstick works with the Imac

Now the bad news. In my "Print to Video" pop up, if
I select "Color Bars" , "Black", or any other option
and take out my bars and tone and slug from the
timeline, the print to video does not print anything
to tape except for a nice nothing blue. I don't
even get my actual timeline video printed to tape.
    Jerry,
You are a genius! Man do I feel silly. So just for the benefit of others who might read this post, I did exactly as you said, and of course when I restarted FCP, I had to identify my Firewire NTSC setting for the drive. This time, instead of leaving my tapedrive offline, I left it on and immediately saw on my drive monitor the video coming off of my timeline.
Every thing works perfect. I now have a clean timeline with just the content I'm working on and don't have to worry about bars, slugs, post black. Just a few checkboxes and I'm ready to send my tapes off. Really nice feature.
    Thanks!

only for contextualize, in other softwares the microphone record correctly like quicktime, or in facetime, even photobooth. but in garage band not.
i dont know if its a problem of the software, an error of actualization, or a bad configuration. please give me a hand.
    cheers.

Did you choose the mic as the input device in Garageband Preferences?
