Gamers: Does anyone play Soldier of Fortune II?
I was finally able to get a copy of my favorite game after switching to my Mac. The problem is that the game keeps crashing. It makes it through the first cinematic but then crashes each time. I've tried re-installing it many times. The system requirements for the game are: Mac OS X10.1.5 or later; 128MB Ram; 3D video card w/ 16MB memory. I have: Mac OS X 10.5.8; 1 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM; video card - ATI Radeon HD 2400 128 MB. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. Thanks.
Thanks for the response. I've sent off an email tot he vendor and am waiting a response. I am mainly confused because the game is also promoted on this site http://www.apple.com/games/articles/2002/07/sof2/index2.html#reqs and I thought that Mac wouldn't promote the game if it wasn't compatible with most/al of the up to date products.

Hi ,im trying to play Soldier Of Fortune ,but it seems i can't get EAX (within the game sound option)?to work under vista ultimate x86. I have XFI Fatality and latest beta drivers and latest openAL installed,even Alchemy but still can't get it to work.When i try to apply the EAX option ingame,it goes to default sound,and believe me,it sounds horrible after i got used to EAX option in XP.so plz someone,any help to how i can make this game to work with EAX i would appreciate. Alchemy is still in its infant stages, so don't expect it to work perfectly for every EAX game across the board. The best you can do is go to the Alchemy site and list your SOF issues on the discussion boards. Actually, since the ALchemy project is a collaborati've project involving all of us gamers, and we have such a huge library of games, Creative NEEDS you to report your issue on their discussion board if ALchemy is ever going to be the ultimate solution for everything out there. http://preview.creativelabs.com/alchemy/default.aspx?I'd like?to ask all of you?gamers(particularly the ones using X-Fi soundcards) to crack open your library of games, old and new, and try using ALchemy on any of your games that haven't been listed or attempted yet, and report your findings. I am trying to connect my Macbook pro 2010 to my Samsung HDTV using a mini display port to hdtv cable. Trying to play a slide show in IPhoto but I only get sound with no picture. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I keep saying this over and over, in the hope that people who do a search will find it. Apple cannot possibly test for or be reponsible for the bazillion combinations of adapter, cables, and TV's out there. The only monitors that are 100% guaranteed to work with the MacBook Pro are the Cinema Displays and Thunderbolt Displays, because, they're made by Apple. They're expensive, but they work perfectly.
My guess is that you bought a cheap MDP to HDMI cable, or have a defective one. From my reading of these boards over the past few months, cheap cables have a high failure rate. And the regular priced ones have only a slightly less of one. Try a new one. Make sure you do not damage the Thunderbolt port. -
i would like to burn dvds..does anyone know a good safe easy to use converter/burning download to allow me to change mp4 /avi files to dvd so i can burn them on a disc that will play in all or most dvd players..also is it possible to upload store boughten dvds/bluerays to my macbook..if so does anyone know how one would do that ? im just getting used to this mac and i do love it but alas i am comp stupid hahaha...thank you

I managed to transfer the music from 1 pc to 1 other pc (it is played perfectly on the other PC (Windows 7- pc) by the newly downloaded and installed iTunes, version 10.6.1.7). But I didn’t fix the transfer of the meta data (for example the rating). Does anyone know how to use (or import) your old playlists, etc..(= meta data) on the other PC? So, short: how to migrate the meta data from one pc to an other pc?
It's a pity that it seems not to be possible to import on the new pc e.g. the ratings!!!
I don't want to start again with rating my (beautiful classical) music!

I think this is probably a sign that your network could be better than it is.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. -
Does anyone know why my music wont play on my 7th generation iPod nano? I've tried resetting it already but that didnt work. Can someone please help.
I would to a Restore. Select the iPod in iTunes. Go to the Summary tab for the iPod. There is a button there to do a Restore. This will erase the iPod, re-install its software, and set it to default settings. After Restore complete, try playing songs on the iPod again.
If THAT does not fix the problem, and it's not bad headphones (since you also tried the "speaker"), there is probably a hardware problem on the iPod. All 7th gen nanos are still under warranty. If you have an Apple Store nearby, you should take it to the store's Genius Bar. To minimize waiting, you can make a reservation on store's web page.

My Mac has suddenly stopped playing my DVDs including a DVD it played fine only 3 days ago. I insert the DVD and wait for the player to start automatically but after 10 minutes, nothing is happening and it sounds like the disk has stopped spinning. I've now tried with four different DVDs (all store bought and so perfectly normal disks). The Mac doesn't eject the disk or anything it just doesn't seem to respond to it being there at all.
My main confusion is why this suddenly happened today when it was perfectly fine last week.
Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong and how I could fix it? Thank you.

Hi i have avi files saved in iphoto that i used to be able to play through quicktime. However in the last few weeks i cannot play many of these files. I can see the videos and click on them but nothing happens (i have version 7.6.9 of quicktime). Does anyone know why this has happened and what i can do about this?

As previously stated, AVI is a file container. It is somewhat old and its originator, Microsoft, dropped official support of it over a decade ago. However, it remains popular with PC users since almost any valid audio and/or video compression format can be stuffed to the file which synchronizes the content by interleaving the individual audio and video frames. The compression format is the specific manner in which the audio and video data are encoded as it is placed in the AVI container. You can find the compression format by inspecting the file in the Finder "Info" window, or in the "Inspector" window of the QT player (or other media player) if the file can be opened.
For instance, one popular compression combination would be to place DivX encoded video and MP3 audio in an AVI file container. However, neither DivX nor MP3 is natively supported by the QT player. (Although iTunes will natively support the MP3 audio.) Therefore, people who wish to play such files in the QT 7 Player would normally install either the DivX component or Perian but not both. Either installation will independently play such files in the QT Player, but if both are installed, the file will usually stop working since these two codecs can create a playback conflict.
However, the AVI container could just as easily contain DV along with DV audio. In this case, the file should play correctly in QT since this compression format is natively supported by the basic component configuration that comes in every current OS installation. Therefore, if such files suddenly stopped playing, this could be an indication that a component has been moved or deleted or that your system or QT embedded structure has become corrupted. -
hi, i have a macbook and have been trying to play a dvd disk i have with some movies on them. well besically they wont play as theyre AVI files, does anyone know how i can solve this problem?
You can download and install MPlayerX free from Apple App Store. Works great for AVI and other movie formats. I had issues with some AVI's and MPlayerX resolved them.

My ipod nano this morning has started to tell me the accessory (lightening to 30-pin adaptor) I use for playing it through my docking station is not supported. It worked fine up until last night. Does anyone know why this might be?
Clean any debris from the adapter, docking station connector and the connector on the Nano.

Click Change and select a new location for your files.From now on, new songs and other items you import will be stored in the new location. Songs you’ve already imported stay in their current location.To go back to storing imported files in the iTunes folder, choose iTunes > Preferences, click Advanced, and click Reset.

Hello there ive just downloaded 2 albums from itunes store and found that they only play for a short while and then flips onto another tune which again only plays for short while so on and so forth which makes the albums completely useless does anyone have a solution?
Assuming you are in a region where you are allowed to redownload your past purchases, delete the current copies from your iTunes library, go to the iTunes Store home page, click the Purchased link from the Quick Links section in the right-hand column, then select Music and Not on this computer. You should find download links for your tracks there.
If the problem persists, or that facility is not yet available in your region, contact the iTunes Store support staff through the report a problem links in your account history, or via Contact Support.

Iphone6 doesn't play music (have tried obvious things like volume etc and plugged in headphones, connected to a speaker via bluetooth, and tried to play from the inbuilt speaker). Does anyone know what the problem is and how it can be resolved?
You can't buy the part from Creative as a spare.
I'm not sure how compatible other parts might be, but that would be a question for someone who really knows a lot about this area of electronics.
The Creative repair for this is likely to be expensi've, but the problem is most likely a broken solder connection than an actual new headphone socket. So if you know someone experienced in surface mount soldering you could probably get it repaired just with this.
